Welcome, to Anime Week Thread! Anime week, by voting was selected as the next week, to be held on January 23-30!

Hm? What's that I hear you say?

"Well, gee, Ruki... I'd love to participate but I don't know anything about Anime!"

No worries! I'll include some information, and if you want help deciding on a character, that's what this thread is for! Or... what's that? You'd like to suggest someone go as your favorite Anime character? This is also a good place for that!

AVATARISTS! If you have any already made Anime Avatars that you would like to put up for adoption, this may be a good moment to do so! I'll even throw in some I made myself a while ago.

Information:
Anime comes in several categories. The most basic are sorted out by target demographic:

Shonen being possibly the most popular is anime aimed at boys, up to the age of 18, maybe. The supreme king here, of course, is Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball. In more modern times, the Shonen category mostly revolves around "The Big 3": Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. Not all Shonen are "power level" Anime, however. The popular Death Note anime is also a Shonen. Other examples include Pokemon, Digimon, and the ever-popular Fullmetal Alchemist.

Shojo is Shonen's female counterpart. Unlike Shonen, Shojo usually centers around young female characters. The most popular type of Shojo is the "Magical Girl" genre, stories about "ordinary high school girls" with magical powers. The first one to come to mind is Sailor Moon. Other popular titles include Nanoha, CLAMP's Card Captor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth. Aside from the Magical Girls there's also more "mature" Shojo, such as Ouran High School Host Club or Fruits Basket, dealing with (few) more adult topics.

Seinen is the broadest of them all. Technically aimed at a young adult male audience, it's usually accepted as the "default" for young adults and is popular among females as well. Perhaps the most popular here is Neon Genesis Evangelion, a true ground-breaker, and Cowboy Bebop. Other titles that come to mind here are Chobits, Azumanga Daioh, Elfen Lied, and cannotforget to mention: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Finally, Josei is Seinen's female, less broad counterpart. Josei, being aimed at a young adult female audience, is quite rare, but has some very popular titles as well. Some well-known ones are Honey and Clover, Nana, and Paradise Kiss.

There are other further types of Anime and Manga,based on content rather than target demographic, but most of them are covered by the previous four, barring the Adults-Only (Hentai, 18+) material. I suppose, however, that it is important to mention Mecha.

Mecha, to put it simply, is Anime about giant robots. Giant Robots and their pilots, specifically. The best-known ones in this case are Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Code Geass, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

If any of these catch your eye for an avatar, you might want to look up the Opening sequences of some of the underlined titles in YouTube. It usually tells you all you need to know. :smalltongue:

If you really need to kick logic to the curb and surpass the impossible, try Simon's 5-pointed version. However, due to the sheer amounts of AWESOMETM contained within said glasses, attempting to store their image permanently in a single 'shoppable image tends to melt whatever server it's stored on with hotblooded manliness, and thus their image must be created anew every time they are to be applied. Also I couldn't find a .png online. Maybe someone should make one

Perhaps unfortunately for you though, most of the elves that appeared in the anime were female, with the only male ones I can recall having been Dark Elves and relatively minor characters.

Basically you switch your avatar to something relating to the theme for that week, with the most common way being dressing your regular avatar character up as a character from something else. Lots of people don't have regular avatar characters so they do something else related to the theme like if there was a Sci-Fi Novels Released as Part of a Quintilogy but Called a Trilogy Week then someone might get an Arthur Dent avatar. The rules are that you have to be cool :smallcool: and you talk about your avatar and other people's avatar and sometimes there's some roleplaying once the week starts but the mods don't really like that. Also you ask who you should be. Endlessly.

A couple of them do. Assassin looks like something I could do. Hakuoro also fits in there. I think it's the style of dress that makes them legit, although that mask.part of his face would make a Hakuoro costume very recognizable. I'll see which one looks better as a finished product.

The plot of the TV show "Avatar: The Last Air Bender" centers around a young boy, I forget his name, but it starts with A, in his travel around the world to master the elements.
