View Full Version : Pimp My Sig

Alright, all of us want our signatures to look awesome, and stay within the forum guidelines of 12 lines. In this thread I'd like to discuss ways of doing so.

First off, who here has pointers on how to determine how many lines of text you have in a sig, including picture files and similar?

Here are some ways to keep the amount of text within down so you don't surpass the character length:
TinyPic (www.tinypic.com)
TinyUrl (www.tinyurl.com)

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

For example, here is the signature I wish to use, without spoilers, but am uncertain if it's exactly within 12 lines or not. Also wouldn't mind making it look better if possible. Any suggestions?

You could take out the second -=-=-=- without it looking worse at all.

That, and also using a smaller font would help too - the first line, in particular, would be fine at size 1.

Maybe more like this:

How about this? Sure looks smaller than the one I have now.

I found that putting text as part of an image along with a picture allows you to compress all the information into a smaller space...

There's also the possibility of making pictures out of two of these lines of text and stacking them next to each other, similar to my sig. (Or stacking them on top of each other while making them less high.)

It requires a tad more effort to make it look right, but looks pretty decent and saves space. (Assuming you keep the formating in line with each other, which i haven't.)

Just out of interest, is this intended to be the sort of thread where anyone can ask for signature-related advice?

By the way, have the mods ever given us a maximum pixel height for signatures? It would be much more clear cut and - given that most people use images as well as text - much more relevant than "12 lines of text".

My method is to take a screenshot of twelve lines of text and the sig, then compare heights in anything that will let me paste and move around images. Your sig:

Red line is the bottom of your current sig, purple lines are the top and bottom of the twelve lines of text (there's another red line at the top of your sig, but that's lined up with the top purple line, so you can't see it).

Of course, I'm not a mod, so it's not an official verdict, but it looks to me like your current sig is a little over 11 lines.

That was my goal anyways :smallwink:

Yup, look in the Rules and scroll down to Avatar And Signature Rules.

470 pix - Maximum Total Width of Images
120 pix - Maximum Total Height of Images
300 pix - Maximum Height of Images in Spoiler

No total width mention. Would keep it below screen stretching however.

Still doesn't seem to help much since it isn't said how many pixels to a line. They give an example of 120 pixels being 8 lines however, so I'm guessing 15 pixels high to a line.

*nods*

That seems to correspond with my deduction above.
