View Full Version : What can an Imp Offer?

Tyrants of Nine Hells seems to suggest as a Rule of Thumb that a Devil can only offer something relative to the level of the person being turned, from a certain percentage of total XP, to ability score changes and extra spell slots.

Can an Imp offer the equivalent of what Fisdantilus and/or the Green Dragon Orb offered Raistlin? (Basically a boost from level 11 to level 21? I think Raistlin as level 35 as of him entering the Abyss in Legends)

He might have something special up his sleeve - we've already seen him summon a very strong devil (pit fiend?), and he might have other ties in the Nine Hells that he can tap.

Well, he can Teleport if V dismisses the Dimensional Anchor.

That might be a pretty big selling point given the current circumstances.

(I'm not sure how many passengers he can carry, but that rule has been loosely enforced thus far in the comic)

teleport V back the other island, where V dispells, dismisses, reverses, or whatever is necessary the giant pit fiend thingy.

or... this is all part of the imp's plan...

Funny how the dragon shows up for revenge AFTER we see V fly off alone with the imp in pursuit. At the time, everyone speculated the imp had some plan to get V. This might be it. The dragon is the motivator for V to bargain with the powers of the lower planes - trade all knowledge about the Snarl in exchange for taking out the dragon - hurry, V, you only have a few more seconds to decide...

Remember folks, SABINE took what she learned about the Snarl down to the lower planes. It was AFTER Sabine did this that we first saw Qarr (or at least heard the voice we assumed was Qarr) showing up around Azure City.

Yep, this has ALL been choreographed over the last several days. Qarr reported in with his superiors, a plan was hatched, a dragon was dispatched.

Not to say this dragon ISN'T honestly out for revenge, but the dragon could be a stooge for higher powers. Remember, Tiamat rules the first plane of the Nine Hells. She is certainly in league with the other leaders of Hell, and could easily have orchestrated things with the black dragon and the Oracle because it played in to the bigger picture.

At most, Qarr will be able to hook V up with a hotline to some greater demon/archdevil.

There is a somewhat reasonable and popular theory..

V & Qarr make some sort of deal. Imp teleports V to stone devil. V manages to de-stone devil. Imp manages somehow to teleport all three to V's family. Big battle, with V winning, and losing...

Most of the more powerful demons can greater teleport themselves at will. Qarr shouldn't have to teleport it.

The big problem with your spoiler-theory is that as a general rule of thumb, the rulers of Hell all hate each other. All of them are trying to kill each other so they can take Asmodeus' spot as King of Hell. I'm skeptical to what depths the rulers of hell would make an Alliance with each other, but it could be something amusing (like Tiamat owing The Lord of Flies a free favor for loosing a card game).

Regarding the V destoning the demon theory, first... how strong is the demon (lets assume it is a pit fiend), compared to the mother black dragon... I don't play and I'm curious...

Also, would Elan's carving do anything if it was de-stoned? Anyone who reads 8-Bit Theater might remember a similar theory involving Black Belt that ended in the de-stoned character spurting great ammounts of blood and dieing... painfully... Or would the tombstone carving end up like a strange tatoo or something...

Technically, what Fist did was improve Raist's power and forge a link with him to drain his life force. Raistlin's massive power boost came from subverting that link and using it to consume the ancient wizard - not at all the same thing as a fiendish bargain.

The markings would likely bleed. It doesn't need to be very strong at all - just a helpful distraction - but they DO have similar HD.

Evidence of markings being carried over- Exemplars of evil- a minor villain had been petrified long enough for weathering to occur, when un-petrified he came back with badly scarred face. Ouch.

*Sorry to drag this a tad off topic*

Your level assignments for Rastlin are a bit off of alignment if you look at the core novels for the setting. Putting Rastlin at 21 in Chronicles is not supported by any spells he cast in the books: the most demanding thing we see him doing in the chronicles trilogy is cure Tas of poison at the end of Dragons of a Spring Dawning, an act within the AD&D limits of limited wish, a 7th level spell. The portal to the Abyss in Legends is essentially Gate with some extra magical requirements: while it would be fair to say that meeting those requirements would require greater than the basic 9th level gate spell spell from Rasitlin, the actual creation of the gates before those barriers were added would not. And the creation of the gates is presented as a massive undertaking of many mages. The same can be said of the dragon orbs. Likewise, the only known clerics in Krynn history capable of casting Resurrection are the king-priests.

The campaign setting (initially designed primarily by Hickman and his wife), was intentionally low power. There was actually a hard cap on PC level at 16. If you use the modules as a base, Rastlin wasn't 21st level at the end of Chronicles. He would only have been the the low to mid 20s at the end of Legends.

No,the lords of the nine politically manuever, but Asmodeus has a pretty tight grip on them and doesn't allow pointless in fighting.

true on that much, and they do form alliances. Dispater/Mephistopheles, Baalzebul/Belial, Fierna/Glasya, are some examples. Mammon, Levistus and Bel tend to stand alone though.
