Improved Called Shot

You now may only take a -2 penalty to called shots instead of -6.

Size Up

Your size bonus to attacks with a ranged weapon, if it applies at all in a given situation, is now double.

Heavy Rapid Shot
Prerequisite(s): Strength 13, Rapid Shot, Weapon Focus (chosen weapon), BAB +3

Individual attack rolls that ordinarily require a full action to perform are now treated as regular attacks in standard actions. This only applies to ranged weapons that do not impose armor check or movement penalties.

Clear Shot
Prerequisite(s): Alertness

If both you and your target have partial cover, you may spend a move action to make a spot check against the opponent's total AC. If successful, then you may ignore the target's partial cover to all additional ranged attacks against that target.

Guestimator
Prerequisite(s): Blind Fight

When firing at a target you have total cover too, your miss chance is halved and you receive a +4 bonus to hit them, assuming you fire at the right space.

Penetrating Shot
Prerequisite(s): Point Blank Shot

If an obstacle is disturbing line of effect towards your target, you may still damage the target, assuming you deal enough damage to the obstacle to allow your ranged munition to pass through it in a way that your line of effect will ultimately reach the target. The opponent is denied their DEX bonus to avoid this attack and the attack itself receives a +4 conditional modifier, assuming it succeeds. This attack can apply against multiple obstacles blocking LoE towards a target, however the modifiers do not change.

Blind Fire
Prerequisite(s): Sure Shot

Assuming you predict the correct space that the enemy is standing in, you may ignore all miss chance associated with concealment at a -4 penalty to your attacks for the rest of the round. If the first attack hits, then all other attacks during that round ignore concealment as well.

Could we get a link to the firearms? I can't weigh in on these without actually knowing what they apply to or the rules you are using for called shots.

The called shots rules were for a gears of war d20 campaign I was wanting to host awhile ago.

All it is is a -6 penalty not including the size of the body part. So if the head is tiny, then it adds a total of a -8 penalty to the attack.

Forgive me for asking, but what would be the result of a successful "called shot to the head"? Are we talking about a +10% chance of insta-kill?

A little more info would be useful

Depends on the creature. Sometimes a head shot isn't considered a shot to a vital area. Othertimes the damage rolled is too low for it to be considered 'through the skull' (skimming the scalp or removing an ear instead, say). Most of the time though, it's considered an automatic critical hit; never a death attack.

If it reduces to -10 hp in one shot, then their head will become a crushed watermelon. :smallwink:

Sorry to inject a little realism in here, but it doesn't matter how thick your skull is if a bullet larger than 9mm hits your head. A human (Or even anything remotely humanoid) would have either A: A hole through the head, severely damaging the brain, or B: Half of their head sprayed across the wall behind them.

Unless you've got something tough enough to survive without a brain (Undead, for example) that thing is dead, dead dead.

But this is D&D where surviving a head shot from a .50 caliber rifle loaded with thermite is totally plausible. Except most of the time, since it would be a lot of damage (more than a 9mm, that's where it justifies itself).

Besides, where are people hit most of the time when they take damage? It can't be the torso everytime. A critical strike might get them through the heart or somewhere especially painful.

Bullets can glance off bone. This especially true of low energy rounds, like the 9mm and most other pistols. When targeting wild animals, the head usually is not a good place to aim because there is a lot of places you could hit, but not hit anything vital (jaw, nose, etc.) Also big animals often have very thick, strong skulls, further increasing the odds that the bullet glances off.
