Its not really much more realistic, and adds a whole bunch of legwork. If you want realism, remove hit points altogether, or add something like the SAGA condition track. After all, until you look at big monsters, the weapons with a x2 crit are every bit as deadly as those with a x3 or x4, sure it would be easier to kill a dragon with a good spear stab (x3) than a rapier, but on a human sized target it doesn't matter. Plus, the scythe would be completely useless on large targets.

In short, the crit multiplier doesn't line up with your idea well at all, so it isn't any more realistic, or even reduces realism. While this is counterbalanced by the ability to kill instantly, it ends up being a lot of work for very little effect. If you are aiming for realism, ditch d20 entirely. Play GURPS or something (or a high lethality variant of Fudge for that matter.), with the aforementioned condition track being another method to add a little bit.
