Nice comic, Coffee. The splash page is wonderfully :smalleek:

My only nitpick is that the text is getting a little bit too small and cramped; it's part of the comic that's just as important as the images. Take some time to get it as readable as possible. (Although good job not using comic sans.)

Poor Matt...

When you can turn into a Dire Bear, one would think excessive planning ahead from that point would be rather frivilous, so no and no.

Plan A:
Radic Wild Shapes into a flying animal; preferably an eagle. She flies up really high, turns back to normal, falls, then Wild Shapes into a Dire Bear so she can crush the spider and deal extra damage. However, this was her last Wild Shape of the day (Middle of the night battle) so...

Plan B: Janine buffs up Radic with Bull's Strength and such, as Radic does the same to herself. Then Radic climbs up really high, jumps, and Wild Shapes into a Dire Bear. Then go nuts. But Janine was out of buff spells, so...

Plan C: Radic uses whatever buff spells she can on herself, then try to climb that tree and hope for the best. Thankfully, it worked.

Hey guys, while you're waiting for me to update (Later tonight), I've got a crack pairing that Discord wrote and wanted me to post!

===

"YEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!"

Lloyd looked up from the halberd he was polishing to eye suspiciously the party's rogue, Matt. Matt being happy never boded anything good, though thankfully usually more for himself than for the rest of the party since the universe seemed to have taken a level of ranger and chosen Favored Enemy (Matt). Not that he could blame it, really. When you were dressing as tastelessly as he did, you were certainly asking for it. And that was without considering his absurd strand of cyan hair. Astrid, was that thing ridiculous. But at least it scared goblins away.

"What makes you so happy?"

"I finally managed to talk Radic into wearing a bikini!" the rogue replied triumphantly.

Lloyd stared at him for a few seconds before refocusing on his weapon. "Yeah right."

"That's true!"

"And how, exactly, did you manage to convince her?" asked a skeptical paladin.

"Nothing but sheer charisma, ye faithless."

<Remus, Rescue!>

Radic told Remus to get Matt out of battle. Unfortunately, the way Remus dragged Matt out of the battlefield...

Is this one easier to read?

Please. The universe took a level of Ranger and chose Favored Enemy (Matt).

Since I'm starting up a GURPS campaign, I like to think of it more as not reading the fine print on Cursed:

Like Unluckiness, but worse. When anything goes wrong for your party, it happens to you, first and worst. If something goes right, it misses you. Any time the GM feels like hosing you, he can, and you have no complaint coming, because you are Cursed. You can't buy this off just by spending points - you must determine what has cursed you and deal with it, and then spend the points.

None of my players were stupid enough to take it.

It's a +1 longsword. (Is a +1 weapon appropriate for a level 9 character?)

No, the weapons hanging off of Matt's belt are daggers.

That may be, but she's only a little over 5'3". She can only handle so large a weapon safely. A greatsword might be a bit too much for her, no matter how much she may want to use it. :smalltongue:

It's a +1 longsword. (Is a +1 weapon appropriate for a level 9 character?)

Depends on if she is primarily a melee fighter or a spellcaster. If she plans on wadin into melee every fight then I'd give her something with more 'oomph'. Make it 'Holy' - that should be more than enough:

Holy
A holy weapon is imbued with holy power. This power makes the weapon good-aligned and thus bypasses the corresponding damage reduction. It deals an extra 2d6 points of damage against all of evil alignment.

However, a historical nitpick. Longswords were typically between 41 and 47 inches in size. If she's 5'3"... she can certainly wield it, that's just strength. But the scale is a bit off in the pictures. It is at minimum 65% of her length... (not that it really matters, but just FYI.)

I'm thinking about statting them for GURPS, which tells you more about their personality than the D&D statblock. Have I your permission.

Janine does both.

What does bypassing DR mean, exactly?

It's specially made. :smalltongue:

Asta Kask

Janine does both.

What does bypassing DR mean, exactly?

Some monsters have DR - this means that all weapon damage they take is lessened by a certain amount. So if they have DR 5 they take 5 less damage per attack from weapons (but not spells). Until you go epic, they generally don't go beyond DR 15.

Now, most DR comes with something that bypasses it. For instance, werewolves have DR 5/silver (IIRC). This means that if the weapon is not made of silver, they take 5 less damage. If the weapon is made of silver, they take normal damage.

Many evil creatures - demons, for example - have DR which is bypassed by 'good' aligned weapons. Holy weapons are automatically 'good' (and Unholy weapons are automatically 'evil'), but there are also paladin and cleric spells that can make weapons 'good'.

It's specially made. :smalltongue:

Of course! Just don't forget about posting it here! (What is GURPS? :smalltongue:)

It's not that important. Roy technically wields a greatsword, but his weapon as drawn is more in the longsword range. A greatsword was between 5' and 6'!

GURPS (http://www.sjgames.com/GURPS/) is the Generic Universal RolePlaying System, designed to be adaptable to any place, any time, any background... It is quite different from D&D - it is not class or level-based, but point-based (a normal character is 25-50 points; a beginning adventurer somewhere near 150 points; the Murphy's Law crew are probably about 500 points; OotS are closer to 750-800 points; Xykon is probably near 1200-1500 points). It is also extremely modular, so you can run an insanely detailed campaign or a very rules-light campaign and the system works for both. And I like it, in case you hadn't noticed.

Apparently the biggest Zweihänder (german greatsword) on display is 213 cm, or 7'. It weighs 6.6 kg (14.5 lbs.), which doesn't seem like that much until you realize the guy had to swing it for the hours that the battle lasted. Muchos musclos.

Radic doesn't really worship, per se; she respects and reveres nature.

If Radic lived on the Southern Islands instead of the Western Continent, where this story takes place, then she would have worshiped the Island Gods. But she doesn't.

Janine and Lloyd, they worship. Especially Janine, since she's a cleric. Funny story behind that, actually. :smalltongue:

Hey guys, while you're waiting for me to update (Later tonight), I've got a crack pairing that Discord wrote and wanted me to post!

===

-

Twenty minutes ago.

"Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepl easepleasepleasepleaseplease!"

"Okay, okay, I'll put on that goddamn bikini! Just get off me now, you freak!"

-

"I see."

"Did someone say "Radic" and "bikini" in the same sentence?" asked the resident nymphomaniac as she walked towards them.

"Yeah! Isn't it awesome?"

"It is! I never managed to make her wear anything revealing!"

Lloyd rolled his eyes skywards and prayed Astrid to grant him the strength to not strangle anyone.

"Guys?" The trio turned around to see Radic's blushing head sticking out from behind a tree. "Please don't laugh," she said as she walked into view, wearing a dark green bikini.

Matt bore a huge smile going from ear to ear that swiftly disappeared to be replaced by a look of pure horror when his eyes drifted down to her waist.

"I don't think that's supposed to be there," commented Lloyd.

"Oh, Radic," said Janine as she licked her lips. "I had no idea you combined the best of both worlds..."

As Matt dropped to his knees to scream a ground-shattering "NOOOOOO!" and Janine remorselessly jumped her friend to kiss and grope her, Lloyd walked away, muttering something along the lines of "Astrid sent them to try me..."

Sorry it's been so long since I've commented, but I'm having trouble juggling schoolwork and getting on the forums with anything that could be considered consistency.

That being said, I've enjoyed the last two comics immensely. I think you caught the dynamics of a fight scene very well, and it helps that you showed Radic and Janine clearly knew how to behave in a fight with one another. I also adored the last panel of #14 with Matt.

I don't want to sound rude, but I have one minor nitpick about #14. In the second to last panel, Lloyd asks where Matt is, and after he does so, Radic points out where Remus is (which, in the next panel, is where we also see Matt). Yet after both of these, Janine also asks where Matt is. Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but that seemed slightly redundant to me. It hardly hurts the comic, I'm just pointing that out.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

In #14, Janine has just caught up the the rest and only caught a bit of the conversation. That's why she asked.

And, without further ado, NEW COMIC TIME!

A lot of these scenes literally popped into my head. I think of the characters doing something crazy awesome, or some action that only that character would do, just random events and I write them down in my head, then on paper, then embellish them and weave them into the story.

And no. Radic would be too disgusted to do that. :smalltongue:

Ok. I'll read it tomorrow because I'm off to bed.

*hugs*

You sound tired, and you have a big day tomorrow too. Don't stay up late.

Wait? If it made you a happy puppy, wouldn't your instinks be to chase your cat? :smalltongue:

*Sigh* Well, this has been one of the worst weeks of my life. At least we have an update to make it better.

#16: Lloyd Zephyr Is Not A Morning Person

As always, questions, comments, thoughts, etc. are greatly appreciated!

Eh, not funny to me. The joke was broadly telegraphed, and the punchline was in panel 6.

Though now we might see a Lloyd/Janine bath scene.

Meh, the covered in gunge joke doesn't really work for me. the last panel, though, was pretty funny in a snarky way.

I also liked Janine's comment in the first panel.

Sstoopidtallkid: Sorry you didn't like it. You'll probably like the next comic though. :smallamused:

Yeah, but it was just sitting there, waiting to be done. Thanks though.

THEY'RE THE ONLY SANE ONES THERE. :smalleek:

Hooray, you got the continuity from the last comic!

Word of advice: adventurers never do anything manually. Long poles to push things, Molotov cocktails to open wooden doors, and above all, summoned monsters to do anything vaguely dangerous or humiliating. Nothing like a cleric calling upon the forces of her God to condense the forces of Good into the shape of...a monkey. That is then used to put on a new helmet, just to check. And then explodes, justifying the use of the monkey.

Or maybe that's just my groups.

Lloyd Zephyr is not a morning person. Do you think straight when you're tired? :smalltongue:

Also, it wouldn't make for as good a story for it to be the norm, you know?

I really liked Janine's first panel statement. "Astrid damm it! I'm fully healed!"
She really wanted Lloyd to use Lay on Hands on her. :smallwink:

My other comment is that, in the last panel, the text should be placed differently so we can easily tell which parts are said first.

Note how happy she looks in the last panel. :smallwink:

Yes, but it would have been awkward otherwise.

*snigger*

When you say it mushrooms into something bigger, are we talking edible fungi here? Or 'shrooms?

The phrase "Mushrooms into something bigger" refers to how a mushroom's stalk is small, but the cap is very, very big.

Basically the plot's going to turn into something much bigger than killing a green dragon in Salix Forest.

Glad you both enjoyed!

The mushroom comment was a joke, (Perhaps I should work on my delivery...)and a way of asking how strange the plot would be. Normal fungi or hallucinogenic...

I just hope there are plenty of willow-trees in the Salix forest. And of course, grinding their bark and cooking it lets you make an analgesic - guess which?

Which analgesic can you make from willow bark? The other is more of a pro-drug.

Aspirin, but I don't see why they'd need lots of...Oh. :smallamused:

Technically, aspirin is a (mostly) inert compound that is converted to salisylic acid in the liver. This is done to prevent it from completely chewing up your stomach - salisylic acid is much more efficient at doing that. Bad thing to drink, but if there's nothing else around...

Salicylic, I think you mean.

But yeah, I knew that.

Does Radic know? But a CLW is probably more efficient than ground willow bark anyway.
