Hy playgrounders.

For the past few weeks i've been trying to put thick arms and legs on some oots-style characters and failing miserably.. whenever i try they just look odd.

Have you guys ever tried to draw thick arms or leggs on oots characters... if so could you please post some...

Help me Giantitp forums... you're my only hope :smallwink:

You seem to have won three Iron Avatarists contests, and your avatar looks rather good. That puts you beyond the scope of many of us.

You could always use a line thickness of 12 to 16 and give the edge soft-rounded.

That looks good, if it wasn't OoTS Art, maybe you could post the end rewsults so we could see the minutiae.

I agree the Powerpuff rubber hose limbs would work as a simple extension, although it's different enough that it shifts it to a whole new style (OotS have hands and feet; the Powerpuff girls don't)

I've got some similar things on my hard disk floating around. The problem is once I start moving away from stick figure limbs I stop thinking of them as "OotS Characters" and more as my own.

Here's one image I found quickly from a while back of my own doodled style, although looking at the sketch I see I've put the hand on backwards *slaps forehead*. Of course in that style I don't draw fingers, so maybe that was deliberate to see if it works.

If what you're looking for is thick muscly arms like the one on my avatar, I suggest modifying the arms of the half dragon from this comic (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0712.html). BY thinning out the distance between the muscles, it makes thinner, but realistic(ish) arms with muscles. I've even taken the muscles so thin that they barely look like muscly arms at all, but they were still thicker than sticks.

I've got my own take on Thick-arm Oots. Basically, I make the Arm stroke thicker and the same color of the skin. The hands, I ghetto-rigged from a Pentagon.

I find that using the line as a base for the curve and then going over it with the dip pen works well

Here's one image I found quickly from a while back of my own doodled style, although looking at the sketch I see I've put the hand on backwards *slaps forehead*. Of course in that style I don't draw fingers, so maybe that was deliberate to see if it works.

*snip*

I just have to say I love it

You could draw the arms as a stroke, thicken it, then Path->Stroke to Path, which creates an closed object of the stroke.

Now that I remember, (and finally get what this thread was about) I think I do have OotSy Arms and Legs.

http://s581.photobucket.com/albums/ss257/araveugnitsuga/AsunaAvatar.pngI kinda cheated by making the armour do the twist at the elbow.
http://s581.photobucket.com/albums/ss257/araveugnitsuga/GrimRangerAvatar.pngAgain cheating through the use of armour
http://s581.photobucket.com/albums/ss257/araveugnitsuga/EmperorBritanniaAvatar.pngThis time there is no bending on the elbow so it was easy.
http://s581.photobucket.com/albums/ss257/araveugnitsuga/DraeneiAvatar.pngIf I find the bigger size original I may post it, this one was annoying because of the arms, but at the end I think they came out quite good.

Also, on the OotS link, you can clearly see on the scene were the half-dragon comes down that the arm is jagged, IMHO a mistake on Rich's part.
