This place is just as it sounds. It's outside.
Want a change of scenery? Go outside.
Always wanted to visit the beach? Come outside.
Looking to have a climatic fight on clifftops? Attempt outside.
Secret meetings being held where there's no cameras? Try outside.
Want an ambush without nasty base defenses? Yep. Outside.

Any and all are welcome here. There are no NPCs unless you bring them in. The major exception is the creepy eyed squirrel. The creepy eyed squirrel does not interfere with anyone. The creepy eyed squirrel is everywhere outside. The creepy eyed squirrel is always watching. The creepy eyed squirrel never sleeps. The creepy eyed squirrel can not be damaged, manipulated, or killed by anyone. The creepy eyed squirrel will eat anyone's very being who attempts to do so. Anyone can god-mode the creepy eyed squirrel. You may pet the creepy eyed squirrel at your own risk.

Other NPCs currently include:
The menacing crabs. These intimidating creatures are usually found by the shore.
The non-existant duck. You'll miss every time you shoot at it.

There is very little you can't do outside. However, like always, please follow the forum rules and general rules of conduct. Private conversations can be held outside. If it seems like a private (secret) conversation, please respect that. Those having such a conversation should do their best to indicate it as such. Otherwise, other characters may stumble upon you. Those desiring to spy in on private conversations should first PM those holding the private conversation, more out of courtesy than anything else.

There are many areas outside, and people can be in multiple places outside. In order to keep areas outside separated so there's no confusion, consider bolding your outside location at the start of each of your posts, like so:

The Fields

Reinholdt sets up various targets and practices his sharpshooting. All these events recently has made him a bit rusty. To his left, he notes the creepy eyed squirrel. Giving him the heebie-jeebies, Reinholdt decides to head somewhere else.

The Cliffside

Calublufiok broods over his latest scheme as he flies over the cliffs. The creepy eyed squirrel is watching him again. He finds occasionally landing and telling the creepy eyed squirrel his plans helps him find holes in his plotting.

Note Reinholdt and Calublufiok do not interact because they are in different areas outside. They could interact, if Reinholdt moves to the cliffside. Of course, various things like telepathy help bypass this. Also, please note outside has no major buildings, though minor ones crop up from time to time.

And most importantly, enjoy outside. That's what this is all about.

Outside now contains various Outside locations! Such as...
[Dead Pine Lake]
This lake lies in the middle of the forest. On the eastern shore, woodpeckers feast on the dead pines that give the lake its name. Sometimes one can find Lady Death here, the Aspect of Eve also known as The Grandmother, or Jedwiga.

(Please PM happyturtle if you wish to interact with Jedwiga.)

http://i431.photobucket.com/albums/qq40/happyturtle-avs/p243360-Delray_Beach_FL-Wetlands_sc.jpg

[The Islands]

An island cluster forms an archipelago along the coast. Some of the islands are settled, some not, but most are at least occasionally visited by the fishermen who work these waters.

[Gersemi's Island]

Gersemi the seighkona lives on a small island in the archipelago with a single hut and a few sheep. Inside the hut, there is a single room, and a fireplace. A loom rests in one corner.

(Please PM happyturtle if you wish to interact with Gersemi.)

[Redbrick Falls]

A mountainous, cliffy region with a prominent waterfall. A large quarry once was worked in these cliffs. Now, only a few scattered villages and solitary dwellings remain.

[Norosa, Great City of the Elves]
A Lawful Evil city with an incredibly strong military and a very charismatic leader (Archmage Tyrion Lannister). It has a few CG resisters, but, otherwise, it is a city of peace and law, despite its evil nature.

[Brillian's Baneful Bestiary]
A secret series of caves where a mad scientist lives. A mad scientist who creates mutant attack creatures. These can be purchased for the right price.

[Auxiliary MagCave]

A relic from the days of the Age of Apocalypse, this abandoned cavern was once used by the infamous cyborg Magtok as a back-up laboratory and underground fortress, should Calublufiok have ever stormed the primary MagCave.

[The Katz Motel]
Located in the middle of Nowhere, our roadside motel is the only decent place for miles near the Taverna that has a bed. Run by a suave anthropomorphic cat, there is a strict No Dogs policy.
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090705011306/courage/images/b/bc/Katz.png

A bellhop by the name of Bates is always ready to assist in carrying your luggage. Please ignore his constant mutterings about his mother. Other more unsavory employees can occasionally be found. Please try to avoid eye contact with them.

We at the Katz Motel wish to ensure you have a splendid stay. Any inconvenience due to randomly locking doors, giant spiders, secret passages, vampires, creepy paintings, and the occasional possession and subsequent exorcism are incredibly rare. Just look at our complaint cards! Not a single one mentions dying horribly in their sleep or becoming food for the monster in the basement.

And if you get bored, the owner will always be up for a game of sport, old boy.

((The Katz Motel is a horror filled place with the highest casualty rate of any motel in the Nexus area. Checking in is usually pretty easy and pleasant. Checking out is rare. Anyone can play the Motel and the NPCs within, free to invent their own horror. The NPCs within that can die usually only suffer death temporarily, the supernatural force causing the disturbances bringing them back to life for its own nefarious purposes. PCs get no benefit from this.))

[The Troll Cave]
A cave in a craggy hill. The undergrowth outside is trampled completely flat, and there's not much wildlife. There's a burned patch where a fire is sometimes there. Inside are a few large caves, linked by surprisingly smooth tunnels that look like something big has been regularly pushing through them.

[Blind Cat's Bluff]
A sheer cliff dropoff that travels straight down into the water, this is a favored point of people who commit suicide, romantics wanting to watch the sunset and anyone looking to get rid of evidence. The drop is pretty far and there are rocks at the bottom that spell almost certain doom, so watch your step.

Rebecca continues casting as Esther reads the book out to her.

She finishes her spell part-way through, and grants herself the ability to see magic as light. She starts looking over the doorway and the pool with it, unless she's suddenly blinded or something like that.

[Strange Room 2.0]

Ordo listens apprehensively to the information provided before diving. Upon spotting these new things, he returns to the surface, hissing raucously at Esther and Rebecca. Gesturing at the keyhole, then down under the water with his head. Keyhole, down. Key down.

[Strange Room 2.0]

Eshter suddenly gains god-like charades ability to save us another round of posting. She could probably ascend right now if she felt like it.

Using her amazing charades powers, she correctly guesses what Ordo means and reaches out with her magic to grab at one of the fish. If one happens to be older than the rest and have a broken fin, she'll grab that one. Then proceed to berate SC for being unoriginal.

[Strange Room 2.0]

The fish all look different actually. They are keys with scales and gills. Even some sort of mouth which opens and closes from time to time. One is black, one is white, one is red, one is green, one is purple and one yellow.

Rebecca will feel magic coming from the seal and the keys as well. But there appears to be coming light from the bottom of the lake as well for some reason.

"Alright, Char, just close your eyes and hope. Hope for the future." Rae says, and then he takes his ring off, whispers into it, and tries to place it on Char's finger. If he's successful, she should see two visions of the future, one where she chose to keep on unable to see magic, and one where she got fixed. They aren't clear, but she should get a vague impression of how she likes each life. "Right now, there are two paths your life could take. You're going to have to choose one. I won't hold either of the choices against you, and neither will anyone else. It's all what you want, Char, so it's all your choice."

Eshter can't actually see the fish. In fact, she is quite surprised when there is suddenly a fish floating in front of her.

Regardless of the strangeness of the key, Eshter tries to float it into the lock and turn.

Actually, the thunderbolt was moving much, much faster than the elemental, around three thousand seven hundred miles per second, so if Patty waited till the last second to dodge the fire elemental, she would probably get struck by the lightning. Especially as, due to to the fog, how fast the bolt is traveling, and the thunder being slower then the actual lightning, chances are she won't even spot the lightning bolt until it hits.

Yes, but that's assuming the lightning bolt and the elemental were 'launched' at the same time.

Either way, Patty, behing the High Priestess of a Goddess, dodges the lightning bolt. Might make her hair stand on end.

With one last thump of a book hitting the pile, the Encyclopede starts climbing down. Something worrying about the book on top; it's bound in humanoid skin, with the stitched up eyelids, nostrils and mouth on the front cover.

Hermitage of Dalachrech

The Hermitage and surrounding forest are warded against teleportation, except in a single summoning room in the basement where the wards can be temporarily lifted easily. So, Din winds up outside the forest, looking at a thick, formidable-looking woodland with very little gaps between the trees; this makes it rather dark inside, especially with the spider webs in the trees.

Din sighs, and uses her survival sill to silently run through the forest, trying to get to the hermittage

"That one's not alive, just bound in human skin. Why the face was chosen we do not know; it's nonmagical as far as we can determine so it was presumably an aesthetic choice." So, it's just disturbing.

Hermitage of Dalachrech- Surrounding Forest

If Din is not careful, she may run into a web spun the trees; the web is very large, and quite strong. The spider which spun it is the size of a small horse, and the web is scaled appropriately.

"How fast can you read?" The Encyclopedes can read very fast; the Wikipede link enables lots of computing power to go behind interpreting the words.

Hermitage of Dalachrech- Aranea Village

In a forest clearing is a small collection of simple wooden huts; the people in the village wear crude, woodcutter clothes. They all appear to be human, and when Din appears, they hail and look cheeful. They probably don't get many visitors this deep in a spider-infested forest.

When Din starts slinging spells, the Aranea respond in kind, flinging balls of force in her direction, with the occasional weak ray of cold or ball of acid. Plus more of the webs, thrown like nets. They also chase after her; they're really quite fast in the open terrain.

Encyclopedes have a single very large brain running down their bodies, this is linked with the Wikipede which is a mega-super-computer hosting the collected knowledge of every Encyclopede ever and utilising many different technologies and magics; its link to every Encyclopede enables it to use those for added computational power, so every Encyclopede has instantaneous access to the brainpower of every other Encyclopede.

The aranea will swarm to Din and unless she escapes in time, they'll try to wrap her up in the web and add more webs to cocoon her properly. They are immoral, unethical and merciless seekers of knowledge bound by no rules, laws or codes of practice. They might dissect Reinholdt if they saw a way not to be caught and also thought he might not cause more loss than gain in the attempt to capture him. So yes, peaceful knowledge seekers. The Encyclopede, meanwhile, has moved on to the next book.

Hermitage of Dalachrech- Aranea Village

With a bit of effort, Din can free herself. Coincidently whilst the aranea aren't paying too much attention to her, discussing whether they should take her to the Hermitage immediately, wait until tomorrow, eat her, trade her to the ettercaps for cave mushrooms, leave her dangling from the invertebrates of the forest or dump her in the midden. Should she creep carefully, they might not notice; should she run, they might not be able to recapture her; should she charge, she might be able to kill them.

Another defence is that the only bit they really want to dissect is his brain. Whilst much information could be hidden in the anatomy of a talking, sentient kitty's brain, the rest of the body is probably already on file (apart from the thumbs) and therefore all a dissection is likely to do is confirm that. The Encyclopede's really fast at writing. She'll probably be finished next post. The robot is changing colours, and some of the books seem very intriguing, disturbing, interesting, curious, yellow or a mixture thereof.

"To give you something to look at whilst I copy these notes. The fact you have commented upon it proves its effectiveness." That could possibly have done with a bit more tact.

Hermitage of Dalachrech- Forest Edge

There is a large area around the castle that is used for the Hermitage which has been cleared of trees and shrubs. The Hermitage itself can be seen quite easily; Din is probably just outside of bowshot from the Hermitage. The windows are thin arrow slits, and they are all very high up. There's a large gate in the south-facing wall; it is currently closed, though when open two ogres could march through with a foot's gap between them, and another gap between them and the walls. There may be other ways in, however.

Actually, standing on the righthand circle won't result in turning inside out. What it might result in is an Encyclopede appearing suddenly in the space in which Reinholdt is currently taking up. That would hurt, explosively so.

With a flash of light, nothing seems to have changed, save he and the Encyclopede are now on the right-hand circle. The Encyclopede leaves the circle rather hurriedly, and open the transporter room door, revealing an area very similar to the one they left, only some of the shelves are carved from white, unveined marble, others are made of unpolished basalt, and others from metal or limestone. They seem to blend seamlessly into one another at various points along the shelves.

The Pale River is a moderately sized, fairly slow paced trail of water moving in from the lower regions of the mountains.
It feeds into the Pale Lake, some distance away from the mountains.

The names of these two water-bodies originate not from them, themselves, but from the inordinately large present of birch trees along their banks.
The rather unusual section of forest, consequently, is largely a pale white, from ground level. Local traveler's felt that their naming was rather practical, if not original, and when they returned to their villages, the names stuck.

Why not? They were accurate descriptions, no one would mistake the place.

It is here, that Galinai has led Eadin, sometime after their Carnival trip.

"Something similar would have occured in the Magic (General) Wing, though we warded it against wild magic quite well since the effects would have been more unpredictable. He tilts his head a bit at that, pondering. Maybe it'll involve a cupcake storm?

Icky, that wound under his shirt doesn't look like he get it from tripping and getting a paper-cut.
Four, wide, somewhat deep gouges have been carved into his side, by either claws or rather large teeth.

It's really a wonder he didn't bleed out far sooner than this, but the fading wisps of what appears to be shadowy substance around the wounds may have had a hand in preserving him.
Had, past tense.

It appears to be Eadin that's getting that job now, with her healing magic.
Wonder if it supplies extra blood to go with what has decided to live in his shirt instead, in addition to sewing the skin back together?

And already he's keeping secrets.
"You better."She mumbles against his shoulder.
She'll sigh and enjoy the moment, until Galinai suddely pick her up.
"Hey, what are you doing?"

Everyone keeps secrets...
He was simply keeping one so he did not worry her. It backfired...but it was the original thought that counted, right?

There's a bit of a smile as on his face, whether at Eadin's sudden questioning or from the past several moments is irrelevant, as he begins walking over to the lake with her.
"Bringing us over to the water."

It would seem, that for all his joking previously and even his weakness a moment ago, he has at least a little strength to him if he's doing this.

Eadin

That's true. But his secret keeping almost got him killed. So no. He got her more worried than if he just told her.

No one has accused Galinai of thinking most his choices through very well, so far.
His choice of secrets just continues this, it seems.

"There's something else relaxing, about being in the water. We don't have to swim."
He's simply intending to walk into the shallows, his shoes having somehow detached along the way, then simply...sitting in the water.
Floop.

It appears they'll get over the wet clothes, though perhaps he's basing this choice partially from her ability to speed-dry things.

Humans and their secrets. Not that Eadin doesn't have them.
She just doesn't see any reason to tell him about them.

She'll mumble something about ruining her dress as Galinai puts them down into the shallow water.
"Water has a calming effect on most people. Guess I do to." She'll grin, heating the water. Warm water is even more relaxing.

He'll have to ask nicely if he wants speed dry.

The largest reason for hoarding information, and possibly the most bothersome one; "you didn't ask" or "it wasn't important".

Unless her dress starts to disintegrate in the water, Galinai's not going to be too concerned about it, putting it over in the "speed dry" thought category.
Oh look, she's grinning! This plan was already a success, which brings a few pleased thoughts to the man's head.

There's an amused thought in Galinai's head as it ponders along precisely what Eadin would intend to do. Cold water seems somewhat obvious, given the location, and it would probably end up with a lot of spluttering from him.

His gaze follows hers, to her legs, as the scales begin to crop up and the curious look from last time reappears.
"May I?"
Judging by the hand he holds up slightly, it appears he wants to feel them or something similar.

"Didn't quite dodge as well as I'd have liked, when I got jumped heading over to the tavern. Got nicked a bit by the offender."
If one looks at the size of the claws on the monster he fled from, "nicked" is in fact the correct word.

He'll be careful about it, simply tracing a finger across a scale or two, rather intrigued by the possible texture foremost.
They're always so different from skin itself, so it seems fair that he'd be curious about that.

"Eh...it can be, if you're careful. I was a bit sloppy, so it's probably more my fault than anything else."
Silly Galinai, singing in the Shadow Plane is never helpful for being stealthy.

"Well, I started with a little bit of it, I guess. As a kid I could sometimes touch shadows, like they were some kind of odd gel. As I grew up I fiddled with it more, eventually discovered that I could go inside of them a bit. Uleryu's helped me figure out most of the other tricks."

A very intriguing color scheme.

Galinai gets to miss this little blush, it seems, in favor of looking quite taken by the scales. They're not precisely the most common trait to find on a woman, so perhaps it is that odd taste for the exotic that has struck him here.
Why, perhaps, is unimportant, in favor of the fact that he likes them in the first place.
So he's happy to offer them some attention, for his curiosity.
Little trace here, little stroke there.

He offers a little absent head-shake in part-response to her other two questions.
"I've decided lately to pay more attention to living, as opposed to dying."
Something about almost doing the latter against a tree and freaking someone out.

Referring back to their old conversation at the beach, he imagines a few people would be similar intrigued by the scales.
Mermaids have to be popular for a reason, right?

At the poke, he shakes his head a bit and looks back up at her face, with a silly little grin.

It's about the size of a large horse and moves very much like a cat despite it's very dog-like appearance. The creature head is skull-shaped, like it had some sort of white exo-skeleton covering it. Which also seems to lock it's teeth in a permanent hideous grin with all it's razor sharp teeth showing.

The rest of the body seems to be a mix of canine strength and feline grace. Every muscle moving underneath the brightly crimson colored exo-skeleton that seems to covering much of it's body as it moves.

The creature have no tail but it's claws that currently appears to be drawn into the exo-skeleton appears to shimmer with an unnatural sharpness.

It's eyes glow with a sinister red glow as it appears to be looking for the woman's scent. Then as it get's closer you can see yet another one the creatures. This one appears to be missing one of it's four legs but yet keeps moving somehow, like the loss of an appendage meant nothing to it.

It also has other signs of battle like minor injuries all over it's exo-skeleton that slowly but surely appears to be healing even now.

You get the impression know the hunt is over and are just moving slowly in a sadistic attempt to make the woman keep running until she would die of exhaustion.

Galinai gives a little finger wave to Eadin, accompanied by his wide grin from earlier.
"Magic. Possibly bribing a few flounders."
But he's most certainly doing mostly the former. Probably.

As light from the surface passes through towards the bottom, it is broken up, distorted, splaying a complicated dance of light and dark across the bottom.

And as one of these patches of dark swings across him, a shadow perhaps from a fish swimming above, the man is gone, vanished rather suddenly.

Somewhere above, about twenty feet or so and ploddingly doggy-paddling through the water, Galinai is cheerfully humming to himself.

It's a good thing they're not in the deepest portions of the lake, or it'd be rather entirely dark, cold, and probably uncomfortable for Galinai.
The rapid descent from Eadin's super-swimming had a pop or two in there, but that's just the way things go.

It only takes him a few moments to decide that he really likes that shadow idea. So he's definitely going with that one, just have to wait for a shadow to come by, so he can...

Take advantage of their close proximity and her staring at him, to give her a proper kiss. They've danced by two mostly-joking ones, so by now he figures he owes her an actual kiss.
A hand will maneuver to her cheek there, while the other remains at her back, to help his little move along...

War. Blood. Souls. War. Blood. Souls...

Oblivion looked around the place where it had awoken. Decrepit. Dusty. Worthless. Souls must be found. A worthy opponent must be found. Or this Nexus must be destroyed completely, if no worthy opponent exists.

It walked toward the city of Inside, visible on the horizon. It would take a while to get there by foot, but then the citizens would stand no chance without the aid of a champion.

"May your champions protect you, citizens of Reality. Because there is a new power in this place. Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust. This Nexus shall crumble."

The Bringer of Destruction was coming.
The Knight of Madness was coming.
And there would be a reckoning to come.

All of the Nexus could feel the sheer presence of the entity, this thing that so desired to fight their greatest champions.

For several long seconds, nothing happened at all. The wind washed over the ruin silently.

Then, a faint burst of malevolent energy erupted from the entrance. Clouds of dust whipped out of the egress like a billow of fog, and a figure could be faintly seen. As the dust began to move in a series of rings rather than a formless cloud, the figure of a nine-foot tall suit of armor black as the void rose from the depths of the forge, walking slowly but surely in the direction of the city of Inside.

The Bringer of Destruction had arisen in the Nexus, and it would not be stopped by trifling things such as Nature, Death, and even the force of the Nexus itself trying to slow the thing down. It pulsed with malevolent energy, at a degree never before seen. It turned its gaze upon Harnel, bathing him in the yellow glow of its eyes.

The incense seems perfectly normal on first examination, though magical methods show that the incense increases concentration and relaxation in those that burn it, making it very handy in rituals requiring a clear mind, intense focus and no tenseness. Such as scrying; in fact, that font of water would be a very good focus.

The positive energy has to fight the inherent negative energy in the unholy water, though not much negative energy goes into creating unholy water and most of the reason it's poisonous are the other ingredients.
