View Full Version : Solo Game - The Island

General Fluff:

It's a massive island, surrounded by lava, with a huge pit in the centre, that nobody's ever got to the bottom of, as they often never come back out of the pit. It is split into several zones.

The North is where civilization is starting to establish itself, where most cities are independent, with many alliances, some of which are starting to create true countries. The North has a temperate climate, and many rivers and lakes, and is the main source of food and water to the rest of the island.

The East, however, is desert, but has many ancient ruins around it. There aren't many settlements there, but the kobolds have many expansive lairs there, as there are many minerals under the sands. Gnomes have also started to settle, generally around the ruins, as they investigate. These settlements attract many mercenaries, as the gnomes always need protection, and the settlements are often places of conflict, as the ruins have many secrets, and they seem to mostly be bad. For the gnomes, at least.

The Central Zone is mostly uninhabited by humanoids, as it is the realm of the aberrations. Huge Illithid cities have been reported by the few who return from there with their minds intact, and many phasms have been reported to have spread out of the Zone. It is reported to be very changeable, with an area being a forest one day, and a lake the next. The only settlements there are sparse research camps, with the largest by the Pit, which is theorized to be the cause of the strangeness of the Central Zone. However, many have not been heard from for weeks.

The West is a huge forest, mostly unexplored, even by the inhabitants, who stay near the edges of the forest. It is where most types of natural creatures live, and also where most of the other zones get their creatures that they use in the sporadic wars that occur.

The South is separated from the rest of the world by a large, wide chasm, from one side of the island to the other, and all attempts at teleporting in have failed, as it seems to be secure against all methods of entry. Sometimes, being resistant to fire have tried to enter via the lava, although they never return. One place along the chasm, in the Central Zone, seems to be a major city of some creature or other, although nobody really knows. The chasm is also patrolled by unknown creatures, nicknamed Hellspawn, which fly around the chasm, killing any who try to fly across. The South has many rumours about it, from some saying it is where the gods live, to others which say that the Pit is the only way in.

The situation:

Your and your sister have been staying in the Northern city of Kenthalus, where Litra lives, mostly sustaining yourselves due to his income as the son of a noble. You have heard about a network of magi that supply the city with magic items, both the law and the underworld. You know one of their people regularly visits a certain tavern. At the moment, you are in your room in Litra's house, which is in the grounds of Hilan Manor, which is owned by Litra's father, Freyn Hilan. Litra is up in the main house with his father, for reasons unknown to you, while your sister had left the house a few hours ago, and also didn't tell you where she was going.

OOC: So we doing this traditional tabletop first person, or PBP third?

Also, do I know when he visits this bar?

OOC: So we doing this traditional tabletop first person, or PBP third?

Also, do I know when he visits this bar?

OOC:Not too fussed. You decide which way.

Oops, forgot to say. His next visit should be in 1-2 hours.

Oron decides to visit this bar tavern and get a feel for it before the man arrives.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 04:28 PM
The tavern is in the Pit Side, well known for being where the dregs of society gather. The tavern itself, called the Demon's Chalice, is very dim, only lit by a few lanterns scattered around, hanging from the ceilings. There are a few empty tables, and some unoccupied stools by the bar.

Oron makes his way to a table to watch the crowd.

After a while, a hooded figure sits down opposite you, and whispers "Hey, you wanna buy some Devilweed? Best around!"

Oron remembers that Devilweed is a local drug, made from dried leaves from a wyssin plant, and is smoked like tobacco. It slightly impairs judgement and makes smokers skittish and easily confused, but gives a small surge in strength.

Perhaps. What price?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 04:42 PM
"Price? Cheap, my friend. 5 gold a spliff!"

Jallorn

One to smoke. Google it.

Perhaps not then, perhaps you can find another customer.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 04:53 PM
"Suit yourself. Hey, Skalf."

A dwarf sits in another chair on your table.

"Hey, Bones. You got what I requested?"

"Ahh, yes. Very hard to get, but here you are."

The hooded figure, Bones, reaches into his cloak, pulling out a vial with a thick, black liquid in it.

"One vial of agony. That'll be 200 gold pieces."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 04:59 PM
Wait, you sell other things as well? What else exactly?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 05:04 PM
"Oh, a variety of things. Some material components which enhance your magic, like that liquid pain I sold, to poisons, to some of the more standard things. You'll have to let me know what you want first, as I generally only bring pre-ordered things or minor items."

The dwarf gets up.

"Well anyway, Bones, thanks for the agony. You're still trying to source a Karras Stone Knife for me, right?"

Bones replies "Yeah, yeah. Hard to find, though. And, you still haven't paid me."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 05:07 PM
Mind if I ask how you usually acquire items?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 05:27 PM
"I have.....connections. Let's leave it at that."

While you were talking, the dwarf had tried to sneak away.

"Hey, Skalf? I can see you there. Give me the payment. Now."

"Hmm...how about no?"

"You sure talk tough, don't you?"

The dwarf pulls out a handaxe.

"Well, I have backup!"

He tries to attack Bones, but it goes through the cloak untill it it thuds into something.

"Bad move, Skalf. Don't attack people you know nothing about."

"What the...but still, you're unarmed!"

"Hehehe, really?"

Bones takes off the leather gloves he was previously wearing, showing a fleshless, clawed hand.

"Now, pay me and I won't have to bring the organization into this."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 05:37 PM
Oron manifests an eldritch blast, a green ball of energy, looking faintly like fire, but doesn't use it, instead holding it near the dwarf's head, You also don't know that I know where to throw in my chips.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 05:39 PM
The Dwarf whimpers "All right! All right! I'll pay! Here you go!"

He throws a bag onto the table, which jingles with the sound of gold.

"Thanks, kid. Now, if you'll keep him there while I check the cash, I'll give you 10%."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 05:43 PM
Keep the 10%, you're someone I want to be on the good side of, as he says this, Oron lifts his sickle from his belt, bringing it to the dwarf's neck. If the dwarf is still holding the handaxe, he confiscates it.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 05:45 PM
"Hehehe, thanks kid."

After about 10 seconds after starting, Bones stops counting and looks up at you.

"It's all there. In platinum, too. You can let him go if you like."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 05:48 PM
And if I don't feel like it? Oron chuckles but then releases the dwarf anyway. I'm a bit short on gold, but I'd like some protective magic items. Any advice?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 05:49 PM
"Hmm....the organization may be interested in you. I'm leaving now, if you want to know more, come with me."

He rises out of his seat and walks out.

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 05:53 PM
Oron decides to follow Bones, sticking the handaxe into his belt and the sickle back on it's loop.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 05:57 PM
Bones leads you through twisting alleys, before stopping, looking around, and then whispers something to himself, then removes his cloak. He looks like a normal skeleton, although is intelligent, as you have seen. He bends down and opens a hatch, before dropping down into the sewers.

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 05:59 PM
Oron follows Bones, mostly unaffected by this new revelation.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 06:03 PM
Down in the sewers, you can start to see stranger things than you saw up in the surface. Creatures run past in the corner of your eye, things that don't look like anything you've seen before.

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 06:07 PM
Where are we going?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 06:12 PM
"To my outpost. There, we can get in contact with the Organization, as the operation here is minor, so we have nobody of status here."

He looks to the right, as one of those things you can't make out runs past again.

"They are Kythons. Down here, keep to the marked tunnels, we have protections against them. However, stray outside the marked tunnels, and you are fair game. We don't have problems, as we're undead, but you....are not, so keep your eyes and ears open at all times, OK?"

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 06:14 PM
Sounds like fun for another day. Also, I presume that you were barely, if at all, hurt by the dwarf, but I can heal you if you'd like.

OOC: Any reaction to my offer?

I'm typing up the post as we speak.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 06:42 PM
"Nah, I'm fine. Anyway, we're here."

It is a small room, reached from the sewers by a stone door in the wall, camouflaged. There are several other skeletons around, noticably a group of 4 skeletons, which seems to be training in combat. Boxes are scattered around, some open. They contain a wide variety of things, from weapons and armour to poisons and potions.

"They are our warriors, and all the boxes are stuff we have stockpiled to sell. Anyway, time to take you over to the boss-man."

He leads you through another secret door, and this opens into a room with a wooden desk, various items from different occult practices are placed around the room and, sitting on a chair by the desk, is a human. At least, it looks like it was a human, as now he has dry, pale, withered, papery skin and dull white lifeless eyes. He reads from a book of some kind or other untill Bones knocks on the table.

"Sir, here's somebody I'd like you to meet. He helped me out when a customer decided not to pay, and is willing or more work, from what he's said."

The ex-human looks at you, and then speaks.

"Really? Thank you, Bones. You may leave."

"Sir." Bones leaves.

"So, do you want to start work with our Organization?"

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 06:46 PM
Probably, it looks very interesting. I would like more information before I sign any sort of contract though.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 06:58 PM
"We of the Organization know how much money is important to the world. Control the money, and so the economy, and you control the world. So, we are spread throughout the island, mostly up here in the North, to slowly reach that goal. Many, however, do not join because of that overlying target. Many join because of opportunities. We can obtain item easily, so we are the main source of resources for most non-officials. However, we all still work for individual profit, so don't expect something for nothing."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 07:03 PM
So what would my job be?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 07:10 PM
"Your job? Nothing in particular, just any commissions that come up. You know, retrieving things, delivery, etcetera. Also, you can buy and sell through the Organization."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 07:12 PM
Then my answer is yes. When can I start?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 07:14 PM
"OK, gimme a sec."

After rooting around in a desk drawer, the man pulls out a large tome, and opens it to an empty page.

"Alright, time to get you down in the book. Let's see....name?"

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 07:17 PM
Oron... Deathbringer, Oron is clearly still uncertain about his last name, but he says it with certainty when he finally does say it.

OOC: BBL, dinner.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 07:19 PM
"Deathbringer, you say....that's slightly familiar....anyways, next we have role. So that's Hireling....then age?"

OOC: Alright then.

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 07:30 PM
Er... sixteen.

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 08:30 PM
"Hehe, of course you are."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 08:43 PM
So? Anything else?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 08:46 PM
"Nope. Thing is, we don't really care about things like beliefs, you see."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 08:50 PM
So any jobs need doing?

Volthawk
2010-05-02, 08:59 PM
"Jobs? No, not today. Bones already took care of it today."

Jallorn
2010-05-02, 09:00 PM
I'll stop by tomorrow then, Oron leaves the sewer and heads back to Litra's home.

Volthawk
2010-05-03, 04:13 AM
As you are walking back, you see Kenthalian soldiers swarming the area, all entering the sewers.

"Alright, people! Time to destroy this 'Organization'! Today, we end this!" the Sergeant yells. He is standing in the central plaza, with several Shock Troopers around him.

Shock Troopers are recruited from the larger, monstrous races in Kenthalus, and are trained to be unstoppable juggernauts, heavily armoured and taking advantage of their superior size.

Behind you, you hear a familiar voice.

"Well, looks like it's time for us to move on, kid."

Jallorn
2010-05-03, 05:17 PM
Has anyone noticed Oron?

Volthawk
2010-05-05, 01:42 PM
Has anyone noticed Oron?

No, everyone is paying attention to the soldiers.

Jallorn
2010-05-05, 02:13 PM
Have any of the soldiers noticed Oron?

Volthawk
2010-05-05, 02:14 PM
Have any of the soldiers noticed Oron?

No, they're busy going into the sewers and keeping people from getting too close, which you are not.

Jallorn
2010-05-05, 02:23 PM
Oron looks for somewhere to hide.

[roll0]

Volthawk
2010-05-06, 02:02 PM
You see an alleyway, hidden in shadows, to your right. It would only take a few seconds to reach it.

Jallorn
2010-05-06, 03:11 PM
Oron dusk into the alley.

OOC: Can I use the above hide roll?

Volthawk
2010-05-06, 03:14 PM
Oron dusk into the alley.

OOC: Can I use the above hide roll?

Yeah, you can.

-----------------------------

Hiding in the alley, you hear the voice behind you again.

"Listen, kiddo. Hiding ain't gonna help. Come with me."

Jallorn
2010-05-06, 03:37 PM
Where to? Oron asks.

Volthawk
2010-05-06, 03:40 PM
"Well, this outpost of the Organization is done for. I reckon they're be taking out the skellies in an hour."

Bones pauses for a second.

"However, this is not all there is to the Organization here. I have one or two contacts still around. So we are heading to one of them."

Jallorn
2010-05-06, 03:42 PM
You go, I have my own haven, thanks.

Volthawk
2010-05-06, 03:43 PM
"Really? May I inquire what that haven is? Anyway, you go. Freyn may not appreciate me turning up with you. Hell, I'm not too sure he'll be very happy with just me turning up..."

Jallorn
2010-05-06, 03:46 PM
Oron nods, saying nothing, then heads to a tavern, trying to remain relatively hidden until he's a safe distance from the troops.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 02:43 PM
OOC: Bump?

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 02:49 PM
Oron arrives at the nearest tavern, The Toad and Wolf.

Once inside, he sees that are a few empty tables, and quite a few soldiers are scattered around, however they all seem to be relaxed.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 02:58 PM
Oron lingers at the tavern for a while, in case he watching for faces he may have seen on the way, to determine if he was followed.

Spot check:[roll0]

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 03:06 PM
You can't recognise any of the normal soldiers, but you see one Shock Trooper leaning against a wall, in a conversation but watching you.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 03:17 PM
Oron keeps his eye on the trooper, formulating a plan.

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 03:40 PM
The Shock Trooper beckons another soldier, and then starts talking to it, every so often pointing in your direction. The solider starts to walk over to you.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 03:45 PM
Oron leaps up and begins singing an old country ballad as if he were a Bard.

Perform check: [roll0]
and Bluff if necessary: [roll1]

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 03:49 PM
The soldier looks uncertain, and looks back at the shock trooper, eventually walking back to him. They discuss, and eventually the soldier heads back to you.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 03:51 PM
Oron continues singing.

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 03:52 PM
The soldier continues walking, and sits at the nearest table, watching you.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 03:55 PM
When he finishes singing, Oron picks up a plate and begins to go around as if asking for collections. He approaches the soldier fifth, acting totally unaware of the soldier's interest in him.

Bluff:[roll0]

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 03:59 PM
The patrons put a total of 12 silver pieces into the bowl, and once you get to the soldier, he puts a gold piece in, and says to you "After your collections, you're coming with me."

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 04:02 PM
What? Oron exclaims, looking shocked, Why?

Should I reroll Bluff? Or use the one above?

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 04:04 PM
"Eh, I dunno. Freaking extreme paranoia from Command. I would just let you go, but Biggie over there is someone I do not wanna piss off."

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 04:10 PM
O... ok... Oron finishes going around, figuring he might as well gather a little money, then returns to the soldier, deciding it would be best if he appears cooperative.

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 04:11 PM
You get no more change.

"So, you done? Sooner I get you sorted, sooner I can have my lunch break."

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 04:11 PM
Yes, Oron says quietly.

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 04:12 PM
"Alright, out we go."

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 04:13 PM
Oron will follow the soldier for now.

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 04:17 PM
As you two leave, the scock trooper shouts out "Oi, dumbass! Manacles!". The soldiers swears under his breath, pulling out a pair of manacles. "Alright, you'll need to put these on. I don't have to key to them, so don't try anything, OK?"

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 04:24 PM
ooc: are they locked and he doesn't have the key, or is he telling me he won't be able to free me?

Can I not give the money I have earned to my father first? You can accompany me.

Jallorn

Oron leads the guard through the town until he finds an alley with no one around. If he finds one, he leads the guard in, and then attacks with a negative energy blast.

Attack:[roll0]
Damage:[roll1]

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 04:44 PM
The soldier gets hit by the blast, and looks at you, injured and confused.

"That sure as hell wasn't eldritch..."

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 04:46 PM
Initiative:[roll0]

Just a guess.

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 05:01 PM

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 05:04 PM
ooc:Do I get another attack?

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 05:05 PM
Yeah, if you are attacking.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 05:10 PM
I am the child of death and a demon, Oron declares as he creates both eldritch and divine blasts, dismissing the eldritch blast as he pummels the guard with negative energy again.

Attack:[roll0]
Damage:[roll1]

Volthawk
2010-05-08, 05:11 PM
The guard drops to the floor, bleeding and unconscious.

Jallorn
2010-05-08, 05:18 PM
Oron blasts him one last time for good measure, then heads for "home".

Volthawk
2010-05-11, 10:58 AM
Once you get to the gates of Hilan Manor, Litra is there to meet you.

"Hey, Oron!"

Jallorn
2010-05-11, 12:22 PM
What's up sis?

Volthawk
2010-05-11, 12:24 PM
OOC: Erm, according to your sheet, Litra isn't your sister, he's the son of the nobleman.

Jallorn
2010-05-12, 06:28 PM
OOC: whoops, didn't read carefully enough.

Hey, what's up?

Jallorn
2010-05-14, 10:23 AM
OOC: bump the thread

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 11:12 AM
OOC: Sorry, wasn't at home yesterday.

"Oh, well, I'm supposed to take you over to Father. Don't know why, but he said it was very important."

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 11:50 AM
Oron hugs Litra, then says, Alright, take away.

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 01:04 PM
"Come on then!"

Litra starts running.

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 01:07 PM
Oron follows Litra.

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 01:10 PM
Once you get to the Manor, Litra stops.

"Father said not to go in with you. He's in the first door to the left."

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 01:14 PM
Silently, Oron goes in.

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 03:21 PM
As you go in, you see Freyn, in a large chair, sitting at a desk, with another person, hidden under a cloak, sitting on the other side of the desk, the side closest to you. Freyn looks up, having been writing something as you came in.

"Yes? Oron, I assume?"

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 03:26 PM
Oron angles his head, curious, then says Yes sir.

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 03:27 PM
Oron angles his head, curious, then says Yes sir.

OOC:Did it just block what I though it blocked? Because people use it as a swearword too? Funny.
---------

"Good. Now, apparently you can be trusted. Is this true?"

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 05:46 PM
Well sir, that's a peculiar question. You see, whether or not you can trust me, I am inclined to say yes. If you can trust me, great, if you can't, then well, that's a problem. Oron realizes he's rambling and cracks a smile, Yes sir, you can trust me.

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 05:51 PM
"Very sharp. Well, my lieutenant vouches for you, so I suppose you are trustworthy."

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 06:01 PM
Oron raises an eyebrow, Indeed? I don't know if I have had the privilege of his acquaintance.

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 06:02 PM
"Hehe, kid. There's a lot you don't know."

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 06:04 PM
Who's that?

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 06:05 PM
"Me, kid, Bones. From the Organization."

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 06:11 PM
Fascinating. This is most definitely an interesting development.

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 06:31 PM
Oron has a thought, Does Litra know?

Volthawk
2010-05-15, 06:33 PM
"About what? The Organization?"

"Hey, Freyn. He better not. Don't want some brat poking around. Present company excluded, of course."

Jallorn
2010-05-15, 06:36 PM
Oron simply nods, keeping quiet, he doesn't approve of that description of Litra.

OOC: Gtg for a while.

Volthawk
2010-05-17, 11:16 AM
"So, anyway. On to why I called you here...."

There is a knock on the door behind you.

"Oh, ****. They're onto me! You never saw me, OK?" Bones quickly slips out of a side door in the room.

"Oron, get the door please."

Jallorn
2010-05-17, 01:12 PM
Oron moves to open the door.

Volthawk
2010-05-17, 01:26 PM
As you move near the door, it fall down, having been kicked very hard. On the other side is a man, wearing plate armour and wearing a shield with the insignia of the paladins of Logdan, an extremely religious city who mostly worships Thora, your brother.

Jallorn
2010-05-17, 02:04 PM
It is a sad day indeed when men don't have the patience to wait for someone to get the door.

Volthawk
2010-05-17, 02:15 PM
The man ignores you, looking at Freyn.

"You, Freyn Hilan, are under arrest for so many crimes, I'm not going to list them."

Freyn chuckles.

"Not if my index finger has anything to do with it."

Jallorn
2010-05-17, 02:42 PM
Wordlessly, Oron moves away from the man, sending a negative energy bolt his way.

attack: [roll0]
damage: [roll1]

Volthawk
2010-05-17, 03:48 PM
He grimaces as the blast hits him.

"Here I thought you were just an innocent. There seems to be much evil here."

A ray of flame shoots out of Freyn's finger, incinerating the paladin.

"Thanks for the distraction, Oron."

Jallorn
2010-05-17, 03:50 PM
More will come, Oron says matter of factly.

Volthawk
2010-05-17, 03:52 PM
"Maybe. Thora's paladins aren't numerous, though. I'm still confused as to why they came for me. I mean, Logdan's a few days away. Anyway, I'm going to go down to the situation room. You coming?"

Jallorn
2010-05-17, 04:39 PM
Certainly sir. The respect lingered in his throat like a bad taste, one day, he swore, this man would show him the same respect.

Volthawk
2010-05-18, 12:50 AM
Freyn chuckles. "Call me Freyn. No need for the officialness now."

Jallorn
2010-05-18, 01:09 AM
Very well then.

Volthawk
2010-05-21, 10:59 AM
"Alrighty then."

He walks over to the door Bones went through, opening it and walking in the next room.

Jallorn
2010-05-21, 11:34 AM
Oron follows, keeping wary.

Volthawk
2010-05-26, 10:46 AM
The door opens to a large room, with many stacks of sheets of paper around. There are piles of strange books, and jars of body parts of unknown creatures. In the centre of the room is a large pool in a marble basin, which Bones, having ran into here earlier, is leaning against. There are various occult symbols and items on shelves in the room as well.

Jallorn
2010-05-26, 12:48 PM
What exactly is this place?

Volthawk
2010-05-29, 09:31 AM
"This is the real base of the Organisation for this city. The sewer outpost was just that. An outpost, although they all though it was the actual base. Apart from Bones, of course. I let him know while they were putting it together."

Jallorn
2010-05-29, 11:06 AM
And what is it that you want of me right now?

Volthawk
2010-05-31, 03:18 AM
"Well, we need to have the leadership know who you are, and that you're here with us, as part of the Organisation. Also, I believe they may just want to talk to you anyway - your...talents would be useful to them."

"Listen kid. Don't look like you're nervous, afraid, anything like that, OK?"

Jallorn
2010-06-08, 03:35 PM
Oron tilts his head, giving Freyn a curious look, I don't get nervous.

Volthawk
2010-06-09, 03:07 PM
"Right. Anyway, walk into the pool. That'll get you there."

Jallorn
2010-06-09, 03:13 PM
Wordlessly, Oron walks up to the pool, scanning the symbols to see if he can identify their purpose.

Knowledge (Religion): [roll0]
Knowledge (Arcana) Untrained:[roll1]

Volthawk
2010-06-09, 03:25 PM
You can tell that the symbols are from a strange magical creation called a Dark Gate. What it does is siphon off a little divine energy from the dark gods, usually in exchange for something, and uses that energy for travel, from simple teleportation to extraplanar travel.

Jallorn
2010-06-09, 03:29 PM
Feeling it safe enough, Oron steps into the portal.

Volthawk
2010-06-11, 09:19 AM
As you walk in, a strong force pulls you under, and everything goes black.

As everything clears, you find yourself in a small new room. The walls and floor are made out of some kind of black stone, and there is a lever on the wall. Apart from that, the room is empty.

Jallorn
2010-06-11, 09:31 AM
Sitting, Oron waits for five minutes, praying to himself that he hasn't fallen into a trap. If nothing happens, he pulls the lever.

Volthawk
2010-06-11, 09:47 AM
Nothing happens during those minutes, but once the lever is pulled, one of the walls slides downwards, revealing another section to the room. Between the two sections, there appears to be something slightly shimmering. The other side of the room is also made out of the same black rock, and has many levers in it, along the walls and one next to a chair, in which sits a man. Or at least, something that was a man. He is gaunt and skeletal man with withered flesh stretched tight across horribly visible bones and bright pinpoints of crimson light burning in the empty sockets where his eyes once were. He speaks in gravelly tones.

"So, you are Oron, son of the Goddess of Death. Interesting. I will be your contact with the Organisation, and I have work for you."

I will be going offline in around 5-10 mins, and then I might be back tomorrow. Maybe later.

Jallorn
2010-06-11, 09:53 AM
How do you know who I am?

Volthawk
2010-06-11, 09:55 AM
The lich grins.

"We know a lot, young one. More than you'd guess."

Jallorn
2010-06-11, 09:57 AM
What do you want?

Volthawk
2010-06-12, 11:22 AM
"Well, I'm here to offer you work."

He pulls a lever next to him. A floor panel slides away, and another lever pops up in that space.

"If you want to leave, pull the lever. Otherwise, let me know. I'll tell you more."

Jallorn
2010-06-12, 02:18 PM
Oron raises an eyebrow as he says, quite sarcastically, What, is this offer dangerous?

Volthawk
2010-06-12, 02:55 PM
"Well that depends on your competence, doesn't it?" the lich says in a mocking tone.

"Anyway, I'll begin." He stands up, walks to one of the walls and pulls yet another lever. A panel opens on his side, and he puts a bony hand in, pulling out a piece of parchment, which he starts to read off of.

"You see, there's this group of mercenaries, they call themselves the The White Vultures. They really have a bad reputation round here, lot of nasty rumours about them. Employing very dangerous former criminals, dabbling in dangerous or forbidden magic and recently, they've been suspected with the disappearance of a local mayor. However, they are very secretive, and the rumours have stayed at just that. Rumours. Apart from the investigation, of course. That's true. They've attracted many enemies, though, and some of them have hired us."

Jallorn
2010-06-12, 03:57 PM
You want me to find these mercenaries and end them?

Volthawk
2010-06-13, 02:46 AM
"Actually, no. We need you to, well, infiltrate the group. We'll give you more orders then."

Jallorn
2010-06-25, 06:11 AM
Not my greatest strength, but I am nothing if not adaptable.

OOC:Totally forgot it was my turn to post, kept waiting for you. My bad.

Volthawk
2010-06-25, 10:14 AM
"Great. So you accept?"

OOC: Funnily enough, I was going to bump this today.

Jallorn
2010-06-25, 10:21 AM
I guess. I don't have much better to do.

Volthawk
2010-06-28, 10:07 AM
"Alright. Once you're out of here, go to the central plaza, look for a man with a scythe. He'll be the informant. Ask him "How is your little brother?", and if it's him, he will reply "Down south in Deantan." If the reply is wrong in any way, walk away. Got that?"

Jallorn
2010-06-28, 10:09 AM
Yeah. That it? Can I get to it now?

Volthawk
2010-06-28, 10:10 AM
"Yeah. He will give you an amulet. Wear it, it will allow us to keep in touch and give new orders."

He pulls another lever, and the wall behind you slides up, revealing an exit.

Jallorn
2010-06-28, 10:15 AM
Oron walks through the exit (another portal, or an actual exit?).

Volthawk
2010-07-05, 11:09 AM
You come out the other side of the tunnel onto a rooftop. Down below, you can see a bustling market. However, you don't recognise where you are. To your right, you see a ladder, going down into an alleyway.

Jallorn
2010-07-06, 12:58 AM
Oron descends the ladder, then immediately asks around to be certain he's in the central plaza.

Volthawk
2010-07-17, 03:53 PM
Most people ignore you, seemingly nervous of you. You notice that they are all wearing the same clothes, a plain black uniform.

Jallorn
2010-07-20, 11:11 PM
Oron looks around to try and see a man with a scythe.

Volthawk
2010-07-26, 01:20 PM
You can't see any scythes; everyone here is unarmed. However, you see one person approaching, in red armour and with a shortspear in hand.

Jallorn
2010-07-26, 01:30 PM
Oron calmly waits for the man to approach.

Volthawk
2010-07-26, 07:28 PM
The man stops in front of you and stares at you, not speaking.

Jallorn
2010-07-26, 07:43 PM
How is your little brother? Oron asks, figuring he might as well.

Volthawk
2010-07-28, 06:46 AM
The man doesn't reply, but grabs you by the arm.

Jallorn
2010-07-31, 10:50 AM
Remove your hand and explain yourself, commands Oron.

Volthawk
2010-08-01, 04:33 PM
Again, there is no response, and looking at the man, you notice that it is emotionless. He pulls at your arm, and starts to walk.
