GALACTIC TRAVELERS
Hello, and welcome to my new comic, Galactic Travelers! The story is basically about a small team of... sentient beings which travel around the galaxy. Most of the jokes are sarcastic or self-criticizing.

Tomorrow the first five strips come out, and you get a general idea of what the plot is like.

Any feedback?

Hmmm... The art is good for a first strip. The character concepts equally so. The gun shot someone's foot but it was aimed to mid-air. It would be more likely he shot someone's hair or head.

Red shirt is a very interesting (If often used) character concept. That he dies in every strip reminds me of South Park. You know in every episode of the first five seasons, Kenny died. The creators ran out of ideas to kill him and so only made it every so often that Kenny would die. My concern is that will to you too. You'll run out of ideas how to kill him.

On the other hand his ability to come back to life would be a superb plot hole for you when your other characters seemed like they were about to die.

That's really all I have. On the whole good concept. I'll keep an eye on it to see how it goes.

Thank you very much!

Good point. I'll fix that.

Oh, trust me. I have a very long list of ways to kill him.
Also, Red Shirt is basically the "joke beneath the joke," in which, he's usually doing something funny in every strip, even if it doesn't directly relate to the joke.

On the other hand his ability to come back to life would be a superb plot hole for you when your other characters seemed like they were about to die.
I was actually thinking there is an infinite supply of Red Shirts, and the characters are aware of this, and exploit it.

That's really all I have. On the whole good concept. I'll keep an eye on it to see how it goes.
Thank you!

Well, for a start, it seems like another space comic. (Nah, just kidding.) I really, really hope the plot would be great, original and stuff like that.
'Bout the characters..in introduction, I love the water alien ("Vaark is too cheap to buy security drones.." :D). Is it a cynical and sarcastic character?
Kena's really my second fave character. I wouldn't be able to imagine a pathological liar mage, good one there. Something in the story like:"There aren't any deadly and angry robots behind us and trying to kill us." :D
"Red Shirt". Two words for him - oh gods. Nah, I admit, he can be useful, but I can't think of how..(maybe making the story funny?)
Vaark - "the big dumb fighter" :D Let's hope he won't destroy them all.

Yay, I almost forgot about Insigna, the spaceship! Does it have a A.I.? (Maybe talking spaceship, eh?)

So - I'll wait 'till tomorrow, things will surely get interesting. I hope so, at least.

It probably will. I have the basic story arc planned already.

'Bout the characters..in introduction, I love the water alien ("Vaark is too cheap to buy security drones.." :D). Is it a cynical and sarcastic character?
Yeah.

Kena's really my second fave character. I wouldn't be able to imagine a pathological liar mage, good one there. Something in the story like:"There aren't any deadly and angry robots behind us and trying to kill us." :D
She's a very deep character, a bit like Haley mixed with Belkar.

"Red Shirt". Two words for him - oh gods. Nah, I admit, he can be useful, but I can't think of how..(maybe making the story funny?)
He's more of a "where's Waldo" kind of running gag, he dies in every strip, but not always in an obvious way.

Vaark - "the big dumb fighter" :D Let's hope he won't destroy them all.
Yes. Let us hope.

Yay, I almost forgot about Insigna, the spaceship! Does it have a A.I.? (Maybe talking spaceship, eh?)
Yeah, it does have an AI. Although knowing how cheap Vaark is, don't expect anything fancy.

So - I'll wait 'till tomorrow, things will surely get interesting. I hope so, at least.
It will.

Yes, my teacher has seen it, and she loves it. Also:
*Ahem*
In my class, there is a lot of project-based-learning. And for the final project, you can basically do whatever you want, as long as you can convince the teacher that it is "educational." For example, last year two boys made a tennis ball cannon, another boy made a musical CD, and I did an animation.

... it's a pretty awesome class.

"Lying around like this develops my breathing skills so that I can better control my breath and allows me to calm my mind to achieve a higher state of clarity and rationality, while I think and philosophize upon the nature of life, the universe and humanity thus giving me a deeper insight into life and the world."

Mind if I use that for my next school project?

Fair point.

"Doing this project will help develop my artistic skills, especially in the branch of computer graphics. It will also function as a supplement to my previous project on animation, helping to enhance my artistic/creative intelligence."

You can do anything with euphemisms. Such as explaining how you broke a window with a ball:
"I shattered the transparent viewing area while utilizing my spheroid recreational object."
But that one's a stretch.

Anyways, great comic.

Well then, you should probably try and draw your characters every other strip, just to get more practice. because just duplicating the character, and maybe sometimes moving an arm a bit does not equal "develop my artistic skills".

The prologue. I'm looking at the fifth panel: Red Shirt has the same pose, although supposedly he died of lack of air in the vacuum of space. That should at least make him flail his arms a bit trying to gasp for air or something. Oh, and after carefully looking at it, I see that in the prologue, they all have the same body, only tweaked a bit in the case of Kena (since she is a female and all). But the arms and legs ? Same everywhere. Every damned humanoid character has the same arms and legs.

Strip 7: Red shirt seems to be a cardboard cutout. With moving eyebrows. Vaark doesnt even change his face in that one, like he had it painted on or something.

Seriously, even if the writing would be stellar, that kinda static cardboard cutout panels doesnt make this a great work. Oh, and the writing. Lets see, the generic guy in the tavern informs us about incredible technology on a moon, former colony of humans that destroyed their home planet. Then he says "put a stop to the war that's going on". What war ? That didnt appear nowhere in the comic and it doesnt appear again. And a 4th wall breaking joke about "the DM". WOW HOW ORIGINAL !

And as a last tip: you cant see stars from a moon because of the light reflected from the planet it's orbiting. Unless that is some kind of snow.

Thank you for the, um, constructive criticism. :smalleek:
But yeah, I'll try to start fixing this up.

Also, the strip about the DM wasn't making a joke about the DM, the joke was the "that was for my fans" bit.

I think you should calm down. It's no big deal if there are a few little mistakes here and there.

Yes, it is no big deal. That doesn't mean that they cannot be fixed. Someone needs to criticize it. And I wouldn't have bothered if I didn't think that Zexion has potential. The basic skeleton of the characters is well done. All it needs is a bit more character differetiation between bodies and a lot more movement.

If you think that these mistakes dont need correcting, what DO you think about the comic ? Go look at OotS. Look closely at the fluidity of the characters. Then come back and look at this comic. If no one would have said "Hey Zexion ! Your characters look like they are cardboard cut-outs ! Could you try to fix that ? That would improve your webcomic !", would Zexion be aware of this issue ? Maybe, maybe not. While "That strip was awesome !" comments are a welcomed sight for webcomic artists and scriptwriters, they only encourage the artist to keep the same art style, thinking that it has no flaws. See where I am going here ?

Yes, Bayar, and I appreciate the constructive criticism.
However, if you have any more ideas for improving the comic, please unload them... at a slower pace. The long list of flaws kind of felt like you were criticizing me for the sake of criticizing me.

Also, if you're wondering why the new comic is taking so long, I'm trying to improve the posture and all of that stuff. :smalltongue:

(As I said, we got different time zones. It was 11.48 PM for me when you posted that new strip is up.)

Yay, art uprgrade! I see, I see. What do you draw in? (Inkscape?)
I love that "spaceship". It's obvious you worked hard on it.
And the best part of the improve is - I can kill Redshirt with "Delete" button! Yay!

Actually, I've been drawing in Inkscape for a while. The difference is, I just found the Unify tool. So my speech bubbles are that much better, and so on.

Ok, maybe I was a bit harsh back there. I want to apologise if I seemed rude. And the reason I didn't reply sooner is because of exams.

That Traction City must have taken hours of designing (although you probably had fewer headaches after you made the basic building blocks :smallwink:).

Even if it doesn't seem like a big deal, Kena's arms in this strip is such a breath of fresh air.

I see signs of improvement, and can't wait to see more.
