Hey all!

This is actually my first post on these boards, although I've been lurking here for quite a while. I don't really know anything about art or drawing (much less drawing on the computer), but I'd like to learn.

The image spoilered below is my first attempt at drawing stuff on inkscape. Well, at least the first thing I've drawn that I haven't immediately deleted.

As you can see, it's not much, but if you could leave me some feedback to help me improve my admittedly meager skills, that'd be great. I'll be putting more pictures up eventually, whenever I get around to it.

Oh, and please don't hold back if you honestly think my stuff sucks, be mean, I can take it. Just tell me why it sucks. Thanks for reading this!

UPDATE 9/21/10
-Added new doodle. I was just screwing around, but I kind of like the style. Do you like the style? :smalltongue:

UPDATE 9/20/10
-Minor updates to the only picture I've posted :smalltongue:

Thanks.

Oh, and I just set myself up a Deviant Art account HERE (http://the-artic-camel.deviantart.com/), if you feel like critiquing me over there for some reason instead.

Thanks for the honesty! I'll work on learning how to draw hair (that was just easy to draw). And, you know, the other stuff. :smalltongue:

EDIT: Well, I fixed it a bit, and I'll fix it more later. Just thought I'd put the latest version up in case anybody had any immediate thoughts.

If you want a tip on hair... Unless you're drawing hair that is very, very wet then it will more than likely fall around the head and face not lay flat on the skull. Trying to find an example of mine... Hold on.

Here's a good one:

You see how one character has flatter hair than the other's comparitively fluffier hair - but neither's lays completely flat against their heads. Hair occupies space, and even the thinnest of hair will stick out slightly.

His hair is a little flat and his shoes look silly. /blunt

There's just something about that guy that REALLY makes me want to throw a pie or some other creamy baked good in his face.

I know exactly what you mean. He's got that sort of condescending look in his eye that suggests that he thinks he's a better person than you. :smalltongue:

What do you guys think of my new guy? I was just doodling around, but I kind of like the way he looks. Didn't stop me from being lazy and leaving him black and white and without legs or other details. I might go back and do more later (although I think he might look better black and white.)

Wow, that picture makes me want to work much harder to improve. I see what you mean about the hair too. I think I'll make a bald guy/gal and just practice drawing a bunch of different kinds of hair on him/her. Thanks!

I like the new style. (Even though the arms are all kinds of noodly.) :smallcool:
