A colleague at work was looking for some pictures of supertankers for a presentation he was preparing, and stumbled across this abomination of a website:

http://www.hydrolance.net/FastOilTanker-HydroLance.htm

I don't think I've seen such a monstrosity in years.

It appears to belong to some crank engineering genius, where he describes his plans for a revolutionary new design of ship, capable of travelling at 80 knots or more.

Or should I say: a REVOLUTIONARY NEW DESIGN of SHIP, Capable of Travelling at 80 Knots or More!

It also has some really grating sound effects (that for some reason won't play on my own computer, but did on our work PCs).

Edited: and not to mention all the horribly Photoshopped MS Painted concept images...

Well, it does look like a ship from a James Bond movie, which is a point in its favor.

It wouldn't work. The "lances" would not allow stability at higher speeds. It would be safer to carry the oil in jet aircraft.

Cool design, high speeds, fatally unsafe? I take it back, this isn't a James Bond ship, this is a Thunderbirds ship.

Ship: "This is the Hypertanker! Calling International Rescue! Calling...International Rescue!! Do you read me?"

*pan from Earth to Thunderbird 5 as TB5 theme plays*
*cut to inside of TB5, tape drives spinning away*

John: "This is International Rescue! We read you loud and clear. What's your situation?"

Ship: "Our nuclotomic turbodrives are overloading--the lances are unstable, and we're headed right for the Jenkins Highly-Explosive Research Facility! If anyone can save us, it's you!"

*cut to inside, Tracy Island*

John (in picture): "So that's the situation, Dad."

Jeff: "Alright, boys, off you go."

Scott: "Sure thing, Dad!"

Jeff: "Virgil, maybe you should take the new Pod 7 that Brains has been working on. Brains, why don't you go with him to work it?"

Brains: "A-ah, good idea, Mr. Tracy."

...I could go on like this all day.

To be fair to the poor web designer, it could be worse. It could be a white background, and it could have marquees.

and syncronized spinning images!

Syncronised spinning images are CLASSY and they improve websites almost as much as unpausable MIDIs in the background.
