View Full Version : Someone stop me. A new campaign idea.

This isn't like the Anitopia idea I made before, but more of a new kit I made to create a whole new breed of campaigns with a whole new breed of adventurers. Remember though that it is still being tested, but so far it looks good.

And here is the kit...

AUGMENTED ANIMALS...

That's right. Right now, I'm DMing a pause game (with currently only one player), and there the player is an awakened animal augmented with a few extra abilities. And it is actually a lot of fun apparently. To note, the animals I am using can't be stronger than a wolf. That is, CR 1 with no more than 2 HD.

In addition I allowed him to augment his animal further by adding on three changes from a normal animal.

The changes I presented to him was...

Increased Size.
Decreased Size.
Increased Saves.
Swallow Whole (Up to one size smaller than you).
See Invisibility.
Detect (insert force here).
Comprehend Languages (but not speak them).
Tongues (but not read them).

Finally I let him tack on a class with the exception of Paladin and Cleric and he was ready to go.

He made a Large Wolf with swallow whole and increased saves, and so far it has been a lot of fun, even though he has insane strenght, and even though he ate the BBEG, but it is still a lot of fun.

Anyway, does any of you have any suggestions or advice to give to me? Ideas and input is greatly appreciated.

See if you can find the old TMNT RPG (or it's more recent "After the Bomb" incarnation). That has a wonderful system for creating augmented human-like animals. Given that it used the Palladium system it should be quite easy to retrofit it to D&D.

Happy memories of my old flying squirrel electronics specialist ;D

What are you doing about equipment? How would a wolf wear a backpack? How would a wolf put one on?

What would a wolf put in a backpack, anyway? Raw meat?

I have to wonder, does your campaign allow Vow of Poverty?

Maybe... it's still being tested, so we'll see what happens. Giving the characters new augmentations instead of equipment is a viable choice.

Sounds like a blast. Who cares if it's balanced?

You plan to run something like this on the boards? I'd sign up for it.

Actually... I'm going to go create it right now I think, but hurry up. I'll only accept four players.

Sounds like fun - id probably use a Ferret sorc - no 1 suspects the ferret to nuke them :D

Or a wizard owl would be fun - and moderatly inkeeping with the owly steriotype :D

Trout Barbarian FTW baby!

Also I'm new to thw whole play-by post games si could you give some basic rundowns on how it's gonna work? I would like to get in on this if the play style agrees with me.

Sweet idea by the way. My Trout would have swallow whole and increased size.
