This bard is fueled by the Endless Song. The Endless Song is a collection of multi-colored, multi-hued threads that connect every being that has ever lived, is living, or will ever live.

He sees each being around him as a thread of that song, a single measure, and he can utilize the Song to damage his enemies and protect his friends.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
A bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip. Bards are proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields).

Bardic Knowledge
A bard may make a special bardic knowledge check with a bonus equal to his bard level + his Intelligence modifier to see whether he knows some relevant information about local notable people, legendary items, or noteworthy places. (If the bard has 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (history), he gains a +2 bonus on this check.)

A successful bardic knowledge check will not reveal the powers of a magic item but may give a hint as to its general function. A bard may not take 10 or take 20 on this check; this sort of knowledge is essentially random.

{table=head]DC|Type of Knowledge
10| Common, known by at least a substantial minority of the local population.
20| Uncommon but available, known by only a few people legends.
25| Obscure, known by few, hard to come by.
30| Extremely obscure, known by very few, possibly forgotten by most who once knew it, possibly known only by those who don’t understand the significance of the knowledge.[/table]

Bardic Music
Twice per day per bard level, a bard can use his song or poetics to produce magical effects on those around him (usually including himself, if desired). While these abilities fall under the category of bardic music and the descriptions discuss singing or playing instruments, they can all be activated by reciting poetry, chanting, singing lyrical songs, singing melodies, whistling, playing an instrument, or playing an instrument in combination with some spoken performance. Each ability requires both a minimum bard level and a minimum number of ranks in the Perform skill to qualify; if a bard does not have the required number of ranks in at least one Perform skill, he does not gain the bardic music ability until he acquires the needed ranks.

Starting a bardic music effect is a standard action. Some bardic music abilities require concentration, which means the bard must take a standard action each round to maintain the ability. Even while using bardic music that doesn’t require concentration, a bard cannot cast spells, activate magic items by spell completion (such as scrolls), spell trigger (such as wands), or command word. Just as for casting a spell with a verbal component, a deaf bard has a 20% chance to fail when attempting to use bardic music. If he fails, the attempt still counts against his daily limit.

Countersong (Su)
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use his music or poetics to counter magical effects that depend on sound (but not spells that simply have verbal components). Each round of the countersong, he makes a Perform check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself) that is affected by a sonic or language-dependent magical attack may use the bard’s Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the countersong is already under the effect of a noninstantaneous sonic or language-dependent magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it hears the countersong, but it must use the bard’s Perform check result for the save. Countersong has no effect against effects that don’t allow saves. The bard may keep up the countersong for 10 rounds.

Fascinate (Sp)
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use his music or poetics to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and able to pay attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creature. The distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. For every three levels a bard attains beyond 1st, he can target one additional creature with a single use of this ability.

To use the ability, a bard makes a Perform check. His check result is the DC for each affected creature’s Will save against the effect. If a creature’s saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and listens to the song, taking no other actions, for as long as the bard continues to play and concentrate (up to a maximum of 1 round per bard level). While fascinated, a target takes a -4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Listen and Spot checks. Any potential threat requires the bard to make another Perform check and allows the creature a new saving throw against a DC equal to the new Perform check result.

Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect. Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability.

Inspire Courage (Su)
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use song or poetics to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to hear the bard sing. The effect lasts for as long as the ally hears the bard sing and for 5 rounds thereafter. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 morale bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. At 8th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by 1 (+2 at 8th, +3 at 14th, and +4 at 20th). Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability.

Inspire Competence (Su)
A bard of 3rd level or higher with 6 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use his music or poetics to help an ally succeed at a task. The ally must be within 30 feet and able to see and hear the bard. The bard must also be able to see the ally.

The ally gets a +2 competence bonus on skill checks with a particular skill as long as he or she continues to hear the bard’s music. Certain uses of this ability are infeasible. The effect lasts as long as the bard concentrates, up to a maximum of 2 minutes. A bard can’t inspire competence in himself. Inspire competence is a mind-affecting ability.

Suggestion (Sp)
A bard of 6th level or higher with 9 or more ranks in a Perform skill can make a suggestion (as the spell) to a creature that he has already fascinated. Using this ability does not break the bard’s concentration on the fascinate effect, nor does it allow a second saving throw against the fascinate effect.

Making a suggestion doesn’t count against a bard’s daily limit on bardic music performances. A Will saving throw (DC 10 + ½ bard’s level + bard’s Cha modifier) negates the effect. This ability affects only a single creature (but see mass suggestion, below). Suggestion is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting, language dependent ability.

Inspire Greatness (Su)
A bard of 9th level or higher with 12 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use music or poetics to inspire greatness in himself or a single willing ally within 30 feet, granting him or her extra fighting capability. For every three levels a bard attains beyond 9th, he can target one additional ally with a single use of this ability (two at 12th level, three at 15th, four at 18th). To inspire greatness, a bard must sing and an ally must hear him sing. The effect lasts for as long as the ally hears the bard sing and for 5 rounds thereafter. A creature inspired with greatness gains 2 bonus Hit Dice (d10s), the commensurate number of temporary hit points (apply the target’s Constitution modifier, if any, to these bonus Hit Dice), a +2 competence bonus on attack rolls, and a +1 competence bonus on Fortitude saves. The bonus Hit Dice count as regular Hit Dice for determining the effect of spells that are Hit Dice dependant. Inspire greatness is a mind-affecting ability.

Song of Freedom (Sp)
A bard of 12th level or higher with 15 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use music or poetics to create an effect equivalent to the break enchantment spell (caster level equals the character’s bard level). Using this ability requires 1 minute of uninterrupted concentration and music, and it functions on a single target within 30 feet. A bard can’t use song of freedom on himself.

Inspire Heroics (Su)
A bard of 15th level or higher with 18 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use music or poetics to inspire tremendous heroism in himself or a single willing ally within 30 feet. For every three bard levels the character attains beyond 15th, he can inspire heroics in one additional creature. To inspire heroics, a bard must sing and an ally must hear the bard sing for a full round. A creature so inspired gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws and a +4 dodge bonus to AC. The effect lasts for as long as the ally hears the bard sing and for up to 5 rounds thereafter. Inspire heroics is a mind-affecting ability.

Mass Suggestion (Sp)
This ability functions like suggestion, above, except that a bard of 18th level or higher with 21 or more ranks in a Perform skill can make the suggestion simultaneously to any number of creatures that he has already fascinated. Mass suggestion is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting, language-dependent ability.

Cutting Charm
A bard can, at the beginning of his turn, choose to add his Charisma bonus to either A) his weapon damage (eg a bard with a longsword and 18 charisma would then deal 1d8+4 damage per hit), B) His AC, or C) His bonus to hit. (E.g. A 20th level bard with 30 charisma would have an attack bonus of 25/+20/+15)

Rapture of Music
At second level, the bard gains the ability to become so in tune with the Endless Song that he gains a +2 bonus to his AC whenever he is using bardic music.

Flamenco of Flame
At fourth level, the bard gains the ability to tap into the Endless song and, with a snap of his fingers, inflict 1d6/ two Bard level fire damage to one of his enemies at the expense of one use of his bardic music. This is a full-round action, but the bard can sustain the action his next turn and grant himself and one ally within 60 feet fire resistance equal to his Bard level plus his charisma modifier. The sustain is a move action.

Freezing Fugue
At fifth level, the bard can open his mouth and hundreds of voices stream out, each blistering a single enemy with cold. This inflicts 1d6/ two Bard level cold damage at the expense of one use of his bardic music. This is a full-round action, but the bard can sustain the action his next turn and grant himself and one ally within 60 feet cold resistance equal to his Bard level plus his charisma modifier. The sustain is a move action.

Acidic Allegro
At sixth level, the bard can smile and strike the enemy with a simple vitriolic joke that has the power of the Endless Song behind it. The enemy is dealt 1d6/two Bard level acid damage at the expense of one use of his bardic music. This is a full round action, but the bard can sustain the action his next turn and grant himself and one ally within 60 feet acid resistance equal to his Bard level plus his charisma modifier. The sustain is a move action.

Healing Hymnal
At seventh level, the bard can hum a short jaunty tune that lifts his ally's spirits and heals their wounds. The bard makes a charisma check, and one ally within 60 feet is healed hit points equal to the result of that check. this is a full round action.

Elegy of Electricity
At eighth level, the bard opens his mouth and a keening song of sudden loss and shocking grief whips around one of his enemies. This inflicts 1d6/ two Bard level electricity damage at the expense of one use of his bardic music. This is a full-round action, but the bard can sustain the action his next turn and grant himself and one ally within 60 feet electricity resistance equal to his Bard level plus his charisma modifier.

Symphony of Suffering
At tenth level, the bard gains the ability to play the air like a piano, and phantom sounds whirl about one of his enemy's heads. This inflicts 1d6/two Bard level sonic damage at the expense of one use of his bardic music. This is a full-round action, but the bard can sustain the action his next turn and grant himself and one ally within 60 feet sonic resistance equal to his Bard level plus his charisma modifier.

The World is Your Stage!
At eleventh level, the bard, when he is making a Disguise, Bluff or Gather Information check can substitute his performance ranks for his ranks in one of those skills instead. This ability costs one use of his bardic music ability.

Dimensional Dance
At twelfth level, the bard can transport himself and items attached to his body 25 feet+5 feet/level as per a dimension door spell at the cost of one of his bardic music uses a day.

Bouree of Banishment
At fourteenth level, the bard gains the ability to effect a single extraplanar creature with the banishment spell. The DC is 10 plus his ranks in the performance skill. This ability costs the use of one bardic music.

Aria of Agony
At fifteenth level, the bard can create a heart-stoppingly beautiful melody in the ears of one of his enemies, that only they can hear. This inflicts 1d4 negative levels to the enemy at the expense of one use of his bardic music. This is a full-round action, but the bard can sustain the action his next turn and grant himself and one ally within 60 feet immunity to level drain. This ability uses one use of bardic music.

Concerto of Confusion
At eighteenth level, the bard can effect all enemies within 60 feet of him with the feeblemind spell. The DC is 10 plus his ranks in the performance skill. This ability can only be used once a day.

Rapture of Legend
At nineteenth level, the bard can induce one enemy of his choosing into dancing unstoppably as per the Irresistible Dance spell. This ability can only be used once per day. The DC is 10+the bard's ranks in performance.

Dirge of Domination
At twentieth level, the bard can dominate an enemy, be it monster or human. The DC is 10+his ranks in the perform skill. Each turn, the enemy is allowed to make a will save. If it does not make the save, the enemy is fully under the control of the bard. This costs one use of bardic music.

Seems like it could be fun. I especially like the Cutting Charm ability (makes me want to see a paladin-bard), but a few questions.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
A bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip. Bards are proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields). A bard can cast bard spells while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like any other arcane spellcaster, a bard wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (most do). A multiclass bard still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes.

Bold added for emphasis. Is this just a left over from copying and pasting from the bard or did you intend these to have spell-casting in addition to their new abilities? Not that even with these abilities and their normal spellcasting they'd be as bad as wizards or primary arcanists.

Other than that you put Cutting Charm in with the old Bardic Music abilities which seemed odd since you separated all the other new ones. Also the DC on some of their high level abilities can get quite dangerous and match a fully optimized wizard's at least. This isn't too bad except for possibly the 60-ft radius enemy only feeblemind which gets really powerful. Also you left off whether that was a 1/day ability or an ability that costs a bardic music.

Overall, though, I like.

That's a leftover from copy+paste, it will be removed, thanks!

As for the rest, the Concerto of Confusion is 1/day, and I'm going to move Cutting Charm.

Do they still get the 3.5 Bardic spell list, or do the new abilities replace it?

Also, is there a minimum requirement of Perform skill for the new abilities, such as with the Bardic Music effects?

The only problem i see with this class is that at level 20 it can only do anything 20 times, unless this still has the spell list attached to the bard it really narrows down what he can do.

It has spells. I just haven't managed to make those tables yet, they are still sitting in a word document. AP homework does, sadly, come first. There is no minimum perform rank.

Thank you for the feedback!

Very nice. Excellent use of alliteration. And have you come up with a name for this variant class?

I would use troubadour, but they're poets.

I would use troubadour, but they're poets.

Well, it's not like class names in DnD are all that accurate to their historical origins anyway. I would however suggest calling the class Minstrel rather than Troubadour, as the latter are more of a renaissance thing than a medieval one.

I don't honestly think that this needs spells on top of what it's got.

I haven't fleeced everything so i'm not sure if you've gone entirely for damage ignoring the normal bardic illusion but aside from something to give it a little more use of its music [multiple first level abilities and one use of one of them per day is my big bugbear as a Bard player], it doesn't need both to pull alongside most of the other classes [i'm going to hesitantly put this on par with a Swordsage played by someone like me who isn't out to WIN, caps from quotation]

Part of my reason for thinking that Spells should be eliminated is that this has taken something of a turn down music video alley with all the musical explosions and if you're altering reality with your music, why would you take time to learn spells?

Oh, and Minstral of the Eversong would be an interesting name, espcially considering what Minstral actually means in old Norman ["Little Servant"]

Minstrel of Eversong it is!

I'm going to run a 20th level human bard through some playtesting on my own tonight, with and without spells and see how that goes.
