Gesalt is the progression of two classes at once.
It is from Unearthed Arcane.

Gestalt is an alternate character rules set from Unearthed Arcana.

What it basically means is that when you gain a new level (And at first level), you pick 2 classes instead of one, gain all the class features of each (The same class features don't stack, even in the case of things like Uncanny Dodge), and for all other things such as BAB and Saves, you get the best out of the 2 classes.

So a Barbarian//Sorcerer Gestalt would have Full BAB, D12 HD, good Fort and Will saves, sorcerer spellcasting progression, and all the Barbarians class features.
