Your question is most perplexing. Are you referring to:

The ancient black dragon on the last panel on d and panels 2-3 on e?


or are you asking about the stats of the giant crab they encounter in d that doesn't show up at all in e?

While Gargantuan or Huge crabs aren't in the MM, they are in Stormwrack. And MM3 has a variant that can be ridden inside, used by sea races in war as a transport.

The one in DStP has three sets of claws, making it look a bit different from a "standard monstrous crab"

You talking about the shape that scared of the crab that attacked Elan and Lien? That’s no crab.

That’s the Ancient Black Dragon while it was watching the Azure City fleet, waiting for a chance to get back at V. Hence the whole bit in Rich’s commentary about it being foreshadowing. It wouldn’t be foreshadowing if it was just a shape that never appeared again.

Not that this whole thread shouldn't be spoilered, but just in case:



I'm fairly certain that the outline that scares away the crab that attacks Elan and Lien is the Adult Black Dragon that eventually attacks Varsuvius.

The Giant says that he decided not to include this section because he didn't want the speculation to actually be right. This seems to indicate that he didn't want people to guess that the outline is the ABD. Which is much more likely had the forumers seen it with a couple weeks to discuss possibilities.

Actually, it is a crab. A Shadow Crab. ;)

And OP, your opening question makes no sense. It's not that we don't know what strip you're referring to, it's that the question "Who can determine the Gargantuan Crab" isn't a sentence. Did you mean "Who guessed what it is?"
