I think the Ironman one looks really good, Wolverine, is just plain weird, haha. But they're animated by Madhouse, so anything produced by them is amazing for me. It doesn't look like they are staying very true to the original source? Meh, I'd watch it for the awesome animation alone.

The Marvel stopped staying true to the original source when Lee and Kirby stopped working on them. Syndicated comic books have their continuity and characters practically rebooted every time there's a new writer.

These are basically one-shots in the same vein as The Dark Night Returns or Marvels.

With that said, Iron Man looks cool. Wolverine looks incredibly boring.

True enough, if you look at movies these days. hHowever, I wasn't expecting Wolverine to be such a... pretty boy. It was already jarring enough for me when they did that to Bruce Wayne.

Okaaayyyyy... Speaking as Wolverine fan, who generally finds the overexposure of said character to be actually quite funny since it just means more hilarious shin-licking for him to enjoy(I cheered when I first heard about Wolverine and the X-Men) I have to say that...that is soo not Wolverine.

He just does not look right. At all. I know the Japanese like their bishonen (and to some extent, I find that steriotype marginally preferable to the generically grizzled western steriotype) but...

That's like doing a western version, of say, Final Fantasy VII with Cloud (and/or Sephiroth) with lantern jaws and five o'clock shadows. It just ain't right.

(On the other hand, if Jubilee is in the anime, I can forgive almost any sin. But, I have no doubt I'll be fresh out of look on that account. Though, I guess out of all the X-Men she kinda fits into anime quite well...)

Iron Man looks pretty solid. I'm not one to judge a movie without seeing it but changing the appearance of a character thats looked that way for a long time is a mistake. The animation does look good and I can only hope its either his son Daken and the Anime is following a Dark Avengers storyline. Or its an incredibly younger Wolverine. If it is the 'same' wolverine then the problem is viewing it as a new comic...hopefully its gorier then the commercial.

Ugh, yeah..... having been a Wolverine fan since the age of 4, I was just the right age to have grown up reading Larry Hama's Wolverine series, which lasted for the better part of the 90's. When I think of Wolverine, I think of the way Marc Silvestri and Leniel Fancis Yu drew him: short, hairy, and built like a brick ****house. I'd argue the fact that Wolverine is a "little man" is actually an important aspect of his character and closely related to why he originally became popular (he was very much a Dark Horse Fan Favorite in the 70's). Tall, lanky, and especially clean-shaven is just not Wolverine. And yes I said the same thing before I saw Hugh Jackman, but that's different because he plays the attitude perfectly.

Eh...

How they managed to siphon the 'manly' out of Logan is beyond me. The trailer looked painfully shallow, and very 'generic samurai'. Ironman looks like a tech based spin on the reliable DBZ formula. If it has worked for Naruto, Bleach, and whatever else is making bucks... sure, why not? Both look pretty boring to me though. I'd rather see a Frank Miller'd spin on Astro Boy or something.

He'd fit right in.

Iron Man looks like lots of fun. Lot's of missiles flying around and stuff.

But they better make Wolverine's voice more Bale-Batman than Bale-Batman himself if they wish to preserve even a slightest hint of his character.
And they'd better have Masamune. Because, dude, it's Wolverine in Japan! Leaving his sword behind would be a horrible mistake.

...Are you kidding me? What is with the west's obsession with turning everything into a Japanese styled creation? It just looks awful.

Let's look at Wolverine. He may be an overdone fanboy character, but there are some things that still manage to define the character. He is supposed to be a short, ugly concentration of rage, not a tall pretty boy. He is supposed to be reminiscent of an animal, almost verging on the inhuman. There is re imagining a character, and then there is redoing it.

Not even going to look at the Iron Man one, the Wolverine one was bad enough. I hate this animation style, and it just keeps getting more and more prevalent.

Given that Wolverine also seems to be fighting primarily supernatural opponents in the video, I'm guessing this isn't going to be the Wolverine we know and love/hate, so I'm willing to excuse the changes if the movie is decent. "Wolverine in name only" is acceptable to me if the work is good.

Iron Man looks marginally better, but what's with the air pirate swatting missles with his hands and then turning into a robot? Also, as one other person pointed out, we can only see the suit, not the face. I fear we may eat our world when "Tony" is revealed as a 13-year-old with spiky hair. Also, it's "Toni Stark," and she's a girl. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitlefvz14fm99jwr?from=Main.ShesAManInJapan) :smalltongue:

I guess my problem with the wolverine is that the action itself is poor quality. Instead of seeing wolverine moving around a whole lot, we get visual cuts to blades cutting through a black void. I'm sorry, but the reason that I watch things in video format instead of reading a manga or a comic is so that I can see how the action is supposed to have looked in motion.

He was pretty damn ripped. And he had serious facial hair going on. It wasn't like they had Johnny Depp playing him or something.

The key thing, though, was attitude. Hugh Jackman played Wolverine perfectly, with the right combination of usually being a smug "yeah, I could care less" kinda guy going to vein-popping screaming berzerker in under a minute.

...How? He was not that tall and he was really manly. I honestly thought he looked a lot like the real Wolverine (of course hes not as ugly as the real Wolverine but this is Hollywood so of course they were not going to get an ugly actor, they never do). He played Wolverine perfectly as far as I'm concerned. His Wolverine was still bad but thats because of the script.

Anyway, I just really hope that later they will say: «just kidding» and reveal that this guy in the trailer was not Wolverine but just another mutant with metal claws. Because otherwise it will suck. I dont even care if it has the best storyline ever, it will suck because thats just not Wolverine. Thats pretty much the total opposite of how you should draw Wolverine.

Its my belief that pretty != feminine.

http://209.161.37.11/dictionary/pretty

«Appearing or sounding pleasant or nice but lacking strength, force, manliness, purpose or identity.»

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pretty

«Pleasing or attractive to the eye, as by delicacy or gracefulness»

Look, if you would have said: «a tall good looking boy» or «a tall handsome boy» then nobody would have a problem with you. But yes, the word pretty does indicate a lack of manliness. You say a woman is pretty, not a man. Which is why when someone say :«a pretty boy» it does pretty much mean a very feminine boy.

So keep believing that «pretty != feminine» if you want but its just not true.

Edit: And good catch Zevox, I didnt notice that either...man thats just awfull. I really really hope it turn out to be just another mutant who happen to have metal claws and not actually Wolverine.

It's an obvious enough thing that it's believable that you could come up with it on your own. This does not absolve you of the responsibility of making me fear this possibility.

Seriously the Mangaverse is a world where the Fantastic Four are thinly veiled versions of the Neon Genesis Evangelion cast, where Hulk is a demonic Godzilla clone that was accidentally summoned by Bruce Banner, Thor is Super Saiyan Banner and it only gets less believable (and less awesome) from there.

I'm fairly sure that in the minds of the average movie watcher "Guy with three claws on each hand who flashes around and stabs people" is more recognizable as Wolverine than the "ugly short dude" part.

And the ninja's seem to die, almost as if his fighting style is designed to kill them.

Also im not sure how you get LESS realistic than the fact that the current ironman armour is a techno-organic virus that has hollowed out Tony's bones so he his brain can have room to grow.
As for the whole "pretty boy" thing, that's really more an issue of yours than the animators

If that were true most of the comments on the youtube Video woudnt be things like : «thats not Wolverine» or «that girl is awesome, now where is Wolverine» or «Is Wolverine supposed to be behind the tall pretty boy?»

...if by «an issue of yours» you mean an issue with everyone who even know and like Wolverine a little bit then yes. Its not a different take on the character, its they could have named the guy differently and except for the metal claws, nobody would ever have thought that was even Wolverine. Hell, if it wasnt for the fact that they specifically say its a Wolverine anime, I would have thought they were doing a new street fighter anime with Vega as the main character.

No seriously, I dunno why I didnt realize it before but he really look like Vega without his mask.

Just a thought:

If they had released that trailer, but changed the name, would not some of you be claiming they ripped off Wolverine?

Doubt it. Some other people might be, but doubt the people who have spoken up in negative reaction would.

You can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

An individual person tends to be consistent and easy. :D

Well, he still has three claws and dark hair. I mean, he would be using Wolverine's weapon. But I'd just assume that it would be a Ninja using a similar weapon, really.

Most definitly not me no. I really doubt some people would. Claw weapons are perfectly legitimates weapons that were used long before Wolverine and I saw lots of other fictional character with it. Hell, I especially saw lots of ninja with it and since he fight ninja in the trailer I would just think hes a ninja. Apart from the claws, there is absolutely nothing that even resemble Wolverine in that trailer.

Can't access the trailer from here, but: do we see him extending the claws from the back of his hand, like Wolverine does? If yes, that would be a sign of ripoff. If they are just metal claws connected to his arms, fair game.

Go see Ferrus post. You might not be able to see the trailer but you should be able to see the image. It doesnt even come from the back of his hand, he seems to hold them between his fingers. Not to mention he used a sword at the beginning of the trailer.

We just see them appear real fast which once again would just tell me: ninja. We dont see those claws really come from inside his skin.

The comments for the Spider-Woman motion comic state that that people don't understand why she has a British Accent, despite the fact that shes, you know, British.

So you'll excuse me if I don't assume that youtube viewers have any idea whats going on with comics

Aw, but Masamune is one of Wolvie's coolest weapons! Even when he had his adamantium ripped out, he kicked ass with his katana of death.
If they leave out the samurai aspect of Wolverine in a japanimation, I'm going to be puzzled.

I'm-a gonna weigh in on the Wolverine One Sucks side. I mean, nothing about that resembled Wolverine--physically, he was exactly the sort of thing Wolverine does not look like, with anime fighter #21 for his hair, body, and outfit. Even his combat style seemed like the generic pose-awkwardly-and-fly-through-space attacking, with limp-wrists and a stupid look on his face. They just about nailed the ninjas part, but I dunno--when you think of classic Wolverine, you don't think of giant glow-eyed supernatural monsters (giant glow-eyed robots, yes).

Obviously, it's their right to reinvent the franchise, but...I dunno. It just doesn't look like Wolverine to me. And I'm by no means a Wolverine fanboy, or even a comics fan. Or, to be fair, anything like an avid anime watcher (just started last week, although I've seen clips and stuff.)

Ironman looks nice enough.

Supposedly it is only the outside of his bones that has the adamantium and the bone marrow is entierly untouched and um well...healing factor. Seriously you can explain all sorts of biological fail with those two words.

You know, I didn't notice in the trailer due to all the movement, but it looks like they even managed to mess up on his claws. They're not coming out of his knuckles, but his palm. It's especially obvious with the one sticking out from between pinky and ring fingers, and the others are angled wrong to be coming from his knuckles too. How the hell do you mess that up?

I think they're just being sloppy with how they draw them. Taking the trailer as a whole, it looked clear enough to me that they were the regular Wolverine claws.

I dunno; Wolverine was quite "wtf?", while Iron Man just looked like fairly generic power-suit action. It looked fun and pretty, but didn't really spark any interest in the show.

Oh I accept that. Im just saying for the Biologist who posted earlier.

Personally Im more than willing to accept that that superheros are weird.

Hell I accept Hawkman's continuity with love i can do everything.

The problem is getting the White Blood OUT of the adamantium plated bones

Truefact: Wolverine's adamantium has actually seeped into his tendons and sinews over the years, slightly altering them so that even his ligaments are superhumanly tough. That's why he can get punched in the face by the Hulk and thrown a mile out and not just fly apart, healing factor or no.

Generic Powersuit Action is defined as "something that copies the style of combat most frequently used and portrayed by Marvel's Iron Man" :smalltongue:

I dunno about that, I thought the opening (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El0H26Gxak0) for the Japanese dub of the original X-men cartoon was really cool (in a campy 90s sort of way). Then again, they were emulating Jim Lee's style so it's not your typical anime stuff. Like someone here mentioned, anime is a medium, not a style.

At what point is it "anime" as opposed to begin a cartoon.

The Hulk Vs Wolverine movie had art designed by Jeff Matsuda who has done "anime/manga" looking work before.

Its being done by Madhouse who did the Hulk Vs Wolverine movie (that was ALOT more watchable than Wolverine: Origins)

AT what point does one become the other?
