The Iditarod Sled Dog Race just started here in Alaska. I was wondering if it is only followed here or if it gets any coverage in the rest of the US or world. If your interested or do not know what the Iditarod is, you can find the website and current standings here (http://www.iditarod.com/).

I'm pretty sure it's broadcast on television. I don't watch it, but that's mostly because I don't watch TV...or sports. Put them together and you have something I never do. :smalltongue:

I'm pretty sure I've seen it on before, but like the previous guy, I tend to avoid sports channels. :smallwink:

It does get to the rest of us down south of y'all though. :)

The Iditarod and the entire dog-sled sport got a major upswing in popularity last year in Norway due to a short television program showing the race from two norwegian competitors, Lars Monsen and some other man I can't remember the name of. Surprisingly there has been almost complete silence about it this year which has forced me to go online for news about this incredibly demanding sport.

I should see if the Norwegian foreign exchange student watches the race. :smallcool:

I actually know quite a bit about the Iditarod myself. It's a fascinating and rigorous race, to say the least. Of course, I don't watch sports, or television, much like the others, so I never actually watch the race. That's why I read a book by a writer who decided to partake.:smallwink:

EDIT: Also, I quite like the word Nowegian. It's fun to say. And it has the word "Whee!" in it, which is always a good thing.
...Yeah, that comment was totally irrelevant.

I DO!

My Dad has been a big Sebastian Schnuelle (http://www.iditarod.com/race/race/musher/racemusher_175.html) fan since he started out several years ago. Now he's in 10th place. Go Sebastian! He has the best hairdo evah.

Yeah, standing behind a team of dogs who run for miles must be really demanding. :smalltongue:

Actually... it can be.

Read up on some mushing history. Some of those mushers are completely dedicated to their dogs, and endure hardships on their behalf.
