Republic of Cardina: A large nation frequently at war with it’s neighbor Radinal over control of the Long Valley. While technically it’s a series of small wars, the intermittent nature of them means the nations are never truly at peace. These wars are generally referred to collectively as “The Long Wars”. These wars are indirectly the cause of much unrest within the nation.
The Directorate: Technically the administrative wing of the Republic of Cardina, the Directorate has essentially taken over the government. Since almost all the posts are appointed by those already in the directorate, the Senate gradually began losing power as the directorate grew larger, until the Directorate took over running the elections. Since then, the senate has danced to the tune of the Director General.
DSF: Domestic Security forces. Technically a national police force, the DSF is very military in outlook and doctrine. The DSF serves a dual purpose, between the wars, it provides a nice place to keep military personnel busy, it also provides a steady supply of recruits for when the war starts up again, since DSF officers already have much of the basic training and indoctrination.
Deefers: a derogatory term for DSF personnel.
Longshots: Soldiers, specifically those who fought in the Long War.
Longcracks: Soldiers who returned from the Long War mentally or physically damaged

I actually thought it was laziness or bad art. That sounds a lot more likely, though.

Indeed. I shall tell the story of a nation in conflict through fart jokes, slapsticks, and puns on the word "Apricot".

It should be noted that I made this comic and named the character well Before I realized I had introduced a character named Kilroy by having him peek over a wall.

Not yet. To me, guy at the desk is a nameless mook. Just someone James had a conversation with while waiting for his superior. (no name there either)

So you could still do a proper introduction if you want.

As in, I'd made this comic (And he's not at a desk, he's peeking over a cubical wall), and made Friday's comic (Where he is referred to as Kilroy), and then I realized what I'd done.

Commander guy still doesn't have a name though. Maybe his name should just be "Sir".

Same guy who named his kid major major major, then had him join the Air Force where he was immediately promoted to the rank of Major.
Edit: maybe Sir is short for somthing, like Sirio (which sounds like it could be a name). Maybe his last name is Knight, so he could be Commander Sir Knight ( I havn't actually decided what his Rank is).

Make the characters' sizes larger. The background tend towards the undetailed side, so maybe give enlarging a try by filling up the frame with more of the character?

Definitely should use a larger dimension for the picture instead of ~582x546 though.

I think you made an error in the last panel, it looks like she's saying that they won't achieve anything by the riot and then repeating what another person said two panels earlier about how they should join the riot.

Okay, I should have fixed that (Though now the layout is even worse. I need to stop with that wall-of-texting).

I couldn't decide whether or not she was using red paint or pepper spray, thanks for deciding for me.

Why? To incapacitate him temporarily (paint in the EYES) so somebody can stop him before he pulls out a gun/hits them with his nightstick/goes for help in an annoying security guardish fasion.

Comic 2 Second line of panels- the Sgt. Becomes a Captain??

I've fixed it, but it stubbornly refuses to be fixed (I deleted the old image, uploaded a fixed one, and even replaced the links, but it's still leads to the old version)

In the meantime my reasoning will be that the DSF blames the shooting on a panicking Sergent, while the Rebels blame it on a Captain.

Edit: What High concept, this is a comic about Armpit farts.

The first time I read it, that was what I thought as well.
However, the words "that same captain" made me think it might be a mistake.

High Concept: Love Interests Hide Secrets as One Struggles For Freedom and Another Struggles For Stability, set against the backdrop of a police-state revolution.

I only recently decided to make them proper characters who will show up later as part of something called "Foxhound Unit", but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Very good strip, BRC. That inspirational speech was awesome.

I may not comment much, but I love this comic, especially the ambiguity between the two sides. I hope you'll preserve this until the very end, true Grey and Gray morality being fairly rare (most of the time, there's a side that's more right than the other, even by a little margin).

Personally I find "grey and gray" morality to be QUITE annoying, and doesn't make for a good, compelling story. Because when boths sides are perfectly grey, there is absolutely nobody you can route for, or care about in the slightest. Nobody you worry about not winning, because both sides are equally evil.

Of course, slightly less grey on one side can lead to a thought-provoking story about how maybe the protaginists aren't as good as they think, yet still give us a PROTAGINIST to route for. An interesting hero can be created when one must do the right thing, despite the fact that it has some wrong things wrapped around it. But when nobody has ANY moral highground whatsoever? It's just not as interesting.

Then again, if this is somehow seen as a positive thing by your man followers, I wouldn't recommend changing it. I personally don't get if, but if everybody else does then keep up the good work, I suppose.

Maybe the point is that you have to figure out which side is the best. Which is the worst. Which is more brutal and violent. Which has the better views. Which is the lesser of two evils. Which is the greater good. It is up to you who is best. Maybe.

Personally I find "grey and gray" morality to be QUITE annoying, and doesn't make for a good, compelling story. Because when boths sides are perfectly grey, there is absolutely nobody you can route for, or care about in the slightest. Nobody you worry about not winning, because both sides are equally evil.

It's less that there is no moral highground, it's that there are two moral high grounds, each equally high.

Let me say it here, both of the Protagonists, James and Maria are, at least in my mind, Heroes, or at the very least well intentioned, just working from different perspectives. Neither are exactly shining paragons of justice, but this isn't Vader vs Sauron (Though I would personally pay quite a lot of money to see that). This isn't going to be one of those stories where everybody is a villain and you are choosing between the guy who wants to stab you and let you bleed, or the guy who wants to strap you to a chair, cover you in gasoline, and light you on fire.

Now, that's not to say there are not villains here, both sides have villains. There are going to be Loyalists who love nothing more than grinding somebodies face into the ground with their boot, and Rebels who just want to see the world burn. But there are also Rebels who are fighting because they are trying to overthrow a tyrannical government, and there are Loyalists who are fighting because they believe the nation's fate should not be handed over to a group of people simply because they are armed and angry. You could say each side is equally evil, but you might as well say they're both equally good.
If it bugs you that I'm not showing one side shooting puppies while the other feeds orphans, I can recommend an excellent film for you, it's called Star Wars, they color code the villains for you. I recommend you start with part four. Not that theirs anything wrong with having a clear hero and villain, I just decided I didn't feel like doing that.

Also, I gave you a mini-cameo. Apparently in Reb|Rev universe you have a radio show! You can only see the top of the poster, with your name and a bit of your hair(Thedore Que, The Q, see what I did there!), the rest got covered up by a wall of text.

Concerning the Speeches. I had written Maria's broadcast some time in advance, and had written it into the plot from the beginning, so it got alot of thought. James's speech was a more spur of the moment thing. At first it was just him explaining the plan, it then turned into an inspirational speech at the last minute. It probably sounds a lot better in my head, with properly dramatic vocal inflections.

Also, random creative process nonsense that nobody besides me cares about.

Uncle Martin was a recent creation, well kind of.
To keep with the whole Parallels thing, I needed both my protagonists to be decent combatants. Yeah their main role is going to be as leaders rather than fighters, but a good fight scene is just too nifty to pass up in a story like this. Giving James combat skill was easy, he's received training, throw on a little natural talent and Boom.

But Maria posed a problem. I could give her natural talent, but the idea of an angry waitress holding her own against trained, better equipped professionals on a regular basis just bugged me. I wanted a good fight between equals, Knife versus Nightstick.
I looked to the seven years between the Mutiny and the Riot, she had to be staying with somebody during that time, an Uncle fit, maybe she learned how to fight from him.
For a while this Uncle sat in my head as an Arms dealer or criminal of some sort, but that jut bugged me for some reason. Inspiration struck in the form of a class I'm taking about 20th century Europe, specifically the bit in the beginning called World War One. I'd always imagined the Long War as being WWI-ish, a meatgrinder that wore away without much purpose, throwing in a little bit of trench warfare fit perfectly. The Death Wishers just grew out of that.
And Boom, I had Maria's fight teacher. Martin would have plenty of combat experience, especially with the close-quarters knifework I imagined Maria doing. He could also be the sort of person who, upon being informed he's now in charge of raising his brother's daughter, decides it's a good idea to teach her how to use a avoid gunfire and use a knife. His experiences drove him crazy, made him paranoid. When he walks through a narrow hallway, he might have trouble remembering he's not storming a Radian communications trench with enemies lurking behind every corner. For somebody like that, teaching Maria to fight would be like teaching her to look both ways before crossing the street.

As I wrote the Bio, I built his image in my mind. This was somebody who went to War and was selected to become a Trench Raider. I played Dragon Age recently, and the dwarven Legion of the Dead leaked in a little when I thought up the Death Wishers. While most soldiers stay in large groups, Death Wishers were supposed to get as deep as they can into enemy trench networks. Numbers wouldn't be much help in the narrow trenches, so I pictured them using small groups, three or four at most. Their job was to get as deep as they could in these groups of four and cause as much damage as possible before getting pulled back, which means hoping the line holds long enough for you to get out before the enemy closes back up and you're trapped. If they survive, it just means doing it again tommorow. You'd have to be crazy to do that, so they manufacture crazy people. You use psychology, propoganda, drugs, whatever to get them into the proper mental state. They don't fear death because they're already dead. They wear skulls and proclaim themselves Dead Men Walking. They live every day like it's their last because it probably is. They don't think about going home, because they don't expect to get there.

Take somebody who is trained and conditioned to think like this, to think that nothing matters except the destruction of the enemy, stick him in a PoW Camp for a couple months, and you've got somebody like Martin Ruspyzn. The War took him in, chewed him up, and spit him out broken. It ruined his life, but it reshaped him so thoroughly that he can't let him go. He still wears his uniform coat, and instincts honed in the trenches refuse to let him go anywhere without a Gas Mask handy.
I tried to show this with the artwork presented on the character sheet, of the bright, grinning soldier shown gleefully slaughtering his way through the Trenches, and the broken man he became, constantly paranoid, unable to sleep. Hating the War, but still trapped by it. His body is hunched, his eyes are rimmed, his hair is thinner, more ragged, and rapidly approaching Gray.

Also, I could have Maria call him Uncle Mar. Mar, as in Mars, god of War. See what I did there.

Okay, this post turned out a LOT longer than I imagined. Thanks for the comments everybody, sorry about the constant comment-begging, but making these things is hard work, and I have far more important things I should be doing with my time. Seeing people respond helps remind me that I'm not just throwing these things out into the void.

This comic has what I call "Polka-dotted Morality". It's the kind of morality that I think is the best, because it shows you two sides, and shows you that it is not the "sides" that have morality attached to them ("Colour coded", as BRC said about Star Wars.), but individuals or groups in both sides who are coloured a darker or lighter shade than others. Hence polka-dots.

It's easier to work with black and white morality, but far less interesting. It's like being told "these people are all bad, and these people are all good." and you don't have any reason to care about the "Bad" people when in a realistic scenario there would always be reasons.

That's why BRC has done a nice job here. Having taken history, I'm rather familiar with a lot of the revolutions that have taken place over the more modern years, and this really captures that feeling of "Is anybody really right or wrong?" quite well.

Personally, however, I tend to side with the ideals of BRC's "Loyalists" a lot easier, even though I know both sides can be equally as kind and ruthless.

It is a lot more of a challenge than working with black and white, and bravo to you, BRC, for doing it well.

Maria's speech being planned and the officer-who's-name-I-can't-remember's speech being spur of the moment seems to fit the comic. She probably planned her speech whereas the officer had to come up with a quick plan and quickly motivate them. He didn't have time to come up with a speech and edit it. In fact, yesterday morning I was actually thinking that a motivational speech written in a book or in a movie should be spur of the moment, an once written in the script, go unchanged, to perserve the authenticity and reality that the speech was just made or just off the top of their head. Unless the officer planned this speech beforehand, my point is moot.

The officer's name is James. James Bartana and Maria Ruspyzn. I don't know where these names come from, and I'm not entierly sure how to pronounce Ruspyzn, but there they are.

As for the speeches, I hadn't really thought about it that way, but I suppose it makes a lot of sense. In fact, it makes so much sense that I'm declaring it my official explanation.

I don't see why it's "difficult to care" about a cast of realistic and well-written characters, Q.

It's difficult to care (or at least, by me, because I'm apperently a moron who enjoys nothing but copy-pasted one-note characters who scream out the goodness or evilness of their side 24-seven and wear either white robes or black armour and that storylines can't be too well written or they'll make my brain hurt and I think anything that even remotely represents real intentions of realistic people is terrible writing because the only book I've ever read in my entire life is a Sonic The Hedgehog comic book with crayon drawings all over it) because the sides in a TOTALLY PERFECT "grey and gray" story, one in which both sides get equal coverage in the story, they're both the same.

What I mean to say is, do I read A story to see the evil, genociding, humans defeat the evil, child-raping, village pillaging, human enslaving aliens? Or visa versa? Do a read a story about the great, orphan helping, charity-donating angels take on the other great, orphan helping, charity-donating angels? See, what I'm trying to say is that I find when both sides are exactly the same level, I don't care about the outcome of it. Do I worry about how Cindy the orphan is going to die if she loses the fight between Mike the orphan who will also die if he loses.

Wow, these are pretty weird examples. :smalleek:

But it has nothing to do with how well-written and how well-rounded the characters might be. What matters is that one side is one that we want to see come out victorious, and are willing to read long walls of text to see if they do!

Now, if it was "grey against DARKER grey" then we have a greater good to route for. Both sides can have some good intentions and be interesting and all that, but one still needs to be better then the other, otherwise we (or perhaps, just me) don't really pick a side and therefore have no interest in seeing which wins and reading to find out.

Personally, a story where, say, a murdering criminal needs to step up and take out a super-villain before they commit massive genocide sounds like a pretty friggen awesome story.

I liked the show Dexter, if that helps anybody understand what the heck I'm talking about. He's a serial killer, but still is a lovable character who we know is better then the other serial killers he kills.

All of that explaination aside, and the reason I didn't give any particular examples from THIS fancomic is because I'm not reading it too closely and am trying to avoid a research failure. I, in absolutely no way at all, DISLIKE this comic or it's premise. I was simply stating an opinion about ALL perfect "grey and gray" stories as a general rule and what I like more in a story. I think I will stop commenting now, because there is absolutely no need to complain about things you don't like when everybody else clearly does like this. It's trolling, and I am not trying to do that and will not even do anything close to it anymore. Everybody, please enjoy the story.

Edit: Wow, that star wars comment came off a lot more condescending that I intended it. Sorry.

Ze Q post
I get what you're saying here.

It's fun to have somebody to root for. There is a reason 99% of fiction out there has a good guy and a bad guy. Sometimes the Bad Guy has his reasons and the Good Guy is unsympathetic, but you usually have a side you're clearly supposed to be supporting because it's fun, it makes a good story, and you get a nice happy feeling when you see evil being thwarted.

I'm not doing that here for a variety of reasons, but I don't expect everybody to like that. If I ever get to the point where I expect universal admiration and applaud for every aspect of my comic please punch me in the face.

Anyway, I'm drowning in work right now and shouldn't be wasting time on the intarnetz.

I would suppose that even though it's gray v. gray (which I think is an excellent premise) most of us have a side which we hope will win simply because of our personal preferences- I know that I certainly have a favorite.

If we took a poll, I wonder if it would split 50/50...

My prediction is that preference for the sides probably would split about 65/35 given that many Westerners seem to prefer anarchy or triumph of the "underdog" and this website apparently has a fair amount of people who live in the Western hemisphere... but who knows.

A question for the Readers.

For Rebellion Revolution I decided the best thing to do was to establish a regular update schedule, the idea being I'd build up a buffer. That didn't happen, I'd just make the comic and sit on it until Monday. For me, it's nice in some ways to know that I need it done by Monday, but not before then.

However, if I switched back to a "When I have time to get it done/feel like it" Schedual, shooting for once a week at least, there is a chance that I'll get multiple comics done per week, but it will be on a random schedule.

So, dear readers, should I stick to the Every Monday schedule, or switch to a random one?

That said, Next week is going to be a two-comic week, finishing up Chapter One: The Jackal Laughs.

After that, I have two options. Option one is to jump right into Chapter 2: The Foxhound Howls. Option Two is to provide some background, a mini chapter called "Why Things Are", that describes the recent history of The Republic of Cardinia, Talk about the Long War, what the Directorate is and why so many people hate it, It would be an Infodump in the style of the one i did for Vox Populi (for those longtime fans of BRComics), it wouldn't be more than a few strips, and I might be able to get them out on an accelerated schedule.

So, that was chapter one, what do people think? I'm looking for feedback so I know how to make future chapters better, or at the very least not worse. Do you like the way the story is progressing? Did it move too fast? Do you feel lost? Do you like the art?
This is the end of the first chapter, and with it, the stuff I've really planned out, so if you're ever going to offer opinions, nows the time.

And speaking of opinions, I'd like more than one vote concerning my question above. Do you guys want an expositionatory infodump to help provide context, or do we move straight on into chapter 2: The Foxhound Howls.

As for Naymark looking evil, well, he WAS a bloodthirsty maniac who, when he heard a peace treaty had been signed, attacked anyway, then led his troops on a bloody march against his own government. Don't believe the directorate's Lies! Because "they laugh, laugh like the jackal." (http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w27/bloddyredcommie/RebRev8p2.png). It was part of the famous aformentioned broacast

And it look like uncle Martyn is tad annoyed (or at least I assume he is, becaue getting the drop of someone like that doesn't look lke the action of someone who' in for a casual visit)

Also I liked the last comic, it gaves a bit of much needed background on the situation.

You're right about the quote, wrong about the character.
Check the Character's spoiler. Martin's hair is a different color (going prematurely gray, Years of stress, PTSD, Drug use, bad sleep, and enough mental conditions to give a psychiatrist a heart attack will do that to you), his eyes are sunken (Lack of sleep), and he has DMW (Dead Man Walking, Deathwishers were encouraged to make a joke out of Death, to think of themselves as Dead already so they would go unafraid into battle). This guy has none of those things.

Lets see if you can match them! Some of them are fairly obvious, others you will have absolutely no clue about. Feel free to back up your guesses with the wildest theories.

I take it that Elizabeth Valrine is the officer assigned to "get inside the jackal's head". I'm sure you have a personality picked out already, but its fun to speculate--- is she simply incredibly analytical, but boring. Hey Dear Reader(s). A call for help.

I decided that Maria and James need some unique outfits, at least for when they're acting in their respective capacities as the Laughing Jackal and Foxhound Alpha, I've got some ideas, but two heads are better than one.

Basically, give me any ideas you have for this, whether it's just a description, or a picture, or whatever. Throw the ideas out there, if I like yours, Cameos may occur.

So yeah, get to THINKING!

First things first; are you wanting something similar to a current outfit or have it be pretty different to the rest of the people around them?

James would have a bit harder of a time with a different getup because he's in the military still, in my opinion.

It dosn't have to be similar to a current outfit, but it should fit the setting. That is, no levitating shoulder pads or full plate armor or cyborg bits or anything. It should definitely be recognizable though, also, decently practical.

Yes James is in Uniform, but I have a feeling Foxhound division will start modifying their uniforms before long. I'd lie his new costume to have the same general feel of the uniform, but still be distinctive.

The vagueness is intentional here.

2010-04-24, 06:23 PM
James; Outfit like Mister Araneae, maybe rank pins across a pocket, tie looks more like a normal necktie, dark blue instead of dark grey, definitely get a different hat or just lose it entirely, possibly slightly new hair style.

Maria; can't think of a whole lot that's plausible, but lighter coloured or darker coloured clothing could work. Instead of the current greys, go with light greys and tan or black with some highlights possibly, like a couple light coloured stripes or bandannas, maybe a light brown/tan shirt or possibly light blue.

If I have more thoughts later, I'll post them.

Wait---- I though Maria's uncle was still alive. (From the character list at the beggining, It says hes currently on government pension). Is the List reffering to a time when he was alive, or is it because he is still alive, and Maria doesn't know it?

I like the "DMW" tattoo, which I assume means "Dead man Walking". It says the death wishers consider themselves dead, so maybe the directorate simply tells the family that they are.

nice job, I love the narrative style. Its also very interesting to see that Claude is missing an eye, It makes him look very human and "defeated". It also leaves me wondering which rebellion he was a part of and what role he had in it. Its also very funny that Maria can't go to sleep, but James can't stay awake. I also until now have felt that the rebellion has been slightly favored over the loyalists, but while the Mr. Aranea (whose name reminds me of a spider, I think that was intentional) passage leaves you with the impression he may not be a good guy, particuarly with his soldier smoking in front of a no smoking sign. its maria's passage that tells you the rebellion may not be all good.

Note: This entire chapter is going to be Romantic Comedy

I recreated an earlier scene intentionally here. I just redesigned both my main characters, and one of the biggest mistakes I made with Rob and Jack was making the comic such that somebody reading through the archives would be unable to follow it without reading the thread itself. I'm trying to avoid doing that again, so hopefully people will see James and Maria here in the same situation they first appeared in, and realize I just updated the artwork, that these are what the characters look like now.

Random Writer Thingy:

Elizabeth's Character just kind of happened when I was making these two comics. She had always been professional in my mind, but it just made sense for her to be somewhat disdainful. originally her speech was supposed to be her helpfully explaining her capabilities, showing that she knew her limitations. Then, in my head, it turned into her patronizing James and Marcus. The Offhand comment about wanting to get back to Cardinale in the last comic basically spawned the script for this one.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w27/bloddyredcommie/Rebrev33.png

I've been in a slump recently Rebellion|Revolution wise, I know what needs to happen in this chapter, and it's rather exciting stuff, yet I just spent a month on people sitting behind desks.
I'm going out of town tomorrow for a couple days, and after that I'm working for a few days straight. This means no Rebellion|Revolution for at least a week, potentially two.
Sorry about that, and I hope I can make it up to you guys.

Remember how I'm a liar?
Current Comic: James might be a little angry

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w27/bloddyredcommie/RebRev34.png

I don't know why I had James flip out like this, but it just seems right. Also, Aranea deserves it, he really does.
I might change this one around tomorrow (Tried to get away from the Desk thing as much as possible). Next comic will switch back to our merry band of Rebels, will fast forward to T: 0 Hours 23 minutes (or so), and will not feature a single desk!
Thank you for bearing with me through this incrediably boring part of the chapter. Now we get to the fun stuff (No spoilers, but I'm practicing drawing explosions)

ALSO: Apparently, it was Bastille Day recently, Considering the nature of my comic, I should have done something for that, maybe I will.

Ah well, I probably deserve it, considering it dosn't look like I'll get a comic done this week. I waited too long to get it done. I know what needs to happen, but I can't quite visualize it. I'll keep working on it, maybe get it done for Monday.
But yeah, I'm sorry. After getting back from vacation they had me working six days straight, and then I managed to not get comic stuff done on my two days off, now I'm nice and sleep-deprived (By the double logic of "I don't have work tommorow, I'm going to stay up late" and "I don't want to sleep too late, it's my day off and I don't want to sleep through my day off!"!)

Like what? They can't be that crazy.

My first theory is that they are brothers/associates and are trying to bring the two groups together for a sinister motive involving freeing a prisoner who know what the government is planning with those Aglets.

The other is that they are each moles for someone on the other side and are trying to lead the resistance into a trap and get the police of track respectively.

The last is that the one helping the Revolution is there to lead the Jackal away from her job so that they can put something in Jimmy's food or keep him from being distracted by possible romance.

Less crazy than usual it seems :smallconfused::smalltongue:

I find it odd how the spider theme is being carried around division 8. regardless of whether you support the rebellion or the revolution, division 8 seems to be the most sinister element in the story so far.

No offence, but in my opinion, the characters in that drawing look like something from the Uncanny Valley. The proportions look off, their legs are too widely spaced (they look as if they were on stilts), the line thickness appears to randomly change throughout the image, and the way you have each movable part of their arms and legs be a separate, unconnected shape makes them appear unnatural.

Just some honest criticism, don't take it personally.

I guess I'll add my opinion and just say that only the legs looked a little off to me.

Darklord Bright
2010-08-06, 05:53 PM
The "Disproportionate" thing I never really understood. I mean, the heads are large and the legs I will admit are a little wide-set, but otherwise they were based upon human proportions. The heads and faces were mostly a style choice, whereas the legs were mostly a side effect of giving people hips and there being no easy way to make close-set legs look natural with the semi-realistic bodies.

The joints, however, don't look off to me. Everything is exactly where I would expect it to be - minus that one bothersome kneecap I only noticed later - but I would be willing to see how I can at least fix the libs to make them less "off" even if I'm not seeing it myself.

But still, this wasn't about my art, it was just some friendly fanart.

Edit: ooh, I forgot the line thickness! It's actually not random - face details are 1.5, most else is 2.0, and small details like fabric folds or the cracks in the road are 1.0

erictheredd
2010-08-13, 12:13 AM
I can't help but see how the guns reflect the roles of the two leaders. Maria is the supposed leader, supposed to be the one who knows the perfect way to get things done, but apart from the raid on the radio station, she has been over shadowed by Claude, who has much more power than she does, yet nominally defers to her.

I think the organization Claude represents doesn't want to be the face of the rebellion. They know the face always gets hit the hardest, so they are setting up maria as a figure head. If she wins, they hold all the strings. If she doesn't, they fade back into the shadows where they came from, and followers of 'the jackal' join them.

Ceasar said 'the die is cast' meaning, there is no turning back. The words are significant because he was killed in the end, but the people who opposed him also lost.

though the 'die' was cast in chapter one, this comic could prove to be another boundry, where once a path is stepped onto, there is no going back

And my theory that Maria is just being used as a figure-head seems to be more and more accurate

I also appreciate showing some flaws in the Rebels, they were getting kind of scarce

Soo.... Thursday has come and gone with no comic.

Funny Story, I spent today fighting through the first big college cold of the semester (College colds are worse than normal ones) and, oddly enough, writing an essay about the French Revolution.

While for ultimate Irony (Or not, I don't think Irony is the proper word in this context) I should have been unable to do my comic about people breaking into a government run prison because I had to write about the storming of the Bastille instead of comparing and contrasting documents. The documents WERE written about the time the Bastille was stormed though.

erictheredd

my guess is that either someone rigged a bomb or T=0 is when someone finds out something.

Theories: Division 8 has a built-in bomb for the place, and when the explosion goes off, it will kill all the prisoners and some cops. The Directorate will then blame the explosion on the rebels, claiming that they care little for their own.

2) Division 8 knew they were coming and rigged the only man in the place, or at least the man who would be the easiest to find, with a bomb and it will go off, killing the officer and possibly maria's friend or the man in shades. This is an extreme and out there theory in my opinion though, and will give maria reason to be a lot more suspicious.

3) T=0 (actually, I'm getting tired of that equation, its all over my math) is when the police find an incriminating piece of evidence, for or against the directory. personally, I think it will be for. BRC is trying to make this grey vs. grey, not black vs. grey (as far as I can tell).

giving the rebels more gray, but at the same time, it starts to seperate the directorate from the "deefers".

I love Mr. Arcana's response. James does not like being kept in the dark at all. Also, I'm not sure who mentioned the line about the bomb threat, I think its Mr. A, but it could be James or a random cop. I like it best if it is Mr. A saying it though--- prompting James to hit him--- and I'm pretty sure that the div. 8 is behind this
