This is the thread for all of us to express our desire for physical possessions.

I shall go first: the Fuzzhugger(fx) Ab-synth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSmIyEGMcx8). Warning: may make small children cry, and other people in the room throw stuff at you.

A bank account that only I can access, with about $1 billion USD in it. That way, me and mine need never worry for anything ever again, and can pursue our true dreams.

That's really not the theme of the thread though. I might take a library with every 3.5 compatible D&D book ever printed in it. That'd be nice.

Now that's it's 2010, I've pretty much made peace with the idea that we will not have hoverboards in five years. But that won't stop me from getting this hat (http://www.ccgarmory.com/batofumahatr.html)!

And if I can't find shows that automatically fasten when you put your foot in them, I'll bloody well invent the things myself. Waterproofing them will be the only hard part.

Waterproof shoes? I'd so buy those. Make them running shoes too. :smallcool: Then make them last forever! :smalltongue:

. . .And if I can't find shoes that automatically fasten when you put your foot in them, I'll bloody well invent the things myself. Waterproofing them will be the only hard part.

I've seen that footage! They fastened around the foot like an alligator clip, didn't they? (Given that I just called it an alligator clip, we're talking about something 'way back in the '80s, aren't we?) There's elasticated men's shoes available now for a snug fit without lacing, but those still involve bending down to pull them onto your feet. . .you know, I shall be following these thoughts with interest.

A sharpened pencil with an eraser that never dies. That would be a divine gift to me. Seriously. I go through four erasers to the pencil.

I looked up "eraser crimp" to see if someone's figured out a way to remove and replace those worn-down erasers on non-mechanical pencils. I found a series of impassioned pencil blogs. These people who dissect pencils may have found a way, but you're still probably better off just developing a preference for mechanical pencils, with replaceable erasers. If nothing else, the top of a mechanical won't gouge your paper and desktop the way that metal loop--excuse me, I can feel the blogs tut-tutting at my inaccuracy, ferrule--carves a furrow whenever you forget and try to erase with it.

I never tear my paper with normal pencil. I hate mechanical pencils...they don't let me curve any letters like I want to. I write like a girl with good handwriting. :smallamused:

It's really too bad I lost that eraser from art class in 8th grade. That would come in handy. It's one of those black/grey erasers that you can fold, bend, rip, put together, etc. forever and still erase with.

or you could ya know, stop making mistakes. just kidding brotozoan. i was about to suggest that you look into separate erasers, but then you have the opposite problem, an eraser out lasting your pencils :smallfrown:

edit: oh! rubber putty! that stuff is fairly inexpensive and available at art supply places.

:smalleek: Sweet. I know what it's called now, so I can just walk in and find it!

I make a lot of mistakes, I know. They often happen to be written in dark pencil marks too.

Temotei221 you're likely to find it with drawing supplies, among pencils, charcoal and the like. they're also called kneaded erasers. good luck.

Quincunx
2010-02-05, 03:41 AM
Ohmigosh, how'd I forget the existence of kneaded rubber! Hours of fun! That might've just been oxygen deprivation from the funky fumes though. Stuff doesn't smell like the usual eraser rubber. It leaves different interesting track-marks on your paper if the rubber picks up too much graphite, but then you can pinch off the dirty bits and discard them.

My mindless material lust has moved on to the truly unjustifiable, in the range of $100/yard:
cashmere/angora blended fabric to pet and love and name George
painted couture silk to drape as home décor
an unlimited budget at Spoonflower (http://www.spoonflower.com) and my avatars re-drawn with vector graphics for scalability
and a case of silk thread (which my sewing machine would probably refuse to sew with. it's persnickety)

Semi-realistic:
A Macbook Pro
1975 Black Trans Am with a blue hoodbird
A cheap apartment in NYC (ok, ok, I know...not realistic at ALL)

Not the least bit realistic:
A zeppelin (Oz is determined that, should we get enough money, we will one day own a zeppelin)
A Koenigsegg CCXR Edition (so so so pretty...WANT!)
Actually, any of the Koenigsegg models...
A house in: where I live now, NYC, Italy (Northern), Australia, and maybe LA. (the first location is taken care of...it's the other 4 that are likely not going to happen, lol)

Realistically? DnD books. I've never had any of my own, since they are damn hard to get around here. My own house. Enough money to pay for that house. Tons of toys of pretty much any variety. Oh, and I wish I had never sold my Legos in a moment of weakness and a teenage case of "I'm too old for that now".

Unrealistically? Conjoiner implants and a starship.

How would these two interact?

Hilariously, right up until the point that the universe bluescreened.

As for me, I want a trenchcoat, a top hat, and a computer drawing tablet on the realistic side, and on the fantasy side an unlimited supply of money that can only be used on taxes, food, shelter, utilities, and internet bills.

On second thought, I wish that everyone had that last one.

When I become a millionaire, I will help make this dream come true. So long as I can be your sidekick.

For me? A laptop that never has problems or breaks down, as well as having infinite programs for infinite purposes, each of which was incredibly easy to use to maximum effieciency. Also the same qualities in both a digital camera and a video camera. And one of those gold cards that lets you fly for free.

A massive estate and a Lordship would suit me just fine as well. Or maybe I could settle for the crowns of eastern European countries bereft of their rightful monarchs. I'd just bring over an Anglophone aristocracy to help me impose rule over them so that I wouldn't need to become fluent in many languages.
