Well guys and girls or (Ladies and gentlemen, if you like it that way), t this is my first homebrew so please tell me what do you think.
(and please note I don´play true pen and paper DnD, but some odd homebrewed system, so please bear with me)
So here it goes:smallsmile:

Disease Infection DC Incubation Damage
Bog madnessI njury DC14 1d4 days 1d4 Inteligence

This disease is spread by viruses carried by tropical insects and predatory fish that are most commonly found in marshes, hence the name. Thee sympms include termors, fits of convulsions and anguished shrieking caused by painful muscle spasms.
If a creature falls bellow 3 Wisdom as a result of the infection by Bog madness, it reverts to pseudosentient animalistic behavior. (In mechanical terms it gains the Bog maddened acquired template) if it fails a DC14 Fortitude save. In the case of PCs such a character also becomes a NPC until it is treated.

Treating Bog madnees
Ether as normal via the heal skil or via, Heal Remove disease, Greater restoration, Miiracle, Wish or similar ability. Note that, when using the Heal skill, Heal or Remove Disease spells cure only the affiction in itself, and do not restore the patient´s memories or any other related disabilities. The restoratve magic, on the other hand, can do so.
Note that treating Bog maddness cause the healed creature to lose the Bog maddened template (and the Augmented subtype, restoring the original one), and any special abilities or traits that it causes or grants. To purge the Bog madness virus, from aitfectee´s corpuse, the corpse musst take 30 or more points of fire or acid damage.

Creating a Bog maddened
The Bog maddened is an acquired template that can be added to any living creature, hereafter reffered to as the base creature. The base creature gains it by having its Inteligence score fall below 3 as a result of the disease.

About Bog Maddned
The Madened wander absent- mindedly as stray animals, attepting to ease their suffering by attacking nearby noninfected creatures and sucking their blood for valuable nutrients , eating any food they can come across, and occasionally inedible matter too. They just wander obliviously with their group, often a group, band or settlement sized), until they get tired, or are slaughtered.
They retain only partial and foggy memories about their life when infected.
Bog maddened Traits
Size and type remain unchaged, but the creature´s subtype becomes Augmented.

Hit dice are unchanged Do not recalculate BAB, hit points, or saves.

Speed remains unchanged

Armor class ichanged accordibg to changes in Dextirity

Attack
A Bog maddened can use any of the modes of attack that the base creature had, v and retains any weapon, armor or shield proficiencies the base creature had, and fights viciously with any natural weapons available. In addition, it can make a blood drain attack similar to a vampire´s after making a successful Grapple check (see below).

Full attack
A bog madman usually uses his weapon, two slam attacks or an off-hand slam attack in combination with a light weapon in a full attack. He can also attempt to start a grapple to drain blood.

Special attacks
A Bog madman retains any special attacks which he meets the prerequisites for and gains new special attacks as described below.

Blood sucker(Ex)
A Bog maddened can suck blood from a living victim by a successful grapple check. If he pins the foe, he bites a hole in his neck and drains blood, dealing 1d4 points of Constitution drain each round the pin is maintained. Also, for every point of Constitution so drained, the maddened´s wrecking pains are suppressed for 20 minutes, allowing him to slip out of his madness a bit, and behave more or less as he would before being infected.

Infection (Ex)
Any creature vulnerable to disease, that is bitten by a Maddened, exposed to his tissues, bodily fluids or unsanitary items he has held and any other contaminated matter and has a flesh wound (at least 1 point of lethal damage) must make a DC14 Fortitude save or contract Bog madness.
Rage(Ex) A Bog maddened can fly into a rage as a barbarian of his HD. The abillity ´s proprieties and the number of Rage uses do not stack with Barbarian levels or any other sources of Rage. A Madnend can rage, if he is prvented from feeding, sees a fellow infectee die or becomes fatigued or frightened.and unable to flee

Special Qualities
Wrecking pains:The disease constantly causes the sufferer excruciating pain that affects him in the same way as a Symbol of Pain (-4 on attack rolls, ability checks and skill checks) The Madedned can make a DC15 Will save to negate the attack roll penalty for one minute)
Neurological damage: The Bog maddned can no longer heal damage to mental attributes (Int, Wis, Cha) naturally.
Abilities
+2 Strength, -2 Dexterity. The cramps caused by Bog madness hamper coordination, but cause adrenaline rushes, which are responsible for increased strength.

Treasure
50% coins, standard goods, standard items
Challenge Rating
+1
Alignment
Usually same as the base creature but with Chaotic on the Law/Chaos axis
Level Adjustment: None

A Bog maddened has a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against compulsions, phantasms and mind affecting effects
Spells that create a link between caster’s and subject’s mind or reveal thoughts such as Detect thoughts, Brain spider or Dominate person, force the caster to make a Will save of 10+ target’s Cha modifier or lose the connection and be stunned for 1 round.

Any creature with the Scent special ability gets a +2 bonus to the check to track a Bog maddened, due to the unique pheromones his body exudes.

Due to his constant shrieking and disconcerting behavior a Maddened gets a +2 bonus on Intimidate checks made to demoralize an opponent.
Variant rules
Under Unearthed Arcana Sanity variant rules, discovering that one suffers from the disease and every additional day of treatment costs the sick 1/1d4 points of Sanity, I addtion to the normal damage ( The numbers before and after the slash mean the number of Sanity points lost on successful, or failed check, respectively.) Conversely, being cured of Bog madness restores half the Sanity points lost due to it.

Plot/story hooks
The characters arrive in the town of Ursis. There they find that local mining operations have recently uncovered a fossil of something somewhat humanoid, which piques the interest of the local Archvists´ Druids, and Alchemists´ Natural Sciences Research Guild
Hoverer, after a couple days, the number of vagrants doubles and the characters find the bums become surprisingly aggressive and even predatorily voracious, What do the players do? Where do they start their investigation?

The PCs are tasked with protecting some exploratory or scientific expedition ( perhaps even a group of settlers). In to the wild, untamed jungle just outside of their kingdom border. But on the way they find deserted but otherwise intact villages, isolated bands of surprisingly hostile natives, and suddenly, the people they ought to protect start disappearing or succumb to some mysterious form of insanity. How do the characters prevent this? What do they do?
