Reinholdt's Riveting and Rhetorical Questions:
[spoiler]What question would you like to be asked?

What's your number?
Preferably by something young and female.

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?

Responds to names and has eyelids.

What is the square root of Pi?

That knobbly part at the base of the tree.

What's your favorite OOTS strip?

Not a page, but the Order of the Scribble sequence. I love the crayons and the colours. Not the funniest strip, but I think I'd be more comfortable eating those pages than any others.

What's your favorite Erfworld strip?

Uhhhhm. Ooo, tough as I don't remember Book One right now. Probably when the Archon's dance battle back with the Mario Paint sprites. That was really out there.

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?

Real me curses more, is much quieter around strangers, and much handsomer. Ladies, you ain't seen nothing here.

Sadistic choice time! You must choose to save either the life of your most loved one or the lives of a large group of strangers. Which do you choose?

Well my most loved one is smart enough not to get herself in such a situation anyway so that's a moot point.
The real sadistic choice is whether I love my best friend more than my pocket watch. And I don't think I'm comfortable answering that.

What is your favorite word?

By sheer volume? Dude.
By sound? Cow. Say it any way you like, great word.

What is your least favorite word?

Probably 'bro'. Fine for jokes, but the people who use it in all seriousness tend to be scum. And I lived with one for a year. Real scum.

What makes you enthusiastic?

Nerdy things. I don't think anyone sees me get as passionate as I do when talking about good video games or Star Wars stuff.
What I never get asked about is my writing which is probably fine because I'd talk anyone's ear of if they let me. Literally, off. I know enough words to carve flesh from bone. Fear me, puny cat... thing.

What disappoints you?

My friends. Sounds bad but one of my best friends is a real idiot most the time despite being smart enough to make better decisions.

What sound do you love?

The Mario 1-Up Jingle. Or women singing. Both are pretty great.

What sound do you hate?

Squeaky marker pens. That kinda noise makes my flesh crawl out from under my eyes to form a new, better civilisation where these noises no longer exist.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

Professional Sexy Man. I think I'd be perfect.
I think this question would work better if I had a profession anyway.

What profession would you not like to participate in?

Aquarium Cleaner. That's my Hell right there.

If heaven exists what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

"Dude, platypuses. What's up with them?"

...why catmuffins? :smallconfused:

I like to pet my food.
...that's only half a joke.
The other half is a punchline HA CHA CHA.

How many avatars do you have?

Easily 30 odd. Not all of them Cat-Muffins funnily enough.

Do you eat muffins IRL?

Whenever I can. Cherry muffins or chocolate chip are best. And just chocolate chip. Those double chocolate things are horrible.

What color(s) do you prefer to wear?

Colour.
Through college my outfits were just various blacks and whites. I actually have like real T-shirts now so I don't blend in with a piano.

What do you like to collect?

Love, Lego, and Pringle Tubes.
Sun no longer comes through my window because I accidentally filled the windowside with tubes.

Do you enjoy watching the Weather Channel? :smalltongue:

There's a weather channel?
Well, I suppose you need something to do on a rainy day.

Can I stay with you when I go globetrotting?

If I'm at Uni or have my own place then, sure. If not, nope, sorry.

If not, can we at least hang out?

Oh totally. I think UKitP proved that I can be myself around Playgrounders so I wouldn't go Coma-Shy around you.

If not, may I poke you, once, in the blueberry?

I'm going to interpret this at its flirtiest level so baby you can poke me wherever you like.

What did it feel like when for a whole week everyone wanted to be you and turned into a catmuffin?

Groovy. I kinda want another one to happen but I don't think I'm around Friendly Banter enough to get recognised on sight any more.

Favorite color?

Blue. Or green. Or red. Or white. Or yellow.
No... never yellow.

Favorite fruit?

Ew, fruit.

Favorite ice cream?

Ew, ice cream.

What is your theme song?

This. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDMfpbdbHWg)

What is your alignment?

Neutral Good.
Alternately: Awesome Sexy.

What is your Magic: The Gathering color?

White. I don't know why.

What is the meaning of life?

To be awesome to one another.

What are your thoughts on:

Love?
Friendship?
Freedom?

Love = Grooviest
Friendship = Groovier
Freedom = Groovy

Do you have any suggestions for my list of questions?

Never number them. I hate numbers. They owe me money. I'm not sure how much.

Wow. Okay. Hit me again.

gw's Questions of Questionable Intent

1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?

Not really. I've had traits in fictional characters I'd be attracted to, but I don't think I've ever thought of it beyond that.
Of course this is because Visas Marr is a totally real person who exists and everything.
(this is a joke haha funny)

2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?

I'm 6 foot tall and I can fit in a washing machine.
Also I'm the best writer on a Creative Writing Degree, I think that's worth being proud about.

3. Roses or orchids?

Water lilies.
Or trains. Trains are pretty cool.

4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?

Ask my friends, they'd say Pringles.
Ask me, I'd say insomnia.
In reality, I'm over insomnia now so it's definitely Pringles.

5. How did you get to be so awesome?

Everybody thought I was already so I had to rise to meet their standards.
Then I exceeded them and beat up Nixon. Or... something.

6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?

Playing with Lego.
Proper way to support weight in arches and arch-like structures.

7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?

Vicky. This means Disneyland is all ours, just as planned.

8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?

Jim Henson.
The man's probably my hero.

9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?

Being a great novelist.
Or beating Nicolas Cage in a boxing match.

10. Ga! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)

I like this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-5ZdJ1usrw&feature=related)

11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?

Friendship.
Befriend him, then we'll team up on Tokyo.

12. Beards or babies?

Why is this a choice. I've got the first and women want my second. Give me a cigar.

13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?

Man, I did that when I was a teenager but I totally forgot what it actually meant after a while and now I've just totally forgotten it.
How about... Narcissisright. Being worthy of the praise you lavish on yourself.
So, me.

14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?

What you say when you obviously aren't Shakespeare.

15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?

Does Elvis count? I don't really read much poetry or listen to too many old songs.
Although, Mack the Knife might count.

16. Favorite mythological monster?

Minotaurs. I have something of an obsession with the story of Theseus and the Labyrinth. I don't entirely understand why, but I sure hope my future children can escape the maze I build in our basement or I'll never be able to accept them as mine.

17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! :smallfurious: Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?

You'll be inside the meat grinder, I'll be by the operating controls.

18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?

By pressing that big red 'on' button.

19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?

I'm cool with either, dawg. Comedy is perhaps my best so it works well, but if anyone's got any serious ones I'll answer it. Never really talk much about myself, could be fun.

20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?

Justify my Playground-Celebrity Reputation. Or maybe pretend I'm still popular.

Do you have a favorite author? If so, who?

I'm told my own work is incredibly similar to Terry Pratchett so naturally I like him, but otherwise my favourite would have to be Phillip K. ****.
**** approaches sci fi not as an excuse to show off weird aliens or amazing technology but as a way to ask real questions about humanity.
My tutor last year actually noticed how much I like him and invited me along to this kind of meeting of the minds of scholars and the like, dedicated entirely to ****'s life and his works, but I was too scared to go. I'm a fan, but I couldn't compete with those kinds of minds.

What was the forum like when you joined?

Smaller, and quieter. I wouldn't say better, but I certainly do miss some of the old atmosphere. Part of it would be folks either growing up and moving on, or getting older and having less to spend here.
Also, I was an idiot then. Don't miss that.

Why did you pick what you did for your avatar?

It's a complicated tale series of shenanigans and Sherlock-worthy sinister mystery.
Actually I was hungry one day so Sneak made me a muffin, then I felt like a cat one day say Ceika added ears and tail. THERE MY GRIM HISTORY.

Why did you pick Jibar as your name?

It's just a random selection of letters that sound good together. It's pretty unique too. Search for Jibar on google, 9/10 profiles will be.

Do you, in fact, have any cheese here at all?

Only in wraps. Which I've eaten. Mwahaha.

Will you go quietly when they come for you?

I'd say they already had and I very much did not go quietly.

What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?

Running. Seriously, it's safer dawg.

Are you running to something, or from something?

Both.
And before you ask to/from what, the answer is Danger.

What's the magic word?

Expelliarmus. I'm sorry, I mean Deuxexarmus. The spell that works no matter what.

What happened to the write-up you were going to do of that Once Upon a Time story?

Completely forgot.
When I say people need to bother me to do something, I mean you need to be like beside my bed when I wake up staring at me bothering me.

Or the Catmuffinominicon?

Conflict of interests. I like filling it full of pop culture and goofiness, but truth be told I'd love to actually get a children's series out of it which means I'd have to really crack down on it and make it consistent goofiness.
Kinda put to one side until I'm in such a position I can happily make something decent of it outside of in-jokes and references.

Why do you like gigantic monsters so much?

Tokyo has it coming. I don't know why and I don't know when but I feel this. In my soul.

What is your opinion on the topic of the internet?

It's amazing just how it's changed the world and how it will continue to change. I believe people who know more about this stuff would say we've switched from an industrial revolution to a digital revolution and I'm okay with this.

If you didn't have internet access at this very moment, what would you do?

Cry. Deeply and unashamedly.
Actually, funny story, where I lived for my first year of Uni the internet was incredibly difficult with me and I often went without any kind of real internet connection for weeks at a time. Considering I hated the people I lived with, couple of nights I did spend on the verge of tears.
Wait, that wasn't so funny.
Actual funny story, I once was walking past a bus stop when an African guy lunged towards me and said "RARGH! Watch out for the lions!" and then sat back down.

What is your favourite song right now?

Right now? This. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr45FKJOhEs) I gots me tha dancing FEVER.
Or maybe this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW-JgT8jI_Y) Maybe. Who knows.

1977. What is your favourite thing that happened in that year? If not favourite... most interesting.

Star Wars.
This shouldn't be a question, you should simply be reminding me 1977 was when Star Wars came out. When Jedis were BORN!

As for a question, what song would play during your climatic boss battle?

This, probably. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96Op4qMXBZg&feature=related)
Because if I was the lead character in a video game it'd be a weird platformer action game with gigantic bosses and decent jumping mechanics. The final boss would be fought on a stage and the music would start playing after you technically beat the boss but he activates a cutscene to grow more powerful so you grab the uber powerup, become invincible and start the beatdown that accompanies this song.

...I miss platformers.

If we're talking Ponies, no. Don't want anything to do with them. I've seen things man. Terrible things.

What is your favorite animal?

Koalas. They're so wuffly fluffly wonderful. And they're the cutest creature that naturally digests poison.

What is your favorite thing to talk about?

Critical takes on video games.
Or just listening. I'm sensitive like that.

What is your favorite thing to think about?

Past loves.

If you could be a cyborg, which body part goes first?

2011-04-06, 05:23 PM
What was the first video game you played?

Kirby's Dream Land on the Gameboy.
It belonged to my cousin. When I got my own Gameboy I spent 2 years odd trying to find my own copy of the game but I never did.
Bought Kirby's Adventure on the Virtual Console last year. No regrets.

What is your favourite video game?

Oh Crap.
Uh... umm...
Oh God. Oh God.

Ocarina of Time is fantastic, and not just in a "My First Zelda" kind of way. Everything about it really is phenomenal design, characters, world, levels, weapons, items. The pacing is great, the music is great, the bosses are some of the best the series has seen. Twilight Princess copied a lot of it all in an attempt to replicate the success and came up short by ignoring some of the subtleties to it.
Jak and Daxter has so much of my playtime in it. Really, it does everything a platformer should do right and is such a glorious example of those late 90s, early 2000s platformer golden age. We don't get games like this anymore. It's all about variety in play style, moves and objectives.
Knights of the Old Republic II has so many things going for it in terms of character and story and for an RPG that's exactly what it should be aiming for. I've played it many many times and I'm still not sick of it, unlike all the other RPGs I've played.
Lylat Wars is the pinnacle of pacing to me. I don't think you'll find a game with better timing and set pieces to it. Especially when you take the hard route straight off. Blast through a city and hunt down the captain of the invading force, then stampede through a naval battle before taking an experimental new ship, dive under the water into these dank horrible environments as you try to survive against these horrible undersea creatures... No lie, I will buy a 3DS just to play this with some updated graphics. Worth a console to me, easy.
But... well... Assassin's Creed II is probably my favourite. Brotherhood took everything II did and improved upon it but... I like Venice and Florence. And that's what's so great about it, about this series. Nobody does settings like these, nobody does combat like this, nobody does platforming like this. II has down everything I love and oh God I want to play it now.

If you could take a bath in any liquid, which one would you choose?

I... what, no, ew. Ew. I literally cannot think of anything that wouldn't be disgusting eugh. There's a reason we bath in water.

If you could be a cyborg, which body part goes first?

If I say eyes, are they convincing replicas?
I think everyone at the last UK meetup can attest I need them, but I don't want to get any freaky deaky robo-eyes.
If they can't, then I'd like a machine gun instead of my belly button.

Cake.
And no cutlery.

What's the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?

You let a muffin rise more and generally fill it with your ingredients of choice rather than lather the top with 'em.

Whats the deal, you're some kind of catmuffin thing?

Basically.

Do you taste more like cat or more like muffin?

I don't know what I taste like. You'd have to ask the ladies.

If you were STARVING would you eat yourself?

Oh hai guiz. Let's ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS!

Reinholdt's Riveting and Rhetorical Questions:

What question would you like to be asked?
'What question would you like to be asked?'

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?
Ability to take care of itself... >.>

What is the square root of Pi?
√π
Yeah, I'm boring.

What's your favorite OOTS strip?
Strip 400. My ship has come in, indeed.

What's your favorite Erfworld strip?
This a one. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0140.html)

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?
The slightly more open me.

Sadistic choice time! You must choose to save either the life of your most loved one or the lives of a large group of strangers. Which do you choose?
I'd take a third option: let them all die! Wahahahaha!
...
Wait.

What is your favorite word?
Defenestrate!

What is your least favorite word?
Jowl. *shudders*

What makes you enthusiastic?
Um...

What disappoints you?
The world.
...
Well that was depressing.

What sound do you love?
Cello. You are a lovely, lovely instrument.

What sound do you hate?
When people are talking and then they've clearly got a frog in their throat or something because their voice is getting croakier and fainter and they're clearly struggling to form words, but they keep trying to talk anyway and you end up cringing because their voice keeps getting stranger and more labored but they won't just STOP. FOR ONE SECOND. AND CLEAR YOUR THROAT ALREADY. GODS!

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
ANYTHING. PLEASE.
...
Eh. A writer I guess.

What profession would you not like to participate in?
Eh...? A construction worker, I guess?

What color(s) do you prefer to wear?
*looks at avatar*
*looks at signature*
*looks at text color*
*looks at Reinholdt's introduction*
Guess. :smalltongue:

What do you like to collect?
I'm not much of a collector.

How many avatars do you have?
Way too many to count. Being an avatarist yourself helps with that. You don't have to go through all the pain of posting in the Request thread, waiting three months for someone to pick up your request, then waiting another three months to find your avatarist has left the Playground. :smalltongue:

Will you ever attend GenCon?
... Maybe? I live in completely the wrong country after all, but who knows?

What type of chocolate do you prefer?
Dark!

Do you enjoy watching the Weather Channel? :smalltongue:
Eh, no.

Where's that avatar you promised me? :smalltongue:
Over the rainbow. So start looking, pal!
...
>.>

Do you, in fact, have any cheese here at all?
Yes.

Will you go quietly when they come for you?
NEVAR!!!!
...
Yeah, okay.

What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?
Neutrino 3000.
Hey, you never said it had to be a real weapon! :smalltongue:

Are you running to something, or from something?
Yes.

What's the magic word?
Alla Peanut Butter Sandwiches!

Um... uh... er... ???
Artistic skill, maybe. With words and colors. Music and cooking, not so much.

3. Roses or orchids?
Orchids, yo.

4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?
Survival instinct, at a guess.

5. How did you get to be so awesome?
Oh, well, you know. Some people are just born this way, I guess. And by some people, I mean me.

6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?
Practice: It works, bitches. SO DO IT. :smallmad:

7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?
My best friend, I guess. I don't have an SO, so I don't get to mention them. v.v

8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?
Uh...?

9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?

15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?
Sadly, I don't get old-fashioned songs stuck in my head.

16. Favorite mythological monster?
Nagas.

17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! :smallfurious: Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?
Under the sea! As is appropriate for us of opposite dispositions, I shall start near the surface, and you shall start one mile down.

18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?
I would certainly hope so. :smalltongue:

19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?
SILLEH!

20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?
Because.

How did you find GITP?
Uh... I can't remember, actually. I was linked to OotS somewhere.

What's your favourite place in the real world?
???

And not in the real world?
Sanctaphrax would be pretty cool.

Favourite book?
Good Omens.

Favourite movie?
Up.

Favourite TV serie?
Battlestar Galactica (re-imagined)

Orange juice, pulp or no pulp?
Pulp is an abomination which must be annihilated.

Ever knocked over a biker's bike?
No.

Your least used arm is now replaced by a mechanical one, what special ability does it have?
LASER POINTER!

Why did you pick "Kid Kris" as you name?
My name is Kris, and I was a Kid. Do the math.
...
Actually it was because I was going through a sidekick phase at the time. I'm not anymore, and I'm thinking of changing it, but I can't think of anything yet that reflects me while still keeping the Added Alliterative Appeal.

Why did you choose what you did for your avatar?
I like devils. :smalltongue:

Is there anything that you think people should know about you that they wouldn't find out from just reading your posts?
If so, what?
Not particularly? *shrug*

Favorite color?
.... Green.

Favorite fruit?
Mangoes!

Favorite ice cream?
"Mint-choco-chip.

What is your theme song?
A masterpiece. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KaOrSuWZeM)

What is your alignment?
Lawful INSANE, would probably be the best choice.

What is your Magic: The Gathering color?
Ugh. These things. The choices are always so laughably transparent and stereotyped, it's not even funny. Well, gotta answer somehow...
...
Grey, I guess. Grey's good.

What is the meaning of life?
*insert pop culture numerical reference here*

What are your thoughts on:

Love?
Friendship?
Freedom?

Pretty cool things.

What is the color of your aura?
Grey. Again.

What does your essence taste like?
Like blueberry syrup.

What’s your elemental affinity?
FIAH!!!! =D

Who would you ask to the next Playground Prom, if we had one?
Um... Oh damn. The playgrounder I would have asked previously is a playgrounder no more... Happyturtle is a classy lady, who I would totally ask to the next Playground Prom.

1977, the year. What does this make you think of? So far, I've been very disappointed with everyone's answers. Their answers... do not reflect my tastes. If someone gets the right thing, I will be one happy bunny.
I can settle with you being an unhappy bunny.

Speaking of which, did you know that bunnies can SCREAM!!?!?
No, but I am distinctly unsurprised.

I didn't.
K2O

Sweet Dreams, by Eurythmics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQzG-3Vagrk&feature=player_profilepage), the Sucker-punch soundtrack version. What do you think?

Hmm... that was yesterday, so I can't quite remember... musta been this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka_sHy9cVH0) or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fP4ZgaqSy8), can't remember which one I listened to last.

How do you get your avatars looking so slick and professional?

Um... practice? Natural talent? Not using Inkscape? I don't have a clue of course, since I don't have a comparison with other people's methods.

Have any of your Five Playgrounder thingies been about me?
Nope! But you can pretend number 5 of this one (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10790417&postcount=133) is to you if you like. Because it's to no one. I just put it there because I couldn't think of a 5th thing to say to someone. >.>

If so, was it good, bad or neutral?
Any, I suppose, depending on your point of view, how you read it.

What's your favourite RPG, in any medium?
I've played and played KotOR II so many times it's not even funny. More recently, I've taken a liking to my copy of Monster Hunter Freedom, partly because I (finally) managed to get over myself and kick Velocidrome's ass to get to the actually fun parts of the game. Of course, now I'm stuck on the Cephadrome because the damn fish won't pop out of the sand long enough for us to have a proper scrap-a-like, and I'm a crap aim with sonic bombs/crag shots. CEPHADROME! :smallfurious::smallfurious:

What's your favourite type of game (any)?
Uh... for computer games, tie between RPGs and RTS. There's not much of a culture for tabletop gaming around here, which I find unfortunate, and as far as PbP goes, I'm practically married to mah Freeform buddies (it's the type of marriage where I spend long periods away at work, coming home late in the night to poke listlessly at pieces of gelatinous steak while complaining loudly about how there's no spark in the relationship anymore, but am completely happy with anyway).

We've had zombies, and now vampires. What do you think will be the next ridiculously-popular-to-the-point-where-it's-ruined undead?
Land of the Wights, perhaps? And who couldn't picture this (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG167.jpg) charming fellow as the newest heartthrob of a generation of tweenage girls?

What's your favorite genre of your favorite form of media?
Uh... um... bwa? You're cruel. :smallfrown:

What do you think of abstract art?
Depends on the individual artist.

What was the last book you read? Was it any good?
To completion? I reread Good Omens. Of course it was.

What would you like people here to know about you?
Nothing in particular.

Could you pet me and call me a pretty birdy?

First Question: Still, I don't actually have one, but let's twist this question to suit my own ends. Post-Apocalyptic fiction! I'm writing my Extended Essay on it! But it's hard to find good examples. So suggest some. Literary value unnecessary: it'd help for the essay, but I'm looking around for my own enjoyment as well.

Second Question: No one in particular. I just make a habit of not making sweeping generalizations or forming block opinions of entire genres/forms. Except romantic comedies. Screw romantic comedies.

Next up, we have the magical genie in the bottle who refuses to grant my wishes (for good reasons I suppose), Djinn_in_Tonic! Give him a rub!

You've never ASKED for any wishes! Don't blame ME!

What question would you like to be asked?
This one.

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?
You know, I've never really thought about it. Something cuddly and not requiring to much 24/7 attention, I suppose. Cats are nice for both these reasons.

What is the square root of Pi?
Blueberry. And it's delicious.

What's your favorite OOTS strip?
Hm. Tough one. Possibly the one where Haley got her voice back, if only because that arc was really annoying 'cause she couldn't talk. There are to many good ones though...

What's your favorite Erfworld strip?
Ansom's death at the hands of the Twoll. I'm not sure why, but I loved that moment.

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?
I'm a magical wish-granting genie. So pretty accurately.

Well, to actually be truthful, it relates pretty well. I think I'm close to the same person in text as I am in person...sometimes a bit acidic, but ultimately a nice guy trying to be helpful whenever he can. But I may be biased, 'cause I have no idea how you guys view me.

Sadistic choice time! You must choose to save either the life of your most loved one or the lives of a large group of strangers. Which do you choose?
...WHY must I choose? This is the situation where I try my damnedest to do both. The circumstances are important though.

What is your favorite word?
I don't really have "favorites," honestly. Just part of my personality. But "quail" is a word I quite enjoy.

What is your least favorite word?
"Fluids" has always bothered me. As has "luscious," for unknown reasons.

What makes you enthusiastic?
Swing Dancing. I f---ing LOVE it.

What disappoints you?
Not succeeding at something I know I'm able to. Also, missing my dancing evening due to weather and/or sickness.

What sound do you love?
Trickling water, but only in a natural setting. The sound of water over rocks is really relaxing to me.

What sound do you hate?
Rubbing a balloon. This grates on my nerves to an immense extent.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Hm...pretty much anything, honestly. I love the idea of being a jack-of-all-trades (and already sort of am).

What profession would you not like to participate in?
Magical space prostitute. The "magical space" part is probably okay though.

What color(s) do you prefer to wear?
I tend to wear blues, greens, and reddish-oranges normally. When I dress up, it's in black pants and a black vest, with a brightly colored dress shirt (purple or red for preference).

What do you like to collect?
I have a small collection of strange dice, but that's not really a "collection." I also pick up playing cards off the street and keep them in my wallet. Only face cards though, and I'm not sure where the habit started.

How many avatars do you have?
To many to count. At least two variations of the Djinn for every major (and many minor) holidays, as well as a bunch of others for random reasons.

Will you ever attend GenCon?
Maybe? I never remember what GenCon actually is. I'd need people to go with either way though.

What type of chocolate do you prefer?
I'm not a big chocolate fan, honestly. Solid chocolate actually causes my teeth to suffer huge spikes of pain. Just something in how my nerves are structured.

Do you enjoy watching the Weather Channel? :smalltongue:
No. I'm the Djinn...I just change the damn weather. I don't need a channel.

Good whiskey? I drink a lot of Crown Royal, but that's only 'cause it's not that expensive around here. I've had a glass of a $200 whiskey once though...THAT was beautiful.

Do you, in fact, have any cheese here at all?
Sadly, I do not. If I did, I'd like it to be a good aged Cheddar.

Will you go quietly when they come for you?
I'll not go at all...they'll never find me.

What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?
Hm. While I'm a fencer at heart, I'd feel most comfortable with the machete in my room. It's 2 feet long, light, durable, and has a saw on the reverse side of the blade. No zombie would stand a chance.

Are you running to something, or from something?
To something, I hope. I don't frighten easily, so if I'm running from something? It'll be something DAMN scary, and I don't want that.

What's the magic word?
Quail.

1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?
I have a healthy man-crush on Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly. Yes, I'm confident in my sexuality. :smalltongue:

2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?
Tough one. Probably my ability to see all sides of a situation, and handle troubling situations without making them worse. Basically, I'm proud of my ability to deal with people.

3. Roses or orchids?
Orchids for preference.

4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?
Carbohydrates, apparently. On a less physical note, I'm interested in everything, so I thrive on change and discovery. Also, I have some a really strange personal drive to just do things, so that helps.

5. How did you get to be so awesome?
:smallcool: <-- That should explain it. I was always this way.

6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?
I honestly don't remember. My early memories (up to about age 14, honestly) blur together...and I was 12 then. So I don't know.

On another note, on my 20th birthday I received a letter from my 1st grade teacher, who apparently had us write letters to our older selves. Mine said the following: "You've probably done a lot more interesting and fun things than me, and I don't have anything to tell you that you don't already know. The rest of this paper I'll leave blank for YOU to fill in with the interesting things that have happened to you."

7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?
At this point in my life, I can't actually thing of the right answer to that one. I have no single person who I'd really, really want around over everyone else. Closest I can get is my buddy Chase or my friend Emily.

8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?
Epictetus, the father of Stoicism. While not really a stoic, I love the philosophy.

9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?
Talk to me in 30 years. For now? That's to far in the future to worry about.

10. Ga! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)
I don't know any lolcats, actually. My life is empty?

11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?
Omnipotence. I'm practical like that.

12. Beards or babies?
Um...babies? Beards only work on certain people.

13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?
No, although I use the word "technically" in ways it's not technically meant to be used.

...Actually, I like. I used the word "budda" to mean "what is that" from the age of 5 months to about 1.5 years.

14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?

15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?
I do Swing and Lindy. 1940's songs are ALWAYS stuck in my head. Right now it's the King Porter Stomp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpzOFpPum6w&feature=related) by Benny Goodman.

16. Favorite mythological monster?
Djinni? Duh. After that, I'm a fan of dragons.

17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! :smallfurious: Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?
Somewhere that contains copious amounts of your secret weakness. Barring that, the heart of the sun sounds like a good place. Tomorrow at noon?

18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?
By utilizing your secret weakness to an almost silly extent.

19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?
The silly ones are more fun, but the serious ones actually reveal more about me.

20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?
'cause GitP is full of interesting people, but I never seem to actually find time to talk to them. Now they can get a jump-start on knowing ME.

Are you trying to take over the world?
No. *shifty eyes*

A combination of great looks, incredible wit, and mostly staggering humility. :smalltongue:

Are you so awesome?
That's for you guys to tell me.

Heh. I'm not actually a fan of gin and tonics. I'll drink them, but I much prefer a good whiskey, some nice absinthe, or the Sazarac cocktail. Rum and cokes (or just anything with rum, honestly) don't go amiss either.

...wait. How could I have forgotten the delicious kick of a Four Horsemen? That goes near the top of the list.

Can you tell me how to properly enjoy British absurdist humor instead of deride it as I do?
Step 1: Become British.
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit!

Out of the crew of Serenity, which among the females would you most be willing to profess your undying love to (River's feet count as female)?
Kaylee. Was this supposed to be anything but a forgone conclusion?

Not until you mentioned it, no. Now? :smallfurious:

White Russians? Yes or otherwise?
Not as a first drink, but I tend to end bar-hopping expeditions in Philly with a White Russian or two at Roosevelt's. It just feels right.

If you had a Colt M1911, a H&K G3 and a FN P90, what would you name them?
Bruce, Viceroy Plinkly St. Claire, and Jacquelyn Poirot Mirabelle, for no particular reason.

If one of them is not Mirabelle, you lost. Go back and start again.
I did. The FN P90 is now named Mirabelle.

If you were forced to choose between your soul mate and myself for all eternity, why would you choose me?

This one. It just has a lot of personality.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Djinn_in_Tonic/th_SybiloftheBlindedEyeAvatar.png

What is your favourite of your avatars?
I love the simplicity of this one, although the classic Djinn is close behind.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Djinn_in_Tonic/StickDjinnColorSmall.png

And the classic...

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Djinn_in_Tonic/Djinn_in_Tonic.png

What's your favourite avatar by someone else?
Rutskarn made this one for me, and I love it.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Djinn_in_Tonic/th_8bde.jpg

There's also a great one someone's got of an evil zombie Roy by Helmhammer (or a similar name...I honestly can't remember). It's beautiful.

Who do you think is the best avatarist?
I've always loved Dr. Bath, but the aforementioned Hammer-whatever guy was incredible. I was also stunned to learn a few months ago that I was apparently one of the guys who inspired Dr. Bath to start. Didn't know I'd been around that long, or was that inspiring!

Why haven't you been making avatars much lately?
Lack of direct requests, and general lack of really interesting requests that others don't take up. I only take on the ones that inspire me, to be honest.

What is your name?
Michael Sloan. Figured enough of you are part of the GitP facebook group that I can just up and tell you all.

What is your quest?
Right now? To graduate even though my college just cut my major. I'm already a year and a half behind due to transfer hijinks, and I'd hate to fall further back.

What... is your favourite colour?
I don't really have one, to be honest.

Is it just a flesh wound?
Yes. KEEP FIGHTING!

What's your favourite book and/or author?
I love Alexander Dumas, Arthur Conan Doyle, Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman.

What is your favourite book, film and food?
See above for books, although I also love works of philosophy.

Movies are wide and varied, but The Sting, The Incredibles, Ball of Fire, Stardust, and Cool Runnings are at the top of the list. There are really to many to list.

I love sushi, Indian food, and Thai food, although I'll eat just about anything that doesn't stare back at me.

Have you ever been out of your country?
Yep. I'm a US native who has been to Germany, England, Spain, and Canada, but, sadly, never anywhere else.

If so, at what point was it driven home that you weren't in your country anymore?
Getting lost in Toledo (Spain), and being unable to understand a good 30% of the directions needed to find our way back.

Also? All the old guys in speedos at German public pools. :smalleek:

If not, w Where do you most and least want to visit?
I'd love to get to some countries in Asia, primarily parts of China, which I find incredibly beautiful.

I'd least like to visit specific parts of Africa and the Middle East, 'cause...well...there's a bit to much political turmoil for me to want to holiday there at the moment. :smallfrown:

A teacher once told me I was "to British" in the way I handled things. Yes, and I rather enjoyed it. Not my favorite of his works, but a fun little piece in its own right.

If you had to change your forum name, :smalleek: what would you change it to?
First off, that's a frightening though...I remember getting a several PMs when I posted in the Name Change thread from people concerned an institution was vanishing. ALL I DID WAS MAKE THE "I" LOWERCASE, PEOPLE!

...Anyway. I'd probably change it to "Djinn in Tonic," although I'd miss the underscores. :smalltongue:

To actually answer the question, my other usernames are BuckledSwashes, Broiled_Yak, and Gideon_Gideonson, so one of those would most likely be used. There may be others.

Have you ever seen a manchild throw a temper tantrum?
Yes. My old roommate did this occasionally. I tended to smack him down.

Which reminds me of the story about him that I find hilarious. His family is one of those Old Money Virginia families that sort of reminds you of Gone With the Wind. However, due to boarding school in Maine, he has no trace of a southern accent...unless he's ordering fried chicken at a restaraunt or cafeteria, at which point he suddenly lapses into the single best southern gentleman's drawl I've ever heard. What's better is that he's entirely unaware that he does this, and is always surprised when we crack up.

Need I say more?

Favorite color?
Already answered, I believe. Again, I don't really have one.

Favorite fruit?
Hm. Pomegranate or Raspberries.

Favorite ice cream?
There was an Oatmeal Raisin ice cream I used to get at a place near my old college. Sounds strange, but it was delicious.

What is your theme song?
Damn good question. You'll have to ask people who see me enter rooms what music should be playing. I have no idea.

What is your alignment?
Chaotic Good, leaning slightly towards both Lawful and Neutral at times.

What is your Magic: The Gathering color?
Blue.

What is the meaning of life?
Life itself. Does it have to have any specific meaning?

What are your thoughts on: Love?
It's a very complicated emotion, and people tend to oversimplify it. Another thing that bothers me is people assuming that it's somehow limited...I can honestly say that I love almost all of the people I call friends, and I don't think this dilutes the emotion for any of my family and/or any significant other I eventually have. The idea that love is sacred, or that love is limited, or that it shouldn't be spread whenever it can be strikes me as rather close-minded.

I could write at least a 10-page paper here off the top of my head, but you guys don't really want to read that, I don't think. Suffice to say, my opinions on the matter are somewhat unusual and rather strong.

What are your thoughts on: Friendship?
Friendship is an amount of love (from "man, I love being around this person/talking to this person" to "I would do anything for this person") that simply doesn't have romantic involvement. If I don't honestly love some aspect of a person, I'm usually not friends with them. They're just an acquaintance who might be fun to have around on occasion.

What are your thoughts on: Freedom?
...I can't even summarize these. I'm sorry.

What is the color of your aura?
Probably a rather vibrant shade of light blue or light orange. Don't ask me why.

What does your essence taste like?
Pomegranate. Again, don't ask. :smalltongue:

What’s your elemental affinity?
I'm a mix of Fire, Water, and Air. Little to no Earth.

Who would you ask to the next Playground Prom, if we had one?
Hm. Of the opposite gender...well, I don't know many female playgrounders, actually. The only one that comes to mind who I've talked to enough to invite (and isn't currently dating Darth Mario) is Salvonus, but I'm not sure she's even around much any more.

If we're going gender neutral, either Darth Mario, Lord Gareth, or Nexus R.C. Mina. Maybe Dogmantra or Jibar, just 'cause they're handsome fellows.

Are you part of any other online communities?
I was sort of one of the top guys from the old WotC Map of the Planes forum, and used to do a decent amount of homebrew and char op on the WotC boards. Other than that...not really.

How often do you clean out your PM box?
When it's full. See two questions down, actually...

What fictional character do you most identify with?
Another really good question that, sadly, I can't think of an answer to. There are to many of them.

Say, why did you request a pony style avatar and subsequently forgot to check the tread to see if someone made it for you?PM also didn't seem to come through[/B]

A combination of forgetfulness and not checking my PM box in a while, apparently. I'm sorry about that...I just checked it out, and it's definitely sufficient. Not quite what I had in mind, but it'll do perfectly. Thanks!

When you came to join the playground forum, did you catch up on all the previous comics first or just start writing?
I'm most active in the homebrew and gaming forums (homebrew first), so I actually joined for those. Started reading the comic a few weeks in.

When assembling a puzzle, do you complete the edges first or just sort them into color piles?
Neither. I pick a piece at random and assemble several competing sections, which I then join together.

Which childhood toy do you most regret not having anymore?
None, actually. I've kept the ones I really enjoyed around in the attic for if I ever have kids myself. So if I really miss one, well...I guess I still have it.

Scalding hot shower or somewhat tepid?
Scalding for preference. I dislike tepid showers with a burning passion.

Do you lie on personality tests for more entertaining results?
No, but I do occasionally take personality tests as my RPG characters.

This stuff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977), and a lot of other stuff.

What if I told you that it involved the phrase "did you no wrong 3:09". Does that bring anything to mind?
No, 'cause that's not my primary era of music, nor a band I know particularly well. I do my research though, as this answer should indicate.

What was the last song you listened to? Link, if appropriate?
Non Stop Flight, by Artie Shaw. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFZhAKoZvaQ) As I said...I love 1940's Swing.

Do you think your country looks really weird if you hold a map upside down? Try it!
I have tried it. It really does.

Who is Patrick O'Brian?
The author of the incredibly awesome Aubrey–Maturin series. Everyone should know this. If you don't, do yourself a favor and find a copy of Master and Commander. Do it now. I'll wait.

I'm rather uncomfortable with heights, but I don't really mind them provided they're not shaky. Had to leap off a 20 foot ladder once to avoid a swarm of hornets though...I hit the ground, rolled, and was running in under a second. So no, I don't hate ladders unless there are horrible circumstances around it.

If someone let you out of the bottle, and you had the power to grant wishes, would you twist and contort them, or be nice about it?
I'd be nice about it. I'm a fair Djinn, and if they let me out of my bottle, then they get the wishes. As I just joked about to someone first though, they have to be willing to rub my bottle three times. Make of that what you will. :smalltongue:

I'm not sure what I'd do with a million dollars, actually. Whatever portion I choose to keep will get me out of this damn state, and then be stowed away to accrue interest. gw's Questions of Questionable Intent

1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?
Yes, too many to name.
2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?

3. Roses or orchids?
Orchids, less cliché and more pun potential.
4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?
My loving deity.
5. How did you get to be so awesome?
See above answer.
6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?
I was in elementary school, and I would tell myself to ignore what the others said. Nothing they say can bring you down.
7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?

8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?
Moses, George Washington, Eisenhower, and my Great Grandfather.
9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as one who always did the right thing and helped others to do the same. I’d also like to be remembered as the world’s greatest leader, but that’s another goal.

10. Ga! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)

11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?
Mind control him(her?) into working with me rather than being a tool of random desctruction.

12. Beards or babies?
Beard, because I can’t ever seem to grow one.
13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?
As a child I would, but nothing I remember.
14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?

16. Favorite mythological monster?
Dragons, griffins, simurghs, too many to choose.
17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! :smallfurious: Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?
In an ancient temple holding a weapon of infinite power in the middle of a star in another dimension.
18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?
As you were about to strike me down in a final blow, I called Ghost Busters used my ultimate techinique only I can use because of my special bloodline blocked and fought until your arrogance and lust for power caused you to be destroyed when you attempted to use a forbidden technique.
19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?
I like them both.
20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?

I keep to myself and don’t offer information most of the time and this is a trait I’m working to overcome. I need to be more silly/friendly.

If I haven’t answered a question, it means I’m coming back to it.

Hmmm, riddle me this:

Would you rather learn to fly a helicopter or an airplane?

Airplanes are cool, but helicopters have more maneuverability and less restrictions.
Give us a rundown of your favorite/ideal meal.
Prime rib with a side of mashed potatoes and baked apples, all served with a Coke. For dessert a fresh peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.
What do you get when you cross a duck, monkey, horsefly, and a yeti?
An average Gamma World character.

What's the significance of your username?

The meaning has changed over time. Originally when I was first introduced to D&D, I thought the mystic theurge class was awesome and wanted my name to reflect that. I chose the word saint to relfect divine casting and Nil for arcane magic (Nil was the name I gave my blackmage in FFI).

Now however, it represents that how bymyself I am inginificant (Nil) but through the grace of Him I can strive towards being a saint.
What's your ITP persona's backstory?

I don't quite understand the question. Do you mean my NEXUS character background or my persona's personality's background?
What's your own backstory?

A secret.:smalltongue:

How much good do you think it's possible to achieve on the Internet?

Plenty, charitable donation websites do an excellent job of organizing relief and earning money for the less fortunate while the internet also allows people to organize themselves to make a real change where they live (Egypt, and I'll say nothing more to avoid politics)

Then there is always the power to talk to strangers half-way across the world
and convince them how great being good is.
How much do you think you have achieved?

Nowhere near enough.:smallfrown:

What's your fondest memory in the Playground?

Hmm, while the ITP competition was fun and all the friends I've made here are amzing moments, helping to found GLoG is one of my fondest.

Guess why I have to write this.

How about both?
NEXUS character's background sort-of shifts around. It was less a character and more just a way to hang out at GLoG. Which fits Nil's personality that looking back doesn't help, you must look to the future.

As for my persona's personality, its an idealized version of what I try to live up to in real life.

Also, how did you come to the Playground?
My brother introduced me to OOTS, and then one day at school I tried to get on and was blocked. The reason? GiTP has forums on it.One lucky day the site was no longer blocked and just to find out why forums were such a big deal, I got on teh forums. The rest is history.

SAINTHOOD! What is it good for?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Hu-rah! Deeds, not titles.
How do you feel about Warhammer 40k?
So depressing.:smalleek: I prefer Dungeon the Dragoning 40k.
How about that new My Little Ponies thing?
If others enjoy it, great for them. Not my thing.
Good Sir, are you aware that you are currently glowing?
....huh? *looks at hand* OHMYGOSH WHAT ON EARTH
*catches breath*
Of course I know, I'm casting a spell.*takes hand to a doctor*
Will you Buy my book?
What is your book?
Do you know any vulnerable publisher's son's and/or daughter's I can kidnap and hold at ransom for actual book-publishing rights?
Umm, nope. *hides list*
What about ones I can flirt with until they give in to my charms?
Thats every publisher.:smalltongue:

If you drove your Chevy to a levee, what state is that levee in?

Alternatively, if you drove your Chevy to a Levee en Masse, what would you say when you met Napoleon? What if you met Robespierre? Marat? Hell, what if you met Murat?

In that vein, do you agree with me that if, after the battle of Ligny, Napoleon had sent Ney after Blucher instead of Grouchy, he would have likely won Waterloo? Ney was always brash, and Grouchy too cautious, and Grouchy failed to press Blucher, and lost him, and Ney led an un-ordered cavalry charge that ended in complete destruction, losing Napoleon practically all his cavalry.

Have you ever travelled overseas?
Yes, to Seoul, South Korea.
If so, what event really drove it home that you weren't in your own country anymore?
Stepping outside the airport really. I wasn't too bothered by it. I was fairly young. 9 I think.
What place/s do you most and least want to visit?
Most: Romania. Least: Siberia.
What have you recently discovered or worked out about yourself?
That I apparently love little kids as long as their partly my flesh and blood. *hugs niece again*
In what ways have you changed since you were half your current age?

Reinholdt's Riveting and Rhetorical Questions:
What question would you like to be asked?

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?

Cuddly. Friendly.

What is the square root of Pi?

Mmmm.... pie.... *drools on the thread*

What's your favorite OOTS strip?

I love the background comments in #40 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0040.html). I like a lot of the early ones, mostly for the gags that rip on the rules.

What's your favorite Erfworld strip?

I only read the first handful of Erfworld strips, hated it, and never read another.

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?

Not quite sure what this question means... maybe I'm too tired after a long day...

Sadistic choice time! You must choose to save either the life of your most loved one or the lives of a large group of strangers. Which do you choose?

While I would love to tell you the large group, the answer is probably my most loved.

What is your favorite word?

I love all words. Probably comes from being a writer. But just to be nice, I'll give you two words: Onomatopoeia and defenestrate.

What is your least favorite word?

I really don't know if I have one. Every word serves a purpose.

What makes you enthusiastic?

My children.

What disappoints you?

My children. ;)

What sound do you love?

I think the sound of a child laughing is the most awesome sound in the world. Kids don't fake-laugh the way adults do. It's genuine and pure, and it's awesome.

What sound do you hate?

My alarm clock.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

I regularly think about teaching.

What profession would you not like to participate in?

Firefighter. I don't know about anybody else, but when a building is on fire I'm going to try to get out not in.

(disclaimer: my father is a retired firefighter. I've heard too many stories.)

How did you find GITP?

I knew Rich a bit before he was famous. I came to the forum just to have another place to talk about the 3.5 rules.

What's your favourite place in the real world?

Hmmm... At the risk of sounding too much like Dorothy, there's really no place like home.

And not in the real world?

Azeroth

Favourite book?

Hmmm.. I have a few.

The Stand, by Steven King
The Sleeping Dragon, by Joel Rosenberg
Jhereg, by Steven Brust
Hunt for Red October, by Tom Clancy
Ten Little Indians, by Agatha Christie

Favourite movie?

I love all the Star Wars films, even the prequels that everybody else seems to hate. Some other favorites include (but not limited to): History of the World Part 1, Sneakers, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bull Durham.

Favourite TV serie?

I don't watch much TV at all. About the only thing I watch currently (other than sports) is Mythbusters. Some past TV series that I've enjoyed include (but not limited to): The Sopranos, M*A*S*H, Cheers, Night Court.

Hey Z whats up with the Q&A?

I'm not trying to be funny it's just you have never seemed the type to volunteer for this sort of thing if you catch my drift.

I was bored, and caught this one early on so... *shrug*

1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?

Princess Leia.

2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?

Being a good father.

3. Roses or orchids?

Roses.

4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?

I'll be sounding a bit like a broken record, but my kids. Every day is interesting.

5. How did you get to be so awesome?

Other than my kids (who don't know any better yet), I'm not sure who says I'm awesome.

6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?

Hmmm... April of 2001... I was the new father of a 3 month old; I worked for a company that I expected to be at a long time (I was laid off in '03); I hadn't even given a thought to doing any sort of professional game design/freelance work.

I'm not coming up with anything for the second part of your question, though. Sorry.

7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?

I've never really liked questions like this, to be honest. I would find it terribly boring to have only one other person that I could ever interact with. I mean, my first thought was to try to think of a hot chick, but that would get boring after a while (if it didn't kill me ;) ). Then I tried to think of somebody witty I could talk to, but eventually stories would become repeats and the conversations would become boring.

8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?

My great-great-great-great grandfather. For two reasons. First, to the best of my knowledge nobody has ever been able to trace the family tree back any further than him. I want to know more. Second, there's a family rumor that he came to America (it wasn't the United States yet, he arrived in the 1760's) because he and his brother killed a tax collector in Germany. I want to hear that story!

9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?

The only thing I care about is that people say, "He was a good father." Nothing else really matters to me.

10. Ga! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)

Won't be any bonus points. But there's one of a white cat faceplanted into the arm of a sofa that makes a comment about Mondays. It always makes me laugh.

11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?

Hmmm... a shrink ray, to make him small enough to squish like an ant on the sidewalk.

12. Beards or babies?

Who says the two are mutually exclusive?

13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?

I've made up plenty. Can't recall any off the top of my head, though.

14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?

The distinct sound made by my brain as it explodes trying to come up with witty and clever answers to questions...

15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?

Nothing really stuck in my head at the moment.

16. Favorite mythological monster?

The Jersey Devil.

17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! :smallfurious: Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?

18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?

I'm too meek to have an arch-nemesis...

19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?

Serious.

20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?

I was bored...

How’s life at the moment?

Not too bad, though my daughter got sick right before bed, which is a bummer - both because I hate when either of my kids is sick and because we decided to cancel our D&D session for tomorrow out of an abundance of caution.

Favorite color?

Green

Never played Magic

What is the meaning of life?

42

What are your thoughts on:

Love?
Friendship?
Freedom?

All are important for a good life.

What is the color of your aura?

Is there some meaning to aura color, or do I just pick a color? If so, green.

What does your essence taste like?

Beer. :D

What’s your elemental affinity?

http://fast1.onesite.com/community.wizards.com/smileys/confused.gif

Who would you ask to the next Playground Prom, if we had one?

I'm so shy I barely found dates for my real proms (which were over 20 years ago *cough*). I only got prom dates by asking friends. I don't know that I'd like to go through that sort of stress again...

Are you part of any other online communities?

I'm on Facebook. I post regularly on the Kobold Quarterly forums. I still post a bit over at Wizards. I'm "tech support" over at the gaming den (a buddy owns it, and he needs the help). That's about the extent, I guess.

How often do you clean out your PM box?

The PM I received reminding me about this is the 7th message in my box (including sent). I'll go delete that when I'm done with this reply.

What fictional character do you most identify with?

I don't. I mean, I don't ever watch a movie or read a book or whatever and say, "ZOMG! That's totally me!"

Socks: Yes or no?

If I'm wearing shoes, yes. (I hate sandals.) If I'm not wearing shoes and it's winter, probably but not always. If I'm not wearing shoes and it's any other time of year, probably not but sometimes.

Why did you pick Zherog as your username?

Zherog was the name of one of my old 2nd edition D&D characters. When I got back into playing D&D when 3.0 launched, I decided to recycle the name (since the original Zherog didn't do much and so didn't have much of a history). When I registered for the WotC forums back in '01, I needed a screen name. Something or other glitched when I tried to use my first initial and last name, and so I needed a name and decided to use my character's name. I've been using it onlline ever since.

And to explain the name itself... It's a bastardization of "Jhereg" - a novel by Steven Brust, and the name of a creature within that novel (and the rest of that series). I liked the look of it, but thought it needed to start with a Z sound instead. Then I didn't like the last syllable, and swapped the e for an o.

Why'd you pick what you did for your avatar?

Over on the WotC forums, my online persona at the time was very exaggerated as a flirt and a drinker of Guinness. (In fact, had I not found the Castle of Fun rp forum over on WotC, I likely would've been banned.) The character Zherog on the Castle of Fun drank copious amounts of Guinness in the bar. When I joined another message board (The Nifty Message Board) that had a lot of former WotC posters, I had the freedom to have any avatar, rather than the limited list WotC had at the time. I found a picture of a pint and used that. When I came here, I started with the same picture, and at some point many years ago Rawhide commissioned one of the avatarists to make my current avatar for me.

I do like Guinness in real life. But I don't drink it nearly as much as my online persona did back then.

Is there anything about you that you think people should know that they won't get from just reading your posts?
If so, what is it?

There's a lot to me that can't be gleaned from reading most of my posts. I suppose if somebody went to the trouble of reading everything I wrote online (here and elsewhere) they could learn that I'm a 40 year old father of 2 kids ages 10 and 9 who works a "day" job as a computer programmer for the world's largest generic drug manufacturer and works a "night" job as a freelance game designer. They'd know I coach soccer and basketball, have season tickets to the Philadelphia Union, that I'm a big Phillies and Flyers fan, and that I love playing games with my kids. That I'm a college grad who found college to be generally fun but useless in the grand scheme of things. And a lot more.

What color(s) do you prefer to wear?

hmmm.. As I said before, green is my favorite color. But I don't actually wear it often.

I'm most comfortable in jeans and t-shirt (or shorts and t-shirt in the summer). For work, I typically wear either black or tan pants and a variety of shirts or sweaters that don't really favor one color.

What do you like to collect?

I have a very large baseball card collection, though I haven't purchased anything new in at least 7 years, maybe longer. I also seem to collect game books -despite how many I have, I keep buying more.

How many avatars do you have?

On this site? One. I have my original pint of Guinness that I use almost everywhere else, and on WotC I have an Elan avatar that Rich made for me way back before the comic was all that popular.

Will you be attending GenCon?

Yes! This will be my 9th consecutive year.

What type of chocolate do you prefer?

Dark chocolate.

What type and how many pets do you have?

I prefer dogs, but at the moment we have two cats.

Do you enjoy watching the Weather Channel? :smalltongue:

No. ;)

1977? What happened that year.

Star Wars came out, I saw it in the drive-in theater with my parents, and it totally rocked my world.

If you could say a single event started the Renaissance, which event would it be?

I couldn't say that, so the question is moot. ;)

Have you ever played the Elder Scrolls games? If yes, which one is your favourite?

Never played.

What genre of books are your favourite?

I like... well, I like a lot really. I've read a lot of what gets classified as mystery and thriller. I wish I had time to read more, actually.

Do you read often?

Oh, hey look. I answered this (in part) in the previous answer. And that was without scrolling down, too.

I read every day. I read a lot of reports and documents at work, I read the news, I read forums. I suspect, though, you meant whether I read for pleasure often. And the answer to that, sadly, is no. I read something before going to bed - typically a page or two or five of a book or magazine. I'm a very slow reader, and have a large backlog of stuff I want to read.

What was the last book you finished?

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (http://www.amazon.com/Abraham-Lincoln-Vampire-Seth-Grahame-Smith/dp/0446563072/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1304222932&sr=1-1) by Seth Grahame-Smith

What's your favourite book of all time?

I've answered this above.

I doubt it - I have a pretty big mouth.

What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?

An axe, of course. I mean, shotguns are great and all - until you run out of shells.

Are you running to something, or from something?

I am way too old to be running...

Fish or chips?

The two are not mutually exclusive. ;) And, in fact, go awesome together, with a bit of malted vinegar (for both) and salt on the chips.

Up or down?

Up. It feels like making progress.

Do you like radishes? If so, can you conclusively prove that you're a human being, cause I'm doubting it. :smalltongue:

To the first part, yes. To the second part, I don't recall ever claiming to be human. ;)

What's it like being a parent, having others who depend on you for everything? I'm not one, so I'm curious.

It is: Exhilarating and frightening; uplifting and depressing; energetic and exhausting. And a gajillion other adjectives. We're in a good stage right now (my kids are 10 and 9). They're largely independent for a lot of things, but still think my wife and I are awesome and they want to be around us and do things with us.

I find myself sometimes saying things I swore I never would ("because I said so, that's why!") and doing things I never imagined (such as coaching soccer - until 3 years ago, the extent of my soccer knowledge was "don't use your hands.").

I'm often amazed when I see my own life experiences all over again through their eyes. Things we old farts take for granted such as the smell of the flowers in spring and sound of birds singing after a rainstorm are new and exciting to them. And as a parent, if you open your mind a little bit, you can experience the newness of those things all over again. Another fun one is when they hear old songs or watch old movies you love. My daughter is a big Queen and Aerosmith fan; my son is a huge Star Wars fan. If I sit back and close my eyes, I can experience those things all over again.

It's truly heartbreaking when they hurt, physically and emotionally. I'm learning that the physical hurts are probably easier. For example, my daughter recently was a silent victim of bullying in school. She also recently fell while riding her scooter and landed on her face. It was way easier to deal with the physical injuries (cuts and bruises only, thankfully) than the emotional ones -- especially that no matter what we say and do, she still felt she couldn't talk to us about it at first.

It's uplifting when they do good. I mentioned previously we have two cats. One of those was a stray my son found and we took in. She was young when he found her, 6 to 9 months old. And she was likely dumped rather than wild, because she wasn't completely afraid of people. My son insisted we needed to save her, and when he learned that it was a bit expensive (we were going to get her fixed, and release her if she ended up being feral) he brought us his piggy bank.

It's inspiring when their minds soar, unbound by limitations placed there by life's experiences. There's no reason, in their mind, why we can't put a colony on the moon or even Mars; there's no reason we can't use less and reduce waste; there's no reason we can't just teach people to stop abusing others. In their mind, there's no reason they can't become world-class musicians or soccer superstars or a doctor that cures cancer. Life truly has no limitations until you learn to place them there.

It's mundane and droll and boring when day after day is a cycle of Time to get up for school/Do your homework/Get ready for karate or basketball or soccer/Do your music practice/eat your dinner/brush your teeth and get ready for bed/Good night and have sweet dreams. Routines come easily, and most of the time they're a good thing. But it's important to sometimes remember to break the routines.

That's my short answer, anyway. ;)

Black and tans, Y/N?

Why isn't, "Hell yes!" a valid option?

Reinholdt:
What question would you like to be asked?
Well, that depends who's doing the asking, really.

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?
Adorableness, I guess.

What is the square root of Pi?
An irrational number which hardly anyone bothers memorising any digits of because it's so rarely relevant.

What's your favorite OOTS strip?
I don't think I can really answer that without first archive binging the whole thing and then thinking about it for a while.

What's your favorite Erfworld strip?
Never read it.

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?
They're pretty much the same, allowing for differences brought on by the medium of communication.

Sadistic choice time! You must choose to save either the life of your most loved one or the lives of a large group of strangers. Which do you choose?
Take a third option.

What is your favorite word?
Zerschniferschnück. It's the german for "went snicker-snack" from the german translation of Jabberwocky.

What is your least favorite word?
Really can't think of one. All words have their good points. It's just a matter of how you use them.

What makes you enthusiastic?
My friends. Gilbert & Sullivan. Books. Pocketwatches.

What disappoints you?
At least one acquaintance of mine. Casting committees. Idiots. Vandals.

What sound do you love?
Music.

What sound do you hate?
Music being butchered.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Librarian.

What profession would you not like to participate in?
Call centre, bar work or anything too heavy on manual labour.

wxdruid:
What color(s) do you prefer to wear?
Pretty much any, though I have a particular fondness for navy blue.

What do you like to collect?
G&S shows I've performed in, and parts I've played in them. Books. I seem to have been collecting shirts and jackets for a while as well.

How many avatars do you have?
Hang on, let me count... 36, including one I never actually used, but discounting different versions of the same avatar.

Will you ever attend GenCon?
I hope so.

What type of chocolate do you prefer?
Depends on my mood.

What type and how many pets do you have?
None, though the cat from two houses along the street comes and visits from time to time.

Do you enjoy watching the Weather Channel? :smalltongue:
There's a channel just for weather?

The Rose Dragon:
Is it true that when you sit around the house, you really sit around the house?
No, the house is considerably larger than I am, so I couldn't feasibly sit all the way around it.

Do you feel pretty? Oh so pretty? Do you feel pretty and witty and gay? And do you pity any girl who is not you today?
Not quite. I feel pretty and witty and bright, and I pity any girl who isn't me tonight.

Mangosta:
Do you, in fact, have any cheese here at all?
No, sir. This is a polearm emporium, sir.

Will you go quietly when they come for you?
I'll go so quietly they won't even notice I'm already gone when they come.

What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?
SCIENCE!

Are you running to something, or from something?
Invariably, both.

What's the magic word?
A sequence of syllables which somehow invoke supernatural powers, possibly by some innate linguistic connection to the fabric of the universe, or possibly just by serving as the key to the prospective spellcaster's cognitive mystical alignment.

Savannah:
Why did you pick Thufir as your username?
I'd been trying for a while to think of a decent username to use for this place, then I read Dune. On reading about mentats, I immediately liked the idea and thought I could quite possibly have been one given the appropriate training. But just 'Mentat' seemed a bit impersonal, so I went with Thufir.

Why'd you pick what you did for your avatar?
Which avatar? I mean, several of them are just me, in costume for G&S, or in a slightly chess-themed suit. The current one is something akin to what I would be like as a pony.

Is there anything about you that you think people should know that they won't get from just reading your posts?
If so, what is it?
Can't think of anything offhand.

gw's Questions of Questionable Intent
1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?
Might depend on how strongly you define 'crush'. I'm never sure how strictly to define these things, and also I'm not great at rating them, so I don't know how far through a possible list to go...

2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?
I'm me. I don't think I can separate out a particular aspect.

3. Roses or orchids?
Probably orchids. Roses are a bit cliche.

4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?
Force of habit.

5. How did you get to be so awesome?
Well, 3 years ago I joined this forum you may have heard of called the Playground, and it really helped me to come out of my shell a bit.

6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?
Ten years ago... I was 12, going on 13. Year 7...
I don't know. I always have issues with this sort of question, because I'm all too aware of the butterfly effect. Maybe if I'd received some pertinent advice when I was 12 it would have improved my life in the short term. But how much would it change? While I've had some not-so-good times in the course of my life, they've led me to where I am now, and I don't want to lose what I have.

7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?
Curly.

8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?
I really don't know. Because, I could pick some famous person I admire, but I admire them for the things for which they're famous, and I can learn about those anyway. Getting to speak to someone should be more about who they are as a person, and I don't really know so much about that.
Shakespeare I suppose I could find out if there were any lost plays. Either he or Marlowe would be interesting to see if they were as adept with words in conversation as they were in their writing. Well-known wits or philosophers would naturally be interesting to listen to. I don't have enough of an interest in history to pick a great historical figure just to find out the truth of some famous historical event.
If I can pick a fictional dead person, King Arthur. Otherwise, the person who really comes to mind, who, having read his autobiography, I would really like to have known is Harpo Marx.

9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?
I don't know. I just hope it's something good.

10. Gah! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)
I dunno.

11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?
Intuitive aptitude. Not sure how I'd use that to stop Godzilla, but your question doesn't stipulate me specifying a feasible course of action using said super-power, effectively making it "What super-power would you like to have?"

12. Beards or babies?
Context is all.

13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?
My mum made up a word: 'biscuitous' - of, like, or pertaining to biscuits.
I'm not sure if I've ever made up a word. There was one time I was writing an essay and used a perfectly logical construction which I'd never seen before and thought "Is that a word? It is now!" And in general I will sometimes use odd constructions based on existing words.
I also have my own standard incoherent expressions of frustration: "Grrfnyargle" and "Brickenbrockenfrickenfracken"

14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?
Adjective. Providing sustenance and energy over an extended period of time.

15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?
At the moment? The finale of Yeomen of the Guard.

16. Favorite mythological monster?
Dragon.

17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! :smallfurious: Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?
In my mind.

18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?
You succeeded in penetrating my mind, but were helpless once inside, because I hold all the keys to my self.

19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?
Serious, but a smattering of silly is also good.

20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?
So that more may know of my glory! Or at least get to know me a bit more.
Also, last time hardly anyone asked me anything.

Do you know any alternate names considered for you before you were born, including one that your parents might have chosen if you were born the opposite gender?
I don't know any other names they considered, but I know they did consider a number of other names before I was born, but felt after I was born that I just was a [NAME REDACTED]

What's your favorite memory from 2010?
Do I have to pick just one? Hmm...
It's a toss-up between playing Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore and the two UK meetups which happened in that year.

I'm curious...why would you not want to work at a bar? (This coming from someone who was a bartender for 12 years.)
Being rushed off my feet in a crowded, likely noisy place dealing with an endless string of drunken demands for alcohol? I'll pass.

Blue Ghost
How’s life at the moment?
Pretty good. G&S-filled until next Sunday. I need to get some things sorted out, though. And organise my birthday party.

Favorite color?
Navy blue.

Favorite fruit?
Satsumas and the like.

Favorite ice cream?
Not sure. Depends on mood really. If I want something sweet, either honeycomb or toffee butterscotch. But sometimes I'd rather something less sweet, in which case I'd probably go for something fruit flavoured, but I don't really know what.

What is your theme song?
Don't know.

What is your alignment?
Roughly due west at the moment. Hey, you didn't specify D&D alignment...
OK, somewhere between NG and N.

What is your Magic: The Gathering color?
Never played, know nothing about it.

What is the meaning of life?
Does it have to have one?

What are your thoughts on:

Love?
Complicated. I wrote a whole blog post on the subject and I could probably still say more.

Friendship?
Good? Important? A fairly non-specific topic on which to ask for opinions?

Freedom?
Also complicated, for reasons described somewhat by Lord Vetinari in the Discworld book Going Postal. And probably other reasons as well.

What is the color of your aura?
I have trouble with questions like this because I don't really associate colours with personality traits at all.

What does your essence taste like?
Or tastes.

What’s your elemental affinity?
Surprise.
Alternatively, carbon.

Who would you ask to the next Playground Prom, if we had one?
Curly.

Are you part of any other online communities?
Facebook. Also a couple of forums containing people I know IRL, but they're basically dead now.

How often do you clean out your PM box?
I delete PMs as and when I feel I need to. I never completely clear my PM box, because there are some PMs I'm holding onto for nostalgia purposes.

What fictional character do you most identify with?
...That's a really difficult question. Do you know how many fictional characters I can think of? I don't, but it's a lot.

Socks: Yes or no?
Yes. I'd be surprised if anyone said no.

What’s your pony name?
Don't know.

Do you know any Playgrounders in real life?
A fair few. I love meetups!

Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
1977?
11 years before I was born. 2 years after Karpov became world champion. Elvis Presley was taken away by aliens? Or was that '76?

You look dashing. How DO you do it? You would not be out of place as a musketeer, if you grew your hair to shoulder length.
...My hair is shoulder length.
And, I don't know. I just try and take care of my hair. and my beard, while I have one. Oh, and I dress fairly well, though I could still do with more fancy clothes and a wardrobe in which to put them.

You say you like music, hmm? What's your favourite genre/artist/album/song?
Really difficult question. I mean, obviously I have a great focus on Gilbert & Sullivan, so there's that. I find it difficult to compare that much between genres. I also like some musicals, Les Miserables being the one which really sticks out. Choral music is good, both the old-fashioned stuff (Mahler's 8th, Beethoven's 9th. Seriously) and the more modern stuff, choral arrangements of relatively popular songs. Oh, and barbershop. I can provide a few youtube links if people want.
Then, on music closer to the modern mainstream, I'm really never sure of the divisions between the genres of pop/rock/etc, but favourite artist has to be David Ford. Also up there are Duke Special and Beccy Owen. And going back in time a bit, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and The Kinks.
Album, well, The Carnival Leaves Town by The Dawn Chorus is pretty good, to pick one from out of my list of favourite artists/bands, but really I have to go into that list. But the thing is, I tend to like all of their stuff, so which album do I choose? Probably the most recent for the modern ones, so Let The Hard Times Roll for David Ford, I Never Thought This Day Would Come for Duke Special and... actually, no, for Beccy Owen I'd say The Singer Kicks beats out Down With Gravity. As far as Pink Floyd goes, Wish You Were Here, particularly for Shine On You Crazy Diamond, definite contender for favourite song there. Can't really pick for Beatles and I onyl really know The Kinks from their Best Of actually.
Song, I've mentioned SOYCD, then, well, going back to G&S, probably A British Tar from HMS Pinafore. Choral, I mentioned Mahler and Beethoven. Modern stuff, well, thing is, with some of my favourite albums it's difficult to pick out a favourite song, because it's just that I like the whole thing together. Duke Special - Love is a Series of Scars. Beccy Owen - Stormbound and Mention. David Ford - Hurricane. Oh, also There is a Light The Never Goes Out, by The Smiths, as performed by David Ford. I don't like the original so much.
I could probably come up with more.

Do you play music in any way?
I used to play violin and viola, but I haven't for years. I started learning piano, and intend to go back and teach myself a bit more, when I find the plug for my keyboard... I can get to a reasonable level of competence on specific pieces. Bass guitar, I achieved a basic level of proficiency and then kind of stopped, but I'm sure I could get back into it. Want to learn other instruments as well.
Oh, and I sing.

Have you ever considered doing so? As an idle dream, even?
See above.

Archonic Energy
Do you play CCGs?
It would be helpful if you'd uninitialise that.

If you could be any CCG card what would you be?
Still don't know what you're talking about.

Cisco or Nortel?
:smallconfused:

iPod ot MP3 player?
mp3 player.

Bose or Beats?
Beats brings to mind genres of music I'm not overly fond of. Bose is a famous physicist. Bose!

Mac or PC?
PC.

360 or PS3
PS3.

Blu Ray or DivX stream?
I don't see the point of the first and I don't really know what the second is.

TARDIS or DeLorean?
TARDIS all the way.

Hoopy or frood?
Frood, of course. Hoopy just means "Really together guy," whereas frood means "Really amazingly together guy. It's just unambiguously better.

Invisibility cloak or elder wand?
Hmm, tricky. Power is tempting, and it doesn't seem like the being constantly targeted thing was so much a property of the wand as of the people who had it. Though people could always find out by investigation... yeah, invisibility cloak.

B5 or DS9?
B5, and I'm sure I will retain this view even once I've actually seen DS9.

Are you going to update your blog any time soon?
Yes! I just need to edit some videos together and then I'll make a post about my holiday. And then one about Portal 2. However I'm a bit occupied at the moment with G&S, limiting my time to a certain extent. Oh, and of course then they'll be a post about Yeomen of the Guard, and one about HMS Pinafore after next week. And probably one about Doctor Who.

Scotch or Bourbon?
Neither.

HCl or NaOH?
That's... hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide?
They're both deadly, aren't they?

GDI or Nod?
What or what?

What OS do you use on your primary "computer"
Windows, and why is computer in quotemarks?

Laptop or desktop?
Laptop.

Sniper Rifle or Shotgun?
Depends on the situation.

GLaDOS or Wheatly?
GLaDOS, naturally.

mangosta71

CCG, Nod & GDI have been explained already.

and since i'm already typing... more either or questions!
they are easier to type than fully fleged questions and can be just as informative:

Ice or Fire?

favorite season?

Doctor or Master?

What can change the nature of a man?

Black Mesa or Apeture Science?

Death or Cake?

if you had super powers would you be a hero or villan?

Well, I've never played Command & Conquer, so I can't answer that one.
As to CCGs, when I was younger I joined in a little bit with the pokemon card craze, though not so much as some people. So that's the only one I really know, which gives me limited choices for the "If you could be a card" question...
Oh wait! Top Trumps is a CCG isn't it. And there are Doctor Who Top Trumps cards. I would be the Doctor.

Ice or Fire?
Depends if I'm too hot or too cold. In general though, fire can keep you alive with warmth. Ice is less useful in that regard.

Favourite season?
Each season is whatyou make of it. It's down to what you do with the time for me more than the season itself. With that in mind, summer, because my friends are out of uni and there's lots of scope for doing fun things.

Doctor or Master?
Doctor.

What can change the nature of a man?
Experience.

Black Mesa or Aperture Science?
Aperture Science. I just really love to test.

Death or Cake?
Cake.

If you had super powers would you be a hero or villain?
Not sure if I'd be either. I might just be a regular guy. With super-powers.

What super power would you like?
Intuitive aptitude, I already said this.

What would your super alias be called?
That would likely be determined by the public or the press in the event I did any hero-ing or villain-ing. I'm not overly bothered about it.

Did you notice my spelling error in my last batch?
Well, you misspelled 'DeLorean'. And... hang on, I'll check... you DID misspell Wheatley! I thought there was an e in there, but then convinced myself otherwise.
For the record, in this set of questions, you misspelled 'favourite', 'Aperture' and 'villain'.

P-Body or Atlas?
Atlas. I like the blue portals.

:smallamused: or :smalltongue:?
:smallamused:

Edit: And... you edited your post while I was answering or after I answered your questions.

Life has given you lemons, what is your reaction?
Much as I love Cave Johnson, I have to go with something I think I saw in someone's signature here: "If life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Try to figure out how you got an abstract concept like life to give you a physical object like lemons. Then you will be one step further to bending the universe to you will."
Or words to that effect.

Top hats.

Bolt-action or semi-automatic?
I don't know guns.

If you were stranded on a non-desert livable island for a year, and you had to take me and two other things with you, what would those two things be?
That's decidedly non-specific as to the nature of the island. I mean, Britain is a non-desert livable island, in which case I wouldn't really need to take anything with me because it's all already here.

It's otherwise deserted, and very small. Does it change your answer?

Then... It is in fact a desert isle. The "desert" comes from the fact that it's deserted, not from its climate.

Oh, right, questions. Umm... If you could be non-fatally stabbed with a solid gold dagger, would you? Assuming that if you do so, you can keep the dagger.

On nomenclature of desert islands: I'd say that's debatable at least, since desert as in the climate also derives from a word in some old language for something being abandoned (Or 'deserted').
Certainly, when one mentions a desert island, you think of a desert climate. I'd say that's the association and so that is the meaning at this point, even if it may not have been the original source of the term. If you wanted to talk about an island which was deserted, but non-desert climate-wise, you would call it (wait for it...) a deserted island. Surprisingly enough.

The Rose Dragon:
It's otherwise deserted, and very small. Does it change your answer?
Hmm. Well, if there's some way to get electricity and internet access I'd definitely want my laptop. Other than that... I don't know.

Kneenibble:
What is one great thing about living in the UK?
The people who live here.

What is the oldest book you have handled?
Um, I've briefly handled a 1920s vocal score of Ruddigore... I don't generally ask how old books are when handling them, but I can't think of an occasion when I've handled a particularly old book.

Have you ever been to Lincoln Cathedral?
No.

Suppose I visit England one day; would you show me the sights, provided I promised not to try to comb your hair with a comb carved of water-buffalo horn?
I'm not sure what that comb thing refers to, but I'd show you anything you want. :smallwink:

Worira:
If you could be non-fatally stabbed with a solid gold dagger, would you? Assuming that if you do so, you can keep the dagger.
I'd rather just have the monetary value of the solid gold dagger. Of course I'm not entirely sure how much money that'd be.
Also, non-fatally allows for a whole range of possible stabbings. Hell, stabbing only refers to the act, not necessarily inflicting any wound. I could wear body armour which would completely protect me from any hypothetical stab wound, and I would still be being stabbed, definitely non-fatally. In which case, sure, that would be totally worth it.

gw's Questions of Duplicitous Intent
1. Do you hold grudges? If so, for how long?
I do hold grudges if given definite cause to, and I hold them as long as seems reasonable. I only drop a grudge if I see reasonable evidence the person against whom I hold said grudge genuinely repents what they did to cause it and intends to act counter to such in future.

2. What's your favorite band/musician?
See answer to Gwyn's question on the subject above.

3. Do you like juice? If so, what is your favorite kind of juice. If not, what would you rather drink?
Can't beat orange juice. I might sometimes feel like something different, but orange juice is just always good.

4. Which do you prefer, wool or cotton?
Cotton I guess? Whenever I've worn something made of wool, it's been itchy.

5. Have you ever owned a slinky?
YES.

6. If you could take on the mantle of an established comic-book character, which one would you choose? That is, if you could become Batman, Superman, Mysterio, Magneto, Nite Owl, etc., which would you want to become?
Tricky. I'm not such a massive comics fan, certainly not the 'mainstream' comics as it were, superheroes and suchlike. And the comics I do read, I like the characters, but I wouldn't necessarily want to be them.

7. Which is your favorite meal of the day?
Probably dinner. The other two have little variety. I like it that way well enough, but still, it rather precludes them being considered a favourite.

8. Do you eat a lot of snacks?
Not a great deal, but some.

9. What is your favorite restaurant?
Probably the Ming Cottage. Chinese restaurant about 20 minutes walk away where me and my family go every year on or around the anniversary of us moving up here. Which, come to think of it, is coming up soon this year...

10. Who was the most recent person you talked to in person?
My mum.

11. What was the last thing you said to that person?
"OK."

12. Which of the following two words do you think makes a sentence creepier when added to the end: 'ladies' or 'hard'?
Depends on the sentence really. Also on how you say it. But on average... I'm gonna go with 'ladies'.

13. What do you think of when you read the word 'fishmember?'
I interpret it as a portmanteau of 'fish' and 'remember', and so think it's either something to do with remembering fish or with the memories of fish.

14. Do you like haiku?
Haiku are easy.
But sometimes they don't make sense.
Refrigerator.

15. If you had a choice between zombies or aliens destroying humanity, which would you choose?
If the destruction is completely inevitable, aliens, since they can more likely be negotiated with to leave some things. If the destruction is not completely inevitable, zombies, because they're much more evitable.

16. Sufficiently advanced aliens visit earth and say they'll change just one thing about you. It can be anything at all. What would you choose?
Is this not essentially just another superpower question?
I'll try and come up with a different answer. Regenerative properties could be cool. Suddenly, I don't have to worry about taking care of my teeth, because they'll just revert to a good, healthy state over time. Never worry about going bald, I can just get new hair follicles! Also injuries healing.

17. Do you think aliens from another planet ever actually visit Earth?
Should there be a 'will' in this question? Because, well, either way I'm not entirely sure. But if there's a 'will' then I think there may be appreciable chances of it happening someday, whereas if there isn't, you're asking if I think they do so already, and I'm pretty skeptical about that.

18. Do you prefer to control a project from beginning to end, always repair the same flaw in someone else's project, choose to leave well enough alone, or some other mode of creation I haven't figured out here?
I prefer to control things myself throughout.

19. You could build your dream house within five miles of your current home. What goes into it?
No restrictions? Alright then. For starters, it's probably like a TARDIS - bigger on the inside than the outside. Also, some sort of teleportation device to take me around the world so I can visit Playgrounders and American Friend.
Next, massive library. And I do mean MASSIVE.
Wardrobe containing variety of costumes and suits, particularly some Victorian-style suits.
Entertainment stuff, TV of decent size, consoles, lots of DVDs and a decent number of games.
All rooms can be soundproofed to allow for different choices of music. Soothing and classical in the library, more modern and possibly high-energy stuff in the entertainment room, you get the idea.
Music room - variety of instruments, and some recording equipment.
And obviously I'd need the important basics - kitchen, bathroom(s), bedrooms. Have a decent number of spare bedrooms for friends.

20. I give you a seed; you water it with your favorite bit of poetry. What sprouts from it?
Hmm. Have to decide on my favourite bit of poetry first. Would it be that bit of Tennyson, or The Hunting of the Snark? Because the two would produce rather different results I imagine. The Tennyson would sprout something somehow inspiring towards greatness. Whereas Hunting of the Snark would sprout something decidedly weird.

rakkoon:

Which bit of Tennyson?
End of... Ulysses I think?
"Tho' much is taken, much abides, and tho'
We are not now that strength that in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are -
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
Quoted on Babylon 5. I loved it there and I love it in general.

Favourite work of Gaiman's?
Oh man, that's a difficult question. I do love American Gods. Neverwhere is wonderful of course. Anansi Boys for a mroe cheerful one. On the other hand, some of his best stuff is in his short stories...
I think I still have to go with Good Omens, as it's something I'm always willing to read.

If you could learn any one other language which would it be?
Tricky. Japanese would allow me to watch anime without subtitles... on the other hand, German or Italian would be helpful for opera. Probably have to go with one of those, though I'm also somewhat tempted by Russian, for literature and unusualness.

Captain Happy:
What is your most favourite English word?
I find this really difficult to answer. Words don't particularly distinguish themselves from each other for me. Nothing really prompts me to grant them preferences. I view it so much as just the English language. They're all equal constituent parts of it.
That said, I have a certain fondness for made up words that just make perfect sense. Like 'upsettling' and 'noonlight'. 'Gallumphing' is also pretty good. Hmm, are there any good made up words in Hunting of the Snark? There must be some, surely...

What is your most favourite word in any other language?

And what does it mean?

What is your favorite word?
Zerschniferschnück. It's the german for "went snicker-snack" from the german translation of Jabberwocky.

Actually sir, I'm very pleased that you have chosen to use the questions Bernard Pivot started and James Lipton popularized (but alas the board rules proscribe the juicier ones). I'm an immense fan of him and his show.
& "red or red?"

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?
Colourful feathers, likes people, vigorous, and cuddly.

What is the square root of Pi?
I have a book called The Giza Death Star which will tell you that it's the secret code in the Great Pyramids' design and that if they weren't missing some component pieces they would be EVIL WEAPONS.

What's your favorite OOTS strip?
There was one with a gay police man that cracked me up. I forget the context though.

What's your favorite Erfworld strip?
That one where Wanda steps it up.

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?
The interplay between actor and Internet-character and the way they inform each other is fascinating: from the people who have a fairly vanilla masque to the people like Trog who adapt a whole other character, everybody is performing their self based on desires and self-perceptions. And the receptions and experiences the actor has, depending on how much time they spend in character, will inform the roles they play in 3D life.

I am a loud dresser, a goof, and a bon vivant in 3D, but Kneenibble is a little closer to one of these larger-than-life drag queens you can meet in a club on Thursdays. Like my gay shadow.

What is your favorite word?
In Latin: numen
In English: It's always changing. I'm fairly fascinated by the morphology of the 10 numbers right now: thirty, forty, fifty, &c.

What is your least favorite word?
Any time a curse word is used inelegantly, I shrivel inside.

What makes you enthusiastic?
Free and joyful creativity.

What disappoints you?
Apathy.

What sound do you love?
When you water a houseplant and you can hear it trickling through the soil.

What sound do you hate?
Loud subwoofers, especially in a car outside or another house and I can't actually hear the music. Drives me bloody nuts.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
A soldier. I respect the training and values of the military very much.

What profession would you not like to participate in?
Besides the obvious ones like "toilet cleaner" or "dirty hooker," I would hate to be an IT person or work with programming. It strikes me as the dullest work imaginable.

Serpentine
Have you ever travelled overseas?
Oui madame, I've been to India, Sri Lanka, and very briefly to Germany.

If so, what event really drove it home that you weren't in your own country anymore?
It was the first time I walked out of the fancy ex-pat apartment building in Chennai to buy a coconut the morning after I had arrived. The sounds, the smells, and the colours were starkly un-known. It was the coconut lady herself, though, yakking in Tamil as she hacked up the coconut with a black iron machete as motorbikes and yellow tuk-tuks sped by.

What place/s do you most and least want to visit?
I dearly want to go to England because I feel very connected to my English heritage and wish to visit family I still have there and see all the places in my grandmother's stories about my grandfather who was an RAF pilot who died long before I was born.

I really don't want ever to go to the States. No offense to Americans.

What have you recently discovered or worked out about yourself?
A few months ago I moved from a job that I disliked to a job that I love beyond words to tell, and I realized that I had used my discontent as an excuse to drink, wallow and squander my abilities and pursuits with idleness. I've been pushing myself to self-improvement and an inner renaissance.

In what ways have you changed since you were half your current age?
Since 13? Mainly I'm a lot uglier and hairier.
heh. 13 was right around the time the cluster**** of gay self-realization and the awful slurry of social expectations and mendacity all began. I'm happy to say I'm mostly through all that.

In what ways have you stayed the same?
Still a skinny nerd!

Thufir
What is one great thing about living in Canada?
The low population density and the resultant vast swathes of nature and lakes to explore!

If I came over to Canada, would you show me around, take me out somewhere nice?
Oui monsieur, d'accord; in my native city (whose charms for visitors are limited I'm afraid), then to nearby lakes of unsurpassed fineness and beauty where I would struggle not to attempt to persuade you to skinny-dip; and then a tour of all the grand railway hotels across the country.

I can't recall if I've ever known, why is your standard avatar a budgie?
My first avatar was the fellow in the suit with a large budgie on his arm made by the delicious Dr. Bath, and then the sexbot-currently-known-as-Lyesmith made a remark about a nightmare involving a giant budgie in drag. So I made it. Budgies also happen to be my favourite kind of creature on this earth.
