I know WH40K is awesome. I also know Super Mario is awesome. There are otehrs who know these. It stands to reason that the idea that those two can somehow be combined should have occured to someone else. But it's a crazy world, so that might not be the case.

A random bit from the net that fired up the idea:
"And then, the mighty Mario did thus cometh up from a pipe, and did collect many coins, and he did defeat the wicked King.

Alas, the princess for whom he sought, had been in another castle...."

(Mushroom 3:16)
...

Simple word swapping of 40K's tropes page gives us this:
It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Mushroom Kingdom. He is the Master of Koopakind by the will of the gods, and master of a million pipes by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is an 8-bit sprite writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of SNES. He is the Bowser of the Imperium for whom a thousand green mushrooms are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battleships cross the ?block-infested miasma of the pipelines, the only route between distant worlds, their way lit by the Goombamican, the psychic manifestation of Bowser's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Koopartes, the Space Koopas, bio-engineered super-turtles. Their comrades in arms are legion: the countless Imperial Goomba, the ever vigilant Koopasition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Bob-ombus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from toadstools, dinosaurs, plumbers - and worse.
...

Goombas readily fit into the role of Imperial Guard while Koopa Troopas obviously become Space Marine analogues. And the Immortal King of Koopakind is catchy. Maybe add a bloodthirsty race of rampaging dinosaurs that crush everything in their path with a green tide of YOOOSHI! And there'll need to be the Peach Heresy, where Holy Bowser's beloved (wife? daughter? niece? cousin?) was seduced and turned against Him by the Ruinous Plumbers... Possibilities are nigh endless.

But what I'm REALLY looking for is someone who has already done the work. In other words, I want to have the mushroom, and eat it too. So, has anyone come across something like this from their journeys across the nets?

Wow. That would be a lot of typing. So what's the point of this, write aa story based on one of the Mario games?

Well, Grimdark Mario has been written up quite (http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/2470758/) a lot. (http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/2776654/) (probably not entirely safe for work, I dunno)

These /40k/ threads are making me really want to play a low fantasy Mario P&P RPG.

I've been working on a rewrite (nothing major, just a minor Word document) of the series myself, but with more of a general high fantasy theme and not so much grimdark.
