That was poorly phrased. I was the recipient of "and now you're heading to the boring rack". You're quite right, there is no non-boring rack in Men's Formalwear. A tie silkscreened with a trout print is still a tie, albeit one you can troutslap people with on a quiet Friday.

The song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4FtfZ1WuTA) itself isn't very celebratory, that's the problem, with a tune that plays on the ears like jelly or fun-house reflections, with lyrics of simplicity and anger. Still, if the person whom it's meant to celebrate has heard of it, that's gladdening. Let it play!

I couldn't log into the forums for a couple of days....sadness......now, before anyone chirps up with outages or anything logical, I am blaming my ccountry where I live. It's not that this place sucks, it's just filled to the brim with pathetic in many aspects, internet connections being the top of the list there....and before anyone defends my country, don't, we don't even have any real army or navy or airforce to defend ourselves. Why? because we don't need it, invaders think to come here, think to take over then realise how far away it is from anything so don't even bother.....that was all, you may return to your regular scheduled channels.

You know the Rules of Spousal Indifference as well as I do, Cristo Meyers: if party one doesn't care sufficiently to exercise the veto, party two may decide to do whatever he or she wants to influence the appearance of party one (although "and now you're heading back to the boring rack", in the middle of a clothing store, did catch me by surprise). In your case, though, I imagine the veto is undermined by formal wear being necessary for work.

Funnily enough, none of the formalwear that they all insisted I needed has actually turned out to be needed. I wear the same clothes that have passed for formal that I always have. Even the stupid suitcoat has been less than necessary as not a single job interview I wore that bloody thing to ever amounted to anything.

And I'm not indifferent, I hate formalwear with a passion. :smalltongue:

If I can help it, I'm not going to wear a tie throughout my professional career.

I don't mind dress shirts so much; normally wear them unbuttoned w/ the sleeves rolled up, just can't stand having them buttoned up all the way, I start overheating (which is strange, as my body temp. is actually lower than normal).

Haha, nah, it's not really a big thing. I'm not sure exactly where it all came from/why it happened, but the original scene was the season 2 finale for the OC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3umNk9nVxbQ), which was then parodied on SNL. (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/18964/) Now there are all kinds of Dear Sisters...a Lion King Dear Sister, a Charlie Bit My Finger Dear Sister, etc.

If it'd have been blocked, I'd have just offered to email it to you. (most common attachment limit I've seen is 10 MB, the setup is 8)

EDIT: Also, yes. Since it works by jumping around to thousands of different computers before going online, as well as putting you behind one or more proxies, your internet will slow to somewhere about dial-up speeds.

Hmm...I never had that problem. Let me boot it up (as I don't normally have occasion to use it) and test.

Fake-edit.

I had the same problem when I first enabled it, as well as it not loading pages. I fixed it by stopping ToR through the Vidalia Control Panel and Restarting it. I also hit the "create new Identity" a few times before it, but I don't know if that did anything.

Hm. I think this might be a problem:
When I open the network map whilst trying to connect to Tor, it shows four paths/connections, that, after a bit, 'fail'.
Then it tries four new ones, that also fail.
Etc. etc.

If the site's still available, try downloading an older (or newer, depending on what you grabbed) version and seeing if it works. It looks like they have a "stable" (0.2.0.34) and an "unstable" (0.2.1.15-rc) version.

Just read the Allan Moore's latest LXG comic ("Century 1910"), and I have to say:

what a cockamamie, cataclysmically p**s-poor, phoned-in piece of hackwork!

It seems the much-loved Sage of Brum and lionized King of Comics was so intent upon making clever-clever literary allusions, getting overheated about sex and Alistair Crowley, and scripting a mediocre Jack the Ripper song-and-dance number (WTF?!) that he forgot to include a plot. What a shambolic mess. And as for the weak-as-dishwater prose story that accompanied the comic: waste of ink! :smallmad:

I didn't know comics writers encountered a philosopause (exception: Grant Morrison, but he's just a total headbanger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Invisibles)).

Dear Allen

Less sub-Promethea tosh; more story worth the reading please. If needs be you can go and look at your old stuff until you remember how it's done.

Indeed. I was dead asleep, and ice cream was offered to me the other night. And even though I was exhausted and asleep and full from dinner, I still allowed myself to be spoon fed. Ah yes, roomie is eeeeeeevil. But no, this particular batch was lacking the beer-topping.

Ice cream and cheese... this deserves further experimentation. Hazelnut could be fitting with some cheeses.

Well, do you now that kind of cake that is basically a thin layer of pastry over vanilla ice cream, still hot and half-molten? My father made one of these with cheese in it. It's delicious.

Two more exams done!
I even went in early, as in I caught my college bus in even though the exams started at quarter past one!
I spent four straight hours (nine 'til one) revising. Mainly becuse I hadn't actually managed to do any proper revision at home - too many distractions. So I was a wee bit concerned over these two exams. Understandably.

Greek history and culture is first.
Greek tragedy.
The first section: one question on Oedipus, one on my hated play Antigone (she's such an incestuous necrophiliac with a martyr complex). So you'd think I'd advoid Antigone like it had the plague or something right? I did that question. It was easy, although I did srew up the timing so when it came to
The second section - the synoptic, I had to rush my ending.
But it was a great question(the one I chose)! Basically: how far does the audience's prior knowledge of the story enhance or spoil the play?

Roman history and culture came second. After 90 minutes of straight up frantic writing.
Aeneid
The first section: Dido question or . . . or, something that was apparently so horrendous I've already forgotten it. So I did the Dido one and I believe I did good. Whooped the timing on that one so when it came to
Scetion two (synoptic again) I was so happy. Why?
One of the best ever questions came up.
'The Aeneid is more about human relationships than promoting AUgustan values'. How far is this true?
Paraphrased, that is.
Five pages I did for that one.

Four hours later, my hand still aches, and the biro groove is nicely engraved. Well, at least my next exam isn't for one week.
Six left!

Synoptic stuff

I hate synoptic exams. The English Literature one I did last year was torture - not because of the subject but because of how much my hand began to hurt after a few hours of solid writing.

Luckily my synoptic in Philosophy this year is half the time of the English literature one - 90 minutes. Unluckily it's about the same workload. At least we get to prepare the essay before the exam so we just need to learn the essay (which is on "Two religions views on life, death and life after death" and "How does a person's beliefs effect the way in which they live") and adapt it to the specific question asked.

I'll finish that essay next week - I just need feedback from my teacher. I have three exams before that though, starting tomorrow. Too bad none of what I've been revising has stuck. I'm kind of hoping that everything I've gone over will just come back to me as I sit down and read the questions. Then again, if the questions don't go my way (especially for the ontological argument - it must come up! If it doesn't they've broken the law), the other two I'll leave up to the day - religious language and religion and science. The former has less work to learn but the latter is easier to answer. As I said, I'll just wait for the questions.

So today I went into school... and as I said, I actually went in wearing handcuffs... Apparently the principal took my "little threat" seriously, and the school cop came to my house... escorted me there in his car, and dropped me off at school, got a cup of coffee from the teachers lounge, brought me to the Principals office, and then this is basically what transpired.

Principal:
So, Joe, I see you showed up, 5 minutes late. That's not surprising. But forget that, what really bothers me is: [big long speech about how bad plagiarism is morally wrong, in which she had super flawed logic and a super wrong definition of plagiarism]. What's your side of this story?
My Turn!:
Well, Mrs. Principal, firstly, I would never knowingly cheat off anyone else, let alone someone I don't know on the internet. I'm 100% sure that I did not copy that poem, it was my original Idea. The closest thing that MIGHT have happened, is that I read said haiku on the internet years ago, and recalled the idea from memory, and subconsciously mistook it for my own idea, in which case, that is not plagiarism... If I wrote the Gettysburg address, word for word, but I never saw or heard anything about it before, it is legally not plagiarism. It's complete serendipity, and that's what this situation here is.

Principal:
That's a $#!T Ton of lies, Joe. *hands toothbrush* Start in the cafeteria.

Your Philosophy is definitely different. I had so much fun when my friends had to do their four hour (or was it eight?) long paper. It was basically their coursework, but under exam conditions and they only got one thousand words of notes and it had to be at least twenty five pages long.
Something ridiculous like that.
Yours just sounds like what I had to do at French GCSE. Sort of. Memorise or mostly learn an essay (class condition coursework) and write it out. Except your is one heck of a lot harder.

Good luck with it!

I did AQA English Literature. We had to do stuff about the WWII - it's not my favourite subject area. I think the exam was three hours. In the first question we had to compare four poems with each other referring to other things we've read. The second question was a general question where we had to refer to everything that we had read - I hadn't read much at all. The least out of anyone in the class. I still got about 80% just by using stuff from my Sassoon poem anthology, Regeneration by Pat Barker and everything we had done in class. It was a closed book exam too.

The RS is basically our coursework under exam conditions... Except we need to write very quickly and waste no time with unnecessary things.

Thanks for the luck - I'll probably need it over the next few weeks.

I've surprised myself with my light music revision I did earlier. I can still sing a C without referring to an external standard. I can kind of sing an octave. I'll have to learn how to do it in my head. Any tips?

Mrmud, I'm sort of hoping that your principal doesn't carry guns or knives.

That makes it 5+ people.

Mrmud, I'm sort of hoping that your principal doesn't carry guns or knives.

We need 7 people, that way she should run out of bullets with a pistol before we all die (here is my really bad knowledge of guns). Unless she has something bigger, in which case we never stood a chance

There's the cops gone. Okay, we need to disarm her as quick as possible (possibly by ripping of her arms ), then boot her in the face until she gives up.

Hmmm, katana-slap to the hand with enough force could get her to drop the gun. Then we go to town on that woman. :smallamused:

Is this the LlanfairPG place? Because I can get up to Llanfairpwyllgyn - then I just tail off. But it ends - gogogoch!
I also think I may have gotten the 'w' and the 'll' the wrong way around.

And by orders of Daddy Tooby I have begun watching Cowboy Bebop. It is good. Littlest Brother though, who loved the premise: bounty hunters IN SPACE! was put off by it being anime. Even though I'm watching a dub.
Strange lad. And he used to like dubbed anime so much.
Of course, he does like Les Mis partly in French, which is just plain weird.

Bah. It's still light out, an far too hot. Yet Crazy Faced Little Sister is in bed with four blankets, a duvet and her winter pyjamas on.

Even if I sneak her many, many thick layers away she just retrieves more. And there's no way she's 'cold'.

Names are confusing. A lot of these sites are saying different things!

I'll just go with the ones that make the most sense.
My first name is Greek and means 'man's defender', middle name is Roman and means 'dedicated to Mars'(as in the god), and my last name is English and means either 'lived near a pear tree' or 'wanderer'.

So I'm the defender of man who was dedicated to the Roman god of war and wanders around, usually living near pear trees.

Your last name is either; a Jewish nickname for someone with fair hair or a light complexion, a Dutch word that means "Strife Man", or the altered spelling of a German word known as Hellman, which means either "precipitous terrain" or "steep slope" or it is a German nickname for "Hellraiser".

My first name has a disputed meaning, so I'll just combine them all.

I am a young, noble lamb who lives on a hill and is the son of someone with will and protection.

My last name has Germanic roots but it's made Welsh due to sticking an "s" on the end. An "s" on the end or a "p" on the beginning means "son of" in Welsh. Examples are Penri, Puw, Jones, Evans, Williams, Pritchard and Parry. Due to the way Welsh has a letter "ph", when "son of" (ap) was stuck onto the beginning of the name of the father for a last name, they got rid of the H completely, for example "ap Huw" and "ap Harry" became "Puw" and "Parry". Interesting stuff.

At least you're first name and last name don't rhyme.
I know a guy (a jerk I might add) who has the name Ryan O'Brian. People called him Brian in the beginning. (Serves him right for being a Grade A Prat)
Then again, it could be worse, Gary Neville's dad is called Neville Neville isn't he?

I am a young, noble lamb who lives on a hill and is the son of someone with will and protection.

Aww, you're a little lamb. *pat pats*

Apparently, mine means “innocence” in Aramaic. :smalltongue:

That word has always reminded me of "Mahna Mahna."

On names: First two are Hebrew, surname is Swedish. That's what one gets for having parents who converted.

There's actually a couple of videos which play upon that as a sort of homage to Mahna Mahna based on some kind of show either called phenomena or... that had some character saying phenomena that became a meme amongst certain fans of said show....

hmm, my first name means something boring like, L33t Gift From God, yo... err, wait, sorry... I got a bit confused with all of the names having to do with gifts from gods, it actually just means the Abrahamic God is Gracious... or I'm one of about a million Johns and many, many more johns :smalltongue: and my last name means Son of the Frickin' Drow, man, the Frickin' Drow!

On the subject of rhyming names: Melvin Calvin, who discovered the Calvin-Benson-cycle in plants. Poor guy.

When my mum was a tiddler in Primary, this is back in the 1960s, there was a boy in her year called Richard Head.
Guess what nickname they weren't allowed to usse, and it was pretty much banned as a nickname for him too.
Too bad the headmaster forgot one day when they were leaving assembly (with parents attending) and he wanted to talk to Richard.
"OY! **** HEAD!!"
If you think about it there're plenty of embarrassing names around.

ION:
My sister's up Royal Cornwall Show today doing a performance. They said it would be cold up there, cold and cloudy, so mum sent her up in jeans.
As of one o'clock this afternoon it's still a pure blue sky, and getting hotter by the minute.

I think the last time I looked up my name it said it meant something along the lines of Brave Power! (http://www.behindthename.com/name/richard)

I have also read that it also can mean "Powerful Ruler," so I like both definitions.

Go my name! I'm one of the lucky people that have always loved their name.

Edit: @Curly: Guess what my nickname in high school was? :smallamused:

Cool. Although not cool, because it's warm... where was I going with this again? I'm sure I'll remember at some point.

On a slightly less jolly note: I feel like crud on a stick. My limbs hurt, my head hurts, my throat is killing me, my nose is heavily blocked and I just generally feel cruddy right now. Urgh, colds and coughs suck.

If I were capable of such displays, I'd probably be bouncing up and down with excitement right now. I may actually have my first freelance writing gig. The local Games Workshop store is asking me to write up some fluff pieces for their scenarios and the like.

So this is what positive emotions feel like...
