Vote Up An Adventure

OK, we've had villains, monsters, disciplines and there's a magic item and a campaign setting in the works, so I've decided to hop onto the bandwagon with something slightly different - modules!

The aim of this thread is to build a usable ready made adventure - including fluff, some antagonists and some bonus material (things that you can cannibalise for your own nefarious purposes). With any luck, this will be a thing of awesome, although it could also be a disaster (hopefully not).

Past and Present Vote-up Contests (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5832833&postcount=1)

The Rules Of Voting: Please read, as failure to follow these rules may result in your vote not being counted.

In each category, you may make one 'preference' vote. You may also make any number of 'approval votes' for additional options - options with a high number of approval votes are more likely to be included in the adventure as secondary elements, even if they don't win. You can't vote more than once for a given option, however.
I would prefer to work with the options I have provided. If you have a suggestion for an option for a later stage in the voting, feel free to mention it. I will add it to the options list if I think I can work with it.
You may wish to state your reasoning behind a particular choice, but please do not try to convince other people to go with your point of view.
If you would like to change your vote, please link your original vote. If you simply edit the post containing your original vote, then the change may not be implemented.
If I cannot count your vote because it is unclear, or because you have violated one of the rules, I will post to ask you to change it to something that can be counted.
If you suggest something by PM which is accepted as an option, please do not tell everyone else on the thread until after the appropriate round of voting has concluded.

For everything except level, you may vote for any number of options, provided that you clearly indicate which one is your first choice. Anything that gets a lot of 'approval votes' is much more likely to be considered as a secondary element, even if it doesn't win.

Feel free to PM me with any suggestions for names at any time. Once all of the other rounds are complete, I will choose the most appropriate names and put them to vote. As with all other suggestions made by PM, please do not tell anyone else which option you have suggested.

I am going to go with 5th level because first off not a lot of adventures get past this sometimes, depends on your group, and also theres a lot of versatility around there.

lesser_minion
2009-02-08, 06:56 AM
Hmmm... I guess you're right. I guess I can change this to a 36-hour vote without too many problems. I wasn't really too keen on closing the vote at what most people on this forum consider to be 8 AM, hence the extended voting thing. OK, done.

26 hours remain. Currently tied between (5-7) and (8-10)

For this one, if there is a tie, I'll give the casting vote to one of the original VUAx people. They started the whole meme, so they get extra privelidges. For the other votes, it will go on approval.

Ashen Star
2009-02-08, 10:25 AM
I'm going to vote for 6th level. Two feats for most characters gives more diversity and options, low power level without an instant TPK, with a lot of room for adventure growth.

LordZarth: OK, I've got that.

In the later rounds, because of the structure of the voting I'd prefer it if you either quote or link your original vote though.

That leaves us with an epic duel between the 8-10 bandwagon (7 votes/33%) and the 5-7 bandwagon (11 votes/52%).

Combat/Hack and Slash
Investigation/Exploration
Roleplaying/Intrigue - the players will get involved in politics and intrigue
Psychological Roleplaying
Survival - scenes where the players are actually most concerned with getting out alive. Effectively a horror element
Problem Solving

For key element, Survival currently leads with three votes and 50% approval.

I don't think you need to change it. Investigation's approval with no preference votes simply means that many people would like to see it as a sub-theme in the adventure, but not the main focus. Like me, I would like to see a survival based adventure, but think that an investigation sub-theme would be very appropriate for such an adventure.

For the next round, the voting system will remain the same (cast one preference vote, and I'll count up anything else you say you like in your post and use it to work out the approval rating. Make it clear which vote is which). The available options for Tone / Genre are:

Humour
Horror
Cosmic Horror
Dark/Gothic
Adventure
Crime
Mystery

This is really a vote for the 'feel' of the adventure, as well as the kind of themes that will be conveyed - it will impact on the game, and will influence the way in which other elements fit together, but all of the elements that you choose will be present and significant. Even if you go for Dark/Gothic and then ask for demonic penguins as antagonists (note that demon-possessed penguins are not an option. I'm sorry.)

I've asked everyone to list everything they'd like to see in a category, along with which one they would like to see the most.

There should be stuff to cannibalise - could be anything from a spell to a magic item to a monster to a base class to a variant class feature. I'm probably not going to offer new PrCs

If I run short on new stuff, I may consider asking to yoink some of the homebrew on these forums as well. I don't know yet though.

My vote is for Urban !

Approval: mountain, marsh

I would like to give a brief explanation and hopefully sway others to change their vote to Urban.

Our genre is "survival" - how can you have a survival setting in a city? No, it's not zombiepocalypse I'm thinking of. Have the city be a city of some powerful, nonhuman race - Djinni, Ifreeti, fire giants, titans, intelligent umber hulks, something like that. The PCs wound up in the city by accident and if they are spotted by the population they will be squashed like vermin. They have to keep hidden like mice or roaches in a human city. Extra points if the city's main race is so large that the PCs are really no bigger than bugs in comparison. Our chosen character level of 5-7 is perfect for this kind of game; weak enough to lose against groups of big bads, but strong enough to have a chance of making it out of the city alive.

Now, with a great idea like that, who will join with me in voting for an urban setting for this survival adventure game?

lesser_minion

* Castle
* Island
* Temple
* Manor or House

I'm going to have to vote Village, with approval for Crypt, Temple, Town (a lot), and Manor or House.

Woah...

vote-up-an-x burnout indeed.

Wilderness has been added as an option because I can't believe I forgot about it.

In other news, the votes are currently tied as far as preference is concerned, but Tomb or Crypt has crept into the lead. That could be an interesting adventure...

I would like to propose an additional option, namely that almost the entire adventure for a Highly Morphic Pocket Dimension

Hmm... that could be interesting. I've added a Pocket Dimension in as an option for the locations.

I endorse Manor, for maximum chandelier swinging potential.

You want chandelier swinging in a partly horror-themed adventure where the primary objective of the characters is to survive?

Sure, if it wins.

I know I'm contrary, but I'm voting for City With approval of Wilderness.

When does this round end? I like this VUAA idea a lot!

lesser_minion
2009-02-25, 05:18 PM
Well, I'm kind of leaving this one open until probably the weekend. That's mainly because the vote-up glut seems to have dampenend everyone's enthusiasm.

lesser_minion

OK, these look like the boring votes. I'll cut Location from VUAA II.

In related news (hence the bump), the voting on Locations is closed. The winner, by a literal whisker, is Wilderness!

There may also be a tomb and a village floating around.

Otherwise, feel free to begin voting for Antagonists

Also, remember that my PM box is open for suggestions for names throughout this vote-up.

Mountainous wilderness in a cold climate would no doubt be populated by elementals! mounstrous humanoids. Animals and undead are approvable, so is Afro.

Survival, in cold mountain wilderness? I'm thinking really bleak, which means... Undead. But approval for Humanoid, Monstrous Humanoid, and Big things.

Afro - Wait a minute... you want to write-in YOURSELF as an antagonist.

Sure, if it wins :smallamused:

Please bear in mind that pitting Afro against a 5th to 7th level party may result in afro being statted as a bit weaker than normal, even though the party's main difficulty is actually surviving.

It looks like Undead have the lead, but now I'm going to get bandwagoned.

Hells yeah. :belkar:

No promises. I'm not that great, I'm an infraredshirt after all.

At the moment I'm thinking along the lines of just pun-pun rather than afroakuma.

Yeah, I think you may be right.

I'm going to bail on the original plan of accepting afroakuma as a write-in.

That does mean that I will need a new first choice from Emong and afroakuma himself

In place of afroakuma, however, Fey and Plants are now available as options. Oh, and Vermin

Those are mainly the things that I forgot about that might not necessarily fall into the other categories.

Emong

Fine... Fey then.

Excuse me? I've been replaced by Vermin? :smallmad:

*sigh* Just as well. No adventuring party of 5th-7th level could have survived any encounter with me.

I select Undead.

Incidently, Afroakuma would always result in TPK.

OK, that qualifies as quite some burnout.

Votes are tallied, by the way.

No, no you haven't. You've been replaced by something resembling your first three vote-up creations (all three of them, and that still isn't enough)

I'm going to be away from the forums for a while because of a few RL issues, which means that this project will be on hold for a bit.

I'm closing the vote now (I'll announce the winner when I'm back).

Feel free to use the thread to discuss the adventure while I'm gone, and put down suggestions for bonus material and names for the adventure (these will not be put to a vote yet).
