Since all the cool kids seem to be doing it (and since I officially joined the CHALLENGE (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171954)), I thought I'd do a thread with my character portraits, OoTS fanart, art from my own comic and other irrelevant stuff.
After all, what's the point of frequenting an art forum if I don't shamelessly abusive it for my own narcissistic needs?

Honest (and constructive) critique is always welcomed and very appreciated.

Now... Without further ado: ART!

Some OoTS fanart:

Stuff I've done this week as part of THE CHALLENGE!

Some snark art for the DD thread:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/DomPuppeteer.gif

A coloured version of the main characters from my comic:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/CEcoloured.jpg

Something quite silly I did when I got fed up with my school project:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/thesun.gif

Also, I did three pages for my comic, but I won't put them up (they contain quite a lot of spoilers). If you're interested, go look at the comics that did go up this week: tuesday (http://catseyes.comicgenesis.com/d/20101019.html), thursday (http://catseyes.comicgenesis.com/d/20101021.html), saturday (http://catseyes.comicgenesis.com/d/20101023.html).

Loving the perspective on your "snark art". That hand is amaaaazing. @-@

Also, I really like the way you drew the ears for your characters in the second spoiler of the second post. What race are they? o.o?

Moon_Called: Thanks a lot for the nice words

The characters are a kind of feline/human hybrid (it's a somewhat common race in the setting). They're actually supposed to have tails, but sometimes I just... forget. Oops.

Mr. Moon

No problem. =3

Aaah, I thought as much by the feet. Just wasn't completely sure.
And don't worry, I forget tails all the time. Or add them to characters who shouldn't have any. >>

Haha! Okay, I don't think I've ever done that! Sounds like there could be some interesting results from that :smallwink:

Do you have a gallery yourself, MC?

New artwork, to be posted on my webcomic page tomorrow:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/Micelo.gif
I really enjoyed drawing a human again (the last 17 CE pages have been all feline), though I seem to have forgotten how to draw feet. This is bad and must be fixed.

I'm gonna be in trouble this week because it's filler week, which means that I have to produce double, but have way less artwork to show. Hmm.

Oh well, 'tis the toil of artisting, I guess :smalltongue:

I do indeed. My gallery is hosted on deviantArt. (mooncalled-whiterose.deviantart.com) I post stuff to the Showcase thread recently, too, but I'm probably going to get my own thread sooner or later. Just waiting on the Mods for some rules stuff.

What's the link to your webcomic, by the way?

Also, I feel your pain. I'm rushing to finish an indian ink painting (x.x) by friday, because I've been too busy with essays for art x.x

Cool! I'm on DA myself, but my internet is stupid, so I usually have to refresh the page a bunch of times before I can see an image. Thus, I'm hardly ever there.

My curiousity did get the better of me this time, though. Heh.

Oh. Yeah, I just noticed that my banner apparantly didn't link to the comic. *headdesk! ...ow*
Fixed now. And the comic is here (http://catseyes.comicgenesis.com/).

Mr. Moon

Yeah, dA does that sometimes. Have you got AdBlock on? dA's devs are devious - they make it so that the site doesn't work half the time if you do.

... Huh. Something weird's going on with the archive. When I loaded the first page, it loaded in an embeded window... thing. A little box with the page inside it. And when I go to the archives in that box, it opens a new one, and so on. o.o

Glass Mouse
2010-10-29, 05:27 AM
Hmm. The Adblock thing may explain that. I use Google Chrome, and it's crazy effective when it somes to blocking stuff. I'll look into it, thanks.

Iframe, you fail me! Or, uh. My bad HTML-making skills fail me. Something fails me, in any case :smalltongue:
I'll see what I can do about fixing it. If Iframe doesn't work, I'm gonna have to redesign the site somewhat (unless there's a real HTML solution somewhere). Thanks for pointing it out, MC! It's really neat having someone who can catch the mistakes that I don't.

Aand just to keep from derailing my own thread too much, NEW ARTWORK:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/Witch.gifThis is what playing eight hours of L4D can lead to. Dunno if I'm really satisfied with it, but I kinda need it for the CHALLENGE.

I think the Witch could use a light line on the back to define the spine better, as it sorta looks like her entire back is wrinkly to me :smalltongue:. The fingers of the left hand could maybe have more defined joints.
But otherwise good job, i especially the shading .

OGAWDWITCHRUNRUNRUNRUNRUN

Reminds me of the time I accidentally tripped over a Witch. .-.

Good luck fixing it. Let me know when you have. =3

Glass Mouse

@IncoherentEssay: Thanks a lot for the critique. I'll remember the spine tip.
As for the hands, I always hope that no one notices stuff like that. I've drawn more hands than I can count, but I still have trouble with them. Tsk, that's no excuse for taking the easy way out :smallwink:

@MC: Haha. My fear for the Witch has been diminished somewhat after I started playing L4D with my boyfriend. His first reaction upon seeing a Witch isn't the perfectly reasonable "OGODAWITCHRUN!", but rather "Hmm, I've got a Molotov, two still-standing friends and a full round of ammo - let's dance!"
On the positive side, the Witch always goes for him

I will ^^ It'll probably be sometime next week since I don't have the time for extended work this weekend.

All right, it's sunday and time to see if I've lived up to the CHALLENGE.

Lessee... I've drawn the Witch. There are two never-before-seen (sounds fancy, non? :smallwink:) updates on the comic, one of which is also posted here. Three left.

Number one: My contribution to Sketch-o-daily today. Theme: First day of School.http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/The%20Challenge/firstdayofschool.gif
Number two: Since this week's CHALLENGE theme is food, I did a drawing related to this. Mostly because it gave me the giggles :smallbiggrin:http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/The%20Challenge/zotafood.gif
Number three: Started as a sketch in an OC Meme, but I liked it so much that I coloured it.http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/The%20Challenge/Wanda.jpg
I've also drawn four comics and an OC Meme, but the comics are spoilery, and the meme is sketchy and never fun for strangers.
All in all a good week

Ooooh, I love number three's dress. o.o
Great composition, too. The horizontal tail really balances out the fact that she's over on the side.

And number two made me laugh.

Sorry about the late answer, M_C, but I recently vowed to myself to only post here if I had new artwork to show (to keep the thread from clobbering up, and to make myself draw more). Since I'm supposed to do at least six pieces a week, this didn't seem unreasonable.
However, instead of increasing my drawing incentive, it seems to have decreased my answering quota. That kinda... doesn't speak well of me.

Oh, well. Thanks for the nice words!
Number Three's taste in clothes is actually a main reason why I love to draw her. That, and her always angry attitude :smallwink:

Also, since this week's CHALLENGE theme is "flying", and I need to upload something... It's been a busy week, but I had a long train ride where I managed to draw:

Phew! I haven't been very active here... partly because I haven't been near a computer since friday, and even now I only have something like five minutes to spend.

I didn't even manage to fix CE's webpage. Sorry, M_C. It's very much on my to-do list as soon as I get the time.

However, since toay is CHALLENGE day, I better make status. I've done:
- Three comics (all up on the website).
- One flying girl.

Also, this:
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/The%20Challenge/kick.gif
I know it's kinda sketchy, and I'm sorry, but I did an extra CE page this week, and a birthday card that I didn't manage to scan, so I didn't have the time for a "proper" drawing on top of that. Please forgive me, since this was actually pretty difficult to do :smallwink:

And for the Sketchoholic contest with the theme "Polka Dot":

Early CHALLENGE status this week, as I'm probably gonna be away most of tomorrow.

I've done the regular three CE pages and these:

For the Sketchoholic, "Forest creature":http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/The%20Challenge/wildchild.gif

I though about throwing some colour on this, but I decided that sleep was better. It really is. Don't try and deny it.
For the Sketchoholic, "Big Mouth":http://www2.sketchoholic.com/uploads/1000/upload/users/8217/chesire.JPG
I'm not really.... happy with this. But oh well, it's coloured piece. I guess that's something?
For training:http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/HumanKih.gif

Why as a human? Oooh, the suspense...! (not really)

Incredibly tiring week. I'm almost proud of myself for managing to produce everything I should - for CE, for this CHALLENGE, for my study, for some writing course I'm following...

Okay. CHALLENGE time. Three CE updates are up for this week, and I drew four people and a horse. Since they all belong to the same story-ish thing, I threw them into one big picture.
But still... CHALLENGE met:http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/The%20Challenge/humanpartycopycopy.gif

Feedback, critisism, anything, would still be very appreciated

I love the people! Especially the lady with the bun. But the proportions on the horse look a little wonky to me. I think his head is too small for the rest of him, and his neck's perhaps a little short.

Edit: Both the swordspeople are wearing their swords on their right side, but swords are generally worn on the left to make drawing them with the right hand easier. Unless you meant both of them to be lefties :smallwink:

Glass Mouse

Thanks a lot for the feeback, Savannah!
I get what you mean about the horse - though I think maybe the neck is too thick rather than too short. Oh well, I'll keep it in mind for my next horse (this is the first horse I've ever drawn - and it was pretty fun, so I'll definitely do it more!)

Regarding the swords... um, oops? I hadn't thought about that at all. Thanks a lot for educating me! :smallwink:

A couple of things kinda bug me, the sword and the horse.
The sword has no pommel and the handle is rather short, makes it look like it will slip out of hand easily. Lack of pommel also tends to make it tip-heavy, messing with the balance.

The horse's head is slightly too small, but it's indeed mostly that the neck is about 125-133% as thick as it ought to be. Most of the slimming should be from the front, the mane is at about the right spot.
It could also do with a more defined musculature, looks kinda 'blobby' now. You have epic shading skills, apply them and save the horsie :smallwink:.

Other than that though, good job .

Thanks, IncoherentEssay!
Huh, maybe I should actually read a bit about swords. I keep forgetting that there's more thought put in those than "sharp stick, non-sharp handle, go!" :smallwink:
Also, it doesn't help that my only exposure to swords has been through my brothers' LARPing - and the weight balance of latex swords is just slightly different from that of metal swords.

As for the horse, thanks for the concrete critisism. Dunno if I'll save this horse or do another one with advice applied, but in any case, there'll be a new horse up later this week.

And thanks a lot for the nice words about my shading! Made me smile from ear to ear

Eep! I completely forgot about this last night, and I just now had the opportunity to upload.
Way late CHALLENGE time:
- three comics online.

These three drawings of Kih (from CE):
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/Kihdress-up.gif

A more "full" drawing of Anowa (also from CE):
http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2010/333/b/4/anwoa_by_glassmouse89-d33vy5k.jpg

Yeah, so I played a lot of dress-up with my characters this week. I also worked with silhouttes and general character design, but those are way too doodly to really be of any value.

I know this is kind of a weak CHALLENGE (also, it's lacking a horse - I'll do it next week, I promise!), but last week was pretty crazy, and I didn't get the time to do anything involved. Right now, I just have to finish a short story, and then I'll be back to real drawing!

Comments and critique would still be very appreciated (though there's not a lot to comment on, I admit)

Still no horsie. In my defense, my only "weekend" this week has consisted of half a day's playing D&D - which doesn't leave much time for drawing. My study eats up literally all my time these weeks.

I did produce three new drawings apart from the usual comic stuff, though. *am proud*

My character for said D&D session:http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/339/5/4/morn_aggaye_by_glassmouse89-d34b2pa.jpg
Something I toyed with, mostly to practise facial shadows:http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z250/GlassMouse/inkgirl.jpg
A slightly more "full" drawing, CE related (and in tune with this week's CHALLENGE theme):http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/339/6/e/hurt_by_glassmouse89-d34b2dq.jpg

I really, really hope I'll be able to produce something more substantial next week. No promises, though, until my current Uni project is finished.

Drawing is great stress relief, though
