DM
This story starts at a camp site, the cult of the Erkekjetter has sent out a small group to serve as a raiding party to help "collect" more funds. The group consists of a half dragon, a gnoll, a goblin cleric of the dark one, a beguiler, a drow, and an elf. The Goblin was made leader of the group due to his wisdom, and a mind for tactics. They are all sitting by a camp fire off to the side of a small trading road, far enough out of a town that no-one will be able to notice if a trader is "late" for a shipment. Everyone but the Half-Dragon is asleep at the moment.

Player

Calack is slowly patrolling the outside of the camp. He does'nt seem to be paying much attention to the group behind him.

A shadow leers out of the tree canopy, a strange cackling voice echoes from the treetops "My my...you look very tasty..hmmm...would be too bland..the spiky bits would give me indigestion...Name's Blackfang. He says as he Levitates above the ground over to the half-dragon, doing so he shifts from his wolf form, suited for creeping, to his goblin form, and as the fur recedes, his hairy squat form is covered in a black cloak, covering his face and with tiny green eyes poking out. at his waste is a small pouch containing various bones and a dagger.

Oh don't be so alarmed, never seen a shapeshifter, let alone a Barghest, have you?

Well, I won't bore you with the details, but suffice to say, your lifeforce would be an excellent appetizer for the main course He beckons out to the resting group But I suppose I shouldnt eat you just yet, so, tell me what plans you have out here, as you can see He gestures to his floating form I have some "special" abilities at my disposal. If you wish, and if the task intrigues me, I could join you. If not, you can always be a tasty snack. Think it over, I'll be here at twilight tomorrow. saying so, he floats back to the trees and observes the going on of the camp

for sake of simplicity, I didnt roll the DC 14 test for levitation, in the future if you wish I will, but I find this more dramatic

As blackfang hovers into the trees Calack glares at him. Watching each movement that the strange wolf like creature makes. If you truly have some worth while skills other than levitation and illusion, why don't you come down here and help me with my watch over my group.
Calack then gestures the Barghest down to beside him

Draxonicar
2009-06-16, 08:26 AM
Illusion he sneers. How illusory does THIS feel! He jumps from the treetops and midair shifts to wolf form and pounces on top of the half-dragon NOW. He growls What do you think of THIS Illusion Saying so he reverts to his natural form, sitting on his hind legs, looking like a vaguely humanoid wolf with goblin features. and claws for forepaws

Fine... I'll take first watch. you can trust me, otherwise you would be lying in a puddle of blood With that, he gets up and walks over to a tree and scrambles up it, and freezes his gaze upon the camp and surrounding area

my avatar looks like natural form and I get +11 to spot/listen

tynger1234
2009-06-16, 02:06 PM
With the Barghest off of him Calack gets up off the ground sneering at the Barghest again for his display of abilities. Calack then cautiously walks back near the center of the camp and goes over to Grak'als bedroll giving him a light kick in the nose. Its your shift now. He then whispersTheres a wolf thing in the tree over there.slightly nodding towards blackfang. Calack then goes over to his bedroll.

PS, I think this would be a pretty cool idea of what what blackfang would look like

The barghest yells from the trees "I Can Hear You!!! +11 to listen checks! His cover blown, he drops down from the trees to greet the new arrival. Hello, It sems your friend has alerted my presence to you. Oh well, I'm not really hungry...say....whats your Hit Dice...HAHA, just kidding So, who's taking first watch? he asks, seemingly oblivious the oddness of a random creature walking into a camp and offering to take watch

if anyone attacks me, I'll roll to dimension door out of there

Grak'al opens his eyes, and starts to take in the scene. There is a stranger in the camp, whose presence the half-dragon appears to have tolerated. Grak'al has less patience for strangers. "What in the Hells brought you here, creature?" he grunts, picking up his halberd from under his bedroll, where it had lain under his neck. He holds it partially pointed at the newcomer in a defensive posture, his wolfish eyes glaring in the same direction. "My character build is none of your business, but your unexpected arrival is mine. Tell me why it isn't in my best interests to gut you for every experience point your beastly hide is worth!"

Because of this He calmly states, with a friendly smile he casts Charm Monster and hovers above the Gnoll, speaking in a hushed voice. That dragon over there called you a hairy, nose-licking buffoon, doesn't that make you ANGRY? It does to me, I think you should do something about it.

Sorry 'bout this, but hey, you threatened an outsider with lethal force, and I DON'T think a gnoll fighters charisma is very good, but I'm sure calack's is. I mean, a gnoll? you'd fail pretty much any charisma based check. anyway, don't threaten in the future, and I won't do this. I'm trying to join this shindig, yunno? Oh, and, as before, if the spell fails and he attacks, I'm outta here dimension door style, if it does fail but he, for some reason, isn't threatend enough to attack, i'll cast blink and travel over to the trees again

tynger1234
2009-06-16, 08:21 PM
Charisma based means that as a caster you use your Charisma modifier +10 as the DC. Grak'al only has a will +1 (goody for me) so he is almost gaurenteed to fail.Don't listen to his lies, when I insult someone I atleast have the decency to say it to their face. Calack then unsheives his swordand readys incase Grak'al advances on him. Now, we're both nothing if not Lawfully alligned so I give you this, If you attack me and kill me then you will be the only one here to protect the rest of our group. This means you will be the only one infront and in combat and you will need to pull all-nighter shifts to keep your allies alive. Calack then tells him this. Who do you trust more, me or him. and Calack points at the Barghest.

your not the only one who spent points in listen, and i'm about 10ft. away right now so whispering wont do much

K, my charisma is 14, and since you're obviously interested in fighting (who wouldnt?) contenders, FIGHT! (now if only there were a "conjure popcorn" spell..how did those roaches get it...)

This sort of thing doesn't happen in the good party!

My will save bonus is +1, I reckon I'd fail that save

Falling under the subtle influence of the Barghest's spell, Grak'al's military-drilled instincts of paranoia and hostility fall away. (Perhaps this creature isn't all bad after all,) he thinks to himself. (It's presence is very... calming, and that fur is just fabulous, I wonder if it uses something to give it that stylish look? Perhaps if I just do what it says, it'll let me in on the secret...) Being told of the offensive things his companion had said of him, Grak'al is angered, but does nothing more than leer at the half-dragon, for striking a comrade would go against his nature. Wondering how best to impress the delightful stranger, Grak'al decides to engage it in the one topic of conversation he knows; battle.

"So, friend. How many have you slain in combat? My halberd has tasted the blood of 241 foes in my lifetime, I count each one. Did you know I have 4 hit die? I also have the Spinning Halberd feat, that's from the Complete Warrior." At this, Grak'al raises his head proudly, reflecting on how he had carefully optimised his feat choices, and how the creature beside him might be in awe of his tactical prowess.

tynger1234
2009-06-16, 09:03 PM
Nice feat choice, I'm planning on getting eyes in the back of your head to get rid of those pesky flankers. Could be something for you to look at too. Calack quickly noticing that the attention was drawn off of him now trys to join in on the new conversation that Grak'al started with the Barghest.

Lenore woke from her slumber at a very peculiar sight. The half-dragon and gnoll is taking to a wolf? An ugly looking mutt.. more like a crossbreed of a wolf and mud. Pulling herself to a knee she conjured rousing energy to her other comrades [ie: rouse] to help wake them from their slumber.

Lenora steps over to Calack; everyone seemed to be in a stand-off. But, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, well, aside from the random encounter.

“Who invited Scrappy Doo?”

Impresssive, I have a natural 17 strength and 15 dexterity. I also have many spell like abilitys, among them....Charm monster, which, my friend, you are under. The barghest breaks the spell at that

Sorry, about that, but that mage over there He gestures to lenore She met with me while you were sleeping and put me up to it

Ka'randoor rises from his slumber I'm sure there is a good reason for this...

I havent technically chose spells yet, i was going to do that IC, som I'm just going to assume I have my full quota of 0-level cleric spells

He looks at the Barghest, who seems to be causing trouble and with a wave of his hand casts Light on its backback

Just so we always know where you are.

Now would you kindly tell me whats going on?!

Draxonicar
2009-06-17, 08:15 AM
Eh heheheh....Nothing much, really, I came down here and started chatting with Calack, then that gnoll over there got a little rowdy, so I charmed him so he would leave me alone, got a bit mischievous so I told him that calack insulted him, but hitting him is sadly against his nature, so I removed the charm and told him lenore put me up to it. Pretty normal behavior for an evil outsider, really At that, the barghest levitates and begins whistling to himself, amused at the others reactions

tynger1234

Lenore rolled her eyes. This mutt is a sad, sad little animal without the adorable eyes.

"You're a terrible lair, puppy."* She snickered. "Maybe someone should throw you some scraps."

OOC:

FYI: Blackfang's little back story about meeting Lenore earlier is false. He forgot to roll the Bluff check, it's safe to say that the DC is 0.

Unless, Draxonicar actually wants to insist that the two characters did meet. But I never agreed to that, and it would be bad form for him to take control of another character's action without their permission. Nature abhors god modding. :smallyuk:

She pulls out a copy of Savage Species and tosses it to Blackfang. "Why don't you look at the Barghast class.... but stay away from the Feral template."

After tossing the book to the mutt, she turned towards the pink cloaked goblin. "We're not far from a road that's a popular trading route between two villages. I thought the plan was to whack a caravan."

Shaking off the effects of the spell, and disoriented by the sudden transition to morning, Grak'al emits a low growl. Seeing that the party is unlikely to deliver to the Barghest the kind of Lawful Evil justice he is sorely tempted to dish out, he stalks off to find a good sized stone on which to sharpen his halberd. He leaves the remainder of the party to decide on their next course of action, too embarrassed by recent events to speak up.

By the way aren't we supposed to have a drow rogue somewhere ? I didn't see her from the "night".

The drow is the last to awaken. The morning glare hammers against her skull until she summons the resilience she learnt to survive above ground.

"Why do we have to travel in the day? We're the evil party, it'd be atmospheric to travel at night. Or do some of us not have darkvision? Surface whelps."

She pulls her sleeping bag over her eyes to try and shut out the hated sunlight for just a minute longer.

From the road that everyone is camped along you hear what soundss like a pair of horses pulling a cart, and a small group of people probably between 5-10 people. Grakal (because he rolled a 24) guesses that they are about 50ft. away.

Blackfang sees a small cart with a tarp over it, kinda like out of old western movies. The cart is being pulled by two horses and driven by what you think is a trader. around the cart are a group of seven people, six of them in splint armor and one in full plate. the ones wearing splint are carrying longspears while the one in plate is carrying a greatsword. When the cart passes by from your hiding spot you see a person wearing leather armor and holy robes to pelor sitting in the back of the cart.

none of them are even paying attention to you.

errm...4+10 is 14..not 15..unless you are counting another modifier aswell
Hahaha...this will be fun! Saying that he begins to lift off the ground, waiting for his turn to play.. gleefully awaiting the lifeforce the bodies will have for him to snack on
If blackfang is forced to choose a specific target (which at this rate I probably will, no way in hell I'll hit em all...) He will target the closest fighter and move to engage for the spell (crushing despair DC 16).. he will then, after it works or not, dart about distracting them (in his natural form, it seems more unnerving for something like that to fly through the air above you screeching) unless one pulls out a magic weapon, then he casts blink and will move away. Also, like a monk, as a ninja I get to add my wisdom modifier (+2) to my AC of 18 (plus DR of 5) if anyone starts casting a spell at me, I'll stop whatever I'm doing and blink out of there, no way I'm dying now....stupid no outsider ressurections... will make for interesting RP though, with me forced between risking my own hide to help them.... and please...PLEASE make an OOC so I can stop putting this stuff in my post

Levitate (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/levitate.htm)

Levitate allows you to move yourself, another creature, or an object up and down as you wish. A creature must be willing to be levitated, and an object must be unattended or possessed by a willing creature. You can mentally direct the recipient to move up or down as much as 20 feet each round; doing so is a move action. You cannot move the recipient horizontally, but the recipient could clamber along the face of a cliff, for example, or push against a ceiling to move laterally (generally at half its base land speed).

I'm not going to bother with the clerics grapple roll. He is brought to -6 and the fighter that wase at 0 hitpoints dies instantly.

This was only a CR 8 encounter so noone gets much xp
4500/8= 562.5= 563 for each person

In the caravan you will find an assortment of weapons and armor:

10 longspears
6 other polearms
25 longswords
10 greatswords
10 shortswords
15 medium wooden shield
10 heavy "" ""
10 suits of leather armor
5 suits of studded
1 breastplate

in money that is inside of a chest
1216 silver
428 gold
5 gems each worth 50gp

I know this seems like alot, but it was a caravan and did you see the size of the cart (it was 30ft. by 15ft.).
The last thing you find is a halfling hiding inside of a box, probably because of the fight that was going on.

Oh, good, well here is mine (not in a song): It all begins at my home village, surrounded by other members of my species dancing and singing and generally being exasperating. So I left to a small islet to try and bond with the seas in peace and quiet. There I met to malenti, tthough they would have killed me; I told them I loathed my home village and wished to become a wavekeeper. They then brought me on my first mission: Freeing the Kraken druid imprisoned beneath a guild of paladins. They caught me, however and placed me in an antimagic cell. There I was rescued by a conjurer who hated the paladins and he teleported me back, the wound he recieved killed him after we arrived though. And I had managed to complete the first part of the ritual to awaken the Kraken. Now it only requires more power to free him, so my malenti masters sent me to join you, the straight line syndicate, in order to gain the necessary power and some powerful allies. Explains the wavecrest gnome almost as if he expects anyone to care.

the rider laughs "Sounds interesting, maybe, But it would most likely be from time to time, I have other business than looting to tend to. Right now though, I'm free for a while. And why is everyone blurting out there life story all of the sudden?"

They seem to have decided that exposition is required right now in this random encounter

He says with derision in his voice

Draxonicar emerges from the shadows and walks towards the stranger.

Well then..........Now that the formalities are out of the way....what do we do with him?............He doesn't look too tasty...and I bet he'd scream too much anyway.......hmmm.............and we're already saving the halfling for stew, anyway........ugh..being a lifeforce eating monster is so hard......... with that remark, he turns into his true form, clothes disappearing to reveal fur and fangs
Bah....do what you will with him, I'll be eating

Saying so, he walks over to the bodies and resumes his feast

He says.

"you can call me Giles if you like." the rider laughs and stows his spear away.

Draxonicar looks up from his meal

"Okay then, note to self :remember to leave the furry thin- I mean barghest alone." the rider laughs before continuing," so, goblin, would you like to talk business? and what is your name? I can't go on calling you 'goblin' forever."

"I believe you were implying that you wanted help on a raid." the rider stops grinning and pulls down his hood revealing a nondescript human with Black hair and green eyes."Or were you bluffing to get my guard down?"

Pinkcloak smiled, always good to see the faces

I was enquiring if you wanted to join our merry band, the people we work for always need new hands, a raid is likely going to happen in the future.

He paused

If i wanted to Bluff you I would have made a Bluff check

diplomacy check: [roll0]

"I always forget to look if their making the check. I wonder, if we see them make the bluff check why do we still fall for the bluff? but anyhow sure I could use something to do for a while." the rider laughs and asks "So... where are we going?"
