Spring 1901

Something is rotten in the continent of Europe. Something is wrong. No one is quite sure when it happened. A Frenchman traveling in Italy got news of things happening in Italy that simply weren't, but who knew how long after the Change that was. Fortunately, it was peacetime, for the moment, or things really might have gotten chaotic. Still, no one knew "when", but the question of "what", had been solved.

There were two Europes. Inexplicably, impossibly, there were two, complete with duplicates of every state. These "doppelgangers" as they came to be known, these ghostly doubles were eerily similar, though for an unknown reason, the leaders' doppelgangers, while looking the same, had different names.

And then Europe heated up. War had been coming before the Change and it wasn't to be stopped. Fortunately, each leader had found someone they could stand by, some leader who they could trust. One voice in many made complete sense and seven alliances were formed, seven pacts made.

But as war drew nearer, no one really knew what victory even meant, because the biggest question of all was which was the original Europe and which the double.

two countries that have been enemies for a long, long time.

No, that was totally the *other* germany that was enemies with your russia. :smallwink:

To be absolutely clear to everyone, by the way: your two countries are separate. You may not forsake a build in one to build in another. You *may* dislodge one country's units from the other. Etc.

The French and the Turkish are ready to go, just as soon as we figure out how we ended up together. I know...

Turkey and France Form Anti-Hackneyed Puns Union

"We're just so sick of people thinking "Turkish Delights" every time they think of Turkey. We've done other things! We fought off the crusades, invented the Lateen sail, and made lots of advances in mathematics! Knock it off already!"

The French Ambassador echoed the Turkish sentiment, "And we do things other than drink wine and surrender. I mean, come on, the Franco-Prussian war could have gone better, but its not like we've lost two world wars or anything. Give us a break."

The FaTAHPU claims that "Our governments are united in their determination to take all necessary measures to root out puns, and destroy stereotypes in the modern world".

Turkey and Austria: Wait, shouldn't we be fighting bitterly to the death?

In a moment of utter confusion today, Turkey and Austria entered into an alliance rather than attempting to kill each other over the Balkans. Mainly because the Balkans that this specific Turkey and Austria are neighboring are thousands of miles away from each other.

One would think it to be a lot simpler to just call them different things. But that leads to even more confusing thoughts, like which one should keep the name the Balkans. Perhaps there should be a war between the two regions to determine that.

On top of that, why are there multiple nations with the same name? Why is France 1 number 1 and France 2 number 2? The world we live in is a major headache.

Well, the story is that there's still two sets of orders outstanding. In future turns, I'd just NMR them, but for the first turn, I prefer to make sure we have orders, since if we have to move onto replacements, they would be pretty crippled by a first turn NMR. This does mean a slight delay, my apologies.

Unfortunately for Irritable the Enlightened we already have 2 backups lined up. If I don't hear from people, we should have no trouble getting going quickly, though we might lose a week.

Those who haven't submitted orders have until Tuesday at 10pm EST to avoid being kicked out.

fellow diplomats, if we could be sure to put the numbers immediately after the province names in the future, that would be wonderful. jDip won't interpret them correctly if there's a space between them.

For example, tun1 is good, where bla 2 is bad. It'll just make everyone's lives easier. Way quicker to adjudicate all at once instead of going through and reformatting the orders or putting them in by hand.

Thanks!

Four-Fleet Pileup in Both Black Seas!

In a strange bit of coincidence, it seems that the Turks and the Russians hate each other no matter what dimension they call home. In an "unprecedented" and "historic" occasion, all four powers seem to want to control the Black Sea.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before," said Kommandant Tempestuous the Sage. "Fleets bouncing around like ping-pong balls in the Black Sea? It's never happened! Ever!"

"It's been a long time since the people of Norway and Sweden were free from the tyrannical rule of the Vikings," said Foreign Minister Viggo Viggovich. "We really don't like Vikings. We're Packers fans, to tell you the truth. Or the Red Wings. Really all about the Red Wings. Sergei Federov is our national hero. But what we do like is freedom. And we're going to do our best to spread that freedom to our neighbors and their vaguely phallic countries."

Russian Admiral Falls for Ruse. Sultan: "Booya."

New Turkish Fleet in Ankara Completes its Only Relevant Order

"Well, that was a fun 6 months," remarked the admiral of the fleet. He then points to his orders for the next year, written on the back of a napkin that had been folded into a paper airplane. "PARTY!!!" written in big red letters, with an obvious ring from the bottom of a beer mug overlaid across it.

"Its a good thing, too, because I hear the Black Sea is really crappy in winter. It sucks to be the first fleet-- having to actually go to sea."

Balkans2 are Getting All... Splodgey

"Its just completely gross," remarked a noted French political historian, "Historically the Balkans are a hard, unforgiving hellscape of war and hatred. Now, with Italy and Russia cooperating entirely, and Austria sitting around being mushy, the whole thing could start being a morass of peace, love and understanding. Also, an army exporter."

First off, I will say I totally did not see this season playing out like this, not that I am complaining. Diplomacy moves never cease to surprise me.

German Gazette -
Underground resistance in Holland overthrow English invaders! Who new that the Dutch had it in them, let us just hope that the Danes prove to be as loyal. Russians find themselves in an early winter, all their troops seem frozen in place, maybe they will thaw come spring. Austrian forces miraculously hold their territory verses hostile invasion forces. It seems they do better without a leader. England steps into the Ruhr, that is a long way from home, I hope they know what they are doing, actually we don't. In a formal statement the Kaiser has declared; "France, will you please just leave us alone you are becoming quite a vexation."

French Flyer -
French President continues to deny existing of "other" Europe despite a strong showing of Italian 1 forces in the nearby Piedmont. England and Russia strengthen ties through an unprecedented foreign exchange program. I wonder if we could interest England with a similar country swap? Maybe we'll just step into London and ask the Prime Minister himself. Bulletin to Italy2 those are not our forces approaching your soft European Underbelly, at least I don't think they are, they claim to be French though so who knows.

My apologies for the delay. In case it comes up again, by the way, I'm fine with late orders as long as you inform me of why you can't get them in on time, ahead of time. By which I mean, I can always push back deadlines at player's request. Please do request this though, so I know.

German Fleet Accidentally Sails Into Belgium!

Maldiem
2010-04-03, 12:37 AM
Accidental Taking of Belgium Contagious!

It seems that its catching, and disease experts in France today declared that they'd discovered the virus responsible-- the insidious bug causes generals and admirals to bark "INVADE BELGIUM", until collapsing and bleeding through their ears. The scientists named it Prussian Syndrome, because though the first case was clearly among French admirals, the alternate Germans first brought it to worldwide attention.

"Yes." Remarked one French diplomat, explaining the actions in London, "Totally that. It was definitely a virus that did it."

French Troops Liberate Duplicate Italy, Remove Giant Grey Specks

"They were everywhere!" explained a French demolition team, "just all over the landscape in some freaky grid pattern. Its especially weird because that's the only way we can tell duplicate Italy apart from the real thing! Its like someone wanted to be able to tell each Italy apart from very, very high up in the air! Good job we blew them all up."

Large Sections of World 2 Experience Civil Disorder!

It looks like the "other" world, as French and Turkish diplomats have come to calling it, has experienced an existential crisis. Perhaps this is linked with the giant grey boulders peppering the landscape, which, no doubt, interfere with agriculture and economic functions a great deal. When asked for comment, a French general said, "Don't worry, world 2, we're coming to clear away the boulders!"
