I'm looking for creepy, malevolent-sounding classical music, preferably with string instruments. Anyone know some tunes that fit the bill?

Henryk Gorecki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henryk_G%C3%B3recki) is your man. Creepy, melancholy as hell modern symphonic music. Not necessarily so heavy on the strings, but still really good.

I don't really have time to think that much about it at the moment, but how about Mars, The Bringer of War, from that Planets suite?

The Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfBVYhyXU8o) is very, very creepy and has plenty of string instruments.

Most of the Planets suite fits the bill. Anything by Stravinksy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwt4DdsFL70&feature=related) is also pretty perfect.

I wouldn't call Holst's Planets malevolent or creepy.
Well, I can point you to this. It is creepy and malevolent strings music to the point of being unrecognizable as strings, or arguably as music...
George Crumb's Black Angels (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV6BeeoX474)
The Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfBVYhyXU8o) is very, very creepy and has plenty of string instruments.
Ok, I just listened to this, and DAMN. Very much the same kind of "Holy !!!! terrifying insanity" as Black Angels.

Mars is a bit too loud and agressive for a conspiracy thing. Neptune, The Mystic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0i7advgnUk) works better, as does Saturn, The Bringer of Old Age (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ0Z6kD06Us).
I also second any mention of Stravinsky, particularly the Rite of Spring (a piece which I would recomend to anyone who's sceptical about classical music) would qualify, the Introduction to the first half (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GlxnVl24sg), Introduction to the second half (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBoFtK6fXBM) and Ritual Action of the Ancestors (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NifvFB8khk8) all positively ooze creepy malevolence. Then there's Spring Rounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POx2dAEiMwk) which, while not quite what you're asking for, was able to reduce my then 8-year-old sister to hiding under the table in fear, so may be useful for any 'true horror revealed' moments you have planned (especially around the 2 minute mark).
A few more controversial suggestions (drawing from the Darkwave Neo-classical genre, and soundtracks):
Windfall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNMHX-H2Dfw) by Dead Can Dance
Yulunga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJqUbb-WuPQ) also by Dead Can Dance
Mima's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyaI-OGhfKE) from the Perfect Blue soundtrack
Virtua Mima (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iGGP_v31uk) also from the Perfect Blue soundtrack. (note that this is a deeply, deeply, unsettling piece of music. There is a vocals only version of it as well, which is - somehow - even more disturbing.)
Black Angels and Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima, while both very creepy, seem just a bit too invasive (they're kind of hovering around the 'music/noise' divide as it is). Just my opinion though.

The music from the Buffy episode "Hush" also works, for what it's worth.

Requiem for a Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2Ma4BvMUwU) backs several conspiracy theory videos I've seen.

That's a good description, I'd say, yeah. It's another alternative in the 'disturbing music' vein depending on what exactly he's looking for. Myself, I'm working on something that needs more of this kind of terrifying twisted 'music'.

Well, I'm not sure if it would be considered exactly creepy, but Prokoiev's Montagues and Capulets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrWyMHB1Cbk) is certainly classical, and certainly malevolent. And also string.

Creepy malevolent classical music and no one has give Night on Bald Mountain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCEDfZgDPS8) yet? I'm disappointed.
Great ones given so far in all though.

The Interview with the Vampire score has a few nice pieces. It was Academy Award nominated, too. I think you'd want the harpsichord piece "Lestat's Recitative", in particular.
Also, if you're okay with a later section of the tune moving into more modern music, the theme to the film Suspiria by Goblin is also good.
