Well, I'm going to be taking the exam to work on the U.S. Census later today.

Having been basically unemployed the last few months I'm a bit nervous. I aced the practice exam, but I'm still a bit nervous. Anyone have any advice for me?

I applied for a census job, thinking it was over the summer. My parents got a call last friday, telling them that the census people wanted me to start work on monday. Unfortunetally, I still have a couple more months of college to go.

I'm way past that part of the show. We're to the "I believe in myself. I'm not my bro, I'M ME! GOLENTAN THE PENCIL PUSHER!!!" *Cue musical number*

@BRC: Having taken the test any words of wisdom? (I'm panicking now because I can't find my passport).

It's not very complicated stuff. Find your passport/whatever proper documentation you are bringing. It's mainly basic Math/Logic type stuff. If you did well on the practice exam, you will do fine on the actual exam.

The exam is easy, Make sure you take your passport; or a state ID (drivers licence) and your SS card. I had to do this even with having a military ID (which has my SSN on it), and a driver's licence.

If you're smart enough to work these forums, you should do very well on the test.

The test is more to eliminate people with no grasp of basic logic/math/reading, rather then show you as being smart or qulaified. I really wouldnt worry about it.

If your that concerned go to Barnes & Nobles or equivilant and take a practice exam in one of the books they sell for government jobs.

Perhaps more importantly, make sure you bring your documents! The census job is basically canvassing... any one can do it. They just dont want criminals or complete rejects out there knocking on doors.

Whatever you do, don't say ANYTHING about the voices.

Nifty! Hope you are paid enough to cover the costs of travel.

I would stand up and let myself be counted but the census doesn't seem to reach overseas. . .

Just remember you will be unemployed again in a few months.

A few months of employment is better than no employment. I'd take it.

But he shouldn't look at it as permanent employment.

I'm not. I'm looking at it as a good thing to be doing.

I am happy to report that I just got the call offering me an actual enumerating position with the Census. And I just got a ratty old 100% with no bonus points at all, so you are golden.

I just got the same call. I'm ecstatic! 8 weeks of employment, starting in a month and a half. Gives me breathing room if nothing else.
