I want to change my weapon to a reach weapon, because i have a disarm/trip/sunder specialist and reach would enhance him a lot. Do you guys know of any items? I also need a book + page # (my DM runs a tight-ish ship). Oh ya i really would not like to change my weapon only enhance it.

Have you considered Enlarge Person instead? That'll give you more reach. I ask because I don't know of any separate item that increases reach long-term... except maybe a Sizing spear or something.

Use custom item creation rules with Spell Compendium's Weapon Shift spell (p.273)

And I think there a "Shaping" quality somewhere that does this at the cost of a +1 enhancement? I could be making that up.

Have you asked your DM if you can do this somehow? Some combination of Greater Dispel and Fabricate could work in some games.

I think it was called SHadowShaping or something. In the Arms and Equipment guide. Worth a +1 enhancement.

Or, use the Psionic power Expansion and make a custom item. :smallwink:

There are a few ways to do this. The Morphing property (MIC p. 39, +1 bonus) allows you to change any weapon into another weapon of the same type and size. So with a standard action you could change a two-handed sword into a spiked chain or guisarme if need be.

The Changeling property (MIC p. only works with spears, but has some interesting advantages over a Morphing weapon. You can change a shortspear into a normal spear or longspear as a swift action, even in between attacks. It only costs +2000 GP, so it can be added to any magical spear without paying through the nose for another enhancement bonus. If you want to trip with a spear, you can add the Sweeping property for +2 on trips as a +1 enhancement bonus (although I'm not sure a +2 bonus would be worth it... there are probably better/cheaper ways to get +2 on trip attacks).

Another curious effect of the Changeling property... you can change the spear head to be any type of wood, stone, or metal. This sounds similar to the Metalline property, only even better. Not only could you switch it to adamantine, cold iron, or alchemical silver, but also other special materials such as starmetal, pandemonic silver, hizagkuur, baatorian green steel, etc.

Edit: Probably too much wishful thinking on my part, but after a careful reading of the Changeling text, "appears to be" isn't the same as actually turning into special materials.

If you just want to add reach, then there are several items that can help, although they all have limited uses per day. I think someone already mentioned the Shadowstrike property (MIC p. 43, +5000 GP), but that only works on one attack once per day. Greatreach Bracers (MIC p. 108, 2000 GP) are cheap but only work 3/day. Reach Guantlets (MIC p. 120, 500 GP) are even cheaper but require psionics to activate, and again, only work 3/day.

Phylactery of Change (A&EG p. 135, 11200 GP) could be very interesting. Polymorph into something large with reach, up to 7 HD. Cloaker (Large + Moan), Troll (Large + Regeneration), or Treant (Huge + uh...Photosynthesis?) work very nicely. You may need to add the Sizing property (MIC p. 43) to your weapon to deal with the size increases, but for only +5000 GP that's pretty cheap and easy to add to an existing weapon.

thanks Darrin for your response, i think i will use the morphing ability on my weapon, and i think i will use the great reach bracer's too. It is a lot of help especially the page numbers so i could look at them, once again thank you :) and i think i may have to get a spear cause that chagleing prop sounds worth changing my weapon.... i got some situations to make

There's also the Short Haft feat, which lets you do the opposite, switch a reach weapon to non-reach at the cost of a swift action. I believe it's in compelte adventurer, which might help.
There's also a Stance in the Tome of Battle that adds 5' to your reach, but it's fairly high level.

If you want it all the way, get the morphic, changeling and Skillfull weapon properties and put it on a spear.

Which makes it a +3 weapon that can change into any onehanded and twohanded weapon you could ever want (as long as it isn't light)

Skilled (on a +2 bonus) gives you automatic proficiency.

Alas, when it comes to changeling... when it comes to the size, it's all kosher, but it doesn't actually change into the different metals; it just aesthetics. It "seems" to be of the material, but it doesn't actually change composition

But it isn't +3. It's +1 and costs as much as a +4 weapon.

My mistake. :)
Expensive but... well... fun. :P

Is there a ruling on this? I did some googling on changeling weapons, and wasn't able to find anything... do you know what book it's from originally?

Ah, I see... the key words being "appear to be". So it doesn't actually take on the properties of that special material.

If you can, use Shorten Grip (Dragon Compendium) instead of Short Haft. You still take a -2 penalty, but Shorten Grip doesn't require any action to use, while Short Haft uses your swift action, and you only get one of those a round. You may need that swift action for something else.

In the description for Changeling, it actually says "although this does not change the composition." So there really isn't any fancy wordplay there at all.
