Class: Paladin (Golden Variant from APG)
Level: 8
Standard WBL
Race: Human
Stats before magic items
STR: 20 (16+2 (human bonus) +2 (level increase)
DEX: 14
CON: 14
WIS: 10
INT: 10
CHA: 14
I was thinking of going the ride by attack route, charging in and out. I got my ever so fun smite ability, but what other sources of damage that multiply on a charge can I get with those sources?

Alternative character idea:Horse lord Barbarian Charger (Can you tell I want to play a charger?)
Same source's but since I have never played this kind of barbarian, I need even more help.
Help me playground, please?

Class:
If you're dead set on charging then you want Paladin, nothing else will do.
Divine Bond Mount is SO much better than anything the Barbarian could get.
(not familiar with "golden variant", so if I say something that won't work, just go with the flow)

Start here (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/) if you haven't already. Under the Paladin class listing there is a link to a nice Paladin Guide (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/community-creations/cryptic-s-lab). It has good info on building a charge Paladin.

Race: 3 worth recommending
Human, gives bonus Skill points and a bonus feat. +2 of your choice stat. Downside: Medium size, fine for riding your Mount out in the open, bad news if there are a lot of dungeons and close quarters.
Gnomes/Halflings, small size is great for 'indoor' mounted combat. Both feature -2Str and +2Cha, the loss of Str hurts, but Small size gives +1to-hit and +1AC, and the Cha bonus on a Paladin is always good. Due to being small both also have base speed 20ft. but it's mounted combat so who cares. The Halfling gets +1 to all saving throws, but I'd have to give my vote to the Gnome. +2Con beats +2Dex for a charger.

Stat help. You don't really need Dex as a charger, so drop that to 10, and then depending on what race you take you can drop either Dex, Int, or Wis to 8 to free up some more points. You don't want to go below 2 skill points per level, as Ride will eat up 1 every level.
If you go Human then dump Int, your bonus skill point will compensate.
If you go Halfling then dump Dex and Wis, your racial bonuses will boost Dex back up to 10, and you get +1 all saving throws, which compensates for the lost point of Will save.
Gnome doesn't have a good go to dump stat.

You will be a little feat starved, but it'll be managable. Suggested feats:
Mounted Combat (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/mounted-combat-combat---final), it's a pre-req for pretty much every other Mount/Charge related feat.
Ride-by-Attack (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/ride-by-attack-combat---final), charge>attack>keep moving, also a pre-req for...
Spirited Charge (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/spirited-charge-combat---final), double (or triple GO LANCE!) your damage on a charge attack.
Mounted Blade (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/local-feats/mounted-blade), the mounted version of Cleave. More attacks = more fun!
Wheeling Charge (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/wheeling-charge-combat-local), charge and turn.

I'd recommend Gnome with stats of
Str 18 (18, -2 racial, +2 levels)
Dex 10
Con 16 (14, +2 racial)
Int 10
Wis 8
Cha 16 (14, +2 racial)
Compared to your posted stats this loses 2 Str/Wis, and 4 Dex, but gains 2 Con/Cha. The small size helps make up for lost Str/Dex, and the Cha>Divine Grace compensates for the lost Wis. The extra Con is just gravy.
