Is this out of line for a superior weapon:
+3 proficiency, d8, one-handed, versatile, spear/heavy blade

The image I'm looking for is a 4' shaft with a 2.5' sword blade at the end of it, and a counterweight at the back side.

Basically, it is a long sword that also counts as a spear.

Sounds to me like you are describing a slightly shorter version of a Glaive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaive) or Naginata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naginata), and if more axe-like a Bardiche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bardiche), or if more cleaver-like a Voulge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voulge). I would imagine this form of a weapon having very similar stats to a 4E Glaive but one-handed and therefor lower damage (I can't remember if the Glaive is in the PHB, haven't looked at 4E in a while).
