This appears as an enormous man of incredible physique with dark brown skin that has the shiny, padded look of leather. His head, though partially human-shaped, is greatly elongated with a toothy maw that extends out like that of a giant crocodile or saurian, the skin stretching tight over it. His eyes are wide with curiosity and piercingly intelligent with a strangely peaceful look.

Brutmim live through the maxim that might makes right. With their enemies they make sure they are destroyed, utterly and totally. They study their victims for as long as it takes to determine what revenge will be the sweetest. They are scholars of revenge, philosophers of pain, sages of sadism. They tend their vendettas with a care and passion almost that of love.

Brutmim originated as a normal, albeit unusually intelligent, race of giants until some unremembered force wiped out all but a handful. Those remaining devoted their lives to revenge and raised up their children to continue. In the end they so completely and joyfully eradicated their foes with unnecessary force that a prince of the fiends took notice. The race was given immortality as favored of the lower planes.

Brutmim speak Abyssal, Giant and Infernal. They often spend time studying the language of their Enemy as well.

Combat
First they crush their enemy's spirit, seeking out everything that they hold dear. Loved ones, places, things, the worst happens to them. They might be killed and destroyed, changed in such a way as to destroy the memory, or turned against the being, whatever causes the most pain. If they are a pacifist, the brutmim, for example, might arrange events so that all their children grow into bloodthirsty warriors, and then force the pacifist in some way to kill, ideally his wayward children. If they are devout followers of a deity they will set out to make them lose faith. A paladin they will seek a ways to make them perform a horribly evil act.

Second they destroy their mind. Through pain or fear, heartbreak or misery, they bring them to the point of insanity.

Third, they annihilate the body. Through personal combat, magic, or bringing about some catclysm they make sure not even a speck is left of their physical form.

Fourth, they damn the soul. Once the being passes into death the Brutmim pulls them into the lower planes and there enacts upon them torture that no physical body could withstand. Once they are at the point of most exquisite agony the Brutmim devours them, relishing the taste of the fruit they tended so long.

Annihilate (Ex): Those that have their souls eaten by a Brutmim can no longer be brought back to life, even with a True Resurrection spell. The very essence that was theirs is destroyed, scattered and no known force can return them save the gods themselves.

The Brutmim's level increases by 1 HD each time it consumes the soul of a being it has gone through all the steps to destroy.

Crushing Jaws (Ex): When Brutmim bites he never lets go. If he successfully grapples a creature with his bite attack two size categories smaller or more he may attempt to bite them in half each round, killing them instantly if they fail a DC 37 fortitude save.

Instinctive Consummator (Ex): Whenever a Brutmim threatens a living foe with a critical hit, it can choose to automatically confirm the critical hit.

Hatred Domain: A Brutmim is a favored of the lower planes, and as such they are granted the Hatred domain (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/domain.pl?Hatred). They may cast the domain spells as a cleric equal to their HD and also gain the special ability.

Lowershift (Sp): A Brutmim may use Planeshift as the spell once per day, caster level equal to his HD. Save DC's are Charisma-based.

Lover of Pain (Ex): A Brutmim is both a masochist and a sadist. Not only is it immune to pain affects, such as Torture, but gains a +2 morale bonus to all checks while in agony. It also gains this bonus when the target of a sneak attack, successful critical hit, or a single attack that deals it 50 points of damage or more until this damage is healed. Bonuses from multiple instances of the conditions mentioned above do not stack.
A Brutmim may even deal this damage to itself for the bonus.

Strangle the Soul: A Brutmim that kills can see the departing soul as the Spirit Sense feat. He may attempt to grapple them. They are considered to have the same grapple check as they did in life, though with a +4 bonus. Clerics receive a +6 bonus as their attraction to their final reward is strongest. If he succeeds he may take them back to the Lower Planes using his Lower Shift ability without allowing them a save.

Vow of Vengeance: A Brutmim may choose a creature that has in some way done it ill. Anything from as simple as a snub to as serious as the murder of a friend is sufficient, and the Brutmim names them his Enemy.

The Brutmim gains a +16 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against its Enemy. Likewise, it gets a +16 bonus on weapon damage rolls against such creatures. The Brutmim may choose additional enemies, up to 4 total, but for each additional enemy the bonus is halved for all. For example, if a Brutmim had 3 enemies the bonus would be +4 to each. Any time the Brutmim scores a critical hit against one of his or her Enemies, their enemy must make a Fortitude save (DC 32) or die instantly. The save DC is Wisdom-based. It is also immune to Fear affects from it's Enemy, including intimidation.

The Brutmim cannot release one from the Vow. Once it has sworn, it must set out to destroy the Enemies and eventually eat their soul.

If the Brutmim dies before it can fulfill it's Vow it returns to life 1d4 days later. The only way a Brutmim that has made a Vow can be permanently destroyed is if an Enemy has shown it true compassion. If the one who showed the Brutmim compassion is forced to kill the giant it returns to the Lower Planes. It cannot teleport or leave that plane for a year. While in this condition it may be defeated without it's resurrection.

As always, very flavorful and cool. :smallcool: What's the origin of the name?

What's the origin of the name?
Had the word 'Bruteminds' in my head and it got bastardized into Brutmim because it sounded good. Can't claim any deep thought on it this time :smallwink:

I see what you did there... clever tribble!

Well, let me see... should they perhaps be granted some divination abilities with which to gain information to aid in any 'screw-with-the-poor-sap' plans?

That's why I gave them such high ranks in Gather Information and Knowledge (local). He probably can find out more about them than they know themselves.
