View Full Version : Coolest Team To Save the World

The Vorpal Tribble

Ok, has this been done before? Maybe? Dunno, but here it is. If you could pick up to six beings to form a group to save the world, who would it be?

#1. Doc Savage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_savage)

Samus Aran, DESTROYER OF WORLDS?

chiasaur11

The Doctor. Six of him.

Needs companions.

I'm thinking the Dalek from Dalek, Death's Head, that one shapeshifting penguin, Sarah Jane Smith, Captain Jack, and K-9.

Now, lessee, world saving, I'd divide by role:

Intel, mission organizing, AI support, and general sitting in a comfy room sipping tea far away from the action: Marathon's own Durandal, smug intellectual AI who actually possesses some degree of affection for meatbags. Also: probably the most badass bunch of bits and bytes to grace a monitor, at least in head to head showdowns.

Heavy weapons and demolitions: The Doom guy. He blew up hell. Gotta be worth something.

Infiltration and scouting: Transformers Animated Prowl. He's a telekinetic robot ninja. With a hologram projector.

Field medic: Dr. McNinja. Sure, two ninjas are a tad redundant, but both parties have shown skill at still being badass with other ninjas present. And the kind of medical skills needed to cure death are something we'd want in our merry band.

Secondary scientific consultation and field leadership: Reed Richards. Man can figure out time travel before it happens and exploit it perfectly. Add that to genius inventing abilities and solid tactical capabilities, and finish up with incredible injury resistance and solid combat capabilities, and we got a field leader.

Psychological counseling:Marvin the Paranoid Android.

Because the aforementioned Durandal has a very cruel sense of humor.

Hum.... Ok, I'll give this a go

-Tom Jackman/Mister Hyde from Jeckyll
-Captain Jack Harkness (you DON'T want to know where he was hiding that gun)
-Gothrek Gurnisson, the omnislayer (just made that up) from the "Slayer" novels
-Shadow (from American Gods)
-Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden (Dreden Files)
- Finally, the leader, Jack O'neill from Stargate, smarter then he lets on, well trained, and a master of witty dialogue

And I imagine their adventures chronicled in first person by Harry Dresden. Actually, Gothrek doesn't fit at all here.. let's see, maybe replace him with Silk from the Belgariad, anyway between them Hyde and Harry can pretty much lay waste to everything reasonable.

Edit: Screw that, replace Gothrek by Doctor McNinja.

I once started a multiversal fanfic with this team, sad but true:

1. Ibn al Xu'ffasch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_al_Xu'ffasch) (Kingdom Come)
2. James Logan aka Wolverine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_versions_of_Wolverine#Days_of_Future_Pas t) (Days of Future Past)
3. Spock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spock) (Star Trek)
4. The Elric Brothers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist) (Fullmetal Alchemist)
5. Kujo Jotaro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jotaro_Kujo) (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)
6. Glorfindel the Elf-Lord (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glorfindel) (Lord of the Rings/The Silmarillion)
7. Gimli, son of Gloin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_son_of_Gloin) (Lord of the Rings)
8. Gendou Ikari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gendou_Ikari) (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

I swear this team actually made sense in the context of the story (well, a kind of sense), and there was a coherent (well, internally coherant) plot involving them all. It'd take about a page to explain though. >_>

Let's see. Since we don't know what we're saving the world from, need folks with experience against all kinds of threats. So...

Reed Richards
Against all extraterrestrial and/or gigantic threats. Plus, he's like the smartest dude EVER. I credit it to his super-flexible neurons.
http://www.spider-man.info/Heroes/MisterFantastic/MrFantasticAd.gif
http://www.comics101.com/comics101//images/view.php?src=../news/Comics%20101/45/galactusfreaks.jpg&w=

Buffy Summers
Against all foes magical, mystical, demonic, vampiric, creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky or altogether ooky.
http://climateprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/buffy-stake-inside.jpg

Noah Bennett
Against superheroes. Additionally, every team needs one guy who Gets. Things. Done.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/heroes/season2/images/charbiog/bennet.jpg

Stan Marsh
Against all threats that are utterly ridiculous.
http://www.southpark.netuje.cz/images/200px-StanMarsh.png
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ChainofFlowers/sp6.jpg

John Connor
Because every now and then you screw up, and the world ends. And John Connor is the patron saint of Post-Apocalypses. I don't care how it happens. Robots, aliens, zombies, nukes... This is the guy you want around the day after to clean up.
http://www.nerdsociety.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/connor2.jpg

Sean Connery
As himself.
http://sportsmansdaily.com/thescrum/wp-content/sconnery.jpg

Phew. That was more work than it should have been. I hope someone enjoyed it.

PS. Oh, and they all have to be on a leaky boat. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn3AqZY4Lkc)

Lucy Pevensie [The Chronicles of Narnia]
Hermione Granger [Harry Potter]

Dr. Horrible

Easily, the best team would have to consist of the
three smartest men in the entire world of fiction.

-Sherlock Holmes for his deductive and logical skills,
and of course knowledge of many fields of science.

-The Doctor. He knows hundreds of thousands of languages,
and the culture and physiology of most aliens. (including humans)

-Yagami Light. He can practically predict the future
AND he is only maybe the antagonist.

Assuming that all three can work together for one common goal,

Saving the world from what, exactly? Is that part of the challenge? Do I need to prepare for any and all possibilities? What about beings from completely different settings that just aren't compatible? Screw it.

Batman has to be on any team. This is a man who fights on a team that takes on extraplanar gods on a regular basis, a team including Superman, Martian Manhunter, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman, and they consider him the most dangerous one.

Samus Aran covers the badass space warrior. She blows up planets on a regular basis and controls technology created by the most technologically advanced race the galaxy has ever seen.

Mario is usually not considered a heavyweight in fiction, but just look at his record. He started off as a plumber taking on black magic wielding turtles, and has moved on to a galactic level threat who dropkicks suns. His strength is legendary, capable of demolishing buildings with a few blows. He is intelligent, capable of engineering a medication that can curing any known disease. To him, death is but a hindrance, as not even Hell itself could hold him. He has stared down the end of the multiverse without flinching. The ancient creators of the universe look to him when they need help. Indeed, anything anyone could throw at the team, he could probably handle himself.

Link (yes, I have a thing for Nintendo games) takes care of any sword and sorcery type problem. He is the paragon of a member of the creating triumvirate, specifically the one who created life. This goddess also personifies the will of the gods. Link is the power of plot, he can't lose.

I'll see if I can come up with more later.

True, Granny probably could do most things by herself, but she needs Nanny Ogg with her; they are a team; a pair. Together they are greater than the sum of their parts...plus without Nanny about Granny Weatherwax may turn...well...you know...dark... and end the world anyway!

Paul Muad'dib (Dune)
Hari Seldon (Foundation)
God-Emperor of Mankind (Warhammer 40k)

Gordon Freeman (Half-Life. The one Free Man!)
And because every team needs one woman, lets make it:

Except massive inadequacy problems about Dr. Richards.

Most of them don't have that problem. Vic... does.

Well, yeah - each one of them has some particular opponent they'll struggle against, but the other five can just pick up the slack. Doom might have issues if they have to fight Reed, but surfing a DraculaBot from the Moon > a smart dude who can stretch himself. McNinja will walk all over Richards, particularly with Gordon's gravity gun and Strange's magical powers to keep him controlled. And in contrast, every single member of the team would have been far better vs. the Giant Mesoamerican Tennis Bot than McNinja, whether it be via gravitic manipulation of the tennis ball, telekinesis of the same, or blasting the bot into little tiny pieces with a Doom Ray...

Reed also beats Freeman and Horrible at science, but I think The Doctor himself probably beats out Reed. Besides, it's hard finding suitable characters to make up the Ultimate Team of Doctors to Save The World...I could have dropped Doom and taken Richards, but he's DOOM!, and thus much cooler than "Mr. Fantastic"...

and Doom could give Horrible self-esteem coaching lessons.

Well, the Doctor and Reed are apparently pals, which makes sense. Reed's met a guy who knows the Doctor, and his contacts include versions of himself from tons of dimensions. The Doctor even gave him a tardisy phone booth. I'll totally give you the Dr. Doom is an awesome name bit. Of course, given that Vic is a college dropout, it's probably an honorary degree from some Latverian college. Named after Doom.

I suppose the other members would basically be Minmay's chorus.
Minmay and The Saviours would be the band's name.
First, they'd foresee the future with their gifted prescience, find out where the next apocalyptic alien horror is going to arise and take the TARDIS to that location.

Then they would proceed to sing the eldritch god back to where it came from, while the good doctor Freeman whacked away at it with a crowbar.
I'd watch a musical like that any day.

Alright, lemme try a coolest team to save the world...

Mission Control: AM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g2oPp4EhRk&feature=related) (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream) An AI of pure sadistic fury who despite possessing godlike intellect is only able to use it to destroy and torture. Presuming that he doesn't try to turn the team into jelly things or put them through torturous pain he could use be good to have on your side. Has knowledge of life-prolonging techniques borne from Nazi experimentation and can de-evolve humans into ape-like savages For The Evulz.

Brawn: Captain Hammer (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) Fresh from rejection from the Justice League for trying to pinch Wonder Woman's ass and calling Batman a nerd, he's decided to join the only other team that's willing to accept him. Armed with the ability to punch things really hard and the awesome might of The Hammer (not his fists btw) he'll be feared by villains and civilians alike.

Brains: Rusty Venture (The Venture Brothers) A purely amoral scientist who has a tendency to cut corners. However his mercenary ways can encourage him to make rather effective devices, though some might require some... Sacrifices (orphan organs, perhaps) in the name of progress. Also if he really needs to he might just call upon Brock to replace Hammer if the latter should be out of commission.

Political Backing: King Steve (8-Bit Theater) The maniacal monarch of Corneria, Steve is a bloodthirsty manchild who happily kills babies as shoes. Still, he's a king, albeit one of a craphole that he's slowly but surely turning into his own personal Boatmurdered.

Mystical: Lina Inverse (Slayers) To finish off this team, why not someone without the concept of collateral damage?

I said coolest, not effective. By cool, I mean like using a magnifying glass and watching an Anthill type of awesome/Boatmurdered type of awesome.

Good idea. Just enough juice to do the job, and Lina should wipe out the rest of the group at the end, doing the world a service.

I'd replace AM with SHODAN or Durandal, though. AM is a spoiled sadistic kid with nukes and some other ill defined abilities. Shodan may be similarly evil, but she's also much better at planning. And Durandal, while he's steps so far down the evil meter he's just morally ambiguous, and even has shown something almost sorta kinda like regret from a certain angle, is probably the best thinker in the whole of mad AIdom. He also knows what makes people tick well enough to exploit it, rather than reveling in it till it ruins all his toys. Heck, he pulls a feint that simultaniously kills his enemies, fools an ancient AI into backing his plans, and gets him some very good tools to finish the fight. He does this as he's being hammered by the whole enemy fleet and loosing his only ship. If that ain't beautiful mastery of the manipulative arts, nothing is.

Also, Berserk monk?

HAL or AUTO might be good. Nothing says boring like a monotone.

Had a similar situation on another forum I frequent. We were only allowed 5. So i'll post the same five with an additional character to round it all out.

Molly Hayes aka Princess Powerful from Runaways. All the ferocity, strength and invulnerability of the Hulk in a compact easy to carry package that just so happens to take the shape of a hyperactive 12 year old girl.

Brock Samson of The Venture Bros. which seems to be a favourite here.

Deadpool... if you don't know who Wade Wilson is, leave. NOW.

Ashley "Ash" J. Williams. Hail to the king, baby.

Swamp Thing from the comic book series called, obviously, Swamp Thing.

Last, but not least, Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China. Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

Got to be a tough school.

And I still hold to my assertion that, if you want a mad AI for world saving, the terror of Tau Ceti IV, the Savior of the S'pht, The Deimos Destroyer, DURANDAL is the best bet. Enough A-hole to be fun, and the skill to back up his utterly enormous ego but just enough affection for humanity to be on the side of the angels in the end.

Best team:
Leader: Fox McCloud (Star Fox)
http://ui14.gamespot.com/1005/foxbrawl_2.jpg
While Fox may not be the most powerful hero of all time, he is determined, smart, and the only leader character that could probably keep the rest of the team in check. Still, out of all my choices, he is probably my least favorite.
Brains: Lelouch Vi Britannia (Code Geass)
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/5091/3kv9qh0.jpg
Name one person smarter than him in or out of the real world... that's what I thought. That, and he has a Geass which allows him to mind rape his enemies.
Muscle: Hector (Fire Emblem)
http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/348/210902-hector_large.jpg
Hector is my all time favorite character, and gets special bonus points from originating from Fire Emblem. For those of you who don't know him, this is the guy who regularly takes out dragons in two hits.
God Killer: Phoenix (X-Men)
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/NosDos/Phoenix_28by_Al_Rio_26_Anthony_Agui.jpg
The most overpowered character of all time, and I love her for it.
Villain turned good guy: Xykon (OotS)
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1/tensen01/xyklon1.jpg
Honestly, if you could have one villain on the team, who would you pick? It really wasn't much of a competition.
Healer: Dr. Faust (Shaman King)
http://animexarchiculture.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/faust-viii-shaman-king.jpg
Currently in Shaman King, Faust can bring back the dead with no permanent consequences, as well as being the most amazingly creepy mad scientist/doctor ever to come out of manga, and that is saying something.

Ah ha! Good list but Ash...he'd accidentally end the world! Just as they were about to save it he'd do something wrong and kill us all! (And then probably find a way to save us) (or not)

I know some people have already mentioned him, but in this Doom/Richards debate concerning brain power, no one has brought up Grand Admiral Thrawn! A GENIUS! I never said anything about being effective. I was trying to make the most disastrous group ever to rely upon.

1. AM is... AM
2. Rusty is one of those people who is doomed for failure no matter what he does, a certain degree of which he actually deserves (Even Brock considers him a villain in all but name)
3. Captain Hammer amongst people who won't faun over him is pretty much a way less charming and likeable version of The Tick.
4. Steve is a ruler that makes Caligula look like a combination of Vetinari and Lord British. He'd likely have his soldiers try and butcher all the civilians first before trying to make whatever monster they're fighting his personal pet named Steve Sr. (he'd be Steve the -6452th Discoball)

You're going for morally ambiguous magnificent bastards, right?

Well, I think I got a couple of guys.

David Xanatos might work, I've heard, so that's one.

And, to finish off, the guy I've been recommending for various bits most of this thread, Durandal. An AI that made himself mad, finished being mad, and proceeded to make himself the most powerful being in the universe. On one hand, he sent out a signal to invite some very nasty alien slavers to take over a human colony just so no-one would be looking when he broke out of his assigned tasks and went mad. On the other, he soon freed one of their slave races (admittedly to use them to move towards godhood) and aided the good guys in their goal of stopping the Phor. And he clobbered (via some rather clever gambits) anyone, human, alien, or AI, dumb enough to stand in his way.

1. Hari Seldon

6. Yahtzee.

This is the "We know everything or are all powerful" team. Hari, Bats, and Szass Tam are all classic Xanatos Roulette type of folks. Q and Dr. Manhattan are the muscle, being able to do anything is pretty helpful some days. Leader - Treize Khushrenada from Gundam Wing. A warrior, a gentleman, and charismatic as all get-out. Plus, bathes in rose petals.

Brains - Arnaud G. Vasquez from Wild ARMs 4. Confident in everything from the neck up with very good reason, and has the charisma to be a good lieutenant.

Muscle - Lukien the Bronze Knight from the Eyes of God. A true veteran who shrugs off wounds semi-realistically, and knows war better than anything else. Also looked up to by many.

Advanced Scouting - Admiral Ackbar. He always spots a trap. Also a leader of sorts.

Buckling of Swash - Captain Jack Sparrow. Provides the comedy relief and drunkeness, is good at improvising, and still manages to get people to follow him.

Science! - Bian Zoldark from Super Robot Wars. Studies aliens, their technology, and giant robots, while having the knowledge to run a highly effective military campaign and pilot his ultimate creation.

I give them three weeks before they've amassed legions of well-trained mech and fighter pilots, with badass infantry and humorously quirky scouting/espionage teams. Also, the clashes between Jack and half the team (for varying reasons, even!) would be priceless.

Primarily because I didn't think of either while writing the list. And because I'm only allowed to have 6 people.

I could kick out Shakespeare, I guess, but the other 5 are pretty solid choices. We've got possibly the greatest commander of all time, a woman who was known to all but shrug off fairly nasty wounds, an excellent bomber pilot, a brilliant PI, and a man considered such a good boxer that he could beat Superman in a fight. Angel - Tough guy, access to the supernatural, fills the handsome brooding loner role. Possible big brother to team members.

Molly Hayes - She's just too awesome not to be in this team.

Five man band, suited up and good to go!

Good lord, these teams would get their asses kicked by the obvious super team that I have right here.

I am going to do something that, in all honesty should end exsistance as we know it due to too much awesome being in one place.

but here we go.

Team Leader:
Leonidas (300)

Lieutenant (Also team psychic):
The Emporer (WH40K: During the Horus Heresy)

Pure Brawn:
The Juggernaught

Super Spy team(aka forward scout team):
James Bond
Brock Sampson
Col. Hunter Gathers

Super (Need to kick the crap out of a large amount of goons)Team:
Chuck Norris (from Delta Force)
B.A. Barackus (Mr. T.)

(Yes, I know, putting Mr. T. and Chuck Norris in the same sub unit would end the world as we know it but damn it this is about the coolest team and you can't get more awesome than Mr. T and Chuck Norris, fighting side by side.)

The Brains: Professor Charles Xavier

The Girl: Molotov Cocktease.

There, try and stop this group. I don't think so...

Going to try for an all-Brit, mostly unmentioned team

Leader, tactician, arcane support: John Constantine (the comic book version, not the movie crap)
Factotum/immortal: Hob Gadling (from Sandman).
Tech: Q (of James Bond, not Star Trek fame)
Godlike power: Adam Young (from Good Omens)
Hitting stuff/being a "nice guy" team face: Capt. Britain! (So naff, he almost comes around to cool again. Not quite, but y'know.)
Shooting stuff: Oh crap. Already used someone from Bond, so I'm pretty much stuck with Lara Croft here.

Dr Who would have made the team, probably as leader, but for the fact that he's been highly over-used already in this thread. Probably this would end with all the team except for Constantine, Adam, and Hob being dead, but Adam would just bring them back again if he felt like it.

Grand Admiral Thrawn
David Xanatos
Sherlock Holmes
Adrian Veidt
Danny Ocean
Batman

Whatever your plan for armageddon, this team will have already figured it out, stopped it, tricked you into betraying your own hideout and everyone on your side, had you lock yourself in jail and had time for a cup of tea before you even think to get started.

Team Leader: Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the shell)
A good all round character, able to manage a team.

Big guy: Doom Marine (As portrayed in the comic)
For when you just need something to stop moving, there's no better choice.

Stylish guy: John Preston (Equilibrium)
For when lots of quick and accurate shots are needed.

Really obscure guy: Nick Vrenna (Abuse)
Quick, with plenty of heavy weaponry, and often uses flight, super speed or invisiblity, he provides an extra edge in any gunfight.

Sneaky guy: Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
Because sometimes, the best option is someone who is very good at not being seen.

Cute team mascot: Madotsuki (Yume Nikki)
Because a seemingly harmless little girl who likes to play with knives is a handy addition to any team. (Although she might not actually be little, since her age is ambiguous)

Okay, the last one is a weird choice, I admit.

You're Just jealous that my team is way better than your team.
:smallwink:

The God Emperor of Mankind will happily be the lieutenant to someone who has better leadership capabilities than himself. If the world was truly in danger, the Emperor knows that being second in command to a more capable and bat-sh-- crazy than himself. Hence why he is the lieutenant.

Let's see you try and make the Juggernaut listen to any of them.

Xavier's gonna need to be on the team just to keep him from trying to smash them all.

I'll give you that Ciaphas might make a good Lt. to Leonidas, but the rest of the team was just you going through all the 'cool' characters and slapping them together.

...dropping Chuck, Juggernaut, and Xavier might reduce your 'kick ass' quotient, but it'd make the team feel a lot more coherent, and you wouldn't have X getting pissed off at Leonidas for being so violent.

Team Leader: Nick Fury (Ultimate Universe) - he's rough, he's tough, he's brilliant, he's ruthless, and the ultimate field commander.

Battered Veteran: John Gaunt (Grimjack) - he's been there, done that, and then some. Killed everything from alien thugs to undead demons and still manages to pull off a beret and own a bar.

Arcane Firepower: Harry Dresden (Dresden Files) - for every reason you'd imagine.

Super-Hot Powerhouse: Power Girl (DC Universe) - because a girl with Kryptonian-level power who looks amazing in a one-piece is a terrible thing to waste.

Science Babe: The Engineer (The Authority) - having nine pints of liquid machinery instead of blood doesn't hurt her sex appeal. Neither does her ability to morph her body into any conceivable appliance.

last, but not least

Anti-hero Nexus Wildcard: Iori Yagami (King of Fighters) - because nothing says "scram" like two handfuls of blue fire getting shot into your face followed up by a no-nonsense boot to the sternum.

The God Emperor won't care about one world. He already rules untold billions. He loses a few thousand each day due to clerical errors and doesn't bat an eyelid.

Prof X and Juggernaught will be fighting each other, James Bond would refuse to take orders from a filthy unhygienic Spartan who can't even speak the Queen's English. Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris, but BA Barackus has worse aim than a GI Joe. A Stormtrooper'd make a better shot.

I thought we were using six?
Oh, and the team works perfectly by default, because there isn't any fun in it otherwise.

Best team:
Leader: Fox McCloud (Star Fox)
http://ui14.gamespot.com/1005/foxbrawl_2.jpg
While Fox may not be the most powerful hero of all time, he is determined, smart, and the only leader character that could probably keep the rest of the team in check. Still, out of all my choices, he is probably my least favorite.
Brains: Lelouch Vi Britannia (Code Geass)

Muscle: Hector (Fire Emblem)
http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/348/210902-hector_large.jpg
Hector is my all time favorite character, and gets special bonus points from originating from Fire Emblem. For those of you who don't know him, this is the guy who regularly takes out dragons in two hits.
God Killer: Phoenix (X-Men)
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/NosDos/Phoenix_28by_Al_Rio_26_Anthony_Agui.jpg
The most overpowered character of all time, and I love her for it.
Villain turned good guy: Xykon (OotS)
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1/tensen01/xyklon1.jpg
Honestly, if you could have one villain on the team, who would you pick? It really wasn't much of a competition.
Healer: Dr. Faust (Shaman King)
http://animexarchiculture.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/faust-viii-shaman-king.jpg
Currently in Shaman King, Faust can bring back the dead with no permanent consequences, as well as being the most amazingly creepy mad scientist/doctor ever to come out of manga, and that is saying something.

I have a Destroy The World contribution. Most of my selections are pretty well known, but in case you don't know one I will explain my choices anyway.

Ravel Puzzlewell (Planescape: Torment)
An ancient and powerful Night Hag. Legendary for her impossible riddles and her attempts to end the Lady Of Pain's rule over Sigil. She failed, but the Lady is roughly as powerful as a greater deity. It's impressive that she was even a threat at all.

Ghatanothoa (Cthulhu Mythos)
One of the more obscure Great Old Ones, Ghatanothoa is a huge monster whose visage is so horrible that looking at it will petrify you. Except your brain, which will live forever and eventually go mad.

Nicol Bolas (Magic: The Gathering)
A dragon and planeswalker. Between his magic and his intelligence, he might as well be a deity. Last seen doing something ridiculous with an entire plane of existence.

Apocalypse (X-Men comics)
Also superpowerful and superintelligent, Apocalypse is known for fighting off all of the Avengers along with Cable. Dominates the world in some alternate realities.

Orcus (D&D)
Demon prince of undeath. He can raise everyone else's victims as an army; since they're undead they would be free to look at Ghatanothoa. Also, he's a beast in close combat.

King Ghidorah (Rebirth Of Mothra)
Godzilla's archenemy. An enormous dragon with three heads. Nearly immortal. Destroyed the planet Venus for fun.

Lt./Moral Gray- Noah Bennett aka HRG
Occult/Magical Hook up- Warden Harry Dresden
Heavy Hitter/Big Gun- Hellboy

Everyone on the list is capable in his/its own right, has demonstrated an ability to work on a team, and is connected to other capable individuals. It seems that these "super teams" would quickly fall apart if the last two criterea are not met, but tell me what you think.....

Well now, let's see...

Jubilation Lee (X-Men, New Warriors) (Repowered and with her New Warriors tech, close combat to mid range fire support)

Nanoha Takamichi (At least post-Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS) (long range fire-support)

Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto) (Close range fire-support)

Rikku (Post FFX-2) (Multi-role but primarily healing.) (There are not, it has to be said, many clerics or equivilent that are that cool. Yuna would also do, but she's just a fraction less awesome than Rikku.)

Asoka Tano (Clone Wars) (Close-range melee combat plus TK)

Imoen (Baldur's Gate 2) (Support and offensive spellcasting).

(Wolverine, one feels, is probably contratually oblidged to be part of the roster as it contains at least one person for any Marvel Universe, if not necessarily an active member...)

That gives us a fairly balanced team; you've got four rogue type skill-sets, three primary casters (plus whatever you want to qualify a Chakra and Force user as), three close combat specialists who'd serve nicely as tanks, plenty of long-range fire, four modest techs (depending on how much technical knowedge the girls have had just from working with high tech) and a wide knowledge and experience base. Plus, as they're all pretty much easy-going and team-players; they'd all get along very well, I think. (Plus, the added advantage of combining Naruto and Nanoha is that basically every enemy would ended up beaten-up and converted.)

Yes, that includes a good chunk of my favourite characters, but I was also picking carefully so that I choose not more than one from any one universe and such that my picks would actually make a viable team. (And, for the sake of varity, one that's mostly female as well.)

Or perhaps the Bungling Brigade:

Earthworm Jim

The Tick

Combat Colin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Colin) (who none of you will doubtless have heard of...)

Sokka (Avatar)

Xander (Buffy)

Ron Stoppable (Kim Possible)

Who might not be a balanced team at all, but would be hilarious to watch. Half of them spouting heroic nonsense and the other half whittling about them all going to die...

I agree, reality is cooler than fiction. My team:

1. Winston Churchill (team face/stratergist)
2. Charles Darwin (the brains)
3. Eric the Red (hand-to-hand combat, sea transport, navigation)
4. Manfred von Richthofen "The Red Baron" (air support)
5. Michael Collins (unconventional warfare)
6. Simo Hayha "The White Death" (sniper)

Real heroes team?

1. Theodore Roosevelt - Inspirational leader.
2. Andrew Jackson - Crazy ass motherf****er.
3. Jack Churchill - Melee combat and unorthodox weapons.
4. Audie Murphy - Scrappy little kid who kicks ass.
5. Scipio Africanus - Tactics.
6. Nikola Tesla - SCIENCE!

Badass: Sean Connery (as Himself)

As long as there's a woman that needs smacking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FgMLROTqJ0), he's the first, and really the only choice

Hey, Reed Richards has shown some skill in that regard.

I mean, Connery's pick numero uno, but there are backup plans.

Do you mean Hank Pym?
I don't think that Reed's ever smacked any non super villains.

(and in all fairness to Hank, it WAS his reaction to finding out Janet had rewritten his personality to make him a better husband_

Aha! I have had an impact on this thread! Huzzah!

Re: The slapping of women: I disagree completely with what the man says, but you can't deny that he is Old-School Badass.

Hmmm... we may want to make this a vote thread.

How about an all Christian Bale team? It could include:

John Preston ("Equilibrium," martial arts and cool gun kata goodness)
Batman/Bruce Wayne (funding, clout, gadgets, badassery)
John Conner ("Terminator Salvation," pure survivalistic determination)

I'd ask for others to include more, but really I think those three are all you need.

Darwin? You pick Darwin for history's dream team? Seriously? Putting aside the whole "Creation vs. Evolution" debate, and even assuming that we all 'evolved', he still pales when compared to Einstein, Newton, or Edison, to name three easy picks.

Or Richard Feyman.

Perhaps not as much of a genius as Einstein, but he's so much cooler.

Plus he's better with the ladies.

And he can play bongos.
