Another thread maxed, another thread created. Welcome to volume III, and here is:

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/466/betasig2dm3.png (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/)

What happens when the monsters you're supposed to be fighting band together and start hunting you down looking for vengeance? Well, I don't know, but a young Rogue named Lana is about to find out from a perspective she never thought she'd see in her life... or death.

Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

A website? Blasphemy!!

Actually, it's true. Turns out this comic was getting a little too big for it's own shoes here, so I decided to move it off-site. If you're looking for it, click the banner image up top, or just click here (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/). All the fanart has been transferred to the website, so there's not much more for me to keep here. If you really want to see more, head to the site!

What new thinga-mabob

The search feature is the new thingy. Zarah and I went through and tagged all the comics with words we thought described the most important features of each comic, so you can click that little button on the lower-right of the page and search for comics. For example, if you want to look for all comics referencing the Valley of the Night at all, simply type in "Valley of the Night". If you remember that joke about V8 vegetable juice but you can't remember when it happened, just type in "V8" and you should be able to find it!

I know it's something I've personally been looking for for a while (since I have a horrible memory; seriously, I probably couldn't follow weekly episodes of the Teletubbies without forgetting plotlines :smalltongue:), so we're hoping this feature will help people to find comics much more easily.

A question I've always wanted to ask:

Why do vampires always wear black ? In this comic, and nearly every portrayal of them in the media, they always seem to wear these kind of clothes. But black vestments are thermal collectors, and the sun's heat is especially dangerous to vampires. So isn't wearing white a better idea to be protected from the sun ?

They don't usually go out in the day. Also, during the night it is easier to hide with darker clothes.

Wreckingrocc
2009-04-04, 01:43 PM
Besides, it's hard to tell who is a vampire if they don't fit the universal vampire dress code. It would leave thousands confused.

Lyinginbedmon
2009-04-04, 01:50 PM
I agree with the night predator theory, but then there's also the fact that Vampires are typically very stylish and black goes with just about everything.

Crahen

But I can't find the search feature?

It should be a little icon to the lower right of the comic that looks like this: http://antiheroescomic.com/client_include/images/searchbutton.gif

If it's not there, that's very strange, but try a cache refresh (hold down Shift while pressing the refresh button, in Firefox at least).

Wait? What?! Its the radiation from the sun that harms vampires, not the heat.

sheepofoblivion
2009-04-04, 07:43 PM
in that case, they'd die anyway. It's obviously the rays. (Which wouldn't work either, because it's reflected from the moon, so they'd only be able to go out on a starless night (or be caught by another sun) on a new moon, sure to avoid wizards with any sunlight spells)

Lyinginbedmon
2009-04-04, 08:53 PM
It could be an energy issue, it's possible the distance between the sun-earth and sun-moon-earth is just enough for the radiation/rays to lose enough energy for vampires to be unaffected (Or maybe they experience a slight tingling sensation in moonlight, but nothing significantly detrimental).

Why do vampires wear black?

'Cause they're vampires. Geez.

in that case, they could just cast protection from energy and walk outside. It's the actual contact with direct sunlight that affects them.

The scene is an rip-off of homage to the Wizard of Oz, specifically the scene where the four of them are about to go in and see the Wizard and the Cowardly Lion tries to wuss out. (Note that Kaal's face-paint makes him look cat-like.)

Honestly, if I wasn't working on the play, I wouldn't have gotten it either.

I appreciate the worry, but don't fret, for I am indeed alive. As I already said, I was sick for a good while there, but on top of that I've been writing exams for the past two weeks, and for the icing on that is a big heaping of writer's block for the comic itself. I think that cereal prize manufacturers need better screening processes.

"Are you an evil genius?"

This is so silly. If he wasn't incorporeal I would slap Kaal. I love these silly things with dramatic plots. I just spent the evening reading this whole thing, and love the premise. Always tried to get a game of all monsters, but always ended up people wanting to be overly evil and ending it too son. Glad this story has a few with a bit more reserve that shows and all monster party can work!

Just one question was Keriss or Aldran supposed to be the scarecrow?

It is good to see that without life's grater commitments the Goat is as usually able to do regural strips.

English isn't my mother language so I may not understad some puns.
In this conversatin between Turrik an Aldran:

Turrik: By the Gods...You mean that scroll actually worked?!
Aldran: Like a charm.
Turrik:

Well,this... This changes everything!
Especially where I buy my food!
Can you belive that some siko actually put a working scroll of Lifeblood into a box of cereals?!
Aldran: I dunno. I thought it was kinda funny.
The uderlined sentence is supposed to have the secondary meaning that Aldran put the scroll in the box in the first place? Or It simply means that in a fantasy world with cereal boxes and other "modern things" would be normal if somone put a working scroll as a "rare bonus gift"?

Excuse me if i misuderstood.

Aldran just finds the idea of someone putting a working evil spell in a cereal box funny.

In real-world terms, Turrik found a razor blade in his cereal, Aldran thought it was funny, and they then bet to see if it was any good.

My prediction for Antiheroes:

Aldran casts a powerful and risky diabolical divination spell to learn more about the temple. The antiheroes discovers its location and the fact that it is now submerged underwater, but during the ritual Aldran is snatched away by a powerful entity and imprisoned in the temple, and can only be released by travelling to the temple and doing a certain ritual.

Keriss decides to travel to the temple and release Aldran and gain its power/treasure, and manages to persuade Kaal to come along with her, but Lana is having none of it. The two women argue (but not, to Kaals great dissapointment, catfight).

As it is now morning, Turrick lets Lana stay the day in his castle, where she has a dream that a powerful magic item, known as the Ring of Blood, which gives a vampire sustinence, so she does not have to kill sentinent beings while still retaining her vampire powers, can be found in the temple. This dream causes her to change her mind and decide to rejoin Keriss and go to the temple after all.

Meanwhile, Keriss has decided to start a new party and she interveiws all sorts of hillarious and unsuitable neutral and evil adventurers, but cant find a suitable replacement for Lana.

Lana finds Keriss in an inn. The meeting is frosty and confused, as Lana does not want to ask Keriss if she can rejoin her party, thus admitting she was wrong, and Keriss does not want to ask Lana to join her party again, admitting she depends on her, and both fear rejection. The tone of the meeting should be similar to that between Ferrante and Mazarin in Umberto Ecos The Island of the Day Before. But eventually, the two women are reconciled.

Lana, Keriss, Kaal and 2-3 new party members travel in a magic bronze submarine towards the temple.

Eldhil arrives at the inn just after the Antiheroes have left (and before his paladins), and gets into a destructive fight with those neutral and evil adventurers who Keriss didn't recruit, but manages to find out roughly where she is heading. On the way back to Tydaris he encounters Andil, Laldera and Hilmor, whom he then conscripts, as they know Lana.

After using the Libary of Tydaris to locate the temple, Zurie, Eldhil, Andil, Laldera, Hilmor, Finx and over a dozen paladins set off in a lateen rigged ship, possibly a Xebec, in hot persuit of the Antiheroes. Due to the large number of people on the ship Zurie & Laldera have to share a cabin.

Okay, so there's no comic today. It'll still be the same host, same features and all that good stuff, but some of the user settings might be affected by the change. So if I've got this right,

Eldhin is almost at or in the valley of the night and is going to get up in the party's face again (I can see him killing Turrick, since he only knew Aldran would turn up ten minutes ahead of time) meanwhile Zurie is following Ardearas orders and is planing something for Finx to do (who used to know Aldran in the 200 years since Aldran was born and was probably there 37 years ago when Eldhin "killed" Aldran, not to mention my confusion of over how Turrick is over 200 years old; I thought old age got rid of people in D&D?)
Finally we don't know what the prohecy is yet or how it relates to Aldran offing Arderas

Right?

... I'm thinking its time for a timeline.

Well, I'm not going to comment on everything you said, but Turrick's age shouldn't be a point of confusion. The Player's Handbook clearly shows that the average maximum age of a Gnome is about 350 years. Turrick might be pushing it, but it's far from unnatural.

Funny. I love your characters, each one is unique and awesome in his or her own way!

There's a new Anti-World comic (http://antiheroescomic.com) out in lieu of today's normal update. Enjoy!

And I'm back with a new comic (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/comic/196). A little later than I'd like, but it's here nonetheless.

Yeah, I spent too much time down in Freeform Role-Playing that I had to semi-retire the poor goat. At least he's still around, though. :smalltongue:

Also, Saturday's update is now up (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/comic/197) a little early.

Has anyone else noticed the rather poor TV Tropes article (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Anti-HEROES) Anti Heroes has?

It's a disgrace! As Anti-Heroes fans, we must all pitch in the improve the article. Who's with me?

Poor Bugbear. If only Lana had asked him his name, if he had answered he would have been protected from such an unfortunate death! :smalltongue:

Anti-Heroes has a TV Tropes article? Wow, when did that happen? And why wasn't I notified?

On a more serious note, I'm willing fix any misspelled names and incorrect plot details on the page, but obviously nothing beyond what you already know. :smalltongue:

The description of the comic needs a serious overhaul.

It was started for the sole purpose of telling a story, as opposed to the evermore popular gag-a-day variety that makes a story in order to stay on the web.

Uhh... What?

One that is confusing and unnecessary.

This is like, the best fancomic I've ever seen. You are truly an artist.

I am SO following this comic on your website.

No, that would be Kaal.

I actually prefer Zurie, and Eldhin, and I cant wait to see the other two senior members of the veil soon.

Whenever I see the veil I find myself rooting for the good guys, no that isn't right, bad guys?, no that doesn't fit either antagonists, I guess.

Actually, I have to admit, that ever since her introduction, Zurie has been my favorite character to write for. In fact, I love everyone from the Veil and I'm excited that I'll finally be able to (pardon the pun) unveil the rest of them.

I like writing for Aldran too, which is why he kind of hijacked the comic for his own story. I'm enjoying writing all the characters the further I get into their development as well, but the Veil still takes point as my favorites.

Yeah, I love Zurie, too.

The main function of this post, however, is that when Zarah updates, he doesn't feel bad about double-posting.

I have to add me voice to the Zurie is awesome crowd. She's got a razor sharp wit and her facial expressions are spot on.

Have we seen any of the Ivory Veil killing unarmed octogenarians?

Wait-maybe they do it off pannel. Ah well.

Regarless, Aldran has told us that not all of the Ivory Veil are paladins.

Issue 200 is officially released (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/comic/200)! Sorry for the wait, but making a triple issue is harder than it looks. :smalltongue:

I gave a bit of a speech on the website, so I'll keep things short here. Thanks to everyone for reading the comic and let's hope things go as smoothly for the next 200 issues!
