What was the newest comic out when you discovered OOTS?

Personally, 663 (still one of the newbies)

Read it after reading ~17 actual strips and got really confused
about who the blue guys were and where's the order?

Good times..... Good times.... :smallcool:

2009-10-29, 10:05 PM
586, but I read 292 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0292.html) first. Of all comics. >.<

2009-10-29, 10:06 PM
The next to last release. I'm uber new here.

That's why you've gotta Archive Binge right away when you find a new webcomic. :smalltongue:

Let's see… I think I found Order of the Stick when someone shared #102 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0102.html) on rec.games.frp.dnd. So, yeah, I've been here for 585 strips. Didn't start posting on the forums until much later, though. :smallcool:

Sometime before the Oracle, but after the trial.

I have no idea when though. My mind has been muddled by archive binges.

2009-10-29, 10:11 PM
Lessee...after the dungeon of Dokuran, but before much else happened. I can't remember the exact strip #, but it was well pre-Miko, because I remember eagerly awaiting each of the many strips in that arc. I know that's a bit vague, but eh, I've got a terrible memory.

That said, archive trawling is a great thing to do whenever you discover a webcomic. Im a stickler for reading things in order.

2009-10-29, 10:17 PM
#304 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0304.html) was the newest when I started reading, though the first comic I read was 203 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0203.html). There was a link to it in someone's signature over on the WotC forums.

My search-fu tells me I joined the forum sometime between 288 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0288.html) and 298 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0298.html)

Apparently I've been reading longer than I thought. I must have been near the end of the trial, because I do remember not having to wait for the crayons... or did I?

I'm so confused.

2009-10-29, 10:31 PM
572 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0572.html), technically, but i actually read origins first at my cousins house, then when i got home i searched for the site and read the entire comic straight through several times, (unfortunately, i knew right away Roy was dead, but whattya gonna do...)

Andore Mordre
2009-10-29, 10:38 PM
561 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0561.html). 562 by the time I caught up, with an update the next day.

2009-10-29, 10:43 PM
The battle for Azure City was just starting up. I think it was around 417 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0417.html).

10...been here for a while, though lurked for most of that while

2009-10-29, 11:03 PM
Either 344 or 345. And to think I used to be a Durkon/V shipper...

2009-10-29, 11:05 PM
227 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0227.html), I'm the blonde one.

2009-10-29, 11:07 PM
I read virtually the entire archive in one sitting. I have no idea which strip I read first, but I read about 3 in a row, then went to the beginning and read it straight through. I think I ended somewhere around strip 350, but that's not exact.

2009-10-29, 11:10 PM
When I arrived here, the first "Brand New" comic at that time was 512. I started at comic 1, actually. I was told about the site by a friend.

2009-10-29, 11:19 PM
417. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0517.html)

I read through the entire archives over about a week. I read the newest comic every 100 strips or so to see if it would make any sense, and it never did. I kept waiting for those other characters with Haley to make an appearance, having no idea they were basically one-shot redshirts =p.

Mystic Muse
2009-10-29, 11:19 PM
I was here at 608 and I read all the way from the start to there in six days.

I think about a year or two before that I might have come across the "my consience is appeased 27 potions of heroism please" line.

Berserk Monk
2009-10-29, 11:23 PM
I think it was the one with all the Sapphire Guard "ghost" paladin charging Xykon.

2009-10-29, 11:39 PM
I started reading some time during the last hiatus.

2009-10-29, 11:55 PM
Discovered it at 9 and thought it was okay. Later got NCFtPB at 363 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0363.html) and got addicted.

2009-10-30, 01:27 AM
Someone posted 306 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0306.html) on a forum, claiming "know we know Vaarsuvius' gender!". I got hooked on the comic, and later discovered how wrong they were.

2009-10-30, 01:30 AM
This one. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0408.html)

Oh wacky cat dude. We never knew ye.

2009-10-30, 01:30 AM
551 when I caught up, probobly a few behind that when I started reading.

2009-10-30, 01:37 AM
This one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0429.html) was the one that was up when I started reading.

EDIT: #429 if you don't want to click the link

2009-10-30, 02:11 AM
#349 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0349.html) for me.

Only eleven more comics and I'll have been here for half the strip's run!

2009-10-30, 02:28 AM
I honestly don't remember...does that make me a bad person?

Nimrod's Son
2009-10-30, 02:32 AM
I'm not sure I even looked at the latest comic; I just started from the beginning. I caught up with the updates a little while before the Azure City battle.

Totally Guy
2009-10-30, 03:21 AM
332 Was the newest one when I started. That's the owlbear one.

2009-10-30, 03:50 AM
I started reading from #001, read everything in a week and the last one was one of the part when V became evil. I didn't fully realize that the comic was still being written and clicked on "Next" many times, tried to enter the next number in the address manually, suspecting a broken link... and then I got it. Since then, I'm obsessively checking for a new episode every day. I think Rich's holiday was shortly after that, so I re-read it one more time, this time in full, because at first I was skipping some parts that weren't that interesting for me, like Haley's internal dialogues, and read SoD (which was what brought me to the forum, because it was after SoD that I really felt the need to discuss it with other people.)

Good to know I'm not the newest here :smalltongue:

381 for me. I joined the forums by 400.

2009-10-30, 04:47 AM
I think I joined right when Celia was hiding from the Thieves' Guild.

2009-10-30, 05:21 AM
I began reading when the latest comic in the website was #92.

Asta Kask
2009-10-30, 05:45 AM
I think we were still in the dungeon, but I could be mistaken. I think it was around the battle between the OotS and the Linear Guild. I didn't join the forums until much later, however.

2009-10-30, 06:00 AM
First comic I read was #383 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0383.html)

Jan Mattys
2009-10-30, 06:04 AM

This was the first strip of OOTS I ever read.
Yes, Gygax brought me here. Another thing I should be thankful for to the old man, I suppose...

2009-10-30, 06:33 AM
I remember that #20 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0020.html) was the strip that was linked to me that started me on OOTS, and its still one of my all time favorites. But #20 was not the most up to date strip when I started OOTS, I realy can't recall what the 'end' strip was at the time I first discovered OOTS however.... I think it was around the time of the Starmetal Quest.

I do remember feverishly checking this strip many many times every day during the battle of Sapphire City.... Rich is going to have a hard time ever matching that story line for pure epicness. The Shock of seeing how completely over the top Xykons power level was compaired to the OOTS (seeing him cast Meteor Swarm (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0442.html) for the first time!), and then coming to the realization that the City was going to fall..... it was just amazing.

What was the newest comic out when you discovered OOTS?

I forget the exact number, but it was somewhere between 40 and 80. Yeah, back in the Dungeon of Dorukan.

2009-10-30, 07:29 AM
I came to the strip from seeing the ones in Dragon Magazine- and the strip number was around the 270s when I started reading- Crayons of Time.

Didn't join and start posting until around about strip 408 or so.

2009-10-30, 09:22 AM
I started reading the comic somewhere in the single digits.

2009-10-30, 09:24 AM
#600, right on the dot. Was newly exploring TVTropes.

Waited a while to join the forums, though. I think that was shortly before GB Avatar Week...

Grey Watcher
2009-10-30, 09:25 AM
I don't actually remember exactly where, but I do know that I was all caught up to the current issue at or before #35, because I remember coming back after the weekend and the whole "wardrobe malfunction" nonsense to find comic #36. Can't remember where I went from Initial Archive Binge to Regularly Checking for Updates, though....

2009-10-30, 09:28 AM
One of life little's pleasures to find a good web-comic LATE in it's life... because then you can sit down and read it all the way through...

I found OotS probably around strip 300 or so...

I just recently discovered Goblins... Man that was awesome reading it straight through...

I also just found Ctrl-Alt-Del about 6 months ago...

Now I have to check each day hoping one them updated... :(

2009-10-30, 09:55 AM
I'm not sure I even looked at the latest comic; I just started from the beginning. I caught up with the updates a little while before the Azure City battle.

So yeah, I really love your sig.

On topic: I started from the beginning straight off I think. I hate reading the front page comic of a webcomic because it might have spoilers to some big plot twist that happened a few pages back, so once one is recommended to me I hit the archive as soon as possible. (I did the same with Goblins, 8-Bit Theater and Carpe Diem.)

The exceptions are gag-a-day comics like Penny Arcade.

Dusk Eclipse
2009-10-30, 10:20 AM
.... I don't remember which was the latest release because I decided to read it from the start, it was about a year and half ago.

2009-10-30, 10:27 AM
471 was my first:smallbiggrin:

2009-10-30, 11:22 AM
Can't say the exacts but probably just after the Dungeon of Dorukan. Unfortunately, lost my ID in the transfer over and had to create a new one.

2009-10-30, 11:28 AM
I think I started reading when it was in the high 300's.

2009-10-30, 11:29 AM
I started reading the comic at strip 4 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0004.html).

I lurked at the forums since sometimes in the 200s, but I often didn't read the discussion threads because they were too long for my time, and didn't post anything at all. I finally registered only when the server was so slow; then I needed the option to turn off all those images :smallwink:

2009-10-30, 11:35 AM
The very first comic I read was 223 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0223.html), I was linked to it. At the time, the latest comic was 370 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0370.html).
However, I took my time catching up (notably, I ordered the books to catch up with them, as reading too much on a screen gives me headaches) so the first update I had to wait for was 453 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0453.html)

Allan Surgite
2009-10-30, 11:38 AM
I have forgotten the number, but the comic up when I finished archive binging was "I have to fix everything"; so, shortly after Vaarsuvius made his deal with the IFCC.

2009-10-30, 11:44 AM
roy was arguing with the shopkeeper about not having any swords the first time i hit next and nothing happened

2009-10-30, 11:47 AM
Sadly, I never actually paid that much attention. I think it was about when Miko and the party were staying at the inn; I remember having to wait for comics the entire time Haley was cryptogramming. Might have been a little before that, but it's roughly when I started reading.

It took all of about 10 minutes in my next gaming session before the phrase "I GOT A 4!!!" was a standard fixture at our table. :)

2009-10-30, 11:56 AM
218 was the first I saw, but it didn't really grab me. I came back into and actuallys tarted reading the strip around the time they hit cliffport.

2009-10-30, 09:05 PM
I'm not sure, but I distinctly remember waiting for the new strip to come out and reading this strip (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0473.html) several times. The first strip I ever read was this one (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0274.html), from a link on the Dungeons & Dragons website.

2009-10-30, 09:46 PM
Sometime pretty early. While I don't remember the exact number it was defiantly at some point while the OOTS was still in the dungeon of dorukan which means I following the strip nearly from the start. Obviously I never bothered registering for the forum onto much much later.

I also just found Ctrl-Alt-Del about 6 months ago...

Now I have to check each day hoping one them updated... :(

Ctrl-Alt-Del has a regular, not-missed-in-years (if TVTropes is to be believed, see ScheduleSlip) update schedule of Mon-Wed-Fri.

Now you know. (Half battle, blah blah.)

I remember the comic really well, since it was a big one.
I really had no idea what was going on. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0430.html)

2009-10-30, 11:41 PM
The one where the Mitd finds out that Haley is part of the order.

2009-10-30, 11:44 PM
548 was the current comic. I was linked to the first comic by a Baldur's Gate forum. It updated to 549 during an archive binge, my first update that I waited for was 550. I remember seeing O-Chul thrown into the cage and thinking it was Roy, so when he died, I was wondering how they were gonna raise him, have goblins capture him and throw him into a cage. Up until the 530s I was really confused, then I realized that it was O-Chul

I starting lurking in the forums for 553 to see what was thought was in V's cage, and I think I created an account when Elan chose to stay in the net

2009-10-31, 02:54 AM
Iirc 161 or 162 was first one for me. Got completely hooked by 164.

Why do years run past so quickly..puuh.

2009-10-31, 05:31 AM
Hahaha. you guys took a week to get through the archives?

I came in at around #623 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0623.html), absolutely didn't get the comic, read back about 5 strips, still had no idea what was going on, and went from #1 to #550 in the first night. Slept at 2am. Caught up properly the next day.

I think there's something wrong with me.

2009-10-31, 06:05 AM
One of life little's pleasures to find a good web-comic LATE in it's life... because then you can sit down and read it all the way through...

Archive binge is good, but being late means that you lose all the excitement of waiting for the next episode and discussing it, especially when they're cliffhangers or jokes. For some of the comics, I checked the respective discussion threads in the forum archives, like when everybody despaired over how Lawful Stupid Miko is after #214 and then they were proven wrong in #215. I regret not being there then and being fooled (for days) along with the rest of the audience. :smallsigh:

2009-10-31, 08:28 AM
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0541.html And was still 541 when I caught up. :P

2009-10-31, 10:08 AM
I read OOTS for hours continuously when I first found. Until one time the next button didn't work. And it was on this comic. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0283.html) And it was still Friday.

I have yet to forgive Elan.

#59 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0059.html) was the first comic I read, but I didn't even realize their was a forum for a looong time after that. :smalltongue::smallredface:

2009-10-31, 02:01 PM
Well, when i started 568 was the newest. I was more than a half through before 569 went up. And now i think ending up in a coma would be a nice thing to pass the time till the archive builds up a little....

2009-10-31, 02:29 PM
My first archive binge ended on #442 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0442.html), which still happens to be one of my favourite strips.

I picked a very interesting time to pick up the comic too, considering #443 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0443.html) came the next day. Definately had an impact at my happiness towards #665 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0665.html) when we finally got there.

2009-10-31, 04:56 PM
535. But I started from the very beginning. Only when I looked up how long it will take to get to the newest comic I think I remember seeing this halfling with a cat on the very bottom of the page.^^

2009-10-31, 08:56 PM
I remember the comic really well, since it was a big one.
I really had no idea what was going on. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0430.html)

Oh hey, that was my first comic too. I had no idea what was going on either, but the backstory suggested in that comic made me read through the archive.

2009-10-31, 09:42 PM
I think it was around 555 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0555.html), but I started from the beginning, so I suffered no confusion.

2009-10-31, 10:46 PM
I finished my archive binge at 654, waiting for 655.
