Any one know where I can find a good table for rolling random mutations to a character? I'm making an artifact and the idea is that as you wield it, you slowly transform into a monster.

Worst case scenario is that ill make my own, thought it would be convenient if one already existed.

It doesn't necessarily have to be home brewed.

For which game exactly? d20 Apocalypse has a really good table, but you need the SRD.

DnD 3.5, but anything can be adjusted really.

I've made one you can use. It's specifically intended for druid drifts and similar, so it's very nature-oriented, but I'm sure things can be twisted and you're welcome to adapt it if it'll be useful.

Ooh. These are great. I'll have to save them in case I ever send my players to the beastlands.

This is perfect!

The idea is, the Artifact is a +2 Keen Ambivalent Transmuting Sizing Scimitar or Chaotic Power. It is the weapon once wielded by Isper, the god of chaos, trickery, and shapeshifters. I addition, the blade bestows upon the wielder the following abilities. Detect Law, Dispel Law at will, Cloak of chaos 3/day, polymorph 1/day, baleful polymorph 1/day

Curse
Non-chaotic, non-nuetral, non-shapechangers who wield it lose one point of intelligence (stops draining at 2) every week they are in possession of the sword. In addition, every time a point of intelligence is drained, the wielder must roll on that chart. I'm going to say that once the transformation type has been established then the character continues to roll on that chart. once the character has been reduced to 2 intelligence he loses all grip on his humanity and becomes a wild beast. if the sword is removed from the wielder before this time the transformations stop and intelligence damage heals as normal and a wish or miracle removes the mutations, though if the it isnt stopped before this point the curse becomes permanent. The wielder being effected does not notice the changes and if they are pointed out he will usually dismiss them. this is not to be said that he can not be convinced that he is in fact changing but he usually wont care.
he is not magically compelled to hold on to the sword, and isn't any more reluctant to give it up that anyone one else being asked to give up their weapon.

This is just a rough draft...

Serpentine, have I ever told you that you're the single most beautiful homebrewer on this forum?

As a Furry (or "Scale-y" if you want to nit-pick) I approve of these tables in general.

Sounds like a good item to take custody of during down-time, then pass on... since all the mutations on the table are beneficial. Might want to mix in some bad ones, or at least say that a wielder who IS chaotic or whatever can add mutations to them-self up to... say their Con score? Anyway, one per week, and they get to pick which ones (although maybe only from one chart, decided when they make their first pick), as it is, a character who DOESN'T fit the sword's criterion might get more benefit from it in the long run (including reselling it when they hit INT 3), than someone who can actually safely hold on to it permanently.

Serpentine, have I ever told you that you're the single most beautiful homebrewer on this forum? That's a lie :smalltongue: I just like tables! Also, that Vorpal Tribble is quite the looker :smallwink:

Draco: All the "Mechanics" are just examples. It would be easy enough to give them negative consequences. For example,
Scent/Sharp nose: Vulnerability to nasty smells & gases.
Light bones: Vulnerability to bludgeoning.

etc.
