View Full Version : Ugh I didn't want to make this thread.

After spending ages running searches, I give up.

Can someone link me to a guide on making and formatting forum tables? I thought there was a thread about it but it seems to have been lost to the ages.

Here you go! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188369) Look at all the posts, there are a lot of different tables.

Moved it to a more appropriate forum. Also, I think you'll find this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8483419#post8483419) a more exhaustive resource for what can be done with tables, as well as a whole host of other formatting tips.

Um... does someone know how to divide spoiler into two columns?

I tried to put the text into the table, but it insists to divide it into cells every time it detects line break (basically, enter key). I just need two columns of text, no cells (two big cells for multiple paragraphs might be okay if that's the only solution), no divisions, no nothing, just two nice side-by-side columns of narrow text.

Any ideas?

I believe it's impossible to have spoilers in a table.

No, table in the spoilers.

Just a way to divide spoiler into 2-3 columns.

No, this still runs into mentioned issue - break the line with enter, and it creates completely useless cells :smallannoyed:

Is there a way to encapsulate whole paragraphs into one cell?

Edit - I see you tried to add <Br>, but it doesn't seem to work, either.

If you have a fixed width you could have a complete paragraph be forced to linebreak. If you however wish to control those linebreaks I believe linebreak works...at times.

Edit: Linebreak works, but you can't preview or it breaks.

No, I just have two narrow lines of irregular text.

You can't preview it? Very well, I'll test that, though it's a big problem because I edit the text often and not being able to preview it will be problematic. Any other solutions?

Preview or edit both break it, the safest solution is keeping a copy on word if it's specially lengthy so that if it requires editing you can copy it instead of having to fix every [Br].

I don't really get the gist of what you are trying to achieve, but it may be possible to use the colsp function to get a cell to split without altering the table structure.
