A few months have now passed. You have seen the fort go from a heap of old stones to a structure that would withstand an attack from an army. The prince’s leadership astounds you when it came to building the fort. He is the complacent leader who sits upon a thrown directing traffic with a scepter but rather he worked along side the peasants that came to see this dream come true. The prince did not allow the classism that usually has plagued the armies of the past for everyman, regardless of class, helped build the fort as well as patrolled the land. Another leader that arose from this time is young Louis. He and a group of young warriors subverted an attempted ambush by a group of goblins living in the area. He was made a squad leader for patrols by the prince.

Remodeling the fort has progressed well; you now are sleeping in cramped quarters with a solid roof over your head and well cooked meals. However, the task at hand is not quickly forgotten. You hear rumblings of men wanting to know why the fort is being built, why they are not attacking the dark lord.

The prince has promoted Throshkar publically to commander of his royal army, Egan to royal mage, Adrian to royal head baker and problem solver, and Regis to oversee the spiritual welfare of the army with a celebration that lasted well into the night. In the morning you meet together to discuss your plan of action for the coming months. The free flowing mead and the dancing have left many with throbbing headaches and tired bodies. The fresh coffee and tea does give you a little refreshment as does the warm eggs and left over ham. The prince rises to address you…

”Friends, I thank you again for your service to bringing me closer to holding the crown on my head. We still have a difficult road ahead of us. This next challenge will test our resolve and our wits in new ways. I will stay here to oversee the building of our emperor and our army while I seen you to the capital to gather support. A few important missions lay ahead. We must locate the remaining members of the counsel and if they support our cause have them return here for safe keeping. We must add numbers to our small army if my brother does listen to reason and prepare for war. I am sure that there are those who are still loyal to the true crown in the city. Be careful when you enter the city as not to arouse suspicion. Meet our contact Olna there; she is a beautiful woman who knows who she can trust within the city. We need at least four of the seven counsel members for me to be elected king. You cannot ask them if they will support me only that I require their service. I have already started to send a small legion of troops to a farmhouse outside the city. You will be able to escort the counsel members to the legion for safekeeping. Only the four of you shall enter the city, we do not have the strength for a war. I look forward to your safe return. Do you have any questions?”

Adrian cracks his knuckles and smiles. It'd been a good few months, and it was getting better. Baking always took the edge off, he'd managed to lure that cute waitress away from her job in the city to come be his assistant, and now he'd be able to go back to his old hunting grounds. He idly racked his brains, but he couldn't reecall which, if any, of the council members he'd stolen from. Then he remebered why he was out here in the first place. Right, Mother and Thad. First thing to do once we're in, find out what happened to them. And swing by the bakery, maybe I left some stuff in the basement.

Throshkar delaBlanche

The past few months had been busy for Throshkar. Named commander of the royal army, responsible for organizing an armed insurrection with a badly weakened military force, had pressed the strapping young warrior to his intellectual and physical limits. In his rare spare time, between cramming the fundamentals of arcane and holy studies well into the night, he savored his accomplishments...

His father, the Duke Tollikar delaBlanche, had ascended to Commander of the Great Royal Armies when he was a full 20 years older than Throshkar was now. Of course, that had required years of political intrigue in the old king's court, but when had his father ever been uninvolved in political machinations? In his youth, Senior delaBlanche had been a mighty warrior, but it was his tactical prowess in the halls of power where he was beyond peer.

Alas, politics had wrested the position away from the Duke some years ago. But his eldest sons both had long been groomed to reclaim the honor one day -- each carefully prepared to satisfy the predilections of the two princes. Throshkar had never wished it otherwise... and yet, now... he had grasped the reigns himself. It was a victory he longed to share with his father and brothers. Or was it show to them?

In any case, the opportunity had not yet arisen; the delaBlanches were not to be found anywhere in the land. Throshkar was afraid to ask himself whether this meant they had been killed, or worse, had joined the Black Knights... or even worse, were in hiding.

His achievements would have to go without acclaim for now...
The Prince's Cavalier bowed deeply, very deeply. "I thank you for this great honor, O Aseral, Prince and Future King." Naturally, the two of them -- well, with Egan and Sir de Gra, and even that Regis fellow -- had hammered out the plan in detail well before this moment. Still, a formal acceptance was needed; a King must have his Court, lest lesser men question his might or grace. "Your strongest and most loyal subject, Throshkar DelaBlanche, shall serve you well! So too shall my three fellows-in-arms, each of them famed and beloved by thy servants -- and soon, by all the land."

Indeed, a full set of Adrian's amazing, incredible, fantastic cinnamon-laced breakfast pastries still simmered adoringly in Throshkar's belly, along with cold ham and hot coffee. He smiled at the halfling.

He knew already the counsels the Prince preferred they meet with first, and the strategies that lay therein. There was but one question left... "Milord, whom shall you assign to command the legion outside the capital with which we shall rendezvous? I would not intrude 'pon your selections, but might I proffer the skills of one Aantier Salacos? A finer cavalier you will not find throughout the land, excepting myself; his loyalty is undoubted, and his is the sharpest mind and wit ever I have known. He will perform admirably, should you choose to set this task before him."

Aantier had visited the fortifications several fortnights ago, meeting the Prince and Egan before being sent off on a key scouting mission near the capital. The raven-haired man was unusually independent for a cavalier, even secretive -- he actually liked the ambiguity of such covert or "night" missions -- yet he was quite sociable in a crowd. Even crude, really. Regis would like him once he met him, Throshkar was sure of that.

He nodded to the cleric. Throshkar still didn't care for the man, but as he'd grown to understand the basics of magic, he'd begun to see how many spells -- not all, mind you, but many -- were simply augmentations of an individual man's greatness, an exertion of will over matter. It required exceptional men to wield such power, and greater men still to make proper use of it. He was not yet certain of all this, and certainly had not mentioned his studies to the others -- though he worried if they'd figured him out -- but he was close to relenting on his rules about magics cast upon him prior to and during combat.

Breaking into Throshkar's thoughts came Louis' voice: "Beggin' yer pardon, milord, but which one a' these counsels are we goin' to first?"

I'm assuming that there's a little strategic foreknowledge about the seven counsels, otherwise we're kinda stupid. :smallamused: If the Prince could detail "what we already know" as a little exposition, that would be cool.

Setting up for the Prince to have already sent Aantier to the capital after his "other" mission, unbeknownst to Throshkar perhaps, or for the Prince to accept and reassign Aantier as requested. However you like. And I'm off for my plane...!

The prince smiles at Throshkar's statements, "I have already placed Aantier Salacos as unit commander of the troops outside the city. His...er...your units are arriving there and laying low to provide any assistance you need in getting the counsel members out.

"Now young Louis asks a good question of who to find first. Olna has been getting info on the whereabouts of the remaining counsel members..." Aseral takes a letter out of his pocket and then reads from the letter. "Dearest lord, things have been scary here for your subjects. The Dark Lord has attempted to crown himself king. He gathered forth the counsel through force carrying them there in chains and asked for their blessing to be king. They asked for the chains to be removed and he obliged. They then refused him and he attacked the speaker of the counsel with his golden mace while the others fled. I know that one member, the speaker, is dead and the others are in hiding. When Throshkar finds me in the city I will have more information. Take care, Olna" The prince places the letter back into his breast pocket and continues speaking, "Find Olna in the city. I am sure her eyes will find you first. I would enter the city discretely, we do not want to start a war just yet. You will pass by the farm on your way to the city, I am sure that they will be watching for you. Any other questions?"

Egan Brahe (http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/profiler/view_char.php?cid=19947)

Egan found himself very busy over the past months. There were items to be identified and categorized, spells to be researched, components to find, and strategies to consider. He even researched the history of their chosen site using his magics and still made time to tutor Louis now and again. When he suspected the pattern that Louis always talked long into the evening with Throshkar after their lessons, he made sure to find time to continue his lessons with Louis. He also found that Adrian seemed to enjoy each time that Egan had a shopping list of specific items that needed to be found from the nearest merchants. Adrian's love of the city and all of its 'benefits' were very likely the cause. His research proved useful as he improved the enchantment on his bracers.

He lent his magics to the reconstruction efforts when needed, holding up materials with a wall of ice or web spell until they could be properly secured, strengthening the workers with other magics for some critical jobs and for raw materials procurement. An enlarged, strengthened man could fell a large tree for lumber very quickly. Or sometimes it was just plain demolition that was needed with a well placed Lightning Bolt. He had been considering how these same effects would be used in the battles and asked permission from the Prince to train with any of the cavaliers that would volunteer. There were few at first, but the benefits of the training were evident, so he was able to prepare many for the effects and benefits of spells in battle. He used Bull's Strength, Enlarge Person, and had researched Haste to good effect. He had even marked those who seemed to embrace the spells effect to the most benefit during training. These men could turn the tide of a battle if used properly.

His other task was helping the Prince in his research of the counsel members. He was a Diviner by trade after all. The scrying took many hours as much of it was not successful due to the resultant intrigue that surrounded many of the subjects currently. But Egan had learned long ago to be a patient man in these things.

"Discretion shall be important for us. But Olna will surely find us before we find her. It is likely better this way. Her letter confirms our suspicions about your brother's character." Egan rubs his forehead in thought. "Are there any other nobles that can be trusted that we should contact or ferret away from the city? Ones that may be able to rally their troops to your cause? Raising an army to defeat... how did Olna put it... to defeat The Dark Lord, will not be an easy task."

crimson77
2009-02-19, 07:21 PM
"Egan, I really do not know much of the political structure of the city now. I wish that I did know who to trust and who could lend us some troops. Olna has been directing us troops and new ones have been arriving daily. Olna will know more when you get to the city. However, we must be careful of who to trust when you arrive. I am sure that there are spies spying upon Olna. Be careful. I hope that once I am crowned King we can push our way into the city either politically or by force."

Regis

Regis spends most of the time during the past few months working with the injured men and assisting rebuilding the castle. Wall of Stone and other earth moving spells can really be a boon in these situations. He also travels discreetly to various other small settlements and gathers some servants and squires to come and work for the cavaliers. He also begins to enlist the aid of a few other worthy church members, some small clergy and scribes to gather there also, just a few young and bright fellows to write letters and cure small injuries among the training knights.

----------------------

Regis stands to the side during the briefing taking it all in. He had many thoughts on how to travel into the city. We can easily travel into the city carried by the clouds. We can be there in a few hours, as the magics will carry us more than 700 miles in half a day. If that is acceptable to you gentlemen. There are other ways in which to travel but this way we can travel as a small group of five to gather information before we move the main force.

Throshkar delaBlanche

Upon hearing Aantier has already been thusly assigned, Throshkar refrains from the traditional cavalier fist-pump, but smiles broadly. He grows more serious at Olna's letter, but the counsel's honorable dismissal of the... Dark Lord? Yes, that is appropriate... their courage shown lightens his heart. These nobles are good, strong men. Naturally!

"Olna's discretion is widely known," observes Throshkar, unaware of the irony in the statement. "Relying upon her is wise. And Sir Da Gra, whose knowledge of... discretionary tactics, I believe we called them?... have proven extensive, he may have a creative idea or twenty, once we arrive in the city. Provided he is not feasting or carousing from the moment we set foot there! Ha!" The cavalier leans forward and slaps Adrian on the back. The little man's rogue nature has not yet seeped into Throshkar's awareness, despite his advantageous advice on guerrilla warfare, but his predilection for and talent with the ladies certainly has.

Gesturing to Regis, the cavalier adds, "Thank you, holy man of the road. I shall be glad to take to the skies with Arondight, and Louis has long yearned to touch the clouds. Let us hasten forthwith, then, 'pon wings of the gods--eh, 'pon our Lord God's wings! Of course."

I feel like there's more we should ask about and for, but I can't think of anything. No word on Kilmer?

Throughout your time at the fort you hear rumors regarding Kilmer. Some say that he joined the dark knights. Others say he was killed in the courtyard while the dark knights came to take him away. Others say that he is in prison. Regardless of the theory, there is one thing for certain, no one really know what happened to Kilmer.

Throshkar delaBlanche

Enjoying the sensation of becoming a cloud, Throshkar takes a moment to recognize the question asked of him. When he does, his smile grows broader. His Bishopness might not give him his due deference, but the occasional respect felt good.

"To Olna's home, I would say. She was warned to avoid it, so is not likely to be there, but we might find her acquaintances, or ladies under her employ." His eyes, if they can be seen, twinkle at the thought... which leads to another idea. "And after that, I would that we would go to Johnathan's home; his wife is a goodly woman, and deserves our protection if she need it." The cavalier, long practiced at hiding his ardor for his friend's wife, delivered this last calmly: it is simply a chivalrous suggestion.

You fly over the city passing over Throshkar's residence that he once shared with Olna. The house and barn are now burned out shells that barely resemble the structures they used to be. You fly over the walls and into the main part of the city and you can see that things are mainly quiet. Regis looks for a quiet place where he can set you all down that is near Jonathon's apartment residence. He finds a quiet alley way a few streets from the market place and you all touch down. You feel it almost instantly, a feeling of cold dread once your feet are upon the ground. What do you do now?

Upon landing, Throshkar aches briefly for the lost freedom of flight. The foreboding that descends is foreign to him, so he shrugs it to the back of his mind and throws his allies a mighty grin.

"Sir Adrian, I believe the next step is yours?"

Adrian nods, and let's his affected accent slip a bit as he finds himself on familiar ground. Right. First off, we keep our heads low, and unrecognizable. Then, I'll head up to Johnathan's apartments, scope it out, and come back to let you all know if it's everything's alright. Now let's see if these slippers work. And with that Adrian climbs up the side of the alley wall, and begins to pick his way accross the rooftops towards the target building.

The first thing that you hear once you arrive in the alleyway is the distant sound of the market. The alleyway runs perpendicular to a major road where you can see people walking and carts rolling by. This roadways is around 30 feet from your current position. Behind you the alleyway ends at a solid wall which separates this alley from the marketplace. The alley is filled with trash and after a few moments you notice an unpleasant smell of rotting meat and old feet. You wait for a few moments as members of your party gather their thoughts.

...And with that Adrian climbs up the side of the alley wall, and begins to pick his way accross the rooftops towards the target building.

Adrian reaches Jonathon's apartment building rather quickly given Thorshkar's direction and his own understanding of the city. He is able to keep a low profile along the rooftops until he reaches the building. He spots the door to Jonathon's apartment, an old wooden door with his crest. As Adrian approaches the door he notices that the red crest has blacken marks upon it as if one had put a torch to the door. The door is also slightly ajar but there is no movement from either window.

The cavalier fiddles with his newly empowered gauntlets as the group waits. He remembers the old wizard's words of warning: "Are you prepared for these? I have enchanted them with my magics to enhance your strength. The strength will leave you when you remove them." Magic enhancements cast in the midst of combat remain something doubtful, but these... these feel good.

Really good.

Throshkar notes the mage's -- what was the word? -- familiar peeking out from his robes, and a thought strikes him. "Lord Brahe? Would you consider sending Kaylee behind yon halfling, to observe his success? Should he encounter troubles, we might be made aware of it through your unique bond, might we not?" Seeing surprise touch the wizard's brow, Throshkar hastens to add, "My mentor's daughter is a spellcaster -- she has a raven, yes, I believe it is, that serves her in a like fashion."

"Ah, in the meantime -- have either of you gentlemen an arcanum by which we might determine the Dark Prince's activities, or any of our many targets' whereabouts?"

Ooh, and we get to spy on the little rogue when he doesn't know it! :smallwink:

The halfling draws his crossbow and carefully slips into the room.

You notice that the apartment has been torn apart as if people were looking for things. There is broken glass on the floor and rubbish around the room. Almost anything of value has been taken from the room. You see places where transients may have used this place to sleep or rest. You guess this place has been vacant of the original owners for at least a month if not longer. You see little of value and little beyond broken furniture to remind you of the previous owner. You get no clues as to where the previous occupants have vanished to.

Adrian pockets his bow, straightens up, and then nods. Alright, that rule's that base out. He then truns around and picks his way back to the group.

It's no good. Looks like the Dark Knights tore it up, left it for squatters. Adrian opens his pack and withdraws his diguise kit. If we're to be here for an extended stay, I think we ought to change our apperences. If we can manage it, we might be able to simply rent rooms in an inn, and use that as a base of operations.

I'd invite you to my place, but I don't think you'd all fit.

"I have been working with the Prince on monitoring the activities of those in the city. Without a focus on the Dark Lord, I fear there is little we can discern. There be a lot of intrigue clouding these happenings."
Crimson, I am assuming that since there were no PMs concerning the previous posts about scrying, that little has been found.

----------------------

"Lord Brahe? Would you consider sending Kaylee behind yon halfling, to observe his success? Should he encounter troubles, we might be made aware of it through your unique bond, might we not?" Egan considers it quickly conversing with Kaylee. He has never been one to risk his familiar's safety. Egan opens his mouth to respond to Throsh when the halfling softly lands next to them. "Welcome back."

"If we're to be here for an extended stay, I think we ought to change our apperences. If we can manage it, we might be able to simply rent rooms in an inn, and use that as a base of operations."

Egan activates his hat and changes his appearance to a bit more of a portly man that is a couple inches shorter than he was with dark balding hair. The head of a cat can be seen poking out of the hood of his cloak. "Should this do? I also have a couple of invisibility spells prepared if we need to do some discrete investigation."

Adrian raises a quizical eyebrow. Such enchantments weren't unheard of in his circles, of course, but their use was... controversial. Adrain had no problems with their use, but the thrill of a good con was always, to him, wrapped in the tactile feel of the facepaints, the crisp sensation as a fake beard is removed, and of course the craftsmanship of a well put together disguise.

It'll work for you. Regis, Throsh? Who would you like to be for today? Rich merchants? Traveling nobility? Down on their luck tradesmen?

'Discreet.' It was a foreign concept to Throshkar. Well, not entirely... covert operations was critical to reconnaissance. He just hadn't engaged in that sort of mission in... well, there was that one time. That was about it.

Aantier always said it was fun, an argument echoed by the Prince himself; Egan, meanwhile, had astutely noted that Throshkar could present himself properly and select the "best" enemies to challenge only after he knew who they were.

It was a good point.

"So let's have fun, then!" But merchants? Tradesmen?? The big man shuddered visibly. He looked at his allies. No, they could not pass as mercenaries, here to take advantage of the chaotic state of affairs. Perhaps merchants it would have to be. But they had discussed this before. "I shall be thy bodyguard, gentlemen. The two of you are men of business, merchants of war, and Adrian your -- what is the word? -- fence? Agent? The man familiar with the region, who is introducing the rest of us to potential connections."

It was a good idea. Naturally, Aantier had suggested the initial concept, and the others had expanded on the theme later...

"And, uh, you be callin' me, uh, Jimmy, y'knowhatI'msayin?" he concludes in a terrible, terrible accent.

Throshkar marvels at the stout cleric. Exactly what their group -- a mixed bag already -- would be doing with a country friar is beyond him. They were going to draw enough attention as it was without having a sensible, consistent story to follow.

But he'd given up on directing the man; some commoners just did not know well enough to follow their betters. Perhaps Egan or Louis would better reach him...?

Seriously, though, I think we should have a consistent group story, or choose to split up. Either way is fine by me, but if the five of us are together, we need a reason.

Egan watches Adrian work on Throshkar and Regis. "Merchants may seem like cheaters and liars to you, uh Jimmy, but they are still the life blood of many kingdoms. They provide goods, foods, and communications. All necessities for a healthy kingdom. Now I am no expert at subterfuge, but I have had some unsavory associations in the past as well as studied some of the stories of old. It seems to me that the best thing to be is unnoticed. Jimmy, be careful of your words and also your walk. You are a watchful guard, and that only. Do not stride through the market as noble expecting others to remove themselves from your path or business. Adrian is a creative fellow, I'm sure he can help us figure out what to say and how to say it."

"We should not go to any of our normal places of residence or association without great caution. We should find a normal merchants inn for lodging, I think. If we get there, I have brought some of my instruments and I may be able to spend some time looking into matters in this city now that we are closer. The Prince did give me some descriptions of the council members." Egan continues to lay out a plan where they find an inn or apartment to stay. Regis and Throsh could go to the market to get supplies and get a general sense for the mood of the city, but this will be an easy way to let Olna find them. Adrian accompany them or perhaps move into his own circles to find out more. Egan would remain at the apartment or inn and attempt his scrying. Kaylee, with the help of an invisibility spell could accompany from a distance either of the groups, just in case there is any trouble. "I would also suggest that our fair friar here do any talking in the market. He is a man of the people and will help anyone be at ease."

As you venture into the market place, it seems like any other market place that you have ventured into before; however, the people seem to have an air of depression surrounding them. Some seem to wonder about looking at the ground while the shopkeepers and merchants do not seem to be pushing their wares at all but sitting back in their stores or by their carts picking at their dusty wares. Also you see a large guard presence in the market place as if they are watching over everyone. The guards are dressed in light armor and carry spears and swords. You see none of the infamous dark knights. Throshkar is able to get some directions to taverns, whore houses, and other places. However, some of the merchants he approached seem to look directly past him and did not answer to his jovial requests for information. Others gave him short directions and did not even ask if he would like to look at their wares. None of the merchants who responded reply to any inquires beyond mere directions and often do not respond back to follow up questions. You quickly realize that even with your disguise you are still standing out as guests in the city you once loved.

"Jimmy" screws up his face in confusion when the little guy waves them over. What was the big deal? So the merchants were cranky. Besides, he was really looking forward to trying out that new joint, the one where the guy said the girls were willing to... well, anyway, he hadn't heard of the place before. Wasn't many of those.

It takes the undercover cavalier a minute to grasp the halfling's meaning, and another several minutes to understand the reasons behind it. Finally, he shrugs and stomps over to the smallest, weakest-looking guard he can find.

"Don't nobody wanna take my money here; where's da action in dis town, bub?" he grumps.

"Don't nobody wanna take my money here; where's da action in dis town, bub?" he grumps.

Jimmy finds a skinny looking guard in tattered armor who is paroling the outside of the marketplace. The short man looks confused with the large fighter's comments, "What....some merchant is not taking your money? Show me the merchant. We can put a stop to this and get the item that you wish to purchase." The young guard, who is close to the same age as Louis, whistles and a few of his larger comrades come over to where Jimmy is standing. The young guard says to the others who are joining him, "This citizen wants to purchase something and the venders are refusing to answer." One of the larger guards give Jimmy a hard look as if trying to place him and then says, "...You say that a merchant is not selling goods to you? Well that be illegal! Show me the merchant and we will get your goods. Which merchant is it?"

You gather together and walk toward one of the local taverns. As your discussion continues a small girl approaches the party and tugs on Jimmy's tunic and says in a soft voice, "Me lady has asked me to bring you this flower." The young girl smile and hands Jimmy the flower before skipping away into the market place.

The flower is a ruby red rose with a brown piece of paper wrapped around the stem. You unfold the paper and a message is written inside.

You see a few guards chasing after Regis the friar and as you are about to walk chase after to help your friend you see Regis the warrior emerge from another alleyway.

Jimmy's knowledge of the city is a bit hazy from the few months that they have been gone. However, remembering back to battle plans and trainings regarding if the city walls were breached called for using the churches as places of gathering and sleeping quarters for the troops. Most churches were protected against scrying so they made perfect places for strategies if the main headquarters was destroyed or compromised. Additionally, the heavy stone walls of most churches would protect the nobility from catapult attacks upon the city.

As he's trying to recall what little he's learned of crooks and thieves in the capital, Jimmy stifles laughter at the sight of the tubby friar fleeing from the stumbling militiamen. He doesn't lift a finger, though. A good beating might teach the man his place. When the cleric's doppelganger arrives a few minutes later, bleating about bad pork, "Jimmy" takes a long moment (as usual) to grasp that his ally had used divine magic to transport himself from one place to another, or something of that sort.

That Regis could no longer comport himself as a holy man was only fair, Throshkar muses... and the thought reminds him of the more delicate noblemen's defense strategies. He is quick to whisper the information to the others as they follow Adri-er, Maxy out of the marketplace.

Adrain - The lantern tavern is one of the oldest taverns in the city and located in one of the shadiest as well, the old town. Its basement contained the headquarters for the first thieves guild which later became an opium den. It is know for its roughness but at the same time a certain romanticism. The people who frequent it are known to be the most dangerous criminals on the streets but they would never break one of the houses glasses but instead take the troublemaker outside for an alley fight rather than a bar fight. Its a place that even during the best of times the city guards rarely patrol for fear for their own lives. The cavaliers would not been seen in the area as it might tarnish their honor or to be caught up in a fight with a shady fellow only to be stabbed in the back by his best friend.

As the party starts heading in the direction of the old town they notice that the city has fallen into a state of disrepair. The streets are dirty there are burned out shells that once were homes or places of business. Other places are looted and all but empty.

Adrian's thoughts tumble as he considers Olna's choice of destination. His mother's crowd of classy thieves had it's own little connections to the Tavern, and he'd also tailed other, less savory criminals into there at Thaddeus' behest, so he was more than familiar with the place. But what did it say about Olna? Wannabe trying to seem with it? Maybe, but from all he'd heard, she seemed like the genuine deal, and picking the Lantern was an assertion of her credentials as a such.

You are not sure if it is the sun setting or that you are just getting to a shady area of town but you feel the hair on the back of your neck standing up. There are more people milling about in the old town district. You can see people passed out on the sides of the dirty street their opium pipes faintly curling smoke into the dusky sky. You feel the presences of eyes upon you as you tread here but no one seems to make eye contact with you. Adrian leads you off the main street in the old town and your eyes fall upon the Lantern Tavern. For many of you, you have only heard of this places existence in stories and gossip but never laid your eyes upon it. The tavern itself it built like a large wooden lantern. The tavern itself is on the bottom floor and is lit up with large windows and a fire burns in the center of the structure blasting light out into the dirty streets. The second floor has similar windows but covered in a white cloth. Upon the cloth, silhouettes of women dance in the pale fire light illuminating their perfect structures to all that gaze up to the second floor. In front of the tavern gruff men mill around as if waiting for orders from their bosses.

The waiter brings over a round of drinks and some peanuts. The ale here is smooth and good, better than you have had in a while. After a few moments of chattering among yourselves one of the bouncers that you saw at the door slides into the booth. You begin to rise in protest or ask why they are here but the mask is removed and you see Olna's flowing hair and smooth face. She smiles and says to young Louis, "Louis, please go get your boss from outside. Remind him that he is only tarnishing his honor by hesitating entering a place that he fears. By standing outside he brings us greater danger if anyone recognizes him. In here we are safe from scrying eyes. If that does not bring him in then tell him I have news of his boss, Kilmer, but do not say the name for we can only speak safely and unseen here."

Olna then turns to the group with a wide smile and bright eyes. You notice that she looks older than when you last saw her. Her makeup is smudged and there is a bit of charcoal on her face but she is still the same old Olna. She continues speaking to the group when Louis gets up to leave, "I am glad that you got my message the city is in a state of controlled chaos. Nausea threatens to overwhelm the warrior as he passes through this den of iniquity, this corrupt haven of shadows, thieves, and merchants. Olna's full lips and generous smile take their time cutting through his haze, but they do much to calm his senses.

"A magnificent greeting in such a dark place, milady," he says as soon as he regains some stability. "You are looking marvelous yourself, Olna." And she was, gorgeous as always, though perhaps tired...?

Seeing Olna speak with freedom, Throshkar details their story: "As you know, Regis and I found the Prince shortly after you and Johnathan departed -- deep in the bowels of the earth, he stood protected by a great dragon, ally of his grandfather. There we met Sir Adrian Da Gra, and then Monsieur Egan Brahe 'pon our arrival at the City of Freemen. Together we have served our Prince in preparing him a place of strength from which to stand and claim his rights, to be known and judged by the Counsel."

"We understand from your letter that the Counsel has been scattered by the elder prince. Aseral sends us to discover their hiding places and bring them into the light, so they might speak their minds true and choose our king rightfully."

"I know this is our mission first and most, but I must ask: know you the fate of General Kilmer, or of mine family? The delaBlanche flag has not flown o'er our castle for some time, nor have I had word since the... the 'Dark Lord', I suppose, claimed the throne. And Johnathan, too, of course. Is he here?"

He certainly couldn't remember trying to fleece her, or lifting anything from her home, but there were always jobs, here and there, long cons where you could get the sense of other players in the water.

The halfling then sat back and listened while Onla relayed her stories. Fun times. He thought dourly. Yesterday he'd been pleased with the imminent exitement, an hour ago, bussinesslike and professional, but now he was sour, angry, and disillusioned. Suddenly it was all real. Never before, except perhaps when Theadras had first kicked in his door, had he felt like this.

But when that had happened, he'd wheeled dealed, got his mother off the hook, and ended up landing himself a fun hobby and a good friend, of sorts.

But then again, he'd done it for his mother, and that wasn't really an option.

But then again, again, some strange new idea was bubbling up through his normally carefree soul. Revenge.

Egan Brahe (Mister Anthony)

After watching the interchange between Olna and the others, Egan grows anxious rather than relaxed at all of the bad news and her own apparent aggitation. "You have brought dour news for everyone here, Lady Olna. I am reluctant to ask you about my own family because of this. I can see that these times have even pressed you." Egan takes a lets his disguise fall from him as he takes out a 'kerchief and wipes the smudge from Olna's cheek. "What brought you in such a rush that you did not compose yourself before sitting here? And you have stuttered twice tonight when telling us that you would take us to your home. What has upset you this much?"

Olna listens to Adrian's words "So the rest of the gang got caught too?" and shakes her head. She sighs and says, "You do not know do you? You have not been by your bakery? The block where you once lived is in ruins....well ruins is a poor choice of a word, is it dust. Some powerful magic is at work here. Your family and friends along with some others were quite upset with the dark lord for putting a stop to their business practices and they put up quite a resistance. The dark lord himself came down himself with his black guards and destroyed the very area to set an example. This was months ago. Fire smothered in the sky for over a week before the fire burned itself out. It was not simply them getting caught but a destruction of their very nature and all that we hold dear."

Tears start to fall down her face and Egans words break the silence, "You have brought dour news for everyone here, Lady Olna. I am reluctant to ask you about my own family because of this. I can see that these times have even pressed you." Egan lets his disguise fall from him as he takes out a 'kerchief and wipes the smudge from Olna's cheek "What brought you in such a rush that you did not compose yourself before sitting here? And you have stuttered twice tonight when telling us that you would take us to your home. What has upset you this much?" Olna can no longer bring her gaze up to meet your eyes as more and more tears rush from her eyes to splatter upon the table. She finally speaks, "Tis not a rush but I have no where to live. Our homes are destroyed, our family killed well except you Egan I do not know the fate of your family. I live in my family's crypt and sleep upon my fathers grave. (sob) I have not bathed in the months since I last saw you. The counsel member lives with me and sleeps on my aunts grave. (sob) The old town and the graveyards are safe for now. We have kept silent here in the old town to divert the attention of the powers that be. They think that all that live here are the beggars, drug runners, and the dirtiest whores. You know the ones that they cannot tax."

Adrian slams his fist into his hand. And stares off as Olna relates her tale. Then he slips out of his seat and slips over to the bar. Once there he sweeps off the hat that covered his unmistakable black hair and swipes away the subtle touches of makeup that had altered his face.

Throshkar delaBlanche

Your wife... It is a punch in the stomach from an ogre mage -- some knight he is. He had literally forgotten about his wife in all the madness and adventure. The two of them had simply been a society arrangement, of much more political benefit than emotional bond, but still... a cavalier should not abandon a lady in need.

And then...

Angelia... she's dead??

All other words, all other people, all other concepts disappear. They are gone, and there is only her.

Memories of elegant cotillions, passing glances... a social call here, a fortuitous meeting there... uncomfortably attending a salon study just for the excuse to be near her, to hear her voice and bask in her wisdom and beauty...

...mysterious eyes, shaded, protecting a love never known...

Throshkar sits in uncharacteristic silence. He has not heard a word beyond 'powerless'. The tragedies befalling Adrian and Olna are part of another world; sensing his master's distraction, Louis steps up:

"Miss Olna -- yer, yer always been so beautiful, an' you ain't stopped now. Don't you worry about what you've gone n' had to do, or about what's happened. We're here, an' we're gonna fix it all. We're gonna stop him." He looks to the mage and cleric, men of great power and wisdom in his eyes. "Can you spell a way for the lady to... you know... take a right proper shower? Or even a bath?"

Just to be clear to the new guys -- Throshkar is madly in love with Johnathan's now-dead wife. It's not something most of his friends know, even Johnathan, and not Louis, though I imagine Olna may have picked up on it. Maybe not.

Separately, I'm hoping to make Louis smarter than Throshkar, if not as charismatic...

Olna smiles when she sees Louis's encouragement and then turns to the silent Throshkar, "I am really sorry for your loss Throshkar, I had forgotten how much she meant to you. There is still hope if you can find a priest powerful enough to resurrect her from the dead. Her body lies in my families crypt for safe keeping. Jonathon needs you now more than ever. You must be strong for his sake, he looks up to you like an older brother, he always has."

I can Raise her if she has been dead no more than 12 dyas. When we have a safe place and time to do it, I will need some more study but I may be able to ressurrect her if she has been gone for more time than that. But that is neither here nor there. First we needs to fulfil the mission.

Louis shakes his head at Regis. "Tha's nice an' all, but I was jes' askin' fer Miss Olna here. It's tha little things what help sometimes."

Olna's words draw forth Throshkar's gaze, flat and blue. Slowly, he focuses on what she is saying; her sobs from before echo back to him in memory, hanging in the fog over Regis' rumbling baritone.

Arcane enhancements, mystic songs of yore, and now resurrection of the dead... magic has an easy answer for everything... doesn't it? But it doesn't solve the chill in his heart. Nor stop the sudden boiling in his brain. Inspiration has struck, black and hot and terrible.

'Johnathan... what have you done...?'

Throshkar rises. For an instant, he seems to stand at a precipice, tempted and terrified by the fall. The moment passes, and his face is his own again. But there is no smile.

"Milady, you'll not live like this any longer. You have served your lord a thousand times over; you will this night with your charge be ta'en in by the good Prince, our Future King, and be treated as the fair and worthy maid you are. You know Aantier well -- he and a troop of loyal cavaliers wait for you outside the city. This eve or the morrow at latest, you'll sleep in safety, if not comfort, and have both in half a fortnight."

'Johnathan...!'

"Let us to your family after but the briefest of meals. I would have you safe forthwith, and..." '...and I don't want you to see what I do to your beloved Johnathan, my dear old friend, if he be as I fear.' "...and I have little stomach for food or beverage." He motions to the nearest server -- going to get them if need be -- and orders a quick dinner for everyone.

Egan Brahe

Egan comforts Olna as she finally breaks and offers a few kind words. He is sorry for having done this to her, taken away her last veil of dignity, but veils of secrecy do not build strong allies. And yet, I would hold the location of the Prince from her. Irony.

"Can you spell a way for the lady to... you know... take a right proper shower? Or even a bath?"

"You have a good heart young, Louis. You will make a fine cavalier. But that magic I do not possess. " As Throsh orders some food, Egan is just happy that the brash knight didn't go rushing out the door to do something really bad. Maybe the mist would have stopped him at the door, not remembering where he was going? It was bad enough that he let Olna off the hook, promising to whisk her away from all of her toils. They probably still needed her in the city, sleeping on a coffin, to get all of the counsel members out.

"We need to plan this. There are a lot of counsel members to collect. Which are the most vulnerable right now, and which are the safest? Which do we go after first? Our main goal is their safety, which may, Lady Olna, require your particular talents and connections in this city for a bit longer. If we get the opportunity we need to get intelligence on the Dark Lord and his knights as well. Perhaps Jonathon has done some of this already. We should find him and Kilmer if we can." Egan rubs his head in thought. "So many possibilities. We should act on what we know. Collect the counsel member from the graveyard, and Jonathon and the counsel member from the east city. Can we do this tonight? Tomorrow, I can scry for the 5th council member from the encampment. Then we can move from there."

The waiter brings over large plates filled with food. Olna looks torn as she starts speaking again, "I do not think that I can leave my city again. My work is here as hard as it is to be here. The resistance needs me. I will help you get the counsel members to safety." Turning to Regis she continues, "I am sorry she has been dead for longer than a month."

She then addresses the whole party, "We should move quickly, your troops might quickly be found. Let us try to get the counsel members out that we can before the sun comes up. Do you have any more questions before we leave here?"

"As you will, milady." 'I won't let you see what happens to Johnathan... oh, God, let me be wrong.' For once, Throshkar pauses over his food to offer a sincere and silent prayer, nodding as Regis offers a more vocal message to the Lord Above.

The cavalier then eats with purpose, disregarding the points of etiquette by which he normally stands in order to get at the necessary nutrients with as little time wasted as possible. He does not make a mess, but neither is it clean. Fingers are the order of the day.

Louis, too, eats quickly, though with some semblance of manners. He glances up at Egan from time to time. 'Ye will make a good cavalier? 'm already an officer, led a troop! Silly old wizzer,' he thinks with a chuckle. As for Olna... 'Cain't let 'er get hurt. If Johnathan ain't by 'er side, then I'll be there.'

"Oh, Miss Olna -- what's our escape routes? If we get split up or gotta get outta town, where do we meet up afterward, an' how d'we get there?"

"There is a tunnel here we can leave by, it will draw the least amount of suspicion. We can leave the city via the smugglers means. The smuggles have been helping the resistance by helping us get people in and out of the city as well as getting us goods that we need. I will take you to my home and we can decide the best course of action from there. I am uncertain where this farm is that is housing your troops." Olna continues to pick at her food as if she is only mildly interested in the taste.

Throshkar delaBlanche

Throshkar catches sight of a fuzzy halfling moving away from the group, rather than returning from the bar. His words are a muddle due to the magical surroundings, though the cavalier remains unaware of the cause, but he recognizes slinking off when he sees it.

When shouting proves insufficient, Throsh tosses down a deep swallow of ale and heads off after his compatriot. A short gesture indicating he will meet the rest of them outside is all he leaves behind.

Louis finishes his meal carefully. He places a few coins on the table as payment, then looks expectantly to Egan and Regis.

Catching up to the smaller man, Throshkar grabs him lightly on the shoulder, across the nape of the neck. "Da Gra. Wither do you go?" His grip, like the tone of his words, is not business-like, but neither is it entirely casual.

Just FYI, I will probably not be posting much in the weekday evenings going forward. There's also a chance I'll be buying a house, moving in, and doing some renovations in the coming month, which may impact my participation as well.

Going home Throsh. The halfling srushes the arm off and sits down, leaning against the wall of the Tavern. 'M going home. He stares for a moment at his hands, one still covered in the flour that was his calling card. You realize who did this? And what 'e was? Effin' human aristo, that's who. Not just aristo, royal. Tell me, you really think that makes him more honorable? Him and those flash knights in their flash black armor. He laughs. It's got class after all. Heh. But I never lied to you, no, I'm the Lady's son after all. Was. Whatever. 'Course, she wasn't a Lady in your terminology. On my father's side, I'm the Baker's Boy, with flour on my hands. And right now, Adrian Gray is going to go to the Green Hills Bakery, and say some words that need to be said. And you are going to sit here and take a good long ponder on the following facts. This whole affair, it's bigger than your honor. All that matters, all that matters is that that flash bastard Dark Prince of yours has his whole big stupid world crash down around his ears before he dies. You understand? He dies, and to do that you may very well have to put up with the disgrace of having your strength enhanced, even beyond that gift of birthright luck you call your armor and sword, you wounds healed, 'cause you're a good fighter, and we need you.

Your messed up sense of honor made this, in part, understand? He wants the people to worship him. Where do you think that arrogence came from? Effing aristos. The halfling stands up, and starts climbing up the wall. Think about your honor Throshkar. Reject the indoctrination. You're a good man, better than most aristos. Hell, better 'n most people. But the messed you up man. Honor is what you make it, not what those people tell you. The rules are important man, but only when they're the right rules.

Throshkar delaBlanche

Over the past few weeks, exactly what Adrian truly is has begun to percolate through Throshkar's mind, and his latest words will soon piece two and two together... but that puzzle is far away, pushed off by more immediate concerns. Friends in need, an honor to reclaim, an enemy to destroy. Throshkar hardly watches as the halfling climbs the wall.

"Blood cannot conquer foul deeds."

The cavalier's voice is unusually tempered. He's almost... mature? "My mentor told me that more than once. I've known it long, but I don't think I always understood it. Blood of birth... blood of revenge..."

"This Lord has no honor. You should not abandon yours just because he has abandoned his. Nor should you deny the existence of my honor -- or your own -- simply because others have none." 'Something I should remember... if I can...'

"But go, if you must. I won't wait for you to complete our mission. I hope you know where we are headed."

"I surely do not."

The cavalier, heedless of whether the halfling is even still there and listening, turns to go back to their table. If there is nothing further, he and Louis will gather rest of the party, reset their "disguises", and follow Olna's guidance.

Olna smiles at Throshkar's attempt to reason with the small man. She looks around at the party, "Let us go then, I will try to talk with Adrian." She walks out into the mist where Adrian is trying to climb on the walls to escape from the grief that surrounds him. " Adrian...Adrian....Adrian" Olna calls out to him until he turns to look at her. She comes close and bends down to the small mans level like one would address a troubled child. "I am sorry for your loss...I know these words do not help you feel any better. Your family will have died in vain if we do not succeed in our mission. We will get revenge but it has to wait until we are sure it can succeed. We can visit the site of your bakery on the way to my home. Come with us please..." Olna waits for a response from the small man.

I'm not leaving. Adrian slams his fist into the wall. I'm going home, to see my bakery. And then I'm coming with you and... he stops. "getting revenge" he had been going to say. But... Rule one: Nothing personal. He'd been... rash. The way the others reacted ought to have been warning enough. Control it, man, not the other way around. He stops, takes a deep breath, and nods at Olna and Throsh. It's okay. I'm okay. C'mon though, let's not make me wait.

Olna nods and reaches down to hold his hand. She leads him out as well as the party through the mist and opens a trap door on the floor. The party moves through the narrow passageway. After a few moments of following Olna in the near dark you come to a iron door. Olna opens it and it exits onto a side street. She puts her finger to her mouth as she exits the passageway still holding the halflings hand. She discards her bouncer costume back into the iron door and then closes it. The iron door shifts into bricks and in a few moments you can no longer see the door. She smiles and says, "Let's go see your home Adrian"

You follow Olna for several miles of the city streets. You are surprised at how many people are out on the streets at this hour of the night. Olna keeps to the side streets only crossing the main streets when she absolutely has to. After an hour you come to a street blocked by rubble. As your eyes adjust to the lack of glowing street gems you notice that all the buildings in the area are rubble. Olna stops for a moment then climbs into the rubble, "Be careful in here, we do not want to attract any attention."

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/af/Destruction_in_a_Berlin_street.jpg

You climb over crushed stonewalls, wooden planks, broken glass, and bones. You can still smell the stench of death here as you carefully pick your way across the barren wasteland. After what seems like forever, the rubble changes to small pebbles and dust. The dust blankets your clothing and armor. Olna keeps walking until she finally stops and turns to the party, "Adrian, here is where you families bakery was, I am sorry." You look around and see only dust with destroyed building surrounding you. You feel truly alone right now.

Throshkar is equally silent as the rest, but his eyes and body are active and intent. After the party crosses the rubbled border, he trembles slightly every so often.

He comes to a halt and listens to Adrian's words solemnly. When the halfling is so quick to turn away, though, the cavalier raises his hand. "Regis. Would you, please?" His gaze is almost pleading. 'I don't know how to speak to God. Not here, surely. Why? Why would He allow such a... a...?' Even his thoughts trail away into dust.

Regis

It is of dark men, abusing the gift of free will that have done this. The Lord has given us the most powerful of gifts, minds of our own. It is through those minds that we can accomplish anything, from the building of great castles, to tearing down the smallest families. Regis speaks quietly but firmly. The conviction and steel in his voice are hard and a little disturbing. The priest has been relatively quiet these past few hours until now.

His hand falls on Adrian's shoulder I will pray with you this evening for their souls. We can return later and fix it up when this is all done. But for now, so we are still able to do these things, we must finish the job that we have begun. His voice says what his words cannot "I am sorry"

Olna nods after the prayer is complete and takes Adrian's hand once again and silently leads him (and the rest of the party) out of the forsaken area of the city.

You find yourself still in silence after a few hours of navigating the city. You feel tired, maybe it is because you are heading into the hill district but or that you have been up for so long. You enter into an old park no larger than a small home clustered between three old buildings. A long dead tree stands in the center and a lone grave stone lies upon the ground before the tree. Finally Olna breaks the silence at the end of an old alleyway, "We will enter the old graveyard, be careful of what you see down here. Some things are real and sine are mere illusions aimed to trick the mind. Do not stray from the path and make every attempt to step in my foot prints." Olna opens an old rusty gate that squeaks and leads you into the old graveyard. You gather around the grave stone as Olna bows down and dusts the dirt from off the stone. The writing upon the stone has long since worn away. After another moment of silence Olna stands and turns to Throshkar and in a whisper says, "Throsy, will you please lift the stone from the left side for a lady?"

[Throshkar if/when you lift it]

Throshkar's body and spirit hums like a plucked string at the warrior-priest's prayer. 'We must finish the job...' He is a live wire; he is vengeance incarnate; he is the hands of justice and of glory....

* * *

Arriving at the graveyard, relief floods to Throshkar's face. It has been an arduous journey, filled with battles he is ill-equipped to face, so when Olna asks for his assistance, he puts all his considerable strength into the effort -- and flinches comically when the gravestone lifts with great ease. The other end of the rock is on a concealed hinge, which moves without a sound.

After opening the unusual "door", the cavalier looks down -- there is a well-used ladder leading into darkness. He halts before starting down. "Miss Olna. You instructed that you should be at the fore?"

Olna nods at Throshkar's question and steps down onto the ladder and quickly descends into darkness. You reluctantly exchange glances before following her down into the depths of the unknown....

You are surprised to find that your feet touch down on cobblestone. A faint light illuminates the underground area similar to a dark night with only a few stars. As your eyes adjust to this new area you see that you are standing on an old road. Small buildings in ruins appear on either side of this street. You feel as if you were transported from the surface to another world, only the faint light from the world above and the ladder remind you of where you came from. The grave stone above quickly resets and falls back into place with a quiet thud.

Olna addresses the party, "Welcome to the underworld. This is part of the old city that was preserved by the mage's guild hundreds of years ago. Their ancestors were buried in the old graveyard and they wanted to preserve their history, as the story goes....but I am guessing something more sinister was at work. This underground area is well preserved but riddled with traps and temptations. Stay clear and follow me. You can also drop those silly disguises no one will care who you are down here."

Your eyes have finally adjusted and you glance around. Some of the old stone buildings still have roofs and door ways while others are just a large pile of stones. Something catches your eye and you turn to look. You think you saw a stone white skeleton with red eyes glaring at you from one of the old buildings but when you look again it is gone. You feel a chill of fear in your stomach.

You try your best to only step where she has stepped. You pass old houses and shops that have not seen the light of day in years. You feel as if time has stood still down here for hundreds of years. Finally, Olna stops and smiles, we are her. She approaches an old stone fence surrounding a graveyard. You see a large crypt with a iron door in the center of the small graveyard. There are other large stone coffins surrounding the crypt placed upon the ground. Olna starts moving towards the fence and stops abruptly signing for you to stop. "Regis, the torch! NOW! As Regis fumbles to draw the torch out of its sack the light illuminates the graveyard and you see four shapes lumbering toward you.

The creatures are all but bones now but with their internal organs still hanging inside the rib cages. You see a long purple tongue swishing the creatures face.

Throshkar delaBlanche

Tiptoeing through the night's shadows like thieves has put Throshkar's already raw nerves on edge. Deep down, he wants to laugh at the bizarre turn his life has taken these past few months, but something ominous weighs down on him.

At the sight of the walking corpses and their foul purple tongues, the cavalier hesitates. Are they a trick of the night? When Regis stands forward and curses them, though, the warrior knows what to do.

"Abominations, cast off from this sacred ground!! You face Throshkar, knight of the good prince!" He draws his sword on the run, and brings it down forcefully upon the creature. The skeletal thing is more agile than he expected, however, and dodges lithely away from the blow.

Louis, meanwhile, takes swift but wary steps forward. "Stay behind me, Miss Olna!"

Louis isn't as cavalier as Throshkar -- move to I9 and Total Defense, +4 to AC. I just realized I don't have a table for Louis' level 3 stats and abilities; here's his character sheet (http://www.coyotecode.net/profiler/view.php?id=4797) for now.

Throshkar Charge to P8. Quick Draw sword and attack Q8.

Egan Brahe

The site of the bakery disturbs Egan as he studies the burn site. "These be dark times... what evils has The Dark Lord allied himself with?"

---------------------------

When they enter the underworld, Egan becomes visibly uncomfortable as he realizes the undead that roam this area. His stories of the unsavory magics of Necromancy come to mind when you see his anxiety. He casts Mage Armor upon himself to bring some protection. A vile magic to bring these back. At Olna's warning words he focuses himself on following footsteps rather than searching the area.

---------------------------

At the graveyard, Egan lets Regis step forward to turn the creatures in the hopes that this is all that is needed, but is as disappointed as Regis in the result. Well, then we blast them. As prepares his spell and steps forward to release, Throsh charges into battle once again. Egan redirects his spell at the last moment in a hope to miss the warrior. Damned fool.

The creatures quickly start to move forward after being blasted by the cold air. The magical cold seems to have some effect on the creatures as some of their exposed bones become brittle and break but it does not stop them from moving towards you. They move quickly but seem unable to attack before you are able to ready your defense. They surround you except for the lone one attacking the brave knight.

The one attacking Throshkar is unable to hit the warrior with its slam attack as the knight quickly dodges. However, the creatures tongue touches the brave knight. Throshkar feels a tingling at the site where the tongue touched his skin (DC17 Fort save - see spoiler for details).

Throshkar delaBlanche

The cavalier growls when he sees his foes flee the field; instead of engaging their proper enemy, himself, they slither over to his allies and friends, weaker targets all. Only the one corpse remains before him, and it is too slow to provide a challenge; though its foul tongue slaps him on the face, its limbs flail without purpose.

"Ha! Come back and face me, monsters!" He slashes effortlessly at his opponent, holding back his force in favor of dexterity, and is rewarded with a sickening thunk with his first blow; a follow-up strike lands true as well, and though the third is less accurate, the cavalier exults in his glorious strength!

Regis

Regis see his friends falling for the paralyzing touch and thinks quickly. His only chance to rescue this was to revive Throshkar moving with an unseen swiftness he darts over to Throsh and lay hands on him Lord, cleanse this man so that he may thwart the minions of evil. A cleansing wash of power flows through the knight freeing him from the poisons (and any other ailment). Then again Reigs darts away, how the ponderous bulk moves like that you will never know.

Throshkar delaBlanche

The cavalier unsteadily gets to his feet. The feeling of being trapped... he can't shake the horrid sensation of watching his friends combat enemies while he lay immobile.

"Th-thank you," the words stumble out, but Regis is yards away already. Louis is -- no -- where is Louis? "Von Koch!" he calls. Throshkar surveys the battlefield swiftly, spotting his squire some distance away, prone and twitching slightly. So too has fallen Brahe, but both seem alive, at least from this position.

Snatching up his weapon, the blonde warrior grits his teeth fiercely. "Come back here, you rotting villain!" he bellows at the remaining foe. 'Did they even need me here? Was I just a burden??'

Louis remains frozen. DC10 Spot to see Louis? Or since Throsh is actively looking for him, is it easier? [roll0] Nevermind, that should do.

Throshkar stands. He'll pick up his bastard sword, or, if that's not possible in this round, he'll draw his lance.

Throshkar flings off his strange worries and hurtles back into combat. "Ha! The mighty Bishop Regis will destroy you, dastard fiends, if I don't do it first!!" A slash of his blade under the creature's guard sunders its belly....

"Not again!" Throshkar's teeth shine bright and white in the shape of a vicious, gleeful grin. "You cannot harm me, dead man!"

Two might slashes scarcely miss the creature, but they were only setting it up for Throshkar's final blow -- a deft, full-bodied thrust that jams his weapon to its hilt upwards through the monster's ribcage. For a moment, the mohrg sprouts a shimmering, bladed angel's wing.

After pulling his blade free, the cavalier lets out a victorious whoop, pumping both arms in the air.

Regis looks at the others and begins to check everyone's wounds. The paralysis should wear off shortly my friends, I can do nothing for you right now. She then skips toward the crypt and takes a key from around her neck and unlocks the iron door. She turns towards you and smiles in a child like way before entering the dark crypt. You exchange glances uncertain of what to do next.

Throshkar laughs heartily. "Mighty cleric! Hard pressed? The way you simply walked through them like they were dust in the wind...!" He laughs and claps his hands. "I suffer no wound, and you shatter them to dust with but a word! What have we to fear, eh?" He bows to Olna with a flourish. "And all the while, milady plays us a cheerful tune, what?"

The cavalier kneels at Louis' side, offering him an encouraging grin. "Yon Regis saved us, Louis," he says. "The creatures had near all of us frozen, but he danced 'mong them as though they were naught but sleepy children needing chastisement." He shakes his head ruefully.
