CRIMSON DRAGON

http://smergel.com/friends/character53.jpg

My blood burns with the fire of dragons. Soon yours will too.

Those with a mastery of draconic breath weapons have always instilled awe and fear in those around them. While many are content to simply breathe the dragon's flame, some seek more. And, on the very precipice of death, they find it. Mixing their own mortal blood with the dragon's flame, they find a mixture of mortality and immortality that is truly a terror to behold.

Weapon Proficiencies: No new armor or weapon proficiencies.

Spellcasting: At every level, you gain spellcasting as if you had gained a level in a spellcasting class you had before joining the class.

Blooded Breath (Ex): By using a small amount of blood when using his breath weapon, the Crimson Dragon makes it all the more potent. Crimson lines swirl in the billows, and the breath weapon seems thicker, as if bound together by the blood. The Crimson Dragon does an amount of damage to himself to add blood for this ritual. This action is a part of the breath weapon's action. For every 3 damage he does to himself for this, he may increase the DC of his breath weapon by 1.

Breath Weapon: Every even level, the Crimson Dragon's breath weapon increases in damage another 1d6 damage.

Breath Effect: Select a Breath Effect that you qualify for from the Dragonfire Adept's breath effect list. Consider your character level to be your Dragonfire Adept level for the purposes of breath effects you qualify for.

Scorching the Lifeblood (Su): A creature that fails its save against and takes damage from a Crimson Dragon's breath weapon continues to take damage equal to 1/2 the Crimson Dragon's breath weapon damage every round on its turn for 1d4 rounds.

Accelerant Blood (Ex): The Crimson Dragon's breath weapons have gained a taste for blood, and become more potent for it. If a target of your breath weapon has taken damage previously that round, all numeric effects of your breath weapon are increased by one-half. Saving throws and opposed rolls are not affected, nor are breaths without random variables.

Improved Blooded Breath (Ex): For every three points you increase the DC of your breath weapon, it's effects also increase by one step. (i.e if the breath weapon does damage, increase the damage by 1d6. If it has an effect measured in rounds, increase the duration one round.)

Crimson Immolation (Su): One man falls, and his life blood spills to the ground around him. Flames burst from the dripping blood, coursing into the Crimson Dragon, who directs the blood red flames into another unfortunate victim. If a foe has died previously in a round where the Crimson Dragon is still able to act, he may, once per encounter as an immediate action, consume the body in a pillar of flames, and direct the fire to strike another foe. The Crimson Dragon may target one square with this ability, which does damage equal to the fallen creature's full HP. If the target succeeds on a reflex save, DC equal to your breath weapon DC, he takes only half damage. This attack ignores fire resistance, and does half damage to creatures immune to fire. The body that spawned the ability is utterly destroyed, leaving nothing behind.

The class abilities section of the table needs to have "Bloodied Breath" replace "Class Ability" at first level.

Does the capstone allow a save or require a to-hit roll or something? Even if it does, that may be over powered. Also, do all Dragon-fire adepts use fire? I wouldn't know, but I would think some of them would use cold or acid or whatever.

You need to specify if it leave enough ash for Ressurection, also, do you HAVE to pick a target? What if you just want to burn the body without hitting another square with the fire?

All Dragonfire Adepts start with a fire breath weapon, but learn other breath effects including frost and lightning and whatnot.

Capstone should probably allow a save. Admittedly, I have no idea how OP it would be at the point where you get it. I'd need to look at monster HPs around that level. I'd say if you just wanted to torch the body, then you could target the same square with the fire, y'know, extra crispy.

The capstone is very powerful, seeing as it's basically a no save "you die" to one other person whenever you kill them... and then you can kill them again. Basically, in any fight with massive numbers of mooks, once the first one dies it's either going to be A: a free death to one of them each round, as an immediate action so you can interrupt anything they try to do, or B: a significant amount of damage to the BBEG while his mooks get slaughtered by AoE SoD spells and he takes extra damage on top.

Think you can only target 1 corpse per round, so AoE vs mooks might not be the best way to start it off.

3/day and Reflex for half would probably be good places to start, none the less...

Another solution would be to make the crimson fire a disintegrate effect; that way if the crimson fire kills someone outright you can't use that to fuel another crimson flame.
