That's right kiddies! Get out your secret decoder rings and your Captain Forever cereal, because there's another exciting installment of your hero and mine, CAPTAIN FOREVER's adventures!

In his custom space cruiser, the good Captain seeks out the criminal scum of the galaxy, and tries to bring them to justice, but in the Forbidden Zone, he may have bit off more than he can chew!

So, yeah. Had a week before a physics class starts cutting free time something fierce, decided to LP a plotless webgame in the breathless style of a 1930s radio serial to keep up my one-a-month streak.

As for the game?

Captain Forever (http://www.captainforever.com/captainforever.php) is a sandbox space shooter where everyone's ship is made of violent legos. You try to kill the other guy, not die, and steal the parts from the other guy's ship to kill the next guy, who has way better gear than you. Sure, screenshot LPing a game with average playthroughs lasting ten minutes and no saving may be...

unorthodox, but hey. Had time to kill, and I needed a good failure to break the ego boost I got from six reasonable successes. Who knows, I might not even finish.

Questions?

Does this count as a proper Lp or not? Are you taking account the fact that you are the one lping it? Do you really think you can get away with this?

This game is difficult. I wish you proper failure on your journey.

Dunno the game, but it can't be anymore failerrriffic than Rutskarns Dwarf Fortress LP*

*said LP wasn't failerrriffic, just the actual Dwarf Fortress. Hard to LP a game with a learning wall on your second or third time ever playing. So please, no offense intended rutsky.

WHEN WE LAST LEFT OUR HERO:

His spaceship exploded into smithereens, it looked like the end for our hero! The entire sector of the galaxy had been destroyed by the fiendish Emperor Zorg, who swore that if he couldn't run the Universe, no-one would! But, at the last second:

Captain Forever:
"Glad I had this ESCAPE POD! A shame Zorg didn't feel he could resolve his problems with peaceful diplomatic talks. Still, it seems dying in an explosion of his own causing was the only way it could end. Ah, the tragedy of evil men. How IRONIC."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever1.jpg

"Nemesis project? It seems you may have confused me with someone else! Still, it seems the world is in need of heroes, and whenever it is, CAPTAIN FOREVER will be there!"

"Um. That's nice. Really, this was a general public service warning. I wasn't built to request aid in this sort of scenario. I just deliver equipment and broadcast warnings regarding disasters. Well, here's the emergency parts delivered."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever2.jpg

"Thank you, good sir! I pledge not to rest until... what problems do you have again?"

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever3.jpg

"Ah! Piracy! I pledge not to rest until this sector's piracy problem has been solved, or I die in the attempt!"

"That's nice. Sign here sir."

And so, Captain Forever begins another exciting, hair-raising adventure, alone in the forbidden zone, with only his wits to save him! Will he prevail? Will he free the region from pirates? TUNE IN TOMORROW TO FIND OUT!

I, for one, can't wait for the continued adventures of our good captain.

Interesting choice for a game, by the way. Really didn't see this coming.

When we left our hero, he had ventured out into THE FORBIDDEN ZONE in a hastily improvised combat vessel to end the threat of piracy! But, unknown to him, two pairs of villainous eyes watch his every move.

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever4.jpg

"Chee boss! It's Captain Forever!"

"Don't you think I know that, you imbecile? I would recognize the man who sent me to this forsaken corner of space no matter how long it had been!"

"But boss, it's only been a week since he sent us here. Why would..."

"Silence you fool! He's coming this way!"

"Comrade Impossible? And here I hoped you would have learned the error of your ways and became a productive member of society. Well I guess you can't have everything."

"You might not be able to, Captain Forever, but I will soon have my greatest wish: Your demise!"

"Not if I have anything to say about it!"

And the fight was on! Two against one wasn't exactly a fair fight, but when the one is CAPTAIN FOREVER , well, the fight is more unfair to his enemies!

"Curse you Captain Forever! I yield. Just bring my ship to the local constabulary."

"Good to see you being sensible, for once. I'd be glad to see you at a fair trial."

"HA HA, you fool! Minion, destroy him now!"

And the treacherous villains fired simultaneously! Only Captain Forever's lightning reflexes could have dodged a trap so cunning, and dodge they did!

"Missed me by an inch. And it looks like my new pals weren't so lucky. Such is always the fate of evil, to destroy itself. If only this sort of tragedy could be avoided."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever5.jpg

"Still, it would be a shame for valuable ship parts to go to waste. HELLO, new engine boosters!"

And so, Captain Forever became the scourge of piracy throughout the sector!

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever6.jpg

With aid from the Info bots scattered throughout the sector, he soon ruined the forbidden zone's reputation as a safe haven for piracy.

"So, sir? Can I stop broadcasting your speech on the evils of piracy? I kind of have paperwork to file, deliveries to make..."

"Of course, noble robot buddy! Just a few hours more, and you can return to your other duties. Unless, of course, you feel the craving for glory common to all of us, deep in our hearts."

"No, sir. I don't."

"Fine."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever7.jpg

"No need to thank me for the rescue, citizen. Just doing my job."

"Your job is hunting down heavily armed combat vehicles and arbitrarily destroying one?"

"No, it's the best job in the world. Keeping the world safe for a lady I call Justice."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever8.jpg

Even the mightiest cruisers in the sector were no match for Captain Forever's heroism.

But a darker threat loomed. The interstellar crime syndicate had noticed the effects of Forever's heroics, and they weren't going to sit idly by.

Will CAPTAIN FOREVER survive? OF COURSE! Will he destroy the pirates and take all their stuff for his own use? YES! Will he stop to make sure these are the pirates he's looking for? NEVER!

Actually, this is great.

(For the benefit of readers, Captain Forever's dialog is in green, info bot's dialog is in blue, and criminals are in red. Just another gift from Captain Forever to you.)

When we last left our hero, he was singlehandedly freeing a quadrant from pirate based crime.

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever9.jpg

"Egad, but that was a tough one! Some days, it hardly seems worth the effort."

"So, does that mean you're going to quit and let me go back to my paperwork, sir?"

"But then I think of the smiles on the faces of the little kiddies of the world, and it's all worthwhile."

"I'll take that as a 'No' then."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever10.jpg

Quickly, Captain Forever takes the weapons from the destroyed pirate cruiser and begins to improve his ship. No possibility is ignored for improvement, not with the safety of the sector on the line, and the result is art!

"Girder's a little off center. That's a ten dollar in this zoning area."

"Put it on my tab... WITH JUSTICE. Besides, don't you have more important crimes to be tracking?"

"]Not at the moment. Piracy rates are down enough that I can catch up on traffic regulations. There are a lot of them, by the way. I could recite them for you..."

"No time, little buddy! The universe awaits!"

Unknown to Captain Forever, so do several high priced mercenaries! His heroics have attracted the wrong kind of attention, and it seems he will be expected to pay...

WITH HIS LIFE!

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever11.jpg

"So, Captain Forever. There's a bounty with your name on it, and I aim to collect."

"I had no idea missing a parking ticket could be so strictly punished. Well, none of us are above the law, I suppose. I'll come quietly."

"You don't get it, do ya? It's about the piracy you're stopping. Some very influential people don't like that. President Beeblebrox has even been talking about making this sector a park recently! A park! We can't be having that, so you'll need to bite it."

"Well, we'll see about that, criminal!"

And so the fight began, raw courage and skill versus the deadliest weapon systems ever invented! Forever came closer to holding his own than any man had a right to, but even he, in the end, is merely human, and his ship is mere metal and plastic. Soon...

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever12.jpg

The ship is almost destroyed! Is this the end of Captain Forever?

Tune in tomorrow to find out!

Question. Do you have the Captain Forever Project?

Answer: No, sadly.

Eventually I'm planning on it, but with pressing minor fiscal worries (and a lot of money spent on the steam sale before I found out about this) I'm sticking with the free version for now.

When we last left our hero, he was in a fight to the death with one of the galaxy's deadliest killers! It seemed he was doomed, and the galaxy would lose one of its greatest heroes.

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever13.jpg

But wait! What's this?

"Good thing I had this escape pod! Boy, that was a narrow escape."

Captain Forever lives! The galaxy still has a chance at freedom from oppression.

"Still, I can't let those villains get away with it Even with this little ship, I need to stop their plans."

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever14.jpg

"Captain Forever! We thought those bounty hunters would have finished you off!"

"Sorry to disappoint, gents, but I'm still here!"

"Then we'll need to kill you ourselves!"

"You're welcome to try."

And the fight was on! Forever wasn't holding back now, what with the galaxy depending on him. Every second could be his last, but he held on. And soon, the fight was his

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever15.jpg

"Whew. That certainly was a tough fight, but now the galaxy is safe from crime gangs. I just wish there was another way."

"There might be, Captain."

"Oh?"

"YOUR DEATH!"

http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/chiasaur11/Forever16.jpg

The treacherous ambush took half the shields off in a second! Could this be the end for our hero? Could this be the end of Captain Forever?

I'll be darned. It is.

Anyone need a narrator?

Well, I only just went to play it and figure out how it works. So far I've established that the color ranks the 'power' of a part. Also that those ships with the module, and then pink/red/blue behind and in front, but not to either side, are a godsend.

How does the 'Law: **** ' thing work? It seems to change and flash occasionally, but I can't tell what it does. (I have a sneaking worry it's like the stars in Grand Theft Auto...).

Oh, right, Chia, can we turn this into a general CAPTAIN FOREVER!!! thread?

chiasaur11

Of course, don't mind at all.

Law indicates the best ship you've downed. Higher it gets, the tougher enemies get and the better loot gets.

So, yeah.

Reduce your ship to the core and a booster.

Maneuver into gaps in the firing line.

Shoot the core.

Loot.

Then get two higher level ships to try to kill you at once, and dodge between.

Sometimes works, and they back off when a ship any amount of levels above you explodes. Even if you didn't do it.

Well, that DOES work, so does looking around for the weakest design of ship I can find. (Though they start to get scarce after pink/early blue).

Got my highest this time, got two whites to destroy each other. Highes I got was light blue, and I got demolished by the rainbow ones. I also got one (1) white component, and engine. Made me happy. Best thing I've gotten.

Also, teal scatter-laser. Awesome.
