Force Mage: A mage that focuses its primary studies on spells with the force descriptor, but does not fail to continue studies in other areas.

Requirements:
Spell Casting: Ability to cast at least 1 third level spell with the force descriptor.
Caster Level: 5th
Skills: 8 ranks in Knowledge Arcana
Feats: Primary Casting score of at least 17.

HD: D4
Skills: Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Knowledge (Any), Profession (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), and Use Magic Device (Cha).
Skill Points: 4+Int Mod per level.

Level | BAB | FS | RS | WS | Special
1 | +0 | +0 | +0 | +2 | *+1 to Force Caster Level, Force Lore
2 | +0 | +0 | +0 | +3 | *+1 to Force Caster Level
3 | +1 | +1 | +1 | +3 |
4 | +1 | +1 | +1 | +4 | *+1 to Force Caster Level
5 | +2 | +1 | +1 | +4 | Force Spell Mastery
Class Features:
Spells: The Force mage continues to gain spells and spells per day as though continuing to gain levels in its original casting class.
Caster Level: The force mage continues to advance in caster level normally.
Force Caster Level: The force mage casts spells with the force descriptor as though it were one caster level higher in addition to its normal caster level for each time it gains this ability.
Force Lore: All of the force mages spells containing the force descriptor are increased in effectiveness by 1 for each level of Force Mage. Thus a 5th level wizard/5th level force mage casting magic missile would deal 1d4+6 per missile.
Force Spell Mastery: At level 5 the force mage is capable of casting force descriptor spells as though they had no limits, so long as it increases the spells level by one half the number of caster levels that would bring this into effect if the spell had no limits initially. (I apologize for bad wording.) Thus a level 15 Wizard/5 Force Mage casting magic missile using a 5th level spell slot, would create 9 missiles, each dealing 1d4+6 damage. (Waste of a 5th level slot.) Or 12 missiles using an 8th level spell slot. This would be the limit however, as its caster level tops out at 23 at level 20. Meaning it could not increase the number of missiles against until it found a way to increase its caster level by another 2 up to 25. At which point it would max out the spell with 13 missiles using a 9th level spell slot.

Mutliple missiles fire from in front of the caster, striking enemies with more energy than normal magic missiles. Each Missile strikes its target dealing 1d6+1 points of force damage.
The caster generates 3 missiles at caster level 5th and an additional missile per 3 caster levels, to a maximum of 8 missiles at cast level 20.
In addition to the damage dealt, this spell knocks the targets prone unless they succeed at a Reflex Save.
This spell otherwise functions like the spell Magic Missile from the PHB.
Force Armor:
Conjuration (Creation) <Force>
Level: Bard 3, Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Targets: Creature Touched
Duration: 1 hour per level.

Spell Resistance: No

A tangible, shimmering field of force surrounds the subject of the spell., providing an armor bonus to AC of 4+1 and an additional +1 per 3 caster levels above 5th to a maximum of +10 at caster level 20th.
This spell otherwise acts as the standard spell Mage Armor in the PHB.
Focus:A tiny replica of a suit of full plate to be worth no less than 50 gp.
Focused Ray:
Evocation <Force>
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S

Effect: Ray (Ranged Touch)
Duration: Instantaneous.
Saving Throw: none
Spell Resistance: Yes
Pointing your finger towards your target, a beam of translucent blue energy appears suddenly before you, connecting your finger with the target in a display of dazzling light that encloses the enemy. The ray deals 2d4 force damage per caster level to a maximum of 30d4 at caster level 15.
Dimensional Blade:
Conjuration (Teleportation, Creation) <Force>
Level: Sor/Wiz 8
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Special (See below)
Target: You
Duration: 1 round per level.
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes
By casting this spell the mage brings into existence blade that does not exist. This blade extends from the index finger of the mage and it the length of a standard longsword. This sword is made of pure force, and the caster is considered proficient in its use. This blade deals 4d6 damage at a range, and ignores bonuses to AC from Armor, Natural armor, and shields. It also ignores damage reduction, unless that damage reduction is versus force. If the target is immune to force based spells this spell has no effect on the target. The caster may strike any enemy within sight as a standard attack action for as long as this spell lasts, as the blade opens a dimensional rift such as that created by dimensional door. In melee it still has the above attributes. Attacking with this spell does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
Focus: A tiny platinum Masterwork Longsword, valued at no less than 500 gp.

The Force Mage looks at little powerful, and way, way too combative. A Force Mage class should have abilities that effect all types and uses of magical force...not just pure combat. This class is more of a Force Battle Mage.

The force mastery itself, looks odd....I'd have to play test that.

The Spells:

Improved magic missle and Improved mage armor are just boosts to the already made spells, nothing much to comment on.

But focused ray....is this an auto hit spell? So no save vs the damage? 30D4 is a lot of damage for a 5th level spell. This spell should require an attack roll, or allow a save for half damage or even negation. And the daze does not really fit....force spells don't 'daze' you....

Dimensional Blade looks a little broken, compare to Mord's sword for power. The idea of ignoring all armor is a bit crazy. And why does a Force spell 'open a dimensional door' that cuts people....that is not a Force effect then.

2d4 per caster level is not all that much compare to 4d6, 8d6, 12d6 for 3.
dice | Max Dam | spell level |Casterlevel for max
5d4+5| 25 | 1st | 9th
12d6| 72| 2nd | 8th
15d6| 90| 3rd | 15th
30d4| 120| 5th | 15th
That doesn't balance well?

I suppose I could make it a ranged touch ignoring amor bonuses. Force effects are not going to be deflected by a physical barrier, otherwise magic missile could actually miss someone in full plate.

The sword is not the only such spell that ignores armor, however, dodge, dex, deflection and other defenses still apply. Which is not the case for all or even close to all spells. I can give you a similar scale example if you would like. Also, the blade itself is made of force, the ranged attack made using the spells effect is not.

Force spells should not ignore armor. Magic missile is a 'special' spell to give low level wizards an attack spell.

Why would not a magical force be deflected by a physical barrier? Do you somehow think that 'force' = 'phase through solid matter'. And if 'force' did go right through armor, why would it not go right through the creature. You will note that other force spells don't ignore armor.

If you want wildly powerful spells, then they are fine.

There now the ray is ranged touch.
The sword will be level 8, damage will be keyed down. (4d6, period.)
