I am so far from my goal its not funny. I want to get a male, Female, Stage 2 hatchling and a stage 1 hatchling of every dragon in game that I can still get.

I want to have 9 of each dragon. I've only managed a few so far, basically the purple, the female silvers, the blacks and recently the sky dragons. Oh, and the winter ones. The old pinks I won't be able to get 9 of. :smallfrown:

Edit:
These are my current hatchlings/eggs:

I don't think I could possibly have fathomed just how addicting this thing is when I got my first egg :smalleek: I go out of my way while I'm in class to make sure they're alive and keep an eye on them and whatnot... it's driving me crazy!

And yeah, I want 9 of each for the sake of collecting them. I think 9 is a pretty nice number to get one of. Or 7. Anyways, I hope those fall ones grow up. I'll have my collection of fall dragons complete if they do!

This would happen just after I'd bred ALL my dragons...

Let's see, I think I went thru the whole scroll Saturday? Or was it yesterday...ah well, I'll probably have time to get a couple.

Winters too? I still need one, either male or female I forget which. Figured they would come out today.

*goes to lurk at dragcave*

EDIT: Crap. I'm "at the limit" for the holiday dragon. I guess I'll just have to wait and breed him later this week for someone else to have. Then get this years holiday dragon.

I more or less was. I never post a new egg for the fisrt 24 or 48 hours. Bu from wht I could tell happened with the 08 hoiliday eggs is, I must have sniped someones trade and they got pissed and posted all my eggs on a bunch of fan sights. But from now on I will be sure to fog them too.

Edit: WOW I just look at the AP (its 8:49 EST here) and it is full of nothing but 09 hoilday eggs!

EmeraldRose
2009-12-27, 09:45 AM
Yeah, that happened last year too. The poblem is, with the main page full of holiday eggs (and the limit being two) people will just click on the over and over and get more than the limit. Which forces the eggs automatically onto the AP.

Sorry about your 08 ones. Hopefully you will be able to get them later on! :smallfrown:

I have a worrying suspicion that all of my eggs will get soft shells, although they haven't had a problem yet.

When will I actually know if each egg has had enough attention?

Well I am not 100% sure but I know most of my eggs will hatch at around 200 UV. I shoot for about 1k UV over all 500 when its an egg and 500 more when its a hatchling. But I still think of my self as a nood too.

lesser_minion

I believe I have a black dragon, a horse dragon and two holiday ones, is that right?

Is it generally OK to leave the eggs out until they get soft shells (even if you think they already have too many UVs)?

Yes you do.

I try not to, but I am not to sure on this one. I have had some go soft and fogged them and they ended up being fine. But like what happened with my 08 christmas eggs sometimes fogging is not enought.

lesser_minion
2009-12-28, 08:19 PM
OK, another question, related to my first one:

Once an egg starts to crack, is it safe to assume that it will hatch on its own as long as it isn't fogged?

Basically, could I get away with removing my eggs from the forum instead of just fogging them (two of them are cracked almost completely and the holiday ones are both just starting to crack)?

Guinea Anubis
2009-12-29, 07:21 AM
ok, that one I have NO idea.

lesser_minion
2009-12-29, 07:48 AM
You might want to fog your first christmas hatchling.

From what I can tell, I was right - once a dragon egg starts cracking, it will just keep going until it hatches. Not that any of mine are there yet, although my horse and my black dragon have both holed while they were fogged.

That is a good sign, right?

Guinea Anubis
2009-12-29, 08:58 AM
Yes thats good.

Thanks, I did not even see they had hatched until just now.

EmeraldRose
2009-12-29, 06:53 PM
From my own experience, once an egg/hatchling has 'enough' views etc to go to the next stage, it simply has to wait the appropriate amount of time before doing so. Roughly 3.5 days for each stage.

Guinea Anubis
2009-12-30, 09:52 AM
So I just found out there are three adult 09 christmas dragons. One with all gold wings (http://dragcave.net/view/mrry). One with white wings with gold tips (http://dragcave.net/view/YAoo). And my favorit one with gold wings with red and green tips (http://dragcave.net/view/QUFG)

I just nabbed what I think is a magi dragon from the abandoned page (it looks like it was dropped after a breeding, so hopefully I haven't annoyed anyone).

http://dragcave.net/image/mfrK.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/mfrK)

I think I'll end up sigging everything once more of my dragons have hatched - most of my eggs seem to have hit enough UV pretty early, so it doesn't seem like everything has to be up for ages.

Although it's kind of frustrating sitting on three holed eggs and wondering if there is anything else you can do.

Also, are the three-colour (purple, black, grey) eggs dorsal, by any chance?

EmeraldRose
2009-12-30, 06:30 PM
Yes, they are dorsals. There are also the reddish dorsals, which have dark red, black, and grey eggs.

Your orange is a magi.

I suppose I will have to let both grow up, and hope that I don't end up with two of the same...:smallsigh: :smalltongue:

EmeraldRose
2009-12-31, 08:31 AM
Yeah, it tends to make things interesting. I'll usually only have four of various stages. Then when hatchlings are certain to mature, regardless of time left, I'll usually get new ones.

onthetown
2009-12-31, 08:17 PM
Once an egg starts to crack, is it safe to assume that it will hatch on its own as long as it isn't fogged?

Not if it dies first.

I had a few that started to crack, so I stopped checking on their page to see if they were sick or not. They ended up getting soft shells and died despite being almost cracked through.

On a similar note, I've been able to keep hatchlings fogged because of sickness for days on end. When I unfogged them because it said they weren't sick anymore, they hatched. If you can keep eggs or hatchlings alive until they're ready to mature, it seems like the sickness goes away automatically as soon as they're ready to mature.

EmeraldRose
2010-01-01, 11:20 AM
So, I was experimenting and got this hatchling to hatch early. Then just figured it'd mature. Just scrolling through my list and saw it'd died. For the first time, I managed to revive a dead dragon, but now it has 2 days to mature.

http://dragcave.net/image/CLeH.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/CLeH)

I will have to name her Lazarus or something...

lesser_minion
2010-01-01, 11:36 AM
Well, there's an announcement at the bottom that the dragon was forced out of its egg early - will that change the end result?

I'm assuming that reviving a dead dragon has a small chance of giving you an undead dragon, but how do you get things like neglected dragons and early hatches?

I'm going to pull the dragons that have gendered from my sig and get some new eggs - would that be a good idea?

EmeraldRose
2010-01-01, 11:49 AM
The earth dragons now have the earthquake ability, which can force dragons to hatch early. That's why it has that line in the description.

I don't think it will change the end result, but I'm not sure, this is the first time I've used that ability.

I'm not sure if it's possible to get the undead and neglected dragons anymore...

EmeraldRose
2010-01-01, 12:08 PM
Aso, as far as other fun new abilities, red dragons have the warming ability, which takes a day off time left to hatch, so they can hatch a little quicker. Pinks can increase the chances of getting male or female dragons, depending on whether it's a male or female pink. Vampires can bite, making new vampires. However, the other options are that it kills the egg outright, or it turns and then your other dragons force it out of the scoll.

The white one with gold stripes is a white stripe. There are also blue, green, and red striped ones.

As for taking gendered hatchlings off your sig, usually I've found that they'll be fine. Expecially if they are at around the 4 day mark. Just keep an eye on the and put them back in if they get under 3 days left. They should be fine...

She might be OK - she's winged and gendered, at least. It'll just be a race to see how fast she manages to grow up.

I'm trying to think up names right now - I've ended up with a black dragon who is the son of "Onnea Fortuna Etan" and "Himmel Scoven - Veritas", which both seem a little bit over the top.

I also seem to have a vague relative of a female vampire dragon called "Diversity in Death's Embrace", which is either awesome or scary and I'm not sure which.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey I be newz and stuff. Can I haz helpzorz? It would be greatly appreciated.

All you need to do to feed a dragon is put the image and a link to its page in your sig (use the code they give you).

As long as you do that on this forum, you shouldn't have a problem with not being able to feed your dragons enough (depending on how often you post and which boards).

There are two main ways a dragon can die on its own:

Not hatching or growing up on time
Sickness or soft shell, which you can get in two ways:

Getting too many unique views in too short a time
Getting more clicks than unique views (this won't happen here, although it isn't impossible)

Advice on sickness:

General advice to avoid sickness is to avoid putting a hatchling in your signature for at least a day after it hatches.

To deal with soft shell or sickness from too many unique views, you should hide the dragon for at least 24 hours.

You should also remove it from your signature anywhere you've placed it - it should have enough unique views to hatch or grow up already.

If you get more clicks than unique views, you need to check that the code you're using for your links is correct, and that the image is being displayed. There isn't much else you can do.

The only way you can get more clicks than unique views is if everyone who clicks your egg or hatchling is browsing with images disabled.

A hatchling is usually ready to grow up and just waiting on time once its wings grow in and its gender becomes apparent.

An egg is usually ready to hatch and is just waiting on time once it holes.

lesser_minion
2010-01-03, 12:25 PM
You appear to be OK.

Most of my latest batch of eggs seem to be a little slow, although I think I fogged them for too long when they got soft shell.

I'm also waiting for the chance to drop my magi dragon back into my sig - at the moment, it's newly hatched, so it would be pretty sensitive.

Oh, and IvID grew up!

I still can not find a mate for my Magma Dragon, I am starting to think he may be gay.

That happens with some dragons.
Luckily I have 2 dragons that will mate with pretty much anything....it's almost like their super power.

Also one thing I've noticed with the naming is an easy way to get around the 'taken name' thing is to have your own 'stable name' (mine is Ramkin's) that you put at the beginning. Then you can pretty much name it anything you want and it won't be taken and you'll have a consistent naming scheme.

It's pretty simple- if your eggs get softshell, fog them/hide them until it goes away (it's an option in 'actions'). Also try not to click on your eggs too often until they have some views.
Get enough views- it's pretty easy on this forum to get enough views. I usually let them get to ~1000 views (not unique views or clicks, just views) and then take them out of my sig. I've never had one die from lack of views. If you're really worried about it there are also hatching sites like Soti that you can add your eggs to.

Eggs usually don't hatch until they have 3.5 days left, same with hatchlings growing up. Some will wait later, so don't get too stressed unless you have 2 or less days and under 300 views.

Umm...I think that's it?

Your horse dragon needs fog badly.

You could probably get away with dropping it from your signature, but 4000 UV is actually scary. If it doesn't die of sickness, it will be fine.

It looked like it was still sick, and 4,000 UV is pretty frightening when 1,000 is enough to grow a hatchling to an adult without any delay or other issues.

Just remove it from your signature and leave it unhidden, I guess.

http://dragcave.net/image/RTHL.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/RTHL)

Should I be worried about the fact that all but three of my dragons have been female so far?

The new egg is an albino.

Nah, I've got a whole bunch of dragons... 15 of them are female, the remaining 8 are male. Makes for some frustrating breeding.... should probably start collecting more of the same kind.

yes. you can have a max of 4 dragon eggs/hatchlings at a time.

lesser_minion

Actually, it's possible to get 7. You can't take anything if you already have four eggs or hatchlings, and you can't keep a bred egg if it puts you over five eggs.

Good point. Anyway, how long does it usually take for a egg to hatch?

EDIT: It says for both of my eggs this:
"The shell of the egg seems soft, as though there's something wrong with it."
Is this a sign of them dying, or am I about to get a pair of baby dragons?

Good point. Anyway, how long does it usually take for a egg to hatch?

Random amount of time. If you get good enough stats not to experience a delay, then the egg will hatch with somewhere between 72 and 96 hours left on the clock.

The egg can hole with well over 96 hours left, in which case you can remove it from your sig (same goes if a hatchling genders with over 96 hours).

EDIT: You have soft shell. It means that they have too many views, and they could die.

Remove them from anywhere you've posted them, and consider using the hide action.

If they survive, they should have good enough stats to hatch already.

It's just possible for them to die. It isn't guaranteed unless you end up with something completely out of whack.

I just discovered that both of my black dragons are inbreds.

I'm probably going to try to come up with a stable of non-inbred dragons - I don't mind having inbreds, and the green I just picked up is catastrophically inbred according to his family tree, but it might be worth going for the extra challenge.

Of course, I seem to have about three non-inbreds, now that I've actually taken the time to check, so this could take a while.

Does an inbred dragon have any kinds of flaws or anything? Is it more likely to get sick? Does it affect a dragon at all?

Nothing in-game. A lot of people go "no inbreeding" as an extra challenge, so it's harder to trade inbreds, and many people who don't apparently still consider inbreds lower value.

But I got a "no interest" message as opposed to a "the dragons mate but fail to produce any eggs" message.

It is a BSA (Breed Specific Action) for pinks. Under actions they can influence an egg to become the same gender as the pink that influence it. All BSAs have a cool down.

At 6pm they turn from a rock color to the blue color, then back at I think 6am. The DC forum is saying the other 3 that are not the speckled one are going to be dropped and the speckled one is a hybrid/alt egg.

I breed some new eggs and stole another limestone one.

I just joined Dragon Cave. I now have four new eggs, and I'm about to go through this entire thread clicking every egg or dragon in every post.

My new eggs: http://dragcave.net/image/OgOD.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/OgOD)http://dragcave.net/image/JhLe.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/JhLe)http://dragcave.net/image/CcAJ.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/CcAJ)http://dragcave.net/image/eYqB.gif (http://dragcave.net/view/eYqB)

EDIT: or not. I'm exhausted after just page one. Maybe just a few eggs, for charitable purposes click on my dragon eggs!

Also, what kinds of dragons are these? Just curious, I can't find it immediately.

Well technically third one is a Nocturne.

And the first one - the electric - looks like this when it grows up.

Should I be worried that the shell of each of those eggs "seems soft, as though something was wrong with it"?

Yes, that means that they have become sick from having too many views in too short a time. They can die from it.

You can hide the eggs using the Actions menu.

A better option may be to simply remove them from your sig - they all look like they will probably hatch given time.

Sorry about your eggs. I did not like it when my eggy died either. Such was a sad sort.:smallfrown: I was heart broken. You need like 700-900 views for them to hatch.

Any one have a a skywing,Water
horse, gold, silver, or canopy I could have? I would appreciate such.

And they all died. All of them!:smallfrown:

I've got some new ones. Hopefully these ones won't die so blasted quickly.

Wait a couple of days before putting the eggs into your signature - that will pretty much stop any problems dead.

You know, the idea is you abandon it and I get it by having the direct link. Not now though, as I have to go.

@RP: A few days.

@RP: Wait 24-48 hours. You should never have eggs out for the first 12-24 hours, and the same goes for hatchlings.
