Ok, want some ideas from everyone here. I'm going to get like one of those free-standing wire wine holders... but instead of wine I'm going to have something a bit more interesting in them.

One I know is going to be a ship in a bottle, another possibly a shark in formaldehyde, and so forth.

Who's got some ideas?

Edit:

Need to be feasible, doable, and actually fit in a wine rack/holder.

Fetuses are pretty popular, pig or otherwise.
Hands, eyes, heads... severed is king. However, some items might require more of a jar than a bottle.

Have you considered a warward spirit? An imprisoned flaming soul in a jar is ALWAYS a fail-safe conversation piece.

One of those tornado/vortex in a bottle set-ups for distracting the weak minded while you sink your fangs into their succulently marbled necks?

How about a bottle in a bottle? A recursive one?

Or switch things up, and have a bottle in a ship.

Lighting in a bottle is always cool.

You could use one of those little Tesla spheres to do the job.

Try a faerie in a bottle for a touch of wickedness.

Or a sea monkey kingdom!

On an entirely unbiased note, I suggest a Djinn.

I think they're supposed to be bottle-sized micro-greenhouses or something...

I liked the idea of a bottle in a bottle. Have the smaller one be a greenish glass colour, and be facing the other way, and you win!

If you could reproduce a lava lamp using a wine bottle you could start it up so it sprouts like a tree or otherwise creates an interesting shape. Then you let it cool keeping that effect. Then you could lie it down on your winerack - it might be a spike, some frogswawn or maybe a frozen explosion.

If you don't get the quite the shape you want you could wait a few hours for it to fully melt and cool and then try again.

The main trouble I can see is that pumping unknown gases into a bottle and then attaching it to a electrical source could go horribly wrong.

Candles. Very cool effect when the light shines through the bottle. Just make sure to drain it of the wax occasionally, heating it up first.

In little stands near the Jordanian border, one can find artists with small bottles, funnels, and spoons, delicately forcing grains of colored sand into the bottle in all the right places so that, upon completion, the bottle is akin to a lovely painting in 360 degrees.

Learn to do that.

How about a working computer in a bottle, with all the wires coming through the opening and such? It has to be a bit of a big bottle, but with the current size of netbooks, it must be doable, certainly when you use external input devices (mouse, keyboard etc) that work with bluetooth...

Recently I found out about these little enclosed (and sealed) bottle gardens that were popular in the 60s and 70s.

It's a case of putting in enough soil, nutrients, water and the seed.
Then you put the cork in, tape it shut and leave it in the sun.

Because of how nutrient/carbon/photosynthetic cycles work, it'll last for years if you've done it right.

I like the idea of broken glass, or similar ironies.

Having a bottle, in a bottle, in a bottle, would be interesting, but I'm not sure it'd be possible. Perhaps alongside your wooden ship in a bottle, you could have a wooden bottle in a bottle. It's probably not possible to get a wooden bottle in a glass ship, as it'd be a big challenge to find a ship-shaped glass bottle...would be great though.

Ooooh, a ship in a bottle with the mast too big, so there's a hole in the bottle with the mast sticking out? That'd be hilarious.

A city in a Bottle. Someone suggested New York City, but maybe an Arabic City as a traditional alternative. Yes, I'm reading the Pathfinder "Legacy of Fire" adventure path!

D&D Gamers in a bottle: A table covered with D&D stuff (Maps, minis, rulebooks, sodas, chips), and four gamers sitting around the table. DM with a DM screen in front of him.

The Golden Gate Bridge in two bottles: The bridge extends from one bottle to the other, with the low point of the span at the bottleneck.

A terrarium: Plants and all that. My dad had a bunch of plants in an old 5 gallon carboy.
