I just got a job at Game Stop! My first shift is next week! I may need new underwear because of this!
On an related note, does anyone else get paranoid when lots of good things start happening? Like, going in reverse, I have this job, I have a neat apartment with blazing fast internet, I have a super awesome girlfriend...I feel like karma is going to b*tchslap me sometime soon.

But way to go, definitely. Tough Market? It has Resistance to Employment 50 and Damage Reduction/Epic

Put in a word for me. I have a PhD in Epicness.

I don't think the universe works like that. Sometimes really good things can happen with no downfall, and really horrible things can happen with no upside.

If by Epic you mean "Friends in high places" then yes.
Though really, it's not like I ONLY relied on a friend to land the job. It helped that I saw the manager at a concert, so he was familiar with me, and that though I've not had retail experience, I've worked in restaurants, so I know how to deal with customers.

True enough, though that's still not enough to keep me from being paranoid. Especially with all the coolness that happened today...but more on that later.
Congrats.

Thanks. And yeah, it is back - as I mentioned above, I worked for both Outback Steakhouse and Subway Sandwiches.
Now, on even better news, in addition to me getting my shifts (Wednesday and Friday, both 5-9), my landlord dropped by today and said he was going to fix a whole bunch of crap that was wrong with the house. SO MUCH GOOD CAN ONLY LEAD TO DOOM.

I hear working in gaming retail is actually pretty bad. I hope it turns out well for you though. :smalltongue:

Wise man says "living in success is easy but truly we are tested by how we cope with failure" (pretty sure the saying already exists in some form but what the heck)
Glad to hear that things are going well, but putting rainy day provisions to one side is never a bad idea.
When the universe stops spamming Raydens back, back, forward move in the Mortal Kombat of life I shall tell thee how one gets back to doom. The coin of fortune stands on its side only time will tell it's face.
Glad to hear that times are good for you, don't take the above stuff to seriously i just love to read myself type

OOOOoooooooooooooooooh, mystical and fancy, aren't we? :smalltongue: And thanks on the EWJ-atar. It's rather groovy, innit?
Also, as a note to hardcore gamer types out there - where's a good place I can go to bone up on vidjagame knowledge that one would expect a sales associate for Game Stop to have? I mean, I know of Kotaku, but other than that? I've gotta get my game on so I can actually tell people things if they ask.

But you won't need that info. You'll need to know how to get rid of people who keep coming with questions like "Why duz this gaeym nart werk on mah Wiistation 360?!?!"
Prepare to deal with the worst of humanity. Well, worst of the retail side of things.

Wait, getting a job prompted you to defecate in your shorts?

You are better off learning tech answers, for instance one time I was in Florida and a woman came up to me and asked my advice on wireless routing for the Xbox 360.
Also it's not a bad idea to simply play as many games as possible, give them a fair judgement of good or bad so that when asked by potential customers you can say yay or nay, also there is something about playing games for employment research that tickles me.

That sounds like a cool job. Congrats.
I get very paranoid when good things start happening. Especially when it's my car. If my car hasn't broken down for more than a month or two, I get really quiet and gentle around it and I'll refuse to bring it up in conversation for fear of cursing some repairs onto it. ("How's your car?" "Don't ask.")
Now I'm worried that I'll have cursed some repairs onto it. :smalleek: It was doing so well, too...
Edit: I wouldn't worry so much about answers to questions yet. Think about the possibilities, sure, but the fact that they hired you says, "We're willing to train you." Not to mention that it's very unlikely you'll be left completely alone when you first start a job, so there'll always be somebody there to answer a question for you. You'll eventually learn tons of useful knowledge just from being in the store when something goes wrong or asking a fellow employee for help with something or somebody. Managers seem to like employees who ask questions, because it shows you want to learn.
Edit Edit: Not even kidding, the next drive I took after this post, some lights came on that shouldn't have come on in the car. Not a huge repair, but it's like it's warning me about talking of its misfortunes... :smalleek:
