Hi, I had a exchange student living with us for a year. During that year we started playing D&D 3.5 edition and we began to like it very much. Now he is back at his home country (wich is like only one hour time diffrence) and playing through few hundred (if not thousand) kilometers of space between us turns out to be quite harder then expected. We tried to play by talking on phones for few times, turned out to be more expensive then fun. Then we tried letters, but it went too slowly and now, we try the internet.

So my question goes, are there any programs out there designed with basic chat functions but neaty RPG tools?

Yeah, Mando's pretty right. Alternatively, if you all get AIM, Yahoo Messenger, or any other Instant Messenger, you can do it via that. Some, I think, have built-in dice-rollers, and if not, InvisibleCastle.com lets you track dice rolls.

I suggest this one (http://gametable.galactanet.com/).
Offers some less tools than Maptools, but is more light weight and user-friendly.
