[PARROTS] - Please All Raspberry, Riot, Or Throw Stuff.

Okay, threw this together in like half an hour after a minor random comment when talking with my friends. It's likely broken, stupid, and/or already been done.

Spanish Inquisitor
In the early years of the 16th century, to combat the rising tide of religious unorthodoxy, the Pope gave Cardinal Ximinez of Spain leave to move without let or hindrance throughout the land, in a reign of violence, terror and torture that makes a smashing film. This was the Spanish Inquisition...

Contrary to what many may think, the Spanish Inquisitor need not be a cleric and in fact, need not profess any sort of religion at all. Bards often find themselves drawn to this class, as well as the more eccentric wizards. Most paladins, however, find the abilities of the class far too frivolous, although gnome paladins often take it.

Prerequisites
Skills: Perform (Comedy) 8 ranks
Spellcasting: Caster level 5th.
Special: Must possess a DM capable of finding the same Monty Python gag funny for the rest of the campaign.

Class Skills: Craft, Knowledge (Religion), Perform, Profession.
Skill points per level: 2+Int mod.

Level Base Attack Bonus Fort Save Ref Save Will Save Special

1st +0 +0 +0 +2 Chief Weapons, +1 level of existing spellcasting class

2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Chief Weapons, +1 level of existing spellcasting class

3rd +1 +1 +1 +3 Chief Weapons, +1 level of existing spellcasting class

4th +2 +1 +1 +4 Chief Weapons, +1 level of existing spellcasting class

5th +2 +1 +1 +4 Unexpected, +1 level of existing spellcasting class
[/table]

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Spanish Inquisitors gain no new proficiency in any weapons or armor.

Spellcasting: At every Spanish Inquisitor level, the character gains new spells known and spells per day as if he had gained a level in a spellcasting class he had prior to attaining Spanish Inquisitor. He gains no other benefits a character of that class would gain, however. If the Spanish Inquisitor held more than one spellcasting class before entering Spanish Inquisitor, he chooses which class' spellcasting to increase.

Chief Weapons - A Spanish Inquisitor has access to many diverse alarums and excursions weapons in the fight against evil/heresy. At every Spanish Inquisitor level except 5th, a Spanish Inquisitor gains an ability of his choice from the following list. A Spanish Inquisitor may choose the same ability more than once, and its abilities stack as listed in the ability description. The Rack and The Cushions are exceptions to this, and may be taken only once.

Fear - The Spanish Inquisitor may prepare and/or cast Cause Fear as if he had the Empower Spell feat, allowing him to cast it at any spell level he is capable of casting. This ability also adds Cause Fear to the Spanish Inquisitor's spell list if he did not already possess it, allowing him to prepare and/or cast it as if it were a normal arcane or divine spell, depending on what he is capable of casting. Taking this ability multiple times increases Cause Fear's DC by 2 each time.

Surprise - The Spanish Inquisitor gains the ability to sneak attack like a Rogue. Each application of this ability grants +1d6 sneak attack, which stacks with a rogue's normal sneak attack.

Ruthless Efficiency - The Spanish Inquisitor gets a +2 bonus on attack rolls to confirm a critical hit. This ability stacks if taken multiple times.

Fanatical Devotion - The Spanish Inquisitor gains a +2 bonus on Will saves to resist mind-influencing spells and effects. This ability stacks if taken multiple times.

Nice Red Uniforms - The Spanish Inquisitor gains a +2 bonus on all Charisma-based skill checks. This ability stacks if taken multiple times.

The Rack - The Spanish Inquisitor gains Improved Grapple as a bonus feat. This ability may be taken only once, and has no effect if the Spanish Inquisitor already possesses Improved Grapple.

The Cushions - The Spanish Inquisitor gains the Nonlethal Substitution metamagic feat. This ability may be taken only once, and has no effect if the Spanish Inquisitor already possesses Nonlethal Substitution.

The Comfy Chair - The Spanish Inquisitor may prepare and/or cast Hold Person as if he had the Empower Spell feat, allowing him to cast it at any spell level he is capable of casting. This ability also adds Hold Person to the Spanish Inquisitor's spell list if he did not already possess it, allowing him to prepare and/or cast it as if it were a normal arcane or divine spell, depending on what he is capable of casting. Taking this ability multiple times increases Hold Person's DC by 2 each time.

Unexpected - Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, especially in campaign worlds with no Spain. At 5th level, the Spanish Inquisitor is so unexpected that he always acts in a surprise round before combat begins.

(Edit: Class skills and skill points. Oops.)

*dies laughing*

That's actually the funniest thing I've seen all day.

Dare, that is just wonderful! It needs to be applied to Eberron, clearly, because we all know that no one expects the Thrannish Inquisition~ XD

Let's see... a pure-classed Wizard or Sorcerer could qualify for this class at 13th, and start taking it at 14th. At 18th, a pure-classed Wizard or Sorcerer could have all five levels.

With all five levels, you get the Unexpected; the spellcaster basically always goes first. The Wizard basically always going first basically breaks the game.

Perhaps making it "Bardic caster level 5th"?

Could work, but then, you'll get bard-1's with Practiced Spellcaster (Bard) wizard-4's going in, being almost pure classed.

And then (silly) Paladins and Cleric's can't qualify.

True.

Well, it's not particularly meant as a serious entry, and the caster level requirement allows Warlocks to take it as well. Which admittedly isn't as broken as the Wizard taking it, but imagine a Warlock with four shots of Nice Red Uniforms. Even one rank of UMD and a 12 Cha lets him activate wands for free, and it only gets sillier if you're pimping UMD like a Warlock should.

The original caster requirements were 2nd-level spells in both arcane and divine, but that didn't fit the flavor very well at all.

*shrug* It's here to laugh at, and I know I'd laugh at a player asking if he could take it in one of my campaigns.

He wouldn't necessarily always go first, would he? He'd just always participate in the surprise round. Granted, that means he gets an edge on anyone else in the combat, but he still has to go by the initiative of anyone else in the surprise round.

If there is no surprise round, does this suddenly make one that only he can act in? If so, then I suppose I would retract my point.
