Make a map for a campaign setting. Try to include several different areas, by which I mean areas that are different. For example, in the Crystal Cantrips campaign by SilverClawShift, there are (if I recall) four main continents: A polar one, a jungle one, a desert one, and a "central island". Each would be different. However, two stereotypical forests would not be different. Make one have trees that reach up miles, or that are undead trees, or something.

Also, only describe the areas on your map-don't populate them. For example, you could make a forest of undead trees, but you could not say it was the home of the drow.

Hint: Look here (http://www.giantitp.com/articles/xO3dVM8EDKJPlKxmVoG.html) when in doubt.

Have the entries in by Oct. 6th, and the votes in by Oct. 13th.
Scoring:
Less than 3 different areas (as described above): -5
More than 10 different areas (as described above): +6
Ignores the "no populating" rule: -10
Per Vote: +4

Mine might not fit the specific criteria, but I've added two new pages since I last posted it, so here it is in case anybody is interested; *warning* some names have been shamelessly lifted from other places!

Please note that this is just an observation, GreatWyrmGold, and I'm not accusing you of anything, so please don't take offense, but if this is an easy way to get campaign setting ideas and maps, then it's pretty brilliant

Crow, that looks pretty awesome!

I'm not a great drawer, but I might try my hand creating a photoshop map.

Mine might not fit the specific criteria...
I don't see why not, unless you're talking about the centaurs, dragons, and spiders areas.
Well, I guess that they're mostly okay. Spiders in abundance are a big quirk, dragons might just be legends, and the centaurs...I'll take a couple points off for the centaurs.

It is, but not for a campaign setting of mine. My plans will be revealed in the future!

Crow, your map looks awesome! After looking at it, I wish I was playing a game in that world..

Anyway, I did make a map a while back for a campaign world (http://teyworld.wetpaint.com/) I was toying with but currently not really doing anything with it, so I thought, why not show it here? It is not very good, but oh well.

Legend:

Green: Primarily plains, with a small forest, swamp or river here and there.
Dark Green: Primarily forest, with a small clearing, swamp or river here and there.
Blue-green: Primarily swamp, with a small clearing, forest or river here and there.
Blue: Water. Oceans and seas, though also the main rivers and lakes.
Gray: Primarily hills, with some forests, mountains and rivers here and there.
Dark Gray: Primarily mountains, with some hills, forests, rivers and canyons here and there.
Yellow: Desert.
Dark Yellow: Primarily savannah.
White: Primarily tundra, with ice, snow and cold.

This may be stretching the terms of the challenge a little, but I think it makes a good world. It's clear that this continent was once home to large civilizations of powerful wizards. They're all dead now, but their influence isn't entirely.

Parts of the map which are not straightforward:

Steam Cloaked Valley: A valley in the midst of three mountains, where the glaciers continually pour in and sublimate from contact with geothermal heat. The valley is warm, but continuously cloud-covered at low altitude. Above the clouds is frigid. It never rains, but the steam continuously ascends from the earth.

Live Hill: This hill is filled with positive energy, including the healing-to-burst effect of the positive plane (creatures born on the hill are immune to the bursting). Furthermore, the hill itself is alive. It does not react to stimuli, but it breathes through numerous small caves, and heals any damage done to it.

Tunnel and Caverns: There is a straight, smooth-walled tunnel running under the mountains from one side to another. At various points along the way, the tunnel wall cracks and gives entry to a set of varied, labyrinthine caverns.

Desert of Madness: Throughout this desert, the barrier between this plane and the water plane is abraded. At any point, a dense pocket of water may suddenly appear and spurt wherever it can. The water may be any temperature. The total amount which arrives this way is still not enough to make it not a desert. The water comes through somewhat more frequently near thinking minds.

Mountains of Fire: A ruler-straight line of tall mountains, each of which has a permanent portal to the plane of fire in its core.

Crater of Wild Magic: Any creature who ventures here will be targeted by a random arcane spell every 1d4 minutes. The closer to the center of the crater, the higher level the spell. At the center is a pool of dancing lava. It performs ballet. There is little wildlife here, but what there is has high spell resistance. There is about 10 ft on either side in which no magic occurs. Beyond that, there are sheer cliffs as the mountains of fire rise on either side. Inside the safe passage is a 100 ft zone in which creatures are only targeted by cantrips.

Floating Islands: These float roughly 3 miles in the air. The westmost hovers next to the eastmost peak of the mountains of fire. They vary in size from pebbles to several miles across. Even the smallest can hold unlimited weight (though a balance check may be needed). Apart from the islands themselves, gravity is normal here.

Circles of Protection: These are spaced roughly 80 miles apart and are 30 ft across. No one outside a given circle can harm anyone inside (this includes entering for purposes of harm). An empty circle can be entered by anyone.

Ruined Harbour: This is filled with mindless adamantine golems who carry out repetitive tasks that might possibly have related to operating a harbour -- if there were a harbour here. They show absolutely no concern for the safety of anyone in their way, but are never deliberately hostile either. On continually dredges, so there is deep water next to the shore.

The Xs: Each X represents four great stones arranged in an X with an empty space in the middle. Anyone who stands in the middle is instantly teleported to the bottom of the lake near the forest. At the lake bottom there are many similar-looking stones, but they don't do anything.

This (http://nbrs6121.deviantart.com/art/Labeled-Map-121091846) is the map I currently use for my own campaign setting.
The link is best, but here is a lower resolution spoiler'd version.

I have a wiki (http://wilwarin.wikispaces.com/) for it too.

Zeta Kai, do you take map requests?

Wow... That's just... That's great.
Even if it's against the "no population" rule, I give you my vote.
Because you're first and the details are amazing.
Also, hand-drawn =

PM me a sketch or a brief description. I don't always have time, but I'll see what I can do.

I'll add a shameless vote for Kerynia.

Since you're the first to vote for yourself, do you want me to count everyone as having voted for themselves, or no one?

It's your contest; that's a decision that you'll have to make for yourself. I, personally, would say that a vote doesn't count unless the person actually comes to this thread & posts a vote, but that's just me. Whatever you think is fair.

I wish I'd seen this earlier...
This is a map I made two years ago using Gimp 1.0.
Obviously this is too late to be a submission..

Neat map, Chrono22. Though it seems a bit blurry/vague. Is this intentional or a byproduct of using Gimp 1.0?

A little bit of both. I actually had a much more detailed/realistic version of it, but I'm afraid that copy's been lost to time. I was trying to make this one look a bit more granular and dirty, like a torn map.
