I was wondering if somewhere out there existed a system specifically for online "tabletop" rpgs. It could be an extremely simple system, just a flat grid that the DM could draw on as the party advanced and then symbols for the PCs/ NPCs that could be moved around (similiar to an online game of chess, where in each player could move their own piece) to keep track of location. I think that something of that nature would really open alot of doors to online RP groups and help ensure none of us ever sees the light of day again.

I guess I'm thinking of something like Yahoo Messenger's Doodle feature, but on a much larger, grided, canvas.

There are several. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Gametable (http://gametable.galactanet.com/), but it's pretty well-known and probably good.

EDIT: Yeah, what he^ said. :smallsigh:

These are generally known as VTTs, Virtual Table Tops. Some lists :

I want 3D animated versions with first person virtual reality goggles :)

I have some personal experience with GameTable as well, and I highly recommend it.

Gametable works great if you want something simple. If you want to do really complicated things, Maptool is much better.

Edit: In regards to Software related things. They can handle just about any encounter the same in game.

Well then, my mind is now offically blown! Having downloaded and played around with game table just now I am absolutely loving it. So now another question......does anyone know where I could get a ton of OotS style pogs for it?

Well, you could make them yourself. Downloading Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/) and using Trazoi's Guide (http://www.trazoi.net/tutorials/inkscape/oots/) makes it all really simple. Alternatively, check the Request an OotS-Style Avatar thread, the Avatar Adoption Thread, or somewhere like that and see if folks have made them or would be willing to make 'em for you.
